We stopped in for a drink, but we will definitely be returning for a meal! The food looked and smelled amazing! Our drinks were refreshing! The ambiance and music brought such a fun vibe as it sits along Glendale Avenue, it's a perfect day spot while the weather is good! The people didn't stop coming either, while we sat for two hours enjoying our delicious cocktails the restaurant stayed busy! A few weeks ago we celebrated one year of moving my family from Florida back to AZ and when we were in Florida we went to a place called Babbalos. It was delicious and being in a hub for Cuban food it was amazing. I was told about cubanitas from a coworker and decided this had to be the place to celebrate. Glad oh so glad we did. Came here on a Wednesday night and it was 2 hrs to close time but the place was packed. They have a full bar and outside seating but because the bar had an open concept inside was a little bit on the warm side. Server was super nice and they didn't skimp out on the portions. I ordered the pollo potaje plate which comes with white rice and red bean stew, it was full of flavor. My roommate ordered the bistec de Res which comes with Cuban rice and side salad, he devour the whole plate. Guava and beef empanadas were killer and the coco flan was decadent. I wasn't a fan of the tostones, it was on the dry side and needed a dipping sauce or something. There's so many side dishes I want to try, can't wait to go back and I recommend this place to anybody that's a foodie. read more

Beautiful little Cuban restaurant tucked in historic downtown Glendale with amazing service and ambience! We stopped by for a quick drink to cool down after a hot day outside exploring the historic downtown area! My partner was missing home and he's from Florida and he said that this place gave him what he was missing in regard to the space and the wonderful plantain appetizers we got! The sweet ones were great and the crispy salty ones were just as yummy! Drinks were great and you can't beat that happy hour time either. This reminded me of Cuban restaurants back in Miami- which are the absolute best! The entire decor and vibe is spot on. The food was good. The service was friendly and prompt. As far as I can tell they only serve the black beans mixed with rice. I wish they had an option to order them separately as that is my preference. We just visited Cubanitas new location on Glendale Ave. and it did not disappoint. I have had food in Floridas Little Havana and this place would fit right in (very authentic). The Cuban sandwich is the bomb and the highlight of the meal. The stuffed potato is a must try and the steak platter was solid. My only recommendation would be to change the fries to crinkle cut instead of shoestring. The atmosphere is lively and our server was great. Even the draft beers are huge and cold. We went in on a Sunday late afternoon. The place has a nice covered patio, large bar and seating inside. It's clean and bright. We sat at the bar and ordered Mojitos, empanadas and cubanos. The bartender was not rude, but not friendly or welcoming. His service overall was good but he Barely spoke a word. The food was not good. First the meat in the empanadas tasted like taco meat seasoned with a storw bought taco seasoning packet and the dough tasted like it was from canned biscuits. The pork in the cubano was really dry and tasted old. The pickles tasted like cheap, pickles from a jar. Little to no mustard but the bread was fresh. Best and only part of our meals we like were the fries. They were delicious, fresh and fried perfectly. The mojito tasted good but was weak. Not the best, not the worst I've had but I make a better mojito. All the workers lacked enthusiasm and when delivering our food, just put the food down and walked away. This place was a huge disappointment but I'm not sure if was off night for them. I'm not sure yet if I'll give it another try or not. read more

Whoa! I found the taste of Miami right here in Phoenix. We had the coquette with potato and beef that was light and fluffy and the beef lightly seasoned. The yucca was incredibly crisp and the insides were fluffy. the plantains were not overly sweet but very pleasant. The cubano sandwich was plentiful with moist ham and the bread was delicious. The staff was efficient and very friendly. They helped with questions of all things Cuban. This is a very small establishment and few tables. Also, there is no bathroom facilities. Parking is plentiful. Next time we will take it to go and enjoy a nearby park. This place is GREAT! Oh, and try the flan. Totally smooth with no air bubbles. read more

There's just less than a handful of traditional, really good, delectable, and authentic Cuban Restaurants in the Valley, plus a few wannabe or extreme fusion composites and I must say hands down, Cubanitas Kitchen is our top of the wrung, top of the hill, A Numero uno Cuban eatery. Take it from a Cuban American who is constantly on the prowl for great, traditional and homemade Cubano throughout the state if Arizona! From Miami, FL, to New York, NY, to Chicago, IL to Portland, OR and Phoenix, I've chased Cuban Cuisine everywhere! In the words of Guy Fieri "this is the real deal"! My wife and I recently visited again and went whole hog (pardon the pun) with such traditional Cuban Cuisine as Puerco Asado, Bistec de Cerdo with Congri, ensalada along with Yuca con Mojo, Platanos Maduros Fritos, a side of Yuca Frita, Empanadas de Guayaba and de Picadillo (Guava and Minced Meat pastries), along with Cuban Sandwiches to go! We also splurged on a can of Materva, one of Jupiña and I had a traditional yummy Batido de Mamay! I had the privilege of being there when an off-menu special was added - a long standing, underrated, little-known and little-appreciated childhood fave dish my grandmother used to make called Ajiaco! This relaxed, Caribbean comfort food incorporates jerked beef (salted meat), pork, bacon, corn, yam, plantains, cassava, sweet potato, pumpkin, onion, garlic, lemons, Cuban creole sauce and lard, into one of the most fascinating stews on earth! despite stuffing ourselves and taking home a bunch of leftovers, we never did get to try their vast assortment of culinary delicacies on the menu such as: Ropa Vieja; Puerco Asado; Pollo a la Plancha; Pan con Bistec; Pan con Croqueta; Pan con Lechon; Tostones; Papa Rellena; Croquetas de Jamon; Yuca Frita; Chicharritas; Tostones Rellenos; Cortaditos; Café Cubano; Flan Regular, Guayaba o Coco; Batidos de Mango, Guayaba, or Malteada. With only one exception to my 5-start rating is their Cubano - yes, there is no Cuban Bread available in the area, and that's forgivable. But their traditional take on the sammich lacks in depth of mojo and length of marinade time, has a lackluster swiss cheese and the omission of mustard - is sacrilege! Yet co-owners Lennis Montero, Angel Renteria and Keeon Pullen should be commended going from food truck to brick and mortar to a new location in such a short period of time! And Lennis' fantastic cooking, Chef and ability to translate from her heart and soul the true, traditional, delish and homey Cuban fare to the Valley. We planned on visiting Cubanitas Kitchen during our trip to Glendale in early March. We started with croquettes and mariquitas. They were good. We ordered our meals and it seemed it took forever! The waitress informed us that they gave another table our food. Not sure how the other table ordered the exact same food. At that point I was ready to leave and cut our loses as we had probably waited 40 minutes and they had to put in our order again in the kitchen. However, we made a bad decision and stayed for the food. We got a Cuban sandwich and Pollo a La Plancha. We only ate 1/2 of the Cuban sandwich as it was so so. Potbelly Sandwich Works makes a better Cuban. Much to our surprise, they used a chicken thigh for the Pollo a La Plancha. We lived in Miami for several years and ate Cuban food on a regular basis. Never were we ever served chicken thigh for Pollo a La Plancha. This should be a grilled chicken breast steak, not a chicken thigh. Needless to say, we didn't eat it, paid our bill and left. Not a good experience at all and subpar food. Save your time and money. Better to hit the authentic Cuban restaurants when in South Florida. read more

Service was special because the owner was the one who helped us. He told us about the origins of Cubanitas Kitchen. My experience was extra special because I realize the love and sweat and hard hard work that went into this place. Ambiance was chill. We got a table just in time. There were 8 of us, so we had to wait for a table to open up. Space and seating are limited, but it's worth the wait!!! If you can, try to eat there. First time trying this place. My husband and I went in during lunch. Service was good. Cute set up. We both ordered sandwiches, chicken sandwich was ok, not very much chicken, thinly sliced thigh with lettuce and 2 tomato slices. My Cuban sandwich was also very thinly sliced pork and ham. Fries were bland. Not hardy sandwiches at all. Mojitos were ok. We like a little punch to our drinks especially for the price. For lunch is was about $55 not including tip and tax. Having lived in South Florida for many years I talked to the owner who was from Cuba and lived in South Florida and told him that we were pleased with the food and service with suggestions for adding a few of my favorites to the menu such as Vaca Frita, Steak Melanesia and Steak Artisano. Also loved the ham coquettes that were on the menu. We enjoyed our dinner and will definitely be back again. What I like about this place is their relatively small menu which means they can just focus on making good food rather than making a large variety of mediocre food. I tried out their steak sandwich and mango milkshake. The mango milkshake was quite delicious. Although the steak sandwich was pretty big, there was way more bread than actual ingredients. I haven't been to Cubanitas Kitchen since April. This time around I brought two of my friends with me. I was a little confused when I walked into the new restaurant. I was greeted by the owner Angel and he told me they had moved a little over a month ago. The "new " restaurant is bigger, more modern , and has beautiful bar as you walk through the seating area. We were taken care by our waiter Francis. What a great guy. Besides taking care of our food needs, he gave of a history lesson about Cuba. We all had the Sandwich Cubano with french fries. A slab of roast pork, ham and swiss cheese with pickles and mustard. Empenada de Picadillo/Ground Beef Empenada. An order of Maduro Frito/Sweet Plantain. The meal was great. Omg this was such a cute small restaurant! The color and painting on the wall was so welcoming. And the food was pretty authentic! I'm from Tampa, FL and the cuban cigars and food are very popular there and this restaurant really hit the spot and reminds me of that-Tampa-feeling.
