We celebrated my birthday at Cucina Moderna last Saturday, April 16.. We were seated outdoors at the side of the restaurant covered by a roof, yet opened enough to enjoy the breezes and sunlight.. We were a group of 18, and everything was absolutely wonderful.. Tables were all set up when we arrived. Our server Daniel was just outstanding .. I felt compelled to write a review as my first visit to Cucina Moderna was excellent. To start, the service was amazingly, from our attentive and very nice server, Nina, to all the support staff, and two separate managers asking how our meal was. Second, the food was excellent - great selection, and wonderful early bird menu and happy hour drink prices. We all ordered different entrees and desserts and everything was delicious. We went for dinner last night. I had the veal parmigiana. It was burnt and dry. My pasta was cold. My wife had fettuccine bolognese. It had no taste. My daughter had linguine with white clam sauce. Again, no flavor. We had to ask for our bread that had been promised twice. We were told by our server it was in the oven. When someone else brought it, it was cold. Our server took our order and never returned until it was time to pay the check. We had friends tell us that your restaurant was fabulous. It was not that last night. POOR POOR service. We usually sit at the bar, but that being full we were seated at a booth. After 15 min being ignored a young busser came over and gave us water. Another 5-10 min we waited and no service! We went to the hosted and asked if someone was going to take our drink and food order??Another five minutes later a busser and offer bread, which we did not want. FINALLY the manager came by our table and assigned it to a server. At this point with no drink or food orders taken we voiced that we were leaving. The manager asked what pizza we wanted "to go" and after another 5 min . he shoved a pizza at us (for free) and sent us on our way! This restaurant is more interested in giving away free food than providing good service. A free small pizza is worthy more to them than a bottle of wine, an appetizer and two entrees! Outdoor dining is divine at Cucina Moderna however that's about the only positive thing i can say. The food was just so-so, served lukewarm to cold. They did not acknowledge the specific request made by our friend, so he had to wait while they cooked him a new serving while we all were eating. It seemed as though things were out of control. The food here is consistently terrible. It's a shame considering the ambience is rather nice. I've been here three times and hated the food every time. Several of their dishes are served drowning in sauce. Their red sauce tend to be watery and flavorless in my experience. The eggplant parmesan is utterly flavorless and also watery. The meatballs also come in the same terrible sauce and are also flavorless. The pizza I tried one time was passable and seemed to be the only thing on the menu the staff told me they liked. If you want actual quality Italian food I highly recommend Agliolio's. It's far superior. Cucina Moderna's food is just slop. I've noticed several reviews taking the service at Cucina Moderna to task. I had no complaints about the waitstaff in the three times I tried it. What I do object to though, is when a runner comes over with the food and then "auctions" it off. "Chicken parmesan?" and then you have to raise your hand or indicate who ordered what. Don't most POS systems have seat assignments on them? Why does every dish have to be loudly announced to see who ordered it before it's put down? That's just inelegant and classless. I'd expect that at a diner, but not at places like Cucina Moderna. It also seems to be fairly common practice at more than a few restaurants in South Florida. read more

Our party was made up of 5 persons. Food was good except for the temperature of two our main dishes which was room temperature and it was lasagna. Our server was Madison K and she was completely detached from what proper service is. She took over 15 minutes before she even approached our table after we sat down. The appetizers arrived 10 minutes later and I had to ask her for utensils and napkins. After the food arrived, we didn't see her again until it was time to pay and I had to asked her for the bill as she passed by. No manager ever came to our table to see if all was alright I made my living as a waiter in the past, so I tip when I great service. Based in our experience, I reduced it to 10% and one my daughters said they witnessed Madison making faces at us with the manager next to her. Tonight was an awful experience. we had Grace as a server. she was inattentive and the service was beyond poor. we asked for clean plates for our appetizers. when they didn't come back my husband took them off the table next to us My husband ordered angelhair pasta. It came with the wrong pasta. Grace was no where to be found. The busboy helped. .Grace never came by and our guest wanted another glass of wine. he dd get it. Decided to try them again after a year or so. First time back was good, sat at the bar and enjoyed the happy hour. Service was great! Came back two more times and the service at the bar started great but when it came time to tab out we had to practically a bar tender to get their attention. Tonight I tried to get their attention to no avail, seriously considered just leaving and having them eat the bill but, threw some cash down (wound up being a 30% tip undeservingly so) and left. Did a big takeout for my family for Christmas eve , and the food was really delicious! My mom ( 88 years young and Italian) , said it was the best Linguini and clam sauce she's ever had!
