Where do I start. I came to Yelp to find a vintage NYC steakhouse. Five stars, outstanding reviews, and that old school cherry wood paneling lead me here. We were not disappointed. Our reservations were for 4:30 pm, we arrived early. I was prepared to sit at the bar, until our reservations. However, the gracious hostess offered an opportunity to be seated, that I couldn't refuse. We ordered drinks, the OG Espresso Martini and Rocco's Martini. The strong OG Espresso Martini with vodka, Kahlua, and fresh frothy espresso was a huge hit! After a half dozen plump and tasty oysters on half shells with Tabasco sauce for appetizers, we were ready for the main course. A thick, juicy, dry-age Porterhouse steaming, hot steak arrived. It was one huge and juicy steak, big enough for two people. One half was served rare and the other half arrived medium rare, with thick steak cut French Fries. The steak was big enough of two people and we still had a significant portion to take home. The dark cherrywood panels in the dining room, gave this vintage-old-school-New-Yawk-feel. As a hungry vegetarian who planned a large outing with steak eaters: 1. Rocco's is easy to find as it is across the street from Whole Foods 2. The place is spacious 3. Easy to make a RSVP via open table 4. Coat check - please dont forget to tip the coat lady 5. The chef was able to accomodate something special for a vegetarian - a delicious pasta dish with lots of veggies 6. Friend's dishes: steak varied from 8 oz to 24 oz (that jump); good lentil soup; delicious looking sides 7. Festive place - when someone's birthday - waiters sang a little opera of sorts 8. Wow! What an amazing establishment. The service is top-tier and the food was amazing. Our waiter Almir was so pleasant and helpful. The entire waitstaff paid great attention to detail. Everyone was very personable. The crab cake was really good. It came with mixed greens which had a nice dressing on them. Two people in my party got salads for their appetizers and the salads were huge. You can definitely share a salad so you will still have room for your entree. For the entree I got the Chilean sea bass. Almir suggested trying it with a sauce and shrimp. Truthfully, the red sauce was such a game changer and an amazing recommendation. The Chilean sea bass was moist and flaked perfectly. The sauce went really well with the sea bass. The shrimp were a pleasant addition. For sides we got: sautéed spinach, German potatoes, and sautéed mushrooms. The sides were good as well. We were celebrating a birthday and anniversary. The waitstaff surprised us with singing happy birthday and brought out a dessert platter. The dessert platter had: tartuffo, carrot cake, cheesecake, chocolate cake, melon, grapes, and whipped cream. Came here for a work dinner and thought it was overall a good place. Service was professional and they took good care of us. Since this was a work dinner, we had a fixed menu except for our entrees. We started with a seafood tower, which was okay. The standout to me was the lump crab mean...I really liked that. There was nothing wrong with any of the shrimp, lobster, etc but it didn't jump out at me as above average. I had a bone-in ribeye for my main. On par with good ribeyes I have had. Cooked well and great flavor. It was so big I ate it for three meals! Sides were decent...lobster mac and cheese was okay but I liked the spinach and mashed potatoes in particular. Desserts were okay. Cheesecake was pretty tasty as was tiramisu. I wasn't paying so I have to say I enjoyed it but checking out the menu, it's on par for a steakhouse in Manhattan, which is to say, it's not cheap. My cocktail (old fashioned) was okay, but I like when a place uses one big ice cube because when it's made with a lot of little cubes, it gets watered down fast so from a drinks perspective, it was just so-so. The space is nice and one thing I did like was that it wasn't as crazy loud as some steakhouses are, so you could actually hear people across the table. Very enjoyable experience last night. Took a few co-workers here for a real estate closing dinner, and it lived up to my hopes. Overall a great steakhouse that will be added to my rotation. I've been to many different places in the city and some places several times, such as Wolfgang's, Luger, and Striphouse. I wanted to try something new so did some perusing on yelp as well as google and this one came highly rated. I can certainly see why. Vodka martini was very solid, nothing wrong and also nothing amazing. For food we started off with a crabcake, baked clams, bacon, and tomato/onion app. The best was the crab cake by far, but the others were still solid. I personally can go the rest of my life without the tomato/onion app at any steakhouse but I was over-ruled. The porterhouse and the sides were exceptional. I'd say if these were only solid/average, it would be probably be a 3.5/4 star review. But the main course stood out as delicious. The German potatoes were the best I've had anywhere, and the vegetables incredibly well-seasoned without being too salty. Most side dishes had fresh slices of sautéed garlic which I loved. The porterhouse was on par with Wolfgang's and Luger. Dry-aged, sizzling in a piping hot plate of butter/meat juice. Couldn't be happier when it was all finished. We had a very nice time at Rocco's Steakhouse early on a Saturday night in late May. We walked down from the theater stopping in both Keene's and Wolfgangs, not feeling the vibe. A quick search with positive reviews led us down a few more blocks to Rocco's. We were greeted like regulars or family, very warm & inviting. The room is dim, no music, I didn't notice flowers and the tables 100% would benefit both functionally & ambiance wise, from some type of lighting/candle/USB charged lantern. I could not read my menu and my flashlight app was annoyingly bright. I get that the table quickly filled up with plates, but the extra decoration of light would be nice. Service was beyond exceptional. You will not feel like a stranger or like you might not belong. No one here will bark at you like some old fashioned steak houses. We learned that most of the staff is from the Balkan region in Europe (Montenegro, Croatia) and this explains the warm hospitality that the region and people are known for. The sirloin came out sizzling, the sides of mushrooms & spinach were top of the line and plentiful. I had a burger and took 1/2 home. The carrot cake was delicious, plate adorned with a nice slice of cantaloupe and grapes which made me laugh.. so not a NYC thing to do but such a nice gesture. Lee took 1/2 of the steak home, next time we may just share something and go heavy on the sides. I've eaten creamed spinach since I'm a kid and this was the best we've had. The mushrooms too. Perfection. Our Hendricks Martini & Manhattan straight up were perfectly made and reasonable. I noticed that there were large tables of families, round tables I must add, which is something that is a must with a larger group so that no-one is stuck at the ends. Went to Rocco's Steakhouse for lunch....beautiful decor, the staff was great! When I was seated I started looking at the menu and thought....let me splurge a little, I saw they had King Crab as an Appetizer and then get the Bone in Filet Minion when the waiter came by he looked me up and down(I was in a polo work shirt, and khakis) and said sir I would like to inform you the king crab is 165 dollars a lbs. I was floored....the poor people look was all over my face lol. I was like sir, I've had a change of heart, can you get me the 19.99 crab cake special as an appetizer . Anyhow long story short....steak was eh, crab cakes were full of filling and no crab so I was underwhelmed about the whole meal. If you do go there please pick up pieces of my rich man ego because it shattered and was left on the floor there lol. All and all it wasn't the worst, but definitely wasn't the best. read more

This is the NEW BEST STEAKHOUSE IN NYC! Over the last year or two, I've eaten at Wolfgangs, Sparks, STK, Quality Meats, etc., and this was by far the best experinece we've had in quite some time. Six of us came for my wife's birthday, which we advised them about when making the reservation. Here is where they excelled. Service was about as good as I have had anywhere ever. Well timed, unobtrusive, and a waiter who remembered our order for six without writing it down. Caesar salads were excellent and plenty for two. Ample portions of German Potatoes, Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions, and Creamed Spinach also plenty for the six of us. Porterhouse, two filets, and salmon all perfectly prepared and seasoned. Just the right temp. Steaks were the best I've had in a long time. And a selection of deserts delivered to the table for my wife's birthday. It's... OK. Certainly you can get a good steak here, though I found the charring on the meat a bit uneven. And service is quite professional. But other things just shouldn't have come out of the kitchen -- like mealy tomatoes in the onion/tomato steakhouse classic appetizer (those same mealy tomatoes spoiled the salad part of the chicken Milanese and kinda made the dish meh as a result). Also, onlon rings that were greasy and semi-burnt. And lamb chops that were slightly overcooked. Things like that scream dishes aren't being eyeballed before they come out of the kitchen (and if you can't get good tomatoes, well, just don't serve the dish). It's a boisterous restaurant -- some might like that, I thought it was just a bit much. Prices are high, but kinda what you expect for a NYC steakhouse serving prime beef. I suspect you can do better overall if you're looking for a solid steakhouse meal, but you can also do worse. read more

My husband and I try to visit a new steakhouse in Manhattan at least 2x a year. I found Rocco Steakhouse on a google search. Brought my husband there last night for his birthday dinner and this place did not disappoint. Steak was perfectly cooked medium rare, sides were amazing, truffle ravioli I can eat all day. This is a classically styled NYC steakhouse. Service was very attentive, with waitstaff constantly buzzing around. But also not obtrusive. The food was outstanding. My partner and I started with a wedge salad and French onion soup. The soup was a bit salty for my taste but probably just me. The salad was fresh. We each had filet mignon. The standard portion is 14 (!!) oz. We opted for off menu 8 oz portions, just ask. It was cooked perfectly, crusty outside and tender inside. Served with delicious, unexpected peppercorn sauce. So when in NYC, you can not leave without trying a steakhouse. Thank you Yelp for giving us a few options. We thought Rocco's had some great reviews and headed out in the rain to experience it for ourselves. We sat down at the bar and were immediately greeted by Giacuomo (apologies on the spelling). Such a warm greeting with that amazing Italian accent. We ordered sparkling water and a gin and tonic along with shrimp cocktail. These shrimp were huge!!!! The cocktail sauce had just enough spice. A couple more cocktails and a glass of wine and it was time to order dinner. Ribeye, baked potato, blue cheese wedge salad. All of this is shareable! Of course if you are a carnivore like my husband, you would want to have the steak all to your self! We could not leave without sharing their cheesecake for dessert! The best cheesecake I have ever had. Great service and friendly atmosphere! True Italian hospitality. I have known a few Rocco's in Albuquerque, NM who attended Catholic school with me. Walking in it's like walking in a beautiful dark time capsule. Big dark oversized wood bar on your right and hostess to the left a little further up. The dining room is big and open, but no windows in here. The windows at the bar were decorated with walls of wine bottles, some I didn't even know they made so big. Yellenia was great. The first drink, an old fashioned, wasn't so great. No garnish and made with a Maraschino cherry! Til this day I cannot find a better place that makes one like Yardhouse ! Shocking, anyway I drank it-fast. We were seated table of 11 I believe and Al was great. The whole staff was pretty great from what I remember after, 2nd dirty Martini ( which I switched to after that old fashion), the only issue was I had to send maybe each dirty martini back because I mean it wasn't dirty. The food was good. I had the bone-in filet mignon very good sear tasted great. My favorite was the lobster mac and cheese, I also had the sautéed broccoli which was yummy as well. I did enjoy that they pack your leftovers for you. I don't usually do groups and that could have effected my overall outlook on this place. I only dine for 2 normally, so 11 was a big difference. Nothing was a wow factor here and there are too many NYC steakhouses for me to probably ever visit this one again. read more

Food was good, not very good - just good. And the service was sub par, at best. I was with a rather large business party of 10 last Thursday night and the wait staff seemed barely attentive at all. I had to literally stand up and wave my warms twice for a drink order for the table. The Caesar Salads that four of us ordered just for ourselves were divided up and served family style to all along with all of the other appetizers. I am normally not that bothered by stuff like this, but having never been here before and also aware of its stellar reputation, I have to say that I was very, very disappointed. read more

This place was a party in my mouth!! The amount of flavors in each plate is astonishing, especially when all beautifully prepared and garnished. The service has been the BEST service I have experienced to date. Every waiter was extremely friendly and accommodating. They even pulled the lobster out of its shell for me! Every side was served family style and each waiter will go round Robbin until you get everything you wanted. I would honestly give this place a million stars if that was a thing. It's definitely on the more expensive side but well worth the price given you're treated better than royalty. The Shiraz we ordered paired wonderfully with the steak. I'm not sure if they always do this, but the dessert cake platter was on the house! They all tasted so good but I'd have to say the carrot cake was my favorite. Hell, even if they don't give it for free next time, I'd still order it. That's how delicious the cakes were!! This was the first time I tried Steak Tartare and I have to say I'm spoiled. We dined here because of the stellar reviews I've read. Service was 3/5- don't expect any warmth service that you'd usually get from a steakhouse place. Servers were very straightforward and felt a European dine-in service. We shared our entrees so they served each of them on our plates. It was a kind gesture but awkward and unnecessary. Food was 3.5/5- the Rib eye steak we ordered was medium well but the edges of the steak were burnt then the middle was medium rare. It was definitely a disappointment. We didn't have reservation because it was a spontaneous decision and going to the city a reservation is always needed. However we decided to go at the times in between lunch and dinner. I called before coming in to make sure they had tables and they did. After dinner the servers gave us dessert for free because it was my brothers birthday! This was so sweet and we didn't even tell them before coming in. The server was speaking to us and heard that it was my brother's birthday and brought us cake and fruits. Great steakhouse. Great service. Great food. Similar to Lugers, Wolfgang's and Benjamin's. It's that dry aged, beefy, buttery taste. If you've been to one, you've been to them all but Rocco makes a great choice to add to the steakhouse rotation. One thing you have to get is the broccoli rabe with cherry peppers. It's a side I haven't seen anywhere else and it's damn good. read more

Quick weekend stay in the city, Rocco's, a block away from our hotel, seemed like the right choice. Solid wine list with many options and yes, NYC steakhouse prices. There are certainly several solid choices without reaching triple digits and we jumped on the Luigi Bosco. Chilled, which I'm a fan, but not so much for my wife. Still, very smooth and light. Iceberg Wedge and tomato salad with bacon and Bleu cheese is our go to at prime steakhouses and Rocco's didn't disappoint. The tomato was a bit simple, but the Bleu cheese was extremely flavorful. Both ordered filets, one medium rare (Megan's) one medium (mine). Cute little markers, but my steak was over cooked. My wife's was perfectly cooked. Slightly disappointed, but it wasn't dried out plus the peppercorn gravy saved it. Which the gravy was a surprise, it was definitely tasty and meshed well wonderfully with the potatoes. Finished the meal with NY Cheesecake and a latte. Well, I don't eat cheesecake, but my wife said it was very tasty. I ate the fruit on the platter and can't go wrong with strawberries and melons. The mocha latte, was strong, just what I needed! Despite, a slightly overcooked steak, I have to give Rocco's a five. The service was impeccable and all the food was very tasty. Truly wow!! This steakhouse was impeccable from quality of the food to the service itself. Surely the menu is quite extensive with various cuts of steak and seafood options and love the different options for sides. I was very impressed with the service, it was almost like a dance when a few servers come all at once to present the food and serve the food onto our dishes. If they catch your plate empty, they may come back to serve you another piece of meat from the shared table platter. The steak was cooked wonderfully *chefs kiss*, I don't quite think you can go wrong on that. Mac n cheese was great as a side.
