Fazzoletti alla Genovese Short Rib & Onion Ragú, Pecorino

Arrived around 7pm, was busy but had a reservation. Seated by a funny, knowledgable waiter- probably some guy who was in nyc as an actor to be kinda thing. Cool traditional Italian restaurant vibe. Diversity of patrons, dimly lit, they will sing happy bday to you if requested! The food is legit! Pasta done perfectly, our dishes were flavourful, perfect size for sharing, tasty, amazing. Filet was medium rare and was done properly, juicy and with option of sauces If you are looking for legit Italian food in an area near a touristy spot. This is it.

Ironic the last review is a 1 star & it's followed by my 5 stars. Sorry to that Yelper but we did not have that experience at all. I will say, I do agree there was not an apparent manager on the floor, which is interesting. Service was excellent! Not in a Michelin rated type of way but chill/attentive/felt like family & regulars type of way. Everyone from the host to ALL the servers were kind, even the new guy on his first night. lol. They burnt the olive oil cake lol & brought us extra champagne for the wait. We were having such a good time talking, basically closed out the restaurant & didn't care. They also gave us complimentary prosciutto which was in the middle of the floor ready to be carved. Decor was dark, moody & pretty nice. Perfect for a date night or girls night! I wouldn't say loud but also not quiet. The food...bangin'! I was genuinely surprised at how delicious everything was! Trust me, get the octopus & short rib pasta. However every dish was delicious, perfectly seasoned, & the pasta itself was giving homemade. The cocktails were great (& pricey as to be expected). The food is on par with pricing of similar restaurants. I will absolutely be back & suggest you visit too!

WOW what a fabulous and perfect meal. We got a day-of reservation here very last minute and I'm so glad we went. Everything was delicious and the service was great. The hostesses were very kind and cared about us getting seated on time. The inside was cozy and we were tucked in a little alcove. I had an amazing dirty martini to drink, and it was worth the high price. To start, we got the focaccia with taleggio butter, octopus carpaccio, and artichokes. I'm not a huge fan of artichokes normally but these were delicious. Some of the focaccia pieces were a little hard on the ends but the middle parts were soft and yummy. Octopus was so unique and fresh. To eat, my boyfriend got the garlic stuffed chicken and I got the squid ink crab pasta. This pasta was genuinely one of the best dishes I've had in the city. So much crab and the sauce was perfect. You have to get this! For dessert we had the delicious apple olive oil cake. We expected this meal to be really expensive and it totaled around $200, which actually seems reasonable for how much food we got. Da Toscano is a must for upscale Italian food!

I was lucky enough to snag a spot at the bar for an early dinner. The ambiance was great the drinks were great and the food was amazing! The bartender took great care of us so if ur in the area don't pass up on this great spot.

YUMMM! Made a reservation here after getting a rec and finding it as a good spot near the Comedy Cellar. Not only was the service spectacular, so was the food! Our server Corin was the best! We started with the Braised Artichokes appetizer which is unlike I've ever had them before, so delicious. My boyfriend and I both got the Orecchiette for dinner and it was an excellent choice. For dessert, we got Chocolate Blackout Cake (+ I got an espresso martini, delish). Loved our time here and would definitely be a regular if I lived in the city. :)

Have been wanting to try this spot for a while and while we were expecting good food and service, we were soo surprised with how good the food and service were. Staff is super helpful. The food was so so good. We got two types of tortellini, ragú and bread and every bite was delish - literally cleaned our plates. Very nice inside too!

Such a cute, quaint space! Be sure to make a reservation- the line was out the door on a Wednesday night. I can't stop thinking about the prosciutto + peach dish. The flavors were amazing! The black tagliatelle has corn- just a heads up. It was definitely a texture shock haha.

There are not enough stars for this review. Da Toscano is literally the most perfect restaurant ever. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Let's get started with the ambience. The place is dimly lit so it's perfect for date night. There's eccentric art all over the brick walls and there are ample tables for groups and couples. The staff was absolutely incredible. Water was replenished every few minutes. Our server was the sweetest person in the world. She even got us champagne and a candle on my dessert for my birthday. Everyone was just so attentive and recommended the best dishes. Now onto the food. The octopus carpaccio was out of this world. There is a PB&J duck dish, that combined sweet and savory, and it was incredible. The pastas were well portioned and so delicious. My boyfriend got the lamb neck pasta, and when I say it is probably one of the most best dishes I've ever tasted in my life, I'm not exaggerating. You could tell this place really puts love into every one of their dishes. I am so glad that we came here, especially for my birthday. Da Toscano really made a special for me. Reservations literally fill up two weeks in advance, so please make sure you reserve before hand. Sometimes tables open up the day of so keep a lookout for that. I really can't wait to come back here again.

Absolutely delicious and great service. I would pass on the artichoke next time- was too sour for me. Pasta was delicious, especially the Pappardelle. Romantic atmosphere and dim lighting.

After the night's musical performance we were craving Italian and stumbled upon Da Toscano, and was greeted by a charming young lady by the name Genesis. Due to the restaurant's popularity we were seated at the bar and welcomed by Will. He offered some recommendations, explaining various items on the menu, accepting our order, and prepared our beverages to perfection. In what seemed like only a short time Zeke arrived with our Chef Salad and nicely warmed Focaccia with butter. The salad was fresh, crisp, delicious. After completing the salad course, Zeke returned to change our place setting and submitted our main courses for presentation. When he returned he had my Asiago Angel Hair Pasta and my lady's Pappardelle which both paired well with the Torres 2020 Tempranillo. Everything was delicious! Prepared and presented to perfection and piping hot. Truly a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant was dimly lit and romantic. Special thanks to Genesis, Will, and Zeke for a great time.

I was lucky enough to grab a reservation at Da Toscano and this is definitely some of the best pasta I've had. I ordered the agnoletti and loved it. The pasta was perfectly cooked and flavorful. I also ordered the pork chop since I figured I'd still be hungry; This didn't disappoint either. The setting here is very intimate and the staff was super friendly and offered plenty of suggestions. Da Toscano is a must if you're able to grab a reservation

    Octopus carpaccio, roasted oysters

First off, the ambiance!!! Literally chefs kiss-- it's super dark, but it's the perfect ambiance for a date night. Service was ok-- a little bit over enthusiastic in trying to take our plates away when we weren't there for that long, but other than that service was good. - Octopus carpaccio: 100/10 (fresh octopus carpaccio with crispy sourdough bread. A fantastic appetizer to start off the meal!) - Roasted oysters: 8/10 (a little too salty for my liking. I think I prefer fresh oysters!) - Papparadelle with duck ragu: 10000000/10 (holy cow this is the best papparadelle I've had in New York!!! The tomato sauce with duck is sooooo flavorful and the pasta was cooked to perfection!! Best dish of the meal!) - Agnolotti: 10/10 (cheese agnolotti in a savory and slightly sweet sauce. Really good, but not my fav agnolotti that I've had in New York) - Wine: 10/10 Overall, I'd be back just for the papparadelle-- super amazing!!!!

Wow what a great meal. It's a pretty unassuming place from the outside and I walked in really knowing minimal about it and was truly impressed by every dish we got. Started with the octopus carpaccio: such a beautiful dish. It was a little hard to eat with the bread but the sesame bread itself was delicious to eat alone. Whipped ricotta toast with mushrooms: I love a good whipped ricotta toast and this one was huge. It had a sweeter glaze than I was expecting and I think maybe that could have been dialed down a bit. Tagliatelle with crab: shocking amount of crab, delicious pasta, zesty. Duck: the meat itself was great but the standouts were the sauces. Enjoyed the potato it came with too. Tiramisu sundae: not a standard tiramisu and it really works. Very large portion and the flavoring is just right. The service was delightful. The waitress was such a pleasant person and the other help staff were super attentive. It was a skosh expensive, especially the drinks, but it was definitely worth the visit.

Baba Al Rum was also tasty, as was the Orecchiette. Rigatoni was salty, but well-flavored. I visited a popular Italian restaurant from the Union Square Hospitality group with a group of five others. The restaurant is quite large, and although it was somewhat noisy, the tables were spaced apart enough that it was easy to hear everyone. We had an early dinner at 5:45 PM, which took quite a while, but I didn't mind. To drink, I went with the Bitter Giuseppe for $19, with Cynar 45.3, Punt e Mes, lemon, and sea salt. I'm a fan of most Negronis, and this was a particularly bitter version. The bit of lemon and sea salt added a unique but enjoyable flavor at the end, though in retrospect, the salt probably wasn't super necessary. Two of us split, and eventually, a few of us ordered their signature appetizer, the $18 Cast Iron Focaccia, with tomato conserva, a mixture of crushed tomatoes, olive oil, and Calabrian chili. The bread was fresh and warm, albeit a tad oily and salty, but it paired wonderfully with the conserva. As someone who doesn't like it when bread is extra, this was delicious and worth it. Another person ordered the $18 Insalata Verde. It was very large, but fairly basic, with a vinaigrette that had a citrusy and mustardy flavor. There was also the Caramelized Onion Torta for $27, which was very large, as expected for the price point. It had a creamy and tangy flavor from the Pecorino Toscano with some sweetness from the onion. It was delicious, but very heavy, and I would recommend that around three or four people split it alongside the focaccia. Finally, there was also the $15 Pizza Bianca, which was easily the smallest of all the plates, but they still enjoyed it. My main dish was the Orecchiette for $26, with ramps, pistachio, and pecorino. Like most of their dishes, the portion size was quite large, with plenty of pasta, which was perfectly cooked. The ramps added a touch of sweetness, although I would have liked a few more nuts. Additionally, there was almost too much pecorino, which made the dish slightly salty, but it was still enjoyable. As a side, I got the $19 Grilled Asparagus with dates, vermouth, and blue cheese, which came with many pieces of lightly charred asparagus. While there was plenty of funky blue cheese, I would have preferred more dates. Two of the others got the Rigatoni Alla Gricia for $30. The portion was large, and I tried a bit while they tried mine. The noodles were again cooked perfectly, and while there was a lot of guanciale, this was easily the saltiest of all the dishes. For dessert, I chose their Baba AU Rum for $18, which was uniquely mixed with chocolate and orange. The presentation was a bit off, as it looked like a certain emoji, but the flavor made up for it. The subtle hint of rum paired with the bitter-sweet chocolate and orange. The dark chocolate-covered orange slice on top was a nice touch as well. Someone else got a tart, and one other person got the Gelati, which resulted in one of the only faults during service. She heard it was two scoops, and ordered espresso stracciatella and hazelnut, but was given two separate orders for $12 each. The gelato was good, but unlike most things, definitely not worth it for the price. I liked the appetizers much more, but I found the food good overall. Tasty dessert, and the portions make up at least a bit for the relatively higher prices.

We started with the housemade focaccia and Wagyu carpaccio--both were outstanding, with the perfect balance of crispy, flavorful, and fresh elements. My partner and I shared the pasta, hangar steak, and potatoes, which turned out to be the ideal amount for two. We finished with the famous olive oil cake, which we loved for its subtly sweet, moist and tender bite. Served with lightly whipped cream and raisins, the combination was surprisingly delicious. We were also touched by the complimentary anniversary scoop of ice cream. The interior seating is a bit snug, but the decor is beautiful--elegant yet homey. The service was good as well. Overall, we highly recommend L'Artusi for a special night out!

L'Artusi has been on my radar for a while, ever since I heard it was a hot spot and saw reviews of…read moreit being one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Being Italian American, I'm hypercritical of spots like these - but nevertheless the positive reviews were overwhelming so I wanted to check it out for myself. One of my friends and I were looking to catch up, so I booked a table and off we went. While it can be tricky to get a reservation during prime dinner time, it's relatively easy to get a lunch reservation - or an early/late dinner. I managed to get a reservation for dinner at 9:15pm which was the earliest I could find. The restaurant is pretty unassuming on the outside - it looks like a converted brownstone and once inside we were greeted by a large space with a sceney vibe. The space is split between two levels with a large bar up front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The decor was modern - with lots of greys and neutral tones which was a little unexpected. The main star of the menu is pasta, but they also have a few non-pasta mains as well as some crudo selections, apps, and sides. We decided to get a few apps, two pastas, and one side. To start, we went with the octopus, roasted mushrooms, burrata crostone, and focaccia. These were all really good, but my favorite was the mushrooms. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but these were prepared with red pepper and fried egg and were delicious; it cut through the earthiness and changed the texture to something I really enjoyed. The focaccia was also a standout - it's house made and was paired with a peppery oil that complemented the bread well. For mains we split two pastas - the caccio e pepe and the rigatoni. Both of these were very good, though I felt the rigatoni was the stronger dish. It was prepared with sausage ragu, soppressata, broccoli rabe pesto, and pecorino. The flavors worked really well together and the pasta was cooked al dente. The caccio e pepe was perfectly fine, I just feel it's been overplayed and didn't feel there was anything that stood out amongst the others I've tried. We also got a broccoli rabe as a side which was great. We couldn't leave without dessert and decided to get their olive oil cake and quattro formaggio cheesecake. The restaurant is known for the former - it was perfectly fine but I've had olive oil cakes elsewhere of the same or better quality. The cheesecake was the stronger dessert IMO - the combination of cheeses gave it an interesting, almost savory flavor. The brûlée top and mascerated strawberries were great texture and flavor complements. Service was great - the place was packed but service was consistently on point and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good experience at L'Artusi. While everything was very good, I'm struggling to find the exact reason why this place became such a hot spot compared to other Italian spots in the city. Nevertheless, you'll have a good meal here and I would definitely return if given the opportunity.

Second the waiter who took our order was polite and on point with specials and knowledge of the menu. He (just never caught his name) suggested the Rigatoni which chicken and sausage.
