For months I have been wanted to bring my family over to this restaurant and to be honest, I always had doubts because finding real Mexican seafood is hard to find specially when you live over an hour away from it. Last Saturday, I did a quick phone call in which I spoke with the manager "Mayra" and ask her if she can reserved me and my family a table since we are coming from far away she was very polite and took care of business. After the arrival, a band was playing, we had a great table and the food was so delicious. Even my two teenage sons had a great time, we enjoy so much been at this restaurant and the waiter was always checking on us making sure that we were satisfied. This place is average. I would Give good stars for their drink menu and off menu drink capabilites. I always order a special drink no place has and I'm pretty impressed. My friends love their micheladas, the presentation is just as good. I think this place stands out because it is known to sever "Mexican sushi" in other words, sushi with a Mexican twist. They seve deep fried rolls with carne asada inside and they even have a chicken cordon blue roll. I give A+ for creativity. I would say they are okay. I was waiting to finally try out this restaurant. My first time tonight. It was the worst service I have ever experienced. Waited over 2 hours to receive our food/drinks. We never once got refills until we asked. Waited another 2 hours to get our check and cards back. We got seated at 6:45pm didn't leave restaurant till 10pm because server charged us double. Then turns out when you have more than 8 people at one table the server gets an automatic tip no matter what. It was $8-$11 dollars per person tip. I always tip my servers if they provide a good service. I understand that sometimes it gets busy but, it was ridiculous how much we waited for drinks, food to be checked out. Never again coming here. The food wasn't even worth the wait either it was good but waiting 2hours is ridiculous. I complained to the manager about the service that was provided and ask her if the tips are mandated because we did not want to pay money out of our pocket for a bad service. She was saying yes it is. I told her and explained to her that we wanted a refund for the tip and thankfully we got out tip. The told for the food was $360 included nine people. Personally, i love music but that place was too small to have such a large and loud banda so if you dont like loud noises i dont recommend it that much but if you do they have great music. My family has been wanting to try Culichi Town. It's a creative idea, but I think they bit off more than they could chew. Flavor is meh at best. Presentation is awesome. They spent a lot of money making this restaurant look like a 5 star restaurant, but maybe needed to focus more on the culinary trials of fusion foods. It's a hard task and they have a great idea that if they do it right, could keep them in business. However the flavors fell flat with ingredients that should have popped. We got the 3 chili peppers appetizer and they fried the peppers, cut them in half and then filled them with cold cream cheese and crab mix. Also it was not spicy, but sweet. So don't order if you're expecting a kick of any shape or form. Like negative scoville units type of not spicy! But if you don't like spicy food and like crab salad...... have at it. I feel bad writing such a bad review but my experience left me really really disappointed I spent $70 and most will wind up in the trash. It's Mother's Day so I don't know if it was just today or what but I really felt bad that this was my third choice and I didn't just wait the 20 minutes at Velvet to get the food I really wanted and would have spent 1/3 of the price. It's still a new place so maybe they are working stuff out. As for the " sushi", there is cream cheese or " Philadelphia " as the menu states haha, in EVERYTHING ( not an issue for me, but heads up if it is to you), it's the same roll a made 20 different ways and costs $12+ basically. But still.... they also had a very basic idea of what tostadas were. 1/2 their menu was tostadas but you didn't get the flat crunchy shell, only cucumbers?? Not sure if they bring it to you separate since we didn't order it but we were wondering about that. Another thing that was kinda odd, but my fiancé is Hispanic, but doesn't speak Spanish. The waitress started speaking to us in Spanish ( its fine, an honest mistake) but when we said we were sorry but we don't speak Spanish, she stared at us for a second and then in a condescending tone looks at my fiancé and says " you don't speak Spanish?", we apologize again and say no, then she says " no Spanish at all? Ok well I guess I'll go get the English speaking waitress for you." And huffed off. What was odd was she spoke English! And it wasn't broken, she spoke it well. She didn't need to get another person. So then we ordered drinks and she forgot a water. Then she came back and took our order( I don't know, we never got that other waitress she said she was going to get) and when ordering,I started with my daughter's order and I asked for no Sriracha on my daughter's sushi roll, and then ordered my roll and ashes if I could have extra Sriracha on mine. She asked if I didn't want anything hot on mine and I said " no, I'd like my roll like it says on the menu," I was only asking my daughter's to have none( she's 7) she got mad kinda. She kept telling us " ok, so nothing spicy at the table?" And I was like, "no, extra spicy on this roll ( can't remember it's name) please, just not on my daughter's dish because she's little and won't eat it if it's spicy." I was trying hard to be polite because she was getting frustrated at me I think. I don't like making people upset, but another person came up ( because we were literally next to the kitchens opening and this waitress was just walking back inside. ) she asked what I wanted, and I explained my order of my rolls and how I'd like them normal, but the Sriracha drizzle to be left off my daughter's. She and the waitress said something to each other, and said ok and then left. Over all, after the food came out, we tried it but no one ate more than 3 bites of anything and we didn't complain, and we paid for our food. They had made the food as we ordered, but it was just terrible as described above. We got 4 rolls, a margarita, and the appetizer and it came out to $75 but our recipe only had the total on it. Just no way to tell what they had on there. Supposedly if you bought the box you got any 3 rolls but you would get $5 off. No idea what the box cost or if we got the $5 off. I guess I should have complained there, but I felt bad. So I hope my review helps you not spend a shit ton of money of shit food and mediocre service. read more
