This Culvers on the west side of Columbus has excellent service and the food is good.

I sure do love me some Culver's! Culvers makes Butter Burgers meaning the take a lot of butter and put it on the grill and then grill the burger in butter. What Could be better? Culver's also has some of the best rootbeer I have ever had! I also really like Culver's fish and chips. The fish is Atlantic Cold Water Cod and it is always fresh and taste great. The ice cream is my favorite. They make their ice cream or frozen custard fresh in stores. I will for sure be back to Culver's again soon! read more

OK-I love the "special flavors" that Culver's has to offer. I have never had a problem with the quality of Culver's custard except for this location. Last October I ate VANILLA custard there after not having some in about a year. I was psyched to have some. When they handed it to me, I noticed right away the color was a yellowy color. I thought they changed to a "french vanilla" variety--WRONG! The custard had no taste, bad texture (almost grainy), and a greasy feel in my mouth! What has happened here? I called the corporate office to discuss if they changed their recipe. The answer was no. Corporate informed me they prepared it incorrectly if the custard had those qualities. They noted the complaint and asked me if I wanted the manager to contact me. Well, I got no call. Fast forward to March. I love peanuts with caramel. Add chocolate to the mix and I'm in heaven. I went to this location to get me some Double Caramel Chocolate Peanut. Geez-what a disappointment. The EXACT same horrible taste as my experience in October. How do you make custard grainy tasting. It literally tasted like tiny clumps of grease or fat in my mouth-leaving my mouth slick and greasy feeling! Oh, and there were barely any peanuts and all of 3 tiny chips of chocolate. Unfortunately it is very inconsistent and after 3 or 4 times recently getting served lukewarm food, I think I'll go somewhere else to get a 12 dollar burger and rings. Love going to Culver's for their delicious frozen custard and butter burgers! I have came here many times just for the frozen custard but I also will get a burger here every now and then. I love the setup here at Culver's. You order your food at the counter and they give you a number to place on your table so they can bring you the food. The dining room is very inviting, and I can almost go as far as calling it a cozy atmosphere. We didn't have these where I grew up and I sure wish we did! The frozen custard is made very well; it's very thick and has a ton of flavor. I always love adding at least two toppings. I believe it comes with two but you can add as many as you want for an additional fee. They have a really large menu for being a fast food restaurant and sometimes it's hard to decide what to get! Make sure whatever you end up getting to end with some of the frozen custard! UPDATE: We came here again; this time for some burgers. We both got the Wisconsin Big Cheese Burger which apparently is only here for a limited time. You know when you order something from a menu and it looks nothing like the picture? This was the exact opposite!! The burger looked exactly like the picture, if not better! It had three kinds of cheeses on it and a roasted garlic mayo. It was so delicious! This is maybe only my second time at Culver's, but I really love the burgers here. And if you're living here in Columbus, you may not know about the chain, or you may not even know that we have them, but we do! There's 3 actually, and they're on the outskirts of the suburbs, so I don't blame you for not knowing. This one is particular is right off the exit to Hilliard-Rome Road, so it's a pretty convenient location to get to. Is the burger alone worth the drive out to Hilliard, Reynoldsburg, or Powell? I can't say that it is, but I don't think I could say that about any fast food place. However, if you are out this way, and you want a quick and delicious meal, then a Culver's Butterburger is an easy decision. The burgers are super juicy, and the beef actually tastes like beef! I'm a big fan of the crinkle cut fries as well. I will say that we tried the cheese curds, and they're really just not that great. At $3.75, I can't really justify the cost for the amount and quality of the curds. Just skip it. What you really want here, aside from the burgers, if the frozen custard! This Wisconsin chain is known for it, and besides Whit's, there's not a whole lot of places in town selling it. This past time I went with a 'Cement Mixer', which is just Culver's version of a Blizzard except with frozen custard. The chocolate custard whipped up with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups is absolutely delicious but incredibly filling. If you get a chance to make it out this way, you have to stop in, especially if you haven't had it before. Alright then, I am a fan. My husband and I stopped into Culver's last Friday night to get some ice cream. We chose this place over the local Dairy Queen. I may be nuts, but we wanted to go there. I will have to say that the turtle sundae that I had was pretty good. One scoop and the extra fixin's was enough for me. Hubby had a mint shaker (?), which he said was very good. As someone who has enjoyed Culver's for years, they never disappoint. However, this Culver's seriously exceeded our expectations. We ordered through the drive through and only had to wait a few minutes for our fries and custard. The employee who brought out our food noticed our out of state license plate and was friendly. He offered to throw away our trash. They gave us more fries than we could eat and the custard was amazing- with more cookies and M&M's than expected. Very nice surprise! read more

After years of not realizing this is not just an ice cream or custard stand and is instead a full service restaraunt with ice cream and custard for dessert. I have become a big fan of Culver's the last couple of years and they are probably my favorite burger chain that has a drive thru. They make their own root beer and if I could still eat dairy it would probably make an awesome root beer float. I got carryout but the dining room appeared clean. Service was fast and friendly, was greeted walking in and thanked walking out. My favorite order is their sourdough melt without the melt. The burgers are really good, I love their meat mix. As all their food is made to order, I get the sandwich made with extra grilled onions, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. Their fries are a little thicker than most chains. When you get them fresh out of the fryer they are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Another feather in their cap is that they use heinz. While I don't eat ice cream, my friends and family love going to this place for their frozen treats and specialities at the lake. I have been there enough over the years to know they make or offer a different flavor every day to go with their standards daily offerings of chocolate and vanilla. They have recommendations to make a lot of different sundaes and they let you customize it or add to it by choosing your toppings. They have milkshakes if that is your cup of tea as well. They do have a rewards program that gives you coupons through their app and free ice cream on your birthday. This place is good for young and old as well as couples, singles, families, and groups. I am not a regular of this chain, mainly due to location. I have to be out and about near one to stop and have only dined here on 3-5 occasions. This particular location first opened in 2004, so they are approaching 13 years in Hilliard. Despite the tenure, they still stay busy, which is a testament to the food. I usually get some sort of double cheeseburger like the Double Butter Burger or their newer Pub Cheese Butter Burger, which I got last time(fantastic, if not a bit messy). For the first time, I opted to eat in, since my experience with their food is that it's messy. I ordered the 3 piece cod meal with double fries because I don't like coleslaw... cause I'm 5 years old. Culver's gives you a plastic order number that you take to your table, perhaps, to show everything is cooked to order. They even do this in the drive thru. You pour your own fountain drink and stock up on napkins and condiments(but they bring tartar sauce with the food), then go sit down. The wait was becoming excessive and I was a minute away from going to check on my food when I heard them discussing order 51. I'm order 51. So I wait patiently, fully expecting them to tell me they ran out of fish and offering a substitute. An employee appeared with my order about a minute later, and before I could say anything, told me they burned my first order so they had to make it over, and because of this, they were refunding my money. I was impressed. I got my meal(albeit 10 minutes later than expected) along with the news it would be on the house. That is outstanding customer service. They didn't wait for me to ask for anything. They knew it was the right thing to do, so they did it. Their cod is batter dipped and fried. The color was a bit dark, almost like you'd expect from a beer batter, and pretty oily. Despite that, the batter was light and tasted great. The fish did have trouble staying in one piece, possibly due to how thin the batter was. Overall, I would definitely order that again. Culver's uses my favorite type of French Fry, the crinkle cut. I know it's trendy to serve the twice fried hand cut fries like Five Guys, but the crinkle cut offers a structural rigidity, crispness and heat retention that can't be beat. For your visit, I suggest you ask for them unsalted as mine were a bit too salty. Despite that, the fries were great. Also, you've gotta try the fried cheese curds, no matter what you get. This visit gets 4/5 stars due to the oiliness of the fish and because of how salty the fries were. The service was excellent. I highly recommend you show up with friends, get a big round booth, order about half the menu and share. A place this good deserves to stay busy. read more

I have been passing by this place for years and never thought to actually go and try it until someone mentioned that the burgers are about on par with five guys. I was initially weirded out by the whole "butter burger" thing but it actually ended up being ok. I like how they have a little patio outside eating area and how the vide is a little 1950's like it used to be one of those drive in diners where the people roller skates to bring you your food to your car. I'm not sure why I picked up that vide but I did. This place could use some new signage and a fresh coat of bright paint. One of the reasons I hesitated to try t was revert thing looked so dated it made me assume everything inside would be dated.. Including the kitchen. Where my food is being made. In super old fry baskets with decades old residual oil in it. But that was not the case, everything tasted new and not like the oil was old or crusty( I'm looking at you Burger King at Wilson and Broad) I liked the fries too. Very crispy and quite perfect. I would come more for the fries than the burger as I disagree that they are on par with five guys. This is a recommend for a better burger that you can get at a drive through as opposed to Mickey D's or the like but for my money I'm willing to leave my car and stand in line. It's worth it. But if you find yourself near a Culvers and need something quick choose this over the other chains. read more

Culver's is very solid fast food. Being Wisconsin based, their cheese certainly has an edge over all other places. The place was friendly, clean, and served quality food. That said, nothing amazed us to the point of us wanting to come back. The butter burger was fresh, but nothing about it seemed different from a non-butter burger (besides superior cheese). The cheese curds and custard were tasty as well. I'm not sure they are trying to compete with gourmet burger chains (Five Guys, Smash Burger, Shake Shack, etc.). Culver's is more like a better version of your typical fast food chains. We aren't going to go out of our way to visit Culver's again (it's a bit of a drive from our home), but I would absolutely recommend it over Wendy's, Burger King, or any other similar fast food restaurant. read more

I've been going to this specific location for the past 5 years now. I enjoy the other establishments as well but not as much as I do this one. Not because of the food, the drinks, or even how clean the place is from the inside out. There is one man, and one man only, the only reason why I go to this establishment. Because this man gives me the most warm welcome feeling every time I go to this establishment. His eyes can light up the world full of darkness, is smile can be seen from afar, his luscious hair in the wind, it's the man anyone could dream for. The man I dream for. I believe we had a relationship. Something special. But apparently that changed. Today I went to the establishment and requested for the man to bring my food out to me like usual. He comes out, we greet each other, everything was nice. Until I made the apparent mistake of telling the fellow I love you. He has said it back many times in private. But this time, he just looked back, and responded with... "yeah" I was torn. Shredded if you will. I thought we had something really intimate. But I was proved wrong. If you are reading this sir, just know that my feelings will never change. I hope you come around one of these days and maybe we can start off fresh. And find a way to find love with each other. I stopped here for lunch today. It's housed in a very large building just off of Renner Road. I saw the fish on the menu and ordered a fish sandwich but maybe I should have gotten a butterburger or whatever they call it. The fish was just so-so. The service was very good. Culver's is ridiculous. Absurdly juicy, flavorful burgers called butterburgers you say? Soft, buttery buns? Cheese curds? Frozen custard?! I'm more than in. I really dig this place. Essentially a beefed-up Dairy Queen, Culver's offers burgers, fries, frozen custard, sandwiches, fried chicken and a variety of more "meal" oriented fare like pot roast. The frozen custard is killer, and the burgers are extremely tasty. And please try the cheese curds (a Wisconsin specialty -- deep fried cheese that is better than any old mozzarella cheese stick). The Dairy Queen comparison does the place a bit of a disservice, though. It's much, much better than anything I've ever eaten at DQ. Perhaps Steak and Shake is more accurate? Nope, still not even close. This is no high-priced McDonald's substitute. Beware, Culver's can get darn crowded at peak hours. I've seen the line go out the door on more than one occasion (maybe that's a sign I go here too often). Culver's is a newcomer to C-bus. And as much as I love them, I hope we don't get too many of them around town. I want the novelty to remain. read more

The food was delicious: I got the fish and was surprised at how good the flavor was. You really can't expect much when you order fish fillets at a fast food joint, but the batter was light and was cooked perfectly! My onion rings were also flavorful and fried just right. Hubs got their Butter Burger, and he was impressed how much it tasted homemade. His fries were crispy and very fresh, and they brewed a fresh pot of coffee at his request. The staff was genuinely friendly: they talked to us like real people and didn't spew a script. They looked us in the face when talking and smiled (how rare is that?!). We were unsure about the value basket options, and they didn't seem irritated at all to have to explain them for the umpteenth time. I was curious about the frozen custard, and the manager gave me a sample to try. It was so good that we shared a cherry pecan waffle cone for dessert! You order & pay at the counter, and they give you a number for the table and bring everything out when it's ready. We could not get over how clean the restaurant & the bathrooms were. That might seem trivial, but it's the attention to detail that matters these days. We really could not have had a better 'fast food' experience, and I'm also telling my 5,000 Facebook friends all about it. read more

i thought there was only one location in Ohio so we stopped for lunch on Saturday while in Columbus. Apparently there are 9 others on Ohio. Lucky us. Anyway, i liked the burgers i got but i wasn't terribly impressed with my fries, but ate them nonetheless. Danielle had a grilled chicken sandwich which wasn't too bad either. Was kinda irritated that i didn't notice they had stuffed pepper soup on the menu also. I would have gotten that, too. I've been driving past Culvers for years now wondering what it was like. Once I read Shannons review I figured it was time to check it out. The menu board has pictures of these large burgers and they look delicious. However when they were brought over to our table they were really thin. Not worth the price you pay. I have eaten here at Culvers more than 10 times in the past year. Quality of food, consistency of excellent service, excellent menu selections, extremely clean facility, easy parking and convenient location makes this restaurant a "must stop" for anyone close to the I-70 & Hilliard-Rome Rd. intersection. Beside the excellent food, the ice cream selections for desert really adds to the fun of choosing Culvers, especially if you have kids. Each kids dinner bag has a "tear off" coupon for a free dish of ice cream. There are at least six employees that have 6 or more years of service. One employee named Kathy ( has completed her undergraduate and graduate degree to become a teacher while working at Culvers) never fails to come from around the counter and give my two little grand-daughters a hug. She is a highly dedicated employee and my family will be sad to see her move on to her new teaching career after the wonderful service she has provide to us and many other thousands of customers. Just last week, I ordered a Grilled Prime Rib Mushroom sandwich that I believe is a new selection and it could not have been better. That sandwich is a real WINNER. Their Butter Burger is the primary sandwich selection and once you have eaten one, you will think twice about ever heading back to the other fast food burger locations on Hilliard-Rome Rd. This is fast food with a difference! Culver's, home of the butterburger, initially seems like any other burger joint, but a look at the menu tells you this might be something survival. Lots of variations on the burger, the usual sides plus some special items like deep fried cheese curds and a pork loin sandwich. Plus after you order at the counter they bring your food out to your table. My wife had a traditional butterburger with onion rings. Their burger is nice because it is not made with a preformed patty but is grilled in the old way. While we didn't notice any obvious butter flavor, the texture and flavor of the burger meat were really nice. The sandwiches are served on grilled buns which is really an improvement over the plain buns of most places. Onion rings were nice and crispy and the batter was nicely seasoned. I had the pork loin sandwich which is a slab of pork much larger than the bun breaded and deep fried. It was a little dry until I added some extra mayo and pepper which made it really nice. It was a pleasant change from burgers. No frozen custard or shakes for us this time, but we'd definately stop by to try them on the future. read more

Went here for the first time to try the cod sandwich and walleye. The walleye was nice and big and crispy- I'm not a walleye person but it was quite good! The fries are nice and salty too! However the cod sandwich was tiny! It was so flavorless! It basically fell apart, gosh it was pretty terrible. Additionally I was taken back by how expensive this all was, nearly $20! 'So out of respect for stories of nostalgia, followed by personal curiosity, I paid a visit to home of the Butter Burgers. 'Even though I ultimately decided against getting one after seeing the sheen on the buns, meat,..... well, just about everything. To be honest..... didn't feel great afterward. 'Really wasn't all that against the taste of food served, but I do feel like a legitimate three star restaurant (yes, even fast food restaurant) shouldn't make you second guess and recall every bite you just took like some STD you're trying to remember where you got it from. Review based on the vanilla frozen custard only... Having family from the Ohio/Michigan area, frozen custard is one of those "every blue moon" treats, when we would come visit. Culver's served up the frozen custard of my dreams. Rich, creamy, vanilla deliciousness. I didn't even mess it up with any toppings or mix-ins, although they had plenty. My kidlet had a chocolate custard "sandwich", made with what looked like to be 2 giant chocolate Oreo cookies. She enjoyed it immensely and the state of her face and hands proved it! This would be a restaurant that I would frequent if I lived in the area. Friendly staff, clean facility and delicious custard. read more
