Another trip, another Culver's. I swear--aside from Cracker Barrel, this is the place Toby and I end up the most on vacation. It literally is the best non-committal lunch spot because of its quality and extensive options on its menu. This one was no different. The roasted garlic and bacon pub burger basket? Sublime. The Reese's and Salted Caramel Concrete Mixer? Superb. Even their in-house root beer brings the best feelings out of us because it's so consistent from city to city. This place is the definition of dependable. The service was good. Are they Chik fil-A or In-N-Out where they refuse to let you have a bad experience? No. But there also not snot-nosed kids who don't give two shuts about your well-being. I'd say they fall in the middle--not going of their way to help or hurt you. And the ambiance is the same as every other location--comfy and inviting. We've always loved all the tucked away booths and tables. This dining area is big and has corners where you can distance yourself if you want more peace or major intersections if you just want to people watch. It's up to you as always. If there were an option for zero out of five stars, I would have chosen that. And for reference, of my 40+ reviews, only three have been one star. It's the service falls below ~three stars, I try to leave it for someone else. However, in this case, it was such a critical level of failure at all levels, it's somewhat obligatory. Necessary, even to the extent of concerns for food safety. Stick with me for just a moment, and I'll explain how this location completely dropped the ball on a cup of custard. Something that should be easy for them. I stopped in at 03:48 P.M. and ordered a cup of two scoops of the flavor of the day. After having to ask for my receipt, I was given that and a number to take to my table. Then, I proceeded to wait for 15 minutes while I watched people come and go through the drive-through, as well as people who came inside after me get their orders. Since I was sitting in the middle, just askew from the drink station, I could see the order counter. And there was quite a bit of standing and talking. At first, I thought it must be because there was some kind of electronic queue, and I just needed to wait my turn. Then around the 11-minute mark, it became apparent that I and my simple $4.87 order had been completely forgotten. At this point, I was glad I got the receipt so that I knew exactly how long it had been. At 15 minutes, I got back in line. When I got to the cashier, I told her that I had been waiting for 15 minutes, showed her the receipt, and asked for a refund. She passed me to another person to who I told the same thing, and all she asked was, "did you pay with cash or a card." Neither one of them was in the least bit concerned about how they had completely stuck out on a simple order. No apology, no nothing. Okay. Maybe they're new, maybe that's the policy, I don't know. I left, but before getting out of the shopping center, I decided to turn around and go through the drive-through. After all, I did drive up here from LoDo just for this flavor. (Now we're almost close to the even bigger failure.) From order to custard, it was less than three minutes. Okay, now we're back on track. That is the Culver's we all know and love. However... Even their custard was wrong. It was 74-degree weather, and in an air-conditioned car. Yet, the dish had the consistency of something between pudding and soup. The portion size was okay, though. If you see the picture, it's titled, and there is a lot of custard against the lid. After only a few bites, I quit even trying. With a good amount of time to drive home, it dawned on me that there was one of two options for what had happened with the Dark Chocolate PB Crunch: They were not keeping it at the right temperature. What they ultimately gave me was the exact two scoops I had ordered over 20 minutes ago. While the second is the most likely option, both are a cause of concern. I would be scared to try any cooked food there. And this chain is so good, it's surreal that I'm writing this. In fact, on the whole, it's top tier. But the 9790 Washington St Thornton, CO 80229 is almost like a Sbarro's in a failing mall. I will continue to go to the other locations in the area. In fact, I'll be at a different one in the next three days. I do still want to know what that flavor tastes like when it's done right. While I may update this review in the near future (grammar/syntax/readability), I will not be trying this location again for a few years. 08/22/2023 UPDATE: The business posted a note about wanting to hear more. I followed their request and went to the site. A couple of notes. 1. That was days ago, and I still haven't heard anything back. 2. It was a canned response that was very disingenuous. It's easy to tell from how it was worded. "We'd love to hear more about this experience." After I wrote a 600+ word review. There isn't much more to hear; moreover, the site offers only 1,200 characters for the review. Using a copy-and-paste response like that is adding insult to injury. Haven't ate here much but food was always good. Went through the drive thru, got my food and went home. Ordered 2 different burgers one for me and my partner. Opened one box for my burger and noticed the same curly hair found in the photo.called and complained. I didn't eat mine I threw it away and just thought it may have been accidental. Partner ate hers and spit out this hair pictured below. The same hair I found in my burger. Had to drive back and get a refund. While getting a refund one of the lady employees made sure to interrupt and told me to make sure I brought the food next time along with the receipt which I did bring. This time a got Walleye fish and onion rings instead of fries. My wife got Cod and chips and said it was very good. Why is it anywhere you get fish and chips it's pouring out excess oil. Maybe they need to throw it in a salad spinner for a couple turns. Cole slaw is pretty good also. My walleye was good but a touch fishy, the cod was not fishy at all. Went there for the first time last night. Most of the tables were empty, but none were clean; we chose the least dirty booth and wiped it down ourselves. We ordered the butter burgers -- mine was a single cheese burger, my bf had the double bacon burger. I asked for tomato on mine, which is +$0.20. This is the first place that's ever charged me extra for a slice of tomato. The burgers were bland and dry. Comparable to something from the McDonald's dollar menu. For sides we had cheese curds and chili fries. Both were fine, nothing exciting, nothing I'd order again. We didn't order dessert, but it looked good. We have always enjoyed Culver's but the increase in wholesale prices have had an impact on their products. We ordered a one scoop flavor of the day ice cream and it was so small. Stopped at Culver's for their butterfly shrimp meal. after a friend told me how good it is. Choose from 6 or 10 piece. Comes with crinkle-cut French fries and beverage. Upgrade to a milkshake for a little more. They were so busy (or understaffed) that there were four vehicles parked in front of us, waiting for their food. This place has gone way downhill.. Culver's used to have great service, accurate and quality food and now it feels like McDonalds- just much more expensive. From the curt and rude "service", to the kids paying attention to their phones instead of customers at the drive through window, and the incorrect orders and sloppy food. What a huge bummer! We've been coming here for years. We kept trying, thinking it was a fluke, but it's now FOUR times in a row that we experienced crummy service, inaccurate orders and only okay food. Time was at about 20:17hrs. There are a couple of seats at the Patio, aka OUTSIDE. Yes you order at the counter, and once you are done ordering, they gave you a "number counter". Hubs and I choose to seat at one of the booths, where Hubs can catch the FOOTBALL Game (BRONCOS VS RAVENS) that evening. Yes they have the Fountain Drink Dispenser, the standard - Ketchup, Mustard Dispenser and all the plastic cutlery you need which was situated at the center of this establishment. Culver's made their OWN Root Beer, offer different kind of "Flavor Of The Day" Desserts and Specials Of The Day Menu. From what I could recall we order these items : * Butter Burger Basket with Fries and Medium Fountain Drink ($7.09) * Cod Fillet Basket with Fries and Medium Fountain Drink ($8.09) * Curd Cheese ($3.67) * 1 Side Of Jalapenos ($0.25) Total cost for the Dinner was $20.75 with tax. About 20:30hrs ish, then our food order was sent to our table. The Side of Jalapenos are the ones which are already pickled. I was hoping for the fresh cut Jalapenos. Oh Well... Personally, my order of Cod Fillet was just A-OK. The Cod Fillet Basket comes with Lightly Butter Toasted Hoagie Roll, the Cod Fillet, Tartar Sauce, Shredded Lettuce and Cheddar. The tartar sauce inside the Cod Fillet, was too little for my liking, but at least my food came out piping hot, aka means they cook to order and NOT leaving the food "standing" at the food warming tray. The Fries the Crinkle Cut Fries, NOT to my liking, but Hubs like his Fries this way ALOT! Hubs like his Burger though its a kind of norm portion for him. He opt to have the Butter Burger. Cannot recall which one though. He also like the Curd Cheese way better than I do. Coz I don't grow up eating Curd Cheese, so I don't really fancy those as much as Hubs. That evening maybe due to the FOOTBALL Game, and perhaps at that hour, the Dining area was so quiet, though there are a few more Patrons deciding to have their Dinner, while we were there. The Cheese Curds were the reason I bookmarked this place and after looking over Culver's offereing online, the many flavors of frozen custards actually made me come in. Needless to say how sorry I was of wasting 600 calories on such "novelty" desserts when it wasn't even as good as Wendy's or Good Time's. I wanted the Boston Cream flavor but that wasn't featured at this location, so the gal put in an order for me that consisted of two scoops of vanilla frozen custard, drizzles of Bavarian cream, and a hard chocolate shell to top it off. Both sounded and looked really good. However, the add-ins tasted very artificial, even plasticky, I thought. I threw most of it away and by then, the vanilla custard had already melted. I made sure to try the cheese curds, they were good, but will I order them again when it's higher in calorie than two of their original burgers? Probably not, especially when it didn't even come with dipping sauce (so why the hell is it so fattening? I mean, French fries are deep fried and loaded with starch and carb too!) The original butter burger, single patty was enjoyable, you can taste the beef and the fact that it's made to order. The Beef Pot Roast sandwich with steak sauce was OK, my boyfriend ate most of it. Since we threw almost half of the dessert away, it felt like we desserved another sandwich when the first two were quite little. The Reuben Melt became the highlight of the meal, very satisfying! If I ever visit Culver's again, I'll probably focus on just a burger, with all the proper add-ins such as cheese and bacon. Been there probably 6-7 times and they have never gotten my order right. Got a salad with no silverware at all. Charged me for things I told them to take off. Never hand out knifes for anything. If you want delicious fast, you must go here. Yes it takes longer through the drive through than any other fast food but what you get is freaking worth it. The burgers are delicious and their onion rings are some of the best onion rings I've ever had in my life. The staff seems to be all high schoolers or kids who've just graduated. Every time I've gone over the past year, my frustration grows. I feel like they are going out of their way to create an awful experience. Today's argument was over a nationwide promotion that ends in 3 days. They had a banner still up but wouldn't honor it because "we're just not doing that anymore."
