As I made this realization, I noticed out of the corner of my eye movement. The man in the car behind me was seriously busting a move. In fact I thought he was seizing out. We also picked a carrot cake slice, a piece of tres leches cake and a peanut butter cup cookie for good measure. Once the meals were made, we took them home to eat. The guy who made our food asked me when he was putting the wrap together if I wanted "everything" on it. I asked what everything meant, and he went down the list of veggies and sauces. I told him that the only thing I didn't want was peppers of any kind. Despite this, the wrap had two different kinds of peppers. The falafel inside the wrap was cold, dry, and fell apart like sand. It was hands down one of the worst falafel I've ever eaten. Unfortunately that's not where it ended. Hubby's sando was terrible, he said the sauce on the grinder was so heavy handed, he couldn't taste anything inside it. The desserts were not much better, with the cookie being dry and crumbly, and the cakes being ok but not great. The wait time for these items to be made was pretty long, and even with that long wait time they were not well made, or even made according to our personal order. I don't know of the quality of the items, because they tasted so bad, we got maybe two or three bites in and chucked them directly in the garbage. Prices were ok if they had been worth eating, and service was slow and inaccurate. I'm not sure what the hype is here, but it's definitely not for the items we had at our visit. We will definitely not be returning, given how many other better options exist in this area.

The parking lot is quite spacious, but the plaza only offers paid parking, however you can get your parking validated with purchase at any store in the plaza with proof of parking ticket. The store itself was clean, rather spacious, and well organized with clearly labeled aisles and pricing. I found that you could get many of the staple items at nearby competitors for nearly half the price. I thought they offered unique products in the meals to go section for a reasonable price point. I would recommend the mini snackle boxes and raw pressed juices. Those could actually be useful for a nearby beach trip and I liked that they use glass jars. The woman running the cafe section of the store was very hospitable, but as other Yelpers have mentioned some of the other store associates were less than enthused. I kind of get it though, Newport's upper echelon isn't the easiest clientele to interact with so I would probably get a little stoic over time as well.

But no biggie. Several items on sale throughout the store and not to much out of stock. We picked up breakfast yogurt, berries, milk, cereal, fruit, bread, cheese/sandwich meat, hummus and some baby carrots. Very happy not to have to travel off the island to get groceries for a couple of days.

Afterwards I wanted a seltzer water to wash it down, no seltzer water available, only sugar drinks and soft drinks for 2.49 and up, no Whole Foods brand flavored seltzer by the can only warm uncooled by the case available. They want to ensure you spend 2.49 and up instead of .99 for seltzer. What a sleazy move.!!

Solid selection here, not the biggest supermarket, and not the smallest. I like that they are locally owned and operated. My husband is all in on the prepared foods selection here-- from the fried chicken to the spaghetti and meatballs, he always finds something he likes. They do a great job at having a ton of casiers so overall you can be in and out pretty quickly.

We don't live in the Newport area, but stop by the base several times a year and always include a…read morestop at the Commissary. My husband loves being on base and grocery stores so this is a win-win for him. The base itself is on the small side, so the Commissary is not a 'super store'. As with all Commissary's, the person packing your groceries is working for tips. If you are not the tipping sort or have a very fixed budget, they have self check-out. During certain hours of the day, military personnel in uniform go to the top of the queue so don't be upset if you have to wait a bit to check-out - that sailor needs to get back to work! Carts/buggies/carriages are kept inside the entrance on the left. Here, and just inside the store you may find items on sale or sold in bulk. A small Sushi kitchen kiosk is located in front of the produce department, just inside the store. The selection of produce is pretty good with a small 'organic' section located at the back where you'll also find Tofu and refrigerated salad dressing. Meats run along the back wall and that selection is pretty good as well as the prices. Dairy and frozen items are in the far corner, opposite side from the entrance. Dry goods inventory here consists of the 'usual suspects'. They offer a limited selection of national brands and a few items from other countries you may have been stationed in. A deli featuring Boar's Head cold cuts, prepared items, cheeses and bakery items is just past the check-out lines. They will make you a sandwich 'to-go'. Price list is over the meat counter. We found some sweet treats from Italy in the bakery area last visit. Frozen foods sometimes include 'past sale date' meats at a reduced price. All the expected items: veg, pizza, bowls, fish, etc. are here. Milk, OJ, eggs, yogurt and so on are in the dairy corner. Sometimes you'll find whole turkeys in chest freezers here. Be sure to check the freezer cases throughout this area as the inventory changes. MRE's are for sale over by the registers aisle. They cost more than dehydrated hiking meals and I do wonder who is spending that much on MRE's. They offer a variety of canned goods including meats such as chicken, spam, corned beef and tuna, Shelf stable milk is available (school lunch) and plenty of snacks, sweet and savory. The parking lot is huge so no need to worry about finding a spot. Some spaces are reserved and the lanes are 'one way' so be sure you are headed in the right direction and don't park in the commodore's spot! Watch out for the elderly and small children in the parking area. Also, because the base is 'right on the water' this parking lot can get very windy! Hold on to your hat and umbrella! Years ago a DECA employee (DECA run the Commissary system) said prices are better when it's not payday. As a young family on a military budget, we usually had an empty larder come payday, so it's not easy to 'hold off' buying groceries for a few days. As retired military, we can stop by any time and I do find prices seem better between pay days versus near pay day. Just my personal observation. Take it as you will. Hope this info is useful!
