No clue why there guys aren't rated 5 stars, their cupcakes are the BOMB!! I am very picky but just thoroughly enjoyed their cupcakes. Tried the thin mint and a few other flavors and they are just SO well made! Very flavorful, moist and just well thought out flavors which change every month. Bought some Oreo and Strawberry Macarons during their $1.00 sale for my daughter's birthday party and they were so delicious! Everyone asked me where I got them from. Their cupcakes and other desserts look so good! Will be back to try more goodies. Everyone at the shop is so friendly and provides great customer service. I like that Nikki goes to my church and that her business is Christ-oriented. The shop environment is so inviting and makes you wanna buy everything! Keto options?!? Soo hard to find anywhere and was so happy to find an option on the Big Island! I tried the Keto Cheesecake daily sampler which had ube & lilikoi. I personally enjoyed both, but favored the Ube. I brought some cupcakes home to my husband on Oahu who enjoyed them thoroughly. I hope that on my next trip, they also offer keto cupcakes!! read more

A Friend and I bought several desserts from this establishment. One of them was an energy bar and a peanut butter cookie. Wasn't a pleasant taste to them. If you ever walk into the store you will get a whiff of how the store smells. That smell will get absorbed in the food and will end up in someone's mouth. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this besides my friend and I. Did go back for a refund and there was no problem with that. Employees are great! The owner might need to get an air filter or change something up to prevent this from happening. I'm sure others enjoy this spot but unfortunately for i not so much. read more

Cupcakes, BOOM is the cutest thing to happen to Hilo. From the moment you step inside, you're assaulted with hot pink everything. After your eyes get adjusted, you finally zero in on the two large cases filled with the daily cupcake flavors. Each cupcake is only $2.50, and they don't skimp on the frosting. My boyfriend Jake and I got three cupcakes: Cookies & Cream, Nutella, and White Chocolate Strawberry. To fill out a box of four, we threw in a Caramel Apple Cheesecake ($3) that comes in its own mini tin. Two thumbs way up for the White Chocolate Strawberry -- a moist strawberry cake topped with frosting, white chocolate chips, and a dash of strawberry sauce. It's refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness. However, while I fell in love with the Nutella frosting -- so rich and decadent!! -- I was disappointed by the chocolate cake underneath -- it wasn't very moist and tasted kind of ordinary. Jake bit into his Cookies & Cream cupcake and was surprised to find a soft Oreo in the center. It's garnished with one on top as well. Other flavors available during our visit were Pina Colada and Li Hing Mui, so there's definitely something for everyone. Whether you're getting one cupcake or four, service is great and they provide you with an appropriately sized box to transport your precious cargo. There are also a few tables and chairs outside along the sidewalk if you plan to savor your treats right then and there! I'm looking forward to trying more of their unique flavors. PARKING: Free! Mmmm... Cupcakes.... Hubby made a stop here and picked up some cupcakes for us. He said service was good, and that they were busy. These cupcakes are the bomb. Most flavors are fantastic. The cake is fluffy and the frosting is flavorful without being cloyingly sweet. I've had the lilikoi, pb&j, cookies and cream, and cookie dough flavors and daaaaaang they were good! I did knock off one star because the frosting on one of the flavors (lilikoi) didn't quite hold up and slid off the cupcake in the box. It was quite a messy endeavor to get the cupcake out because of the frosting mess. Tip - they offer mini cupcakes by the dozen - perfect for sharing a sweet bite with family, friends, coworkers, etc. Tip - it helps to phone ahead. Flavors sell out quickly. While hubby was there, a phone order for 4 dozen of one flavor came in and pretty much depleted that flavor for the day. read more

It had pretty good reviews and I decided to give it a try so here it goes. Greeted upon entering. I've seen in reviews that they change cupcakes here and there. I purchased a green tea cupcake with green tea flavored buttercream sprinkled slightly with green tea powder. The buttercream was not as sugary as people says it was and the cake part it wasn't that moist or that dry, like on a scale of 1 to 10 it is a 5. The buttercream was not vibrant green so you know they don't add food coloring in it but it could have used a bit more green tea flavoring. On a scale of 1 to 10 the whole cupcake was a 6. There also a green pudding in the center, I suppose it was vanilla pudding with green tea powder mixed in. The second cupcake was kind of like a French toast thing going on. The buttercream was maple syrup flavored topped with fruit that consisted of blueberries, half a strawberry, and one raspberry. The buttercream on this one was not good to me on the scale I said earlier it is a 1. I think the cause of that is the "maple" syrup they used. I say this because the buttercream is sweet enough but when you add "maple" syrup it is way too sweet. I also do not think it is real maple syrup, it tasted more like a knock off brand that used artificial flavoring and it got its sweetness from corn syrup. Now for the cake part, honestly it was more on the dry side and I give that a 3. It also lacked a some flavor but it wasn't terrible. In the center was fruit, blueberries and half a raspberry. All in all for this whole cupcake a rate it a 4. I was told it was made from scratch but I'm actually not sure if it is or not. They could though improve their recipes and make a couple of tweaks here and there. So they scored a 10/20 for the cupcakes. I will though be coming back and updating or writing another review if I'm allowed to. I am curious as to what other flavors will they be selling on my next visit. read more

I had such a weird experience here. I went in and ordered an açaí bowl around noon, which a woman working the counter prepared for me. I left with it, and began to eat it right away since it was my lunch. However, the entire base was frozen - and thus inedible. I returned- maybe just 5 minutes after I'd received the bowl - and explained the issue to the woman at the counter who had prepared it. She was busy helping a few other customers and fulfilling their orders, so she took the frozen bowl from me and asked if I was ok waiting a bit for a new one. I said yes. After she finished with those customers, she went out back to prepare my new bowl. Since she made it fresh this time rather than pulling it from a freezer, it took a while. While she was making it, I could hear her speaking with a couple other women also apparently working back there - but nobody else had stepped in to assist and speed things up for me or the other previous customers. Anyway, I got my açaí bowl after a 20-25 minute wait during that second preparation. It ended up being pretty average. While I was thanked for waiting, no apology was offered for the initial frozen bowl nor was I offered anything else - like a baked good or a drink while I was waiting. I really wish I didn't waste my time here. Maybe the baked items are good? I can't speak to those. read more

Nice hostess, but some of the worst cupcakes I've ever had. At $3.25 each such a shame. The cake portion was smaller than even a large pkg at the grocery store, about 1.5" tall. Very dry, if I were to guess I'd say at least 4 days old. The frosting was beautiful, but putting it in a custom cupcake container (meant for a nice size cupcake you get at most cupcake stores), just destroyed it as just going to the car it flipped around in the plastic container. I probably would have bought a PKG, but the PKG price was zero discount unless you got the largest. 4 and 6 we're the same price each as buying one, but it was posted on the board advertising it as a deal. The macarons were perfect texture (hard to achieve), but the filling was so sickeningly sweet I couldn't finish one. Too bad, so sad. Don't waste your money! read more

You know, the cupcakes I bought sat in my car in the hot sun all day so I'm not going to review how they might have tasted if I ate them when I bought them. I'll just say they were gone in one sitting when I finally DID get to them. But, the shop is really cute (they actually made an effort to decorate (! this is somewhat unusual in Hilo) and they also sell chocolate truffles which I gave to a friend as a gift ----and apparently he ate them all in one sitting--- so there's more here than just cupcakes. My only complaint is that not all cupcakes had identifying signs and I hate asking multiple times "what is that one?" ... also, the cupcake signs that were there could be way more descriptive about what is actually the cake flavor, filling flavor, etc. I want the sign to read like the contestant is next in line to describe their cupcake to the judges on Cupcake Wars. If you're going to sell me cupcakes, SELL ME YOUR CUPCAKES :) read more

I was so excited to have a cupcake shop open in Hilo! The shop is adorable, the staff is awesome, and they get 5 stars for creativity. The cupcakes are beautiful and they always come up with really neat flavors, ones I would never think to make into a cupcake. I deducted two stars because although their cupcakes look amazing the taste is far off. I have tried several different flavors and quite honestly they all taste the same to me. They are on the drier side and taste super sugary! Whenever I'm craving a cupcake I'll still stop by but I wish the flavors packed more of a punch. I'm comparing the taste to Bleu Cupcakery in Kona. At Bleu the moment you bite into the cupcake there is an explosion of flavor. I'm hoping with time Cupcakes Boom will improve and step it up a notch. read more

The frosting held firm but when you bit into it it had a watery texture. The cupcake was salty and very dense and dry. The best part was the white chocolate crumbles on top. Went here a few times with a sweet tooth that I was hoping to crave. The cupcakes look beautiful, the shop is very cute and bright and the staff is very friendly. However, the cupcakes taste like boxed cupcakes that are dyed different colors to match a certain presentation. Also the buttercream tastes too sweet and fake. It does not have any flavor, just sweet, too sweet, and there are tiny sugar granules that should not be in buttercream. I will not be coming back especially for the price. I'd rather get my sweet fix somewhere else with better quality desserts. read more

Stopped by with a friend and we each got one. I was very disappointed with it. If I'm paying $2.50 for a cupcake I don't want box cake. You could easily go to the store and make your own for around the same price and get more out of it. They were also not very flavorful. The lime cupcake was a white box cake with food coloring and as far as we could taste had no lime flavoring. The buttercream frosting had some lime flavoring but was extremely sweet and had crunchy sugar granules that don't belong in a proper buttercream. The white chocolate strawberry had more flavor but still overly sweet and had that box cake flavor. The only good thing about them is the presentation. They look awesome but a complete let down when you eat them. If she switches to making her cake from scratch I would consider trying them again. read more
