Man can't say enough about this place always have a great experience, love the good mix of Authentic and Tex-Mex, offerings, today I had the Caldo de res (Beef soup) Mexican style, love that they are generous with the meat, soft and tender, sometimes you get lucky and even get some bone with marrow yummy! Authentic Mexican food? You've found a decent place. It's next to a Fiesta grocery store in a strip mall area. Decor was nice and didn't have to wait to be seated on a Saturday afternoon. Chips and salsa were okay. I personally would have preferred a less liquid type of salsa but it wasn't bad. They serve you warm corn tortillas. We ordered 2 orders of guacamole to start off, and they are served with the lime and everything on the side so you can mix it yourself. It was really good, the only thing was that one order came with a lemon and one didn't? Entrees came pretty quickly. I ordered cheese enchiladas with verde sauce. I would have enjoyed them more if they were chicken, just because for some reason I expected cheddar cheese but got Monterey Jack. Refried beans and rice were good. My bf ordered the burrito plate and he enjoyed his plate. Photos of each are included as well as the chips and salsa. One of my favorite drinks at Mexican places is the Horchata, and I tried it out here. It was good, but I've had better. San Diego Taco Shop is the one that makes me drool for it, more cinnamon I think. Took a snapshot of the drink as well. Good experience overall. It took awhile to get our checks, and we asked to split the bill. Unfortunately when it came back it was split incorrectly, but we were in too much of a hurry to wait for it to be corrected. I've been coming to Cuquita's since I was 5. Authenticity is always verified within the first few steps you take in the restaurant..clientele is mainly...Mexicanos. Score. We know our food and how good it can be if it's done right. And this place definitely delivers that which is why it's flocked to here in Richardson. You get real freshly made corn flour tortillas. Ladies and gentlemen butter that up and eat. The flavor itself of something so simple lingers in your mouth after your done. And it's just a tortilla??? Yes. Anything from the menu delivers. What I highly recommend is their tacos al carbon, green salsa enchiladas, tacos de Barbacoa, or their amazing quesadillas. The rice and beans are perfect and not just seasoned with salt. Cuquitas is a local treasure; where the flavors are simple yet authentic, the portions generous, and the prices are great. A very rare combo these days. Every diner gets a fresh, warm tortilla with butter - in addition to the standard chips and salsa. This place is largely patronized by Mexican immigrants, which is a huge bonus in my book. If it's good enough for them, you know the flavors are legit. The rice and beans are made with vegetable oil, not lard and/or meat stock. So they're vegan/vegetarian friendly. Do know that they have live mariachi music on Sunday afternoons. A wonderful cultural experience, but brace yourself for a 2+ hour wait as it's popular with the after church crowd. read more

First off great service! Now based on these two plates. Flautas shredded beef had grease taste as well as the ground beef in the enchiladas. It lingers in your mouth and you don't want to take another bite. This is the only issue experienced there. Food is filling and much better than a typical tex-mex. I love getting breakfast here! My favorite is always the Huevos Con Chorizo! I love getting that with an Agua De Horchata o Jamaica, both are very refreshing. The service here is always great and everyone is so nice. I love that they always serve chips and salsa. They also bring out warm flour tortillas with butter to spread on it and it's so delicious! It can get quite busy during the weekends so it can be quite hectic, so I recommend going during the week. read more

The cheese enchiladas with verde sauce (green sauce) is yummy HOT and VERY cheesy. Another great is the Gordito comes in (chicken, beef, pork, bean, egg with potato)all mentioned you can include cheese with any combination, or just cheese (my favorite). There chili relleno is another favorite of mine (and of course I order the ... just cheese relleno) comes with chicken, beef, pork, or cheese. Their nachos are wonderful! I have been a fan of Cuquita's and have a customer for close to 30 years, but yesterday's visit was a disappointment. Service was horrible and the food was not up to the usual standard. Our server must have been new and wasn't very helpful...she was forgetful and not very professional. We ordered an appetizer of Queso Flameado and it was brought to the table as a melted blob of cheese in a bowl with what appeared to be a teaspoon of chorizo. When I asked about the "flameado" part, our server mentioned the cheese was melted in the microwave. When I complained she left the table without a word and another server came to our table to remove the bowl of cheese without a word about it. When our server returned to the table to get our dinner order, she din't mentioned anything about the bowl of cheese or ask if we would like something else. Our dinner entrees were average and my Guiso de Puerco was dry. The rice and beans were good. The other entrees of our party of 5 ranged from Chicken Enchiladas, Beef Enchiladas, Cheese Enchiladas and Menudo and there were no complaints other than the food didn't taste freshly cooked. I have been here many times. Came here with a group of friends on Friday and had awful service! I know there were 12 of us, but come on... the place was not even that busy. They only gave us 1 waitress and she was freaking out the whole time! It took us over 40 minutes to get our bar drinks and almost an hour to get our food. This place is awesome, the food is delicious, but not for large groups! They really lost out, we all wanted to get more than 1 margarita in before our movie, they could have made another 100$ off of our table. My favorite Mexican food in the metroplex. I always get the chicken enchiladas mixto with half green and half red sauce. I've had most everything on the menu here and it's all good. Ventured off into the barrio to find this place, tucked away in a shopping center in which I passed two La Michoacana's to get there. I was seated promptly by the hostess, and immediately noticed that everyone around me was speaking Spanish. This was a good sign. As I reviewed the menu, I noticed there were very little tex-mex options. Another good sign, if your in the mood for authentic Mexican food. The place was buzzing with customers with loud Spanish music playing and a t.v. showed a Spanish speaking news program. My insecureness in trying something new prompted me to order the beef enchiladas with red sauce. 15 minutes later they came out smothered in a cheesy green sauce. The waitress also brought only water, after asking for a Coke. She promptly retrieved my Coke after reminding her when she brought the food out. I'll give her a pass on these small errors, since it was apparent she had suffered a stroke in the past since half her face was paralyzed. Ventriloquism may be her calling these days. The salsa that came before the meal was definitely homemade and very spicy. It had lots of different textures to it. The verde sauce on the enchilada's wasn't that bad at all, cheesy and hot (not spicy). The rice was light and flavorful, the beans were scalding hot, looked and tasted watery. So what I did with the enchilada's is smother them with rice and beans and salsa, and wah la! They were ready to eat. The waitress brought out a plastic cup filled with ice and sat the can of Coke on the table. That's unusual, I can't see how they save money with buying mammoth amounts of canned soda. Cuquita's on Henderson was our go-to place until : ( the location was sold to some college crowd restauranteur. So I went to the Richardson location last year when we tracked down this location. I guess it all depends on what you order so I am telling you the pozole IS the best in Dallas and makes the drive from Knox Henderson a non-issue. This is a pork roast soup with chickpeas in it and a red chili broth. It's not "native Thai" hot, but it will clear your lungs. If you are Anglo, don't even try to make this on your own. It's a lengthy process. I can't remember what my boyfriend gets, but he's a pozole lover, too. We always get out for less than $20 including tip. This is where the Mexicans go, but why should they get all the good deals?? The waitresses speak enough English to get your order right. That's all that counts. read more

This location, Farmer's Branch and the now non existent Knox-Henderson location, but I think no longer. From our first visit, the bar wasn't set very high, but it's been getting progressively lower. So there were only 2 other tables when we arrived and the restaurant was COLD. Most of the patrons were still wearing their coats. We were served chips and salsa...sadly the chips were very stale. I'm guessing they were closed on Christmas, so we probably got chips from Christmas Eve. Bleh, bad start. Cuquita's also brings you tortillas with some butter before your food, and the tortillas were obviously undercooked. They were mealy and cold. Not pleasant. He got chorizo chilaquiles and I got pappas con huevos. My food came with refried beans and I requested flour tortillas. Thank goodness those tortillas were toasty and good, or I probably would have lost it. Eggs and potatoes were simple, and plain. Good, but some bacon or something would have been better. Don't think I noticed bacon on the menu though. Refried beans were pleasant. His chilaquiles plate was drowning in red oil from the chorizo. Good flavor but painfully obvious that this food is not good for you! Bff ate about half before he gave up. Oh, also, bff ordered horchata. They said it would be a few minutes as they had not made it yet. When it finally came out, you could tell they had just thrown it together and it was not mixed correctly. Independent restaurant in a Mexican-based strip mall nestled next to a Fiesta grocery off Spring Valley. Interior is bigger than it looks from the outside, and overrun with Mexican decor. A short iron fence marks off a patio in front of the place. The menu is strongly Mexican rather than Tex-Mex, and the food is great. Had the guiso de puerco with R&B, very good with a homemade taste to everything. Tortillas were hand-made and delicious, but the chips (served with two salsas) were commercial store-bought. She was right on target this was more authentic Mexican food than "Tex-Mex". There are items on the menu most Tex-Mex restaurants don't have-such as La Lengua, Milaneza, Caldo De Res, etc. I went for breakfast and had the Machacada con Huevos, or Shredded Beef with Eggs. Half the plate was covered with perfectly scrambled eggs, with tender shredded beef. Soft chopped green peppers and onions were also mixed in. Being the cheese lover that I am, I loved that it was covered with melted shredded jack cheese. It was served with smooth and tasty refried beans. The salsas were good. One was red and mild, perfect for my husband, and the other was slightly chunky with a little kick. The chips were crispy, but had a little bit of a greasy taste. The white corn tortillas were good and served on the side. We had a choice of flour or corn, I like corn with my breakfast. My husband sacrificed one of his barbacoa tacos for the cause. I did not find any fat blobs or find it particularly more oily than most barbacoa. It was tender and tasty. It was served with rice and refried beans. It also was served with tomato, fresh pico de gallo and lime wedges. Always a refreshing kick to add cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Each of our breakfasts were $7.75. I ordered a menudo without meat, I'm not a fan of the meat. I have ordered it many many times before however never to go. I got home and it was a bowl of only caldo no hominy. I called, Faviola who also took my order, very rudely told me they no longer serve the menudo with only hominy. She hanged up the phone without even allowing me to say a word. So on a recent trip to Dallas, a friend suggested that we go to Cuquitas since she was told by someone who is Mexican and local that it was the best place in the area for authentic Mexican food. The people who rave about this place suggest that people who think it's bland are just not familiar with authentic Mexican cuisine. I'd argue that I'm sure Mexican people like great tasting food and their pallates don't have a preference towards bland and boring. Ordered the queso flameado to start and it was basically a lump of melted cheese in a small cup where you cut off and rolled into a tortilla. I like cheese and tortilla so it was good, but honestly, where is the inspiration here? Got some complimentary chips and salsa - the chips probably came from a bag somewhere and the salsa was so watery. Ordered the chicken fajitas and the beef enchiladas. I should note that I don't like salty or over-seasoned, but it seemed like these came with almost no seasoning at all. Service was decent and the prices were reasonable, but I don't think I will return here again because there are so many other Mexican places in the DFW area that are much better tasting and probably cost about the same. read more

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant!! My brother found this place 7 years ago and my family and I have enjoyed coming here ever since! Their Mexican food is truly "authentic". Everything we have tried here is 10/10. I especially love their chicken flautas... Very crispy and the meat is fresh.
