Was here today with a mexican friend for a quick lunch. My friend said it would be authentic and from what I saw on the menu I was impressed. Not just your typical tacos and burritos... They have classic soups and stews which was very pleasing to me because now I know that mexicans eat more than just tortillas! They greet you with chips and salsa. Unfortunately they don't seem to make their own chips, but they also give you a freshly made tortilla with butter. I had never seen that before and was so happy because it just tasted simple and delicious. I had the gorditas, which reminded me of awesomely delicious venezuelan arepas. Yum! The best restaurant Menudo in DFW. Super fresh. Very flavorful. Always! This review is based mainly on a very specific dish - Menudo! Although I've been coming here for several years...when they had the location on Henderson which is now "Hacienda on Henderson", this is really the only location on now come to. Anywho, it should be noted that while I grew up eating this classic Mexican dish growing up, I rarely eat it as an adult although I still enjoy the flavors very much. When I say rare, I mean I eat it about 1-2x a year max, and almost always during the Christmas/New Year holiday season. It should also be noted that I have almost exclusively eaten it home made - either out of my Grandmother's or my parent's kitchen. Cuquitas' version is the closest reminder of the authentic flavors that my Grandmother introduced me to so so many years ago as a kid. It is very clean. (Anyone who who has experienced actually making menudo knows it MUST be cleaned very well or can be very stinky!) Generous portions of tripe, hominy and even pig feet (not for everyone). Perfectly, not overly, seasoned mild broth. And a gracious amount of sides: chopped white onions, fresh chopped jalapenos, lemons. They almost always bring you limes so you have to ask for lemons if that's what you want. Lemons are what I prefer. And the best part. Wait for it. ((drum roll please)) Fresh handmade corn tortillas. The must-have culinary side to enjoying Menudo the right way. So for anyone new to the dish or just wanting to get a little adventurous, I definitely recommend Cuquitas as your first line of defense :-) read more

Authentic Mexican Food ? You bet it is! The fajitas are cooked to perfection. And it comes combined with rice and beans and lettuce and tomatoes. The flour tortillas are so fluffy and good. The horchata is the best I've tasted in Dallas without a doubt. The portions are large so you won't leave hungry. Ideally you and a date can eat like kings for only $30. Good food, good service, food atmosphere: I decided to have breakfast for lunch (see the back of the menu) instead of the specials. The Machacado con huevo was delicious: shredded beef, eggs, peppers and onions served with a side of refried beans and tortillas. Delicious. read more

No refills Every drink on the menu has a note next to them stating no free refills or one free refills. The fountain drinks on the other hand don't have any notes. They bring you a can of soda. I'm better off going to the fiesta next door and buying a case of sodas for cheaper the price here. The drinks are no good. read more

Chips were ok. Tasted like regular Doritos. Two salsa's both were warm and thin. One had no chunks of anything, just watery. The only particulate in the other was rolled up tomato skin. The tortilla that was served pre-meal with butter was excellent. The enchilada's, 2 beef, 1 cheese were disgustingly greasy, but where did that grease come from? It was either from the inch thick mountain of cheese that covered the entree or that very thin salsa roja that was poured on top. Seriously, there was so much cheese, I had trouble finding the enchilada. That greasy roja also found it's way ove to the rice and tainted it beyond edibility. Left feeling a little sick. Tea was not only re-filled, but it was brought in a fresh second glass with ice. WIGB? Uh, no. read more

This is for their fresh tortillas and Pozole a hot, spicy, salty pork simmered in a dry chile broth. Get side of avocado, smear it on tortillas, pull some pork shoulder from the bowl, roll and dip. Very good, especially on a cold day! The horchata is yummy too! I've heard great things about the Menudo. The bad: they don't make their own chips, and the salsa is watery. My husband got beef, chicken, cheese enchiladas. He said it was okay, bc it was different than regular tex-mex enchiladas--that usually have bold flavors. This place is a Dallas institution. It's also in the same location of another Dallas institution, Bill's Records. I went for lunch and first impressed by the fiery table salsa. They give you two with your chips, both are great, one is deliciously hot. I had the chili Relleno stuffed with chicken and was HUGE! My family and I come here at least twice a month. It's always great service and delicious food. I can't get enough of the Pozole. I do have to say I hate the cuquitas on northwest hwy. they have the worst service and the food is always rushed there. I drive the extra miles to this one on spring valley. Sometimes they have mariachi bands on Sundays. It's a small place so sometimes the wait for a table can be about 20 mins but it's definitely worth it. If this place was just a little more spacious it would be 5 stars. read more

This place was close to an errand we had to run and was in my bookmarks so we thought we'd give it a shot. Nice staff.... good food... and for my two cents.... pretty authentic food. I had the chicken fajitas which are served more traditionally on a plate instead of a sizzling skillet as is so common in Tex-Mex places. They were good but a little bland. Wife had the Guiso de Res which she said was also good but somewhat bland. All in all, I enjoyed it and would visit again if in the area but would not make a special trip there from our area. read more

May be our last time here. We like the overall taste of the food but today my wife was craving for chilaquiles and what a mess. First of all this is the first time I see chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and chorizo so we went for chorizo only. WRONG! There was an oil bed underneath the tortillas it was like good oil soup!!! So we decided to ask for plain chilaquiles I mean the way chilaquiles should be. Tortillas and salsa! That's it. So they bring the new plate... This time is only egg and no chorizo can't they understand only salsa!!!! My wife decided to eat them since we didn't want to wait once more for the food to come and they were OK... The bathrooms are in horrible condition I know this is not a fancy restaurant but at least I'd expect a clean bathroom. WRONG AGAIN!!! I love getting breakfast here! My favorite is always the Huevos Con Chorizo! I love getting that with an Agua De Horchata o Jamaica, both are very refreshing. The service here is always great and everyone is so nice. I love that they always serve chips and salsa. They also bring out warm flour tortillas with butter to spread on it and it's so delicious! It can get quite busy during the weekends so it can be quite hectic, so I recommend going during the week. read more

Ok so this was today im just a kid so basically we entered me and my family the waitress was great we got our chips and then this happened the sauce was just terrible with it then I ordered bacon and eggs with beans and the beans were just disgusting and sloppy then the "burritos" were not even those it was just a taco basically with just a little meat my lemonade was way too sour too much lemon and barely any sugar and I added some more and the lemon still was all I could taste and another thing was that my eggs were not fully cooked another thing that you might wanna do if your going to a new place please check the reviews that's all P.S I don't want to be rude or offensive keep in mind that this is my opinion sorry if I sound mean read more

Best Caldo de Res but they run out at the lunch hour especially if it is cold outside or raining. This is a favorite place to have Mexican fare including breakfast items and menudo on the weekends. The corn tortillas are incredible and again- don't pass up the caldo de res! read more

A Hispanic friend suggested this place. I was anticipating authentic Mexican food. The chips were stale, the salsa was weak no spice at all. The fajitas were small curly pieces of chicken and beef. Not sure why the poor ratings, possibly people are looking for tex-mex instead of real mexican food. We are almost always one of the only english speaking tables there, always a good sign. We always get good service and food at this location. My wife always gets the same thing; cheese enchilladas with red sauce, as for me I like to try different things, macacado con heuvos on this last trip were great! 3 1/2 stars. Hey jonesing some pazole so after reading some reviews all fingers were pointing to Cuquita's and I'm glad I did. Soup was a beautiful deep red color with a beautiful smoky aroma and the pork was soft as can be. I had to slow down after the first 2 minutes because I think I was inhaling it. Tortillas and the usual accompaniments (cabbage, onions, no radishes ) so was only 3 1/2, chips and salsa were not that good. While the chips were crispy the two different salsa were bland and had a bizarre after taste. I would go back to try their Caldo and maybe even their menudo. Hopefully they will improve salsas. read more

Usually we come here a lot, we came on Father's Day and were told 35 mins for our table, the people sitting there were done, paid and half the table even left, there was some women still chitchatting there, we asked if the table was almost ready, due to the previous table taking their sweet time, they said not yet but offered to separate our party of 10 separately, which was unfair just because of the other table taking too long. And on top of that because my sister was upset with them, they seemed to take way way longer while everyone else with big parties were getting their food. read more

I ordered to go since I only have a 30min. break but the pozole was really good. They give a generous portion of meat and hominy so I was pleased. My food was ready when I got there, 15min. and it was hot. They don't speak much english, at least those I interacted with today but it wasn't an issue. The only reason, It's not 5 stars is because they charged me 1.00 for cilantro and 1.00 for lemon, which isn't included with the pozole. They gave me a TON of lemons so I didn't mind paying but for cilantro?! Come on! LOL. When I try more food here, I will update my rating, but so far, so good. read more

Cuquitas has the best authentic Mexican food you'll find in the area. Don't waste your time trying another "Mexican" place before you go here. And it's so affordable! I grew up on the border with Mexico and so Dallas has distanced me from a lot of that awesome food. The chips and salsa are great, as are the drinks or "aguas frescas". If you like aguas frescas, I recommend the orchata. If you're going with a date, I recommend one drink, two straws because they serve them in a large glass and the drink is very filling. As for the food, I always order the chilaquiles or the quesadillas and my husband's favorite order would be the fajita tacos. But I have yet to find something I don't like here. Ask the waitress to bring you some extra flour tortillas--they are made in the restaurant and taste amazing. The portions are big, so you can plan on taking some leftovers. Did I mention how affordable this place is? I should go there more often! read more

I really enjoy the food and have been a lIng time customer! For lunch today I ordered the chili relleno plate. I was disappointed that the relleno had been sitting and flattened out. It wasn't hot and puffy like it has been in the past. The rice was perfect and the service was could not have been better. The beans were so liquidy I had to use a spoon! I used to go here all the time , as we were getting into our car our sever ran out to the security guy telling him we didn't pay for our meal when we had actually paid. she accused us of leaving without paying , when really the cashier messed up and we paid a different account , I did not get an apology for her mistake, will definitely be going to a different location! North Dallas Mexican staple, as it has been here for many many years. The food reminds me of the type of food served in Laredo. Mexican food from the Northern states, like Nuevo Leon. The tacos de babacoa are from beef cheek, which can or are very greasy. I prefer mutton barbacoa like in Mexico City and central states. You come for beef caldo, then show up at 11:30 am because it is sold out in the first hours. The horchata is fair, the chicken caldo is tasty and comes with gibblets. I have to agree with other reviews in that the salsa was very runny. The stars of the review are based on food alone. The service was very good our waitress was very attentive. They just lost a regular customer of 10 years. Our server lilia wasn't attentive, never smiled, and had an attitude. I payed the bill and left. Next I see our server run outside to an officer. The officer comes to me and says "they said you didn't pay." I go back in and turns out they charged me for the wrong ticket. Normally, this situation wouldn't bother me. It was a simple mistake no big deal. But the the server lilia and the officer both made such a big deal, they were so dramatic. As if I didn't pay, but that was not the case. Having grown up on the border in El Paso, and eating many meals in Mexico, I may be biased to a certain type of Mexican food. However I think Cuquitas has the best Mexican food in Dallas. I especially love the cheese enchiladas, with the proper white cheese instead of the way most Americans make them with yellow cheddar. Totally different flavor. And their green tomatillo sauce is divine! The finely ground white corn tortillas are to die for! Go check this place out, but don't be surprised if it's not like every other TexMex in town.
