I'm not sure how I've not known about Casa Navarro for the last 30 years. However,I do now! I was at the Valley House Gallery and the subject of " a good day for Mexican food" came up. Well of course that started a tit for tat on the best Tex Mex in the area. So,three of us traded our top go to list and for them, Casa Navarro kept coming up. So,as any wise native Texan would do when he's just been told by another native Texan and a California transplant that you gotta go, well...I went. Really glad I did because it's that kinda family run place with character,solid food, excellent prices and just enough age. This is a great find if you live on in the north dallas area. This restaurant is so much like the authentic Mexican restaurants found in the Maple street area where Mexican people go out to eat, if you know what I mean. It does not have the wow factor but that is not why you are there. The food is a 10 plus. Very traditional in appearance and taste. This is what you expect from a MEXICAN restaurant. I ordered the chicken and beef fajitas cooked perfectly. My wife had beef enchiladas and tamales. She loved it. I had a house margarita that was good. We found out about casa Navarro on a Reddit thread, and what a find! Service is very friendly and attentive. Every dish we've had has been amazing. My favorite is the enchilada, especially the Texana. Super flavorful and the beef was tender. Been here several times. The menu is huge! Chips and salsa are great, and I love how they give you a little cup of pinto beans when they bring the chips/salsa. I've previously gotten the enchilada plates, but yesterday I got the migas. I really liked it, but I forgot to take a photo. Maybe next time. Service is good, food comes out pretty quick. We've lived near this place for years and only recently have gone to it. And over and over again. It is the real deal! Superb! Creative dishes and ingenious takes on standards. I've had the burrito, tropical plate, enchiladas Texanas, and enchilada trio. All amazing. I rotate among these (ok the burrito is enormous and so keep that in mind.). Don't miss the queso flamedo as an app. Rare to see it in Texas. Glad they have it. The comp bean soup is a treat (sometimes too much cilantro which I don't like but that's only been a couple times.). Service is friendly and appropriate. Ambience is just what you expect from a neighborhood joint. It isn't fancy. It is genuine. In the past 3 months we've gone 7 times. It's now in our rotation and our top Tex Mex in our area. I'm giving casa Navarro one star not for the food, because their food is amazing. As a long time customer I'm talking about at least over 20 years as a patron. This visit was one I never expected. I live in Irving and from time to time I'm in the area. On July 24, 2026 Friday i was getting my nails done just one block from Navarro. I said to my self I should stop at Navarro and get my son his favorite item. It was around 3 or 3:30 I decided to stop by and I was excited it had been a minute since I had been there. As I walk in I notice two things one table 4 customer and the waitress was sitting eating a meal. As she saw me sit on the side of the table to the left of the entrance she acknowledges with a jester, letting me she sees me. She wraps up her meal and goes to the back, then she comes back to me and gives me a menu, I tell her right away it was to go she nodded and left. At that moment she had a chance to ask what I wanted to order but she did not And leaves. She then returns back and goes to tend the 4 customers who were finished with their meal. She left again to the kitchen then returns again. Mean time a customer came in and sat himself, she come from kitchen and goes to acknowledge him serves him water , and a cup of complimentary and chips. She leaves again and signal me that she's coming, finally she comes over to and heres where I cannot understand why?.. she than approaches me and says are you ready and I said I have been waiting she gives me an attitude. Get this she tells me if I wanted fast service I should do online, I say you want me to get my order online and she says I needed to order online. Then I was blown when she said to me ( these tables are for dine in customers only not for take out) WHAT just happened here. One table cashed out ready to leave one customer sitting waited on already and she has no time for a take out order. I was blown away in the last 20 years I have been coming to this restaurant was I ever turn down for ordering food to go. Who does that, what restaurant doesn't need more customers Who came a long way just for your food. I didn't say anything she took my order in a manner she really didn't want to. Then I said just cancel it and she turned away from and she muttered something and left. No expressing hello, no apologies, nothing. So now my day was ruined my son doesn't get his favorite food and I'm just nodding my head around what happened. I left a message on their site but no calls has been returned. Again it wasn't the food it was the waitress and service delivered. I think just because I'm 74 doesn't give her the right to lose business for the owner Blanca. If Blanca saw me she would know me. This restaurant is a mom-and-pop shop. The food was very affordable and delicious. There was a language barrier with our server, but he was also the only one server on the floor. He was still very nice and continued to smile. Even the man who helped bring the chips and salsa, beans, and bussed the tables was so nice as well. The tamales, beans, rice, and the chips and salsa were all good. The spinach enchilada was different, but I still liked it. Overall, I think for the quality of the food is definitely worth the price. The food here has gone down hill during my last few visits. Last time was the worst. First, up front, it was 2 dinners TOGO. Mexican food not greatest to travel but I live less than 2 blocks. Cheese enchiladas verde were a dark brown thinking the carne sauce was scraped off. Worst part was the inside. Cheese had formed a plank like hard candy bar. Bottom line, inedible. This was the style of tex-mex i have been looking for in Dallas for the last 2 years since moving back here! Cantu's was my favorite 40+ years ago!! Casa Navarro has great enchilada sauce. Crisp taco had generous meat in fried shell. Rice was real good. Beans were average but they provide a cup of flavorful bean soup with chips and good salsa as you arrive! I will return for sure!!! This place has become my go-to Mexican food place ever since a coworker suggested to me. I came here the first time and ordered Chicken Fajitas. They were nicely grilled over open flames and had a nice grilled taste to them. My second visit was Carne Tampiquena, which was a ribeye sautéed in wine, butter, onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers. As if that was not enough food, it came with cheese enchiladas beans, and guacamole salad. While it was ok, it was a little too much going on for my taste. We've heard good things about this restaurant and finally made it in with our friends last night. I'll keep it One, the food and margaritas, when you finally get them is really good. Two, the service sucks! It wasn't that busy when we walked in at 6:30. No one greeted us. We had to ask one of the many face-masked employees (still following inane COVID protocols or hiding their service inadequacies. A "server" finally approached our table. We ordered margaritas and the combo appetizer. My wife ordered her marg with just a little sweet and sour mix, but that was totally ignored just like the many times we'd asked for sliced jalapenos that were never delivered. Special orders are apparently "No comprendo!". After 10 minutes of nothing, another masked "server" stopped by to see if we wanted to order any drinks or food. It was a good thing we were enjoying the company of each other to fill in the long periods of nothing from the bar or kitchen. When it finally came, it was chips and salsa and a cup of their bean soup. The soup and salsa was delicious and the margs were quite tasty. The food was very good and unpretentious just like we like our Tex-Mex places. But we also like decent service, which this place needs some management that can train and make service as good as it's food. I'll be back to see if it was just a bad server or if all the servers are as untrained as ours was. read more
