I stayed at the attached hotel for work purposes and didn't get to venture out much. Glad I stopped in to the in-house Current Kitchen. Ate dinner 3 nights in a row here. Food was delish. Sat out on the patio and enjoyed the view and sunset with dinner and drinks. The food/bev manager and the bartender were super helpful, hospitable; and provided excellent customer service. The servers seem somewhat new/inexperienced. Food is a little pricey ($23) for a burger, but I got my money's worth with portion size. This place needs to have new ownership, the current one is faking miserably. -we saw two families get up and leave because it took more then 20 minutes to place a food order. -the food is at best mediocre, if I am starving to death that's where I'd eat. Please owners read this review and make changes, hire more staff, change your cooks in the kitchen and you have a chance of making it. Very disappointed since I used to like this hotel and this restaurant! ALL THE 5 stars were problem from their staff and friends, I don't know how someone can give this place a 5 stars! 8/27 and 8/28/23 The Current Kitchen was a pleasant surprise after a couple weeks of stops at campsites and hotels across Northwest national and state parks. The food, drinks and especially the staff were AMAZING! Jena, bartender, waited on us because we sat at the bar as they were closing when we arrived. She was funny, efficient, pleasant and gave us great recommendations and service. The food, drinks, service and staff brought us back again the next night when we again had the pleasure of being served by Jena at the bar. Unfortunately, there was a table of very rude customers near us spouting mean things at Jena when she ran over to check on them. We asked what that was all about as she came back without the beaming smile we first encountered. Apparently these assholes had the audacity to berate her loudly for paying more attention to her customers at the bar (her job). We asked why Jena was waiting tables anyway (both of us having been servers) only to discover the server didn't show up tonight and Jena was covering the entire restaurant/bar. So if you read reviews like I do and rely on them to make decisions, I'd suggest you rely on this one as I don't make many. The food was amazing. The drinks were amazing. The staff...PHENOMENAL. Especially if you've ever been a server and dealt with the random assholes that don't treat servers with the respect they deserve. read more

Great views of the river and fabulous food, how do you go wrong? On top of that current kitchen offers a 20% local discount. We had forgotten about this jewel right in our backyard, if you haven't been there in a while you definitely should go back and check it out! They also just opened their little sandwich shack down by the marina that's right on the water which is also a great spot. I believe they said it's open noon to 7:00 either Thursday Friday Saturday or Friday Saturday Sunday. My husband's steak was an excellent and my trout was superb including our sides and the side salads were absolutely delicious! What a beautiful evening dinner! My husband and I decided on an early dinner by the river. We were so completely impressed. Our server, Echo, was delightful and entertaining, while being knowledgeable about the entrées. My husband had the waygu steak which was rested to perfection. I had the Mickey D's mac with chicken. I took my little grandson Ayden John to dinner here. We sat on the patio overlooking the river and sunset!! We both had the pan fried trout I had their famous Mac n cheese Auden had the garlic smashed. We both were in heaven!!! We had a tad bit of a wait so the Manger. (a lovely bubbly blonde lady) came out apologizing over n over. We didn't care the ambiance was so over the top we weren't in a big hurry. She brought our food out n was very attentive to us! We visited tonight and were pleasantly surprised how it's turned around from our past years visits. NOW there is a great creative Chef, worthy of the venue,with a menu that is small but mighty. Some good sounding Craft cocktail too! The view of the river and marina is spectacular and so was the food! Living nearby and wanting this restaurant to succeed but always being disappointed in the past, makes me now want to "scream from the rooftop" that this restaurant, inside the Templins/Red Lion on the River in Post Falls, is finally the gem it should be. We really wanted to like this place. But we just couldn't. Six of us went expecting to have a great dinner before going to a play in CdA. We made reservations and then we found out the waitress didn't even know anyone would do that. We asked if there was a preference where we sat she said anywhere. She brought us each three pages of drinks we could order from the bar and one menu page. We ordered and waited way to long. We were about ready to leave when she brought our mediocre food. After a 20 minute wait, we sat in the bar and had a cocktail. Mashed potato were cool, same with gravy,table spoon of dressing, green beans & bacon in some sort of spicy red sauce, a few end pieces of Turkey, Desert was small piece of carrot cake or apple pie which was quite small with a spoon full of Apple pie filling topped with Vanilla ice cream. Carrot Cake was dry. The Turkey Dinner was $36 & Prime rib was $46. Tempin's on the River has one of the best locations in Post Falls with a view of the river. There were 3 of us, after the tip $160.xx was the total. We would like the restaurant to succeed, but they need to take a hard look before going foreword. We have never been so disappointed in a dinner. They were short staffed. From the time we arrived at 3pm and left at 6pm, say an hour for drinks & dinner, 2 hours of waiting is unacceptable. Came here for a girl's night on restaurant week. It was super confusing to find since it's in the Red Lion hotel, and this restaurant used to be Mallards Restaurant until they renovated. The menu sounded yummy and since it was on the water we were down for some nice views. We got there and the place was empty.. but yet took a while for us to get seated. It's like there was only one server for the restaurant area playing host and server, which.. last day of restaurant week? Concerning much?!? We got seated and ordered some wine, from their limited wine menu. Ordered our first course which was mediocre. The fried biscuits and gravy was far from biscuits and gravy and had a jam which totally made it contrast in flavor and tasted like a dessert. The duck spring rolls were so salty and kinda cold. The second course I ordered the MiMi brisket burger which was pretty good, the other dish was the Bone in Mac which was crazy they even served it to us. The "bacon" was so charred and burned to a crisp it was inedible. Gross! The fried Mac and greens were decent but we sent it back and got another burger instead. The dessert.... YUCK! These chocolate donuts were just HORRENDOUS! Who puts apple, chocolate, caramel, and curry... all together?!?!? Being brave and thinking outside the box I went for it.. and it was the worst decision ever. The server even said it's the least popular thing on the menu. Let me ask you, then why put the least popular thing on the special?!?!? So sad this place was cute but the food was not worth it. I almost wanted my money back, which it takes a lot to get me to that point. I applaud the head chefs ideas and creativity, but sometimes it's too outside the box and this was just not it for me. So nice to sit and look at the river while dining. I was happy to see wines from other countries on the menu instead of the typical CA and WA wines. The menu was limited but not disappointing. We started with the general tso's cauliflower which was amazing. I had the roasted spaghetti squash and it was very good. I also had the butternut squash soup, awesome! Had the food been awful I would have given 1 star. We came in for brunch , of the workers only the waitress was wearing a mask, I asked the hostess about this and she said, "I can put mine on if you want" ...after she sat us she made a comment about having asthma. We had a Groupon that was purchased before the Covid-19 mess and were running out of time to use it so we planned to get take-out. First, there was no menu available to browse and we were originally told that we could call up to check the menu the day we were planning to order. They also originally told us that we could get take-out as we have underlying medical conditions and need to avoid any possible exposure. When I called, the head chef refused to allow us to use the Groupon for take-out even though we explained our circumstances. She demanded that we dine in even though that would put us at risk medically. We planned and offered to tip as we normally would, but she still refused. Why would she put us at risk like that?! What is the problem with using a Groupon to take food to go?! Ridiculous and unbelievable, it ruined our plans for the evening!! read more

My family and I stayed at the red lion hotel and decided to grab a bite here for dinner. I have never been so pleasantly surprised. Off season during Covid had only a few other parties dining here so I wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered the local trout dish and the stuffed chicken dish and wow! Such fresh, delicious, food not at all lacking in flavor or balance! (The wild black rice was particularly scrumptious, not an easy rice to made so creamy.) They were even able to be very accommodating and when I mentioned my gluten free diet they said almost every dish on the menu could be made gluten free! The chef even came out to check in with us during our meal and offered my daughter (who was being her typical, picky toddler self) an ice cream on the house if she ate her portion of food. Excellent service and I will make it a point to come here during my next trip through the panhandle. read more
