We arrived 30 minutes early for Thanksgiving dinner and checked in with the hostess saying "sorry but we're really hungry". She was quite rude and snapped back with " well you're just gonna have to wait because we are fully booked" even though there were several empty tables. We went to the lounge where we told our server,Becky, that we had to wait for our reservation. She said "we have a table right here, same menu and no waiting" so we did, spent close to $400 for four only to come home and see a $100 cancellation fee on our card. The food was good but very sparse for a $40 Thanksgiving dinner. Good portion of turkey but just a smear of sweet potato, a teaspoon of cranberry sauce and small serving of stuffing. Becky's service was excellent but the hostess needs a few lessons in customer service. Rather than her rude approach she could have taken a different approach and said, "Have a seat in the lounge and we'll see what we can do". We felt she cancelled the reservation and applied the charge deliberately as she knew we were there. What a Happy Thanksgiving at Currents! What a classic location! The deschutes river flows by just outside the glass wall, very beautiful there is a patio as well . It was too cold, but o can see it would be fantastic in warmer weather. I was one of the first customers of the morning. And they were just getting underway. My omelette was very good, the potatoes were a great concept . They were smashed baby reds. Mine were kinda burnt but there were a few that were pretty good. I had to try to copy them when I got home. Mine turned out pretty good. The bacon was pretty overdone as well. The service was pretty good, like I said, being there early . The kitchen was just getting started, so understandable. This use to be the place to go for New Years. I checked it out on line today and it was a bit confusing. On the website they said they'd have a DJ in one of the ballroom. Appears that isn't happening or the employee wasn't informed. Wanted to make reservations for New Years. I called and was told that they are serving dinner at the convention center $169.00 PER PERSON! What you get for that includes entry free, live band, voucher for a drink, dinner and a glass of champagne at midnight. I asked what they would be serving and was told that the "executive chef" is still working on the menu. I really don't care what they are serving at that price. Won't be attending. Lately, the service has been slow and we have decided we no longer need to patronize this establishment. Also, they are doing turkey dinner for Thanksgiving at $79 per person. That's very expensive and you need to buy tickets online and they charge a fee even for that. read more

Hubby had tomato bisque and calamari (two dipping sauces; both wonderful!); I had the Serrano ham and Manchego croquettes and the bruschetta (brie, pear and an excellent balsamic). Horrible service. Not once did the waitress come to ask if our food was ok or to refill our drinks and it wasn't even busy at the time. I ordered the Caesar salad which had too much dressing and the lettuce wasn't crisp. My husband ordered the trout which was quite good. While the service was great and it was nice eating outdoors by the river, the food was meh (at best) considering what they were charging. They were also out of the beer we requested and ran out of the dessert, etc. We're from the bay area so were used to good food at this price point and I suspect there are better options to choose from in Bend ... just not at this hotel. read more

I actually yelped this place last night under RIVERHOUSE. Which is half right because this restaurant is part of the hotel, RIVERHOUSE. But the actual restaurant, CURRENTS is what I meant to review. Tim was one of the best servers we'd ever had. (That was last night) & the service & the food was so amazing that we opted to come here for breakfast before the memorial service. And Michael or "Mike" was our server this morning and it only got better! Once again I've got to say that short of last night, I've never experienced such an amazing server. I had lox & bagels that were perfect. And some of the better salmon I've had. Twice in a row this was a 5 star experience. I didn't read the other reviews but I can't imagine what the problem could have possibly been to not have been a 5 star experience. read more

I don't usually eat at hotel restaurants, but my wife and I were visiting Bend during the Fall Festival, and wanted to avoid the crowds. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service. We shared a plate of Organic Beet Salad with baby arugula, goat cheese, hazelnut and balsamic dressing as an appetizer. My wife got the Filet Mignon, with baby carrots, lacinato kale, mashed potatoes and pinot shallot sauce. I ordered the Leg of Venison, wrapped in bacon, with whole grain mustard spätzle, garnet yam puree and brandied cherry sauce. The restaurant has a pretty good wine list, and we enjoyed a Mount Veeder Cabernet with our meal. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star rating is that we had wanted to sit outside next to the river, but they didn't have enough propane tanks - or, at least, not enough tanks with propane in them - for all their outdoor heaters, and it was too cold to eat outside without a heater. When we went indoors, we were sitting in a booth above a lounge area with a rather boisterous party, and early in the meal, the door to the patio was not always being closed by patrons or wait staff going in or out, so we'd occasionally get a blast of cold air. Eventually the servers started making sure the door was always closed, and the party below us mellowed out a bit, so overall it was a very good dining experience .. just not a great one. read more

Went twice in one week for their Happy Hour as it's wonderful! There were 2 of us the first time and 4 of us the second time. For a starter both times we had warm mixed olives. I never want olives any other way now (except maybe in a martini ;). They were so good, and the servings were huge! The first time i had the crispy chicken sandwich and my friend had the burger, both were very good. Second time, one friend had the grilled grape and olive bruschetta, another had the pork belly mac and cheese and the other had the burger. I had the proscuitto and fig flat bread. Everyone was very happy with their meals, the portions were large and the service was excellent! Would highly recommend. Happy hour goes from 4-6pm every night. Regular menu looked great as well but my budget only allows for happy hours. read more

BREAKFAST DINING ONLY: During our stay at the Riverhouse lodge, they comped our breakfast due to some issues we had with our stay. Anna, Myla, Brianna, and Jackie were our servers. I must say the breakfast menu is amazing. With so many options. My fav was the Brisket Hash with house hasbrowns on the side with extra spinach. The service was impeccable and all of the servers were attentive to our every request. The restaurant sits right by the river creating a peaceful experience. Dirty, dirty, dirty. My teapot was so oily and dusty. Gross! Use real eggs in your omelettes. They used that fake liquid crap. The price you are charging for your food, use fresh eggs. When we arrived they sat us inside and when we inquired about the patio reservation they said they didn't have any available seating on the patio at this time despite us making the reservation the day prior. Horrible service. Hostess did not know the difference between sun and shade. Asked to sit in shade outside. We were sat in the direct sun ( we did have reservations, there was a shade table available that was given to a couple 5 min later). It was almost 90 degrees. All she could say was "we will have someone move the umbrella ". Well since there are bushes and flowers the umbrella could not be moved. Great greeting by host, seated us right away, super friendly/welcoming , he and our server were really great, and she seemed pretty busy, but efficient and friendly as well. Wife's burger outstanding, my hummus plate was really good, delicious, but needed more hummus. The river view is outstanding, a gentlemen fly fishing while we ate, beautiful birds, a lizard ran by great natural landscaping. Also ordered the rib eye, which for $55 we were expecting a bit more than 'ok'. This restaurant is attached to the Riverhouse at the Deschutes River. The setting of the restaurant is very nice, with good views of the Deschutes River that runs alongside the restaurant and through the hotel property. The seating of the restaurant is both indoors and outdoors. During the day, the outdoor seating is preferable; however, as night falls, it can get quite chilly in Bend, and the restaurant does not have heaters for their guests to dine outdoors without freezing themselves. During this time of COVID-19, outside dining is preferred, but if you're not providing heat lamps, then bundle up and prepare to freeze. I started off with one of their signature cocktails, which was a local gin with blue cheese stuffed olives. When my drink arrived, I noticed that it had only pimento olives. I asked the waiter to ask the bartender why they made the switch, especially when their signature cocktail menu description stated that it came with blue cheese stuffed olives. The excuse was that they forgot to order it, and instead of apologizing, just walked away. The next dish was the wedge salad. I noticed, that during COVID, condiments left on a table is going to be rare. However, I do expect that when you order a salad, they ask you if you'd like to have some fresh ground pepper. I had to flag down the waiter to even make the request. At most restaurants, this is understood, but maybe not in Bend. The salad was good, but the salad chef needs to pay attention to the presentation and remove the tough and bitter lettuce core. We had the tuna nicoise. The tuna was prepared quite well, with a nice exterior sear and pink center. However, they mush have been a run on olives since the salad did not have any, even though the menu's number one ingredient for this salad stated that it came with olives. The third item we had was the Chorizo Bolognese, made with homemade chorizo sausage. This item was good; however, a bit salty and lacking of chorizo flavor. It tasted like a pork bolognese that was drenched in oil. The bucatini that accompanied the bolognese was perfectly cooked; however, most chefs would revive the thyme stems before serving. Our dessert was the creme brûlée. This was the best dish of the night. It was soft and creamy. The only drawback was that the center was cold. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale, it truly missed the mark. read more

This place has transformed itself, finally. New, fresh, modern make-over has now made a great location for the hotel and convention center guests to enjoy over-priced cocktails and food. Can't really say it is a resort rather an iconic hotel on the Deschutes river in Bend away from the other fancy options downtown. The happy hour menu is okay but plan on the portions to be micro small. We ordered a flatbread and it was embarrassing small so if you're going to spend $11-$16 on a flatbread expect to be stunned when it arrives. It was pretty good but the size of a slice of bread. Unfortunately nothing really healthy on the happy hour menu but hopefully they change it up at some point. The dinner menu was well thought out and whomever did the menu I'd say nailed it perfect for the location, a hotel with mostly captive guests. Expensive, yes, but it is a hotel and what else would you expect? We ordered the roasted chicken and it was pretty good but no sides as everything is an add-on to the entree menu selections. Waitstaff was great as was the reception when you enter the facility with the bellman, they've done an excellent job dealing with the customer experience. When it is warm enjoy the outdoor seating on the river for drinks or dinner, it is a beautiful location. Try this place and don't complain as it is what it is, a nice hotel with a great bar and restaurant on the river ... we'll go back. read more

Pre Covid I loved this place. Now I recall why I haven't been for a year. There was a group of 8 of us. No one throughly enjoyed their meal. With the recommendation from the waitress, and ordered the bbq shrimp. I took two bites, and that was it. She ignored the full plate of food left, never even asked me if I wanted a box (I wouldn't have taken it anyway). The serving size was large, but it was soaked w a commercial bbq sauce. Such a disappointing meal. My husband and I took some out of town guest here for dinner tonight. What a mistake!! We order the most expensive things on the menu which were the ribeye and the filet mignon. The meat was extremely tough, bland and fatty. The vegetables were over cooked and mushy. We also ordered the fondue steak and bread appetizer and it was tasteless and the meat was rubbery. We were embarrassed to say the least. We spent over $300 for 4 people and that did not include any drinks besides iced tea. So very overpriced. The atmosphere is nice and sitting outside by the river is beautiful but the food is just really bad. The service was slow but the staff was kind. read more

We were excited to try this restaurant since we were staying at the Riverhouse. We ordered two ceased salads, fried turkey legs, and the calamari. As you can tell from the photos, the calamari was very skimpy and the turkey legs were overcooked and dry. The Caesar salad looked nice but the dressing needed a little more flavor, maybe some more Worcestershire and mustard? It was all right, though a little inconsistent and really expensive. Combined with the hotel, it's like they figured that just charging a ton would automatically make it upscale. The difference with this and the hotel is this was a reasonably decent value. We ate there twice and you should expect an $80+ check for two people if you drink only water. Portions are large, so don't expect to be served little tiny servings that would fit on an Ike dollar. There was one dish that tasted so different the second time (we loved it the first time, less so the second: the steak chunk fondue) we theorized that they have a flavor chef and a non-flavor chef. Definitely consider the calamari. The wedge salad was good. Servers were great, though there really isn't a solution to the glare off the lower dining area tables during sunny evenings. read more
