With so many options in SEVA and NENC, I skip this one. While perfectly servicable, nothing stood out. I've had way better elsewhere.

This a stop we make almost every trip to the obx. Ample parking with a huge outdoor pavilion with seating- covered and uncovered. They allow dogs here and there's lots of grassy areas. I get the regular pork bbq sandwich. It's plenty for me but they offer a jumbo if you're really hungry. The bbq is chopped and Carolina style (no sauce). They have plenty of sauce options if you want to add. Their fried okra is delicious and piping hot every time we order - love that it's freshly fried. Order to-go or take some of their ready to go side selections. Soda fountain, a few beers and bottled drink options. read more

We always stop at Currituck BBQ either to or from obx. Most recently, my wife and I both got the pork BBQ platters. I even got an extra side so I could get the sweet potato casserole - which was amazing. We usually love to stop here for the outside seating and area for our dog to stretch her legs. This time we visited in the off season and sat inside. The restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. Food is plated to order so the wait depends on how busy it is but it's always worth the wait. Stopped in here on the way to the Outer Banks and picked up some pork bbq, fries, hush puppies and buns for dinner. They have a refrigerator case with some bbq and sides prepared to go. Super friendly cashier. There were several people eating in the restaurant (about 3pm) which is always a good sign. Several booths available inside. Would definitely stop here again on our way to/from the beach. Made for a perfect and easy dinner! And for our family of six, the prices are great! read more

They once had the best ribs. Fall off the bone ribs. The last time, not so much. That was about a month ago. Today, they were just bad. Tough. Not much meat. Most of it went in the trash. Bbq is one of my favorite foods to eat. The hubs and I were completing a work errand in the late morning close to lunchtime. We haven't ventured out to Elizabeth City before...so Yelp to the rescue. Thankfully, the restaurant was in our vicinity, and it was opening in 5 minutes. They have a nice size able parking lot. Three employees greeted us upon entry. Two were in training and one was overseeing the orders at the register. I eagerly looked at the menu by the wall. It's hard to just order one item, so let's not do that lol. I opted for the two meat plate of chopped brisket, pulled pork with a side of coleslaw, and Mac and cheese. The plates come with two round hush puppies nicely fried. The hubs ordered the pulled pork big sandwich. There is an option of big and bigger that is noticeably large. The size for big is 6oz and bigger looks like 9oz. I could be wrong, but it will fill you up whichever one you choose. I would've just gotten the bigger, and eaten the leftovers on the car ride home. Sweet tea, banana pudding, and blueberry bread pudding was also ordered to end our meal. We paid, and chose a booth to wait for our food. It's North Carolina so bbq is vinegar based when it is being smoked, so don't go asking for hot sauce or spicy bbq. The food was prepared in a timely manner. And the employees were very sweet and kind. Pulled pork and brisket was smokey, meaty and juicy. The coleslaw was fresh, crunchy, with a hint of sweetness. It was not drowned in mayonnaise Yeaa lol. Mac and cheese was good, but wished it was creamier. The banana pudding was the winner for the hubs. I was only able to have 4 spoonfuls before he finished it off. The banana pudding was chilled, fresh sliced bananas with vanilla wafers on the bottom. The custard was light, and whipped which I appreciated. I've had some bad ones in other locations lol. The blueberry bread pudding was very tasty also. I highly recommend the classic banana pudding which is a staple in most households after dinner in the south. This is an overall great casual spot to grab North Carolina style barbecue on your way to or from the Outer Banks. We've been coming here at least once a year for the past few years and each time had a great experience. This spot tends to be very popular and hence busy, so be ready to spend at least a few minutes in line. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, with lots of picnic tables (both covered and uncovered). There are lots of bbq options to choose from (beef, chicken, and pork), including sandwiches and platters, where you can combine different meat selections (up to 3, I think), with your choice of 2 sides. That said, it looks like their menu selections have shrunk compared to the last time we were here, which was pre-pandemic. For instance, if I'm not mistaken, you can only get pulled brisket now (which is not my favorite way of having brisket), whereas in the past you could get sliced meat, including burnt ends. Perhaps this was only the case today, but I would call them to clarify their current offerings. In terms of flavor, the meat itself is good and you can add your own sauces to take it up a notch. Overall, this is a solid choice to have a delicious meal in the area and I'd highly recommend you check it out. read more

October 2022: what an institution! Having been coming to the outer banks for over 20 years I feel I have been gypped. I had never stopped here before this year and now it will be our tradition! The service was as quick as it could be expected to be and the food was delicious we ordered both a barbecue platter and sandwich. Highly recommend the pulled brisket but you can't go wrong with anything here. Highlight of the meal for me was the banana cream pudding. We went here on a Friday in May for lunch. We arrived at 10:55 and people were already lined up outside to get in at opening time. The line moved quickly. Service was phenomenal. We always stop here to & from the beach. The BBQ is true NC style & so good. It's a BBQ joint, so forget the ambience. It's all about the food. There is a large outdoor pavilion in addition to indoor seating. If you have a dog with you, there are at least 2 acres of grounds to walk them, along with sanitary pick up supplies. read more

We stopped by for lunch on our way home from our family week at the beach for a quick bite. The place was busy but the line moved quickly and the kitchen was fast with the food. There was one particular lady that was fantastic! She came from the kitchen and helped out the counter folks. She took care of business. I was so impressed by her that I asked to speak with her as we were preparing to leave. I told her that she was an amazing person and that if there was any hint of an apocalypse or a national disaster I was going to come and find her so I would know that I'd be safe. I was not expecting much when I headed to the Currituck BBQ Company. Should a restaurant need to advertise on billboards? And when there really isn't much competition along the way from the Outer Banks to Norfolk, they don't have to be good. But I pulled in to the parking lot hungry and saw two State Police patrol cars parked and knew I'd do well. Cops know food. Simple enough to order at the counter (where they have a Square terminal) and grab your plasticware to wait until your number is called. And it was called a few minutes later. Pulled pork sandwich on a small bun and I chose potato salad and mac & cheese. The sandwich was excellent. Tasty pork that was moist and didn't need any of their three table sauces on it (or Texas Pete) but I put a little bit on just to see. The cole slaw on the sandwich probably helped and the sauce definitely added some zing to it. Potato salad was rather firm cubed potatoes. Delicious and tangy. Mac & cheese was more noodle than cheese and ever-so-slightly crisped. Very tasty and firm with a nice sharp cheesy flavor. Good stuff that way exceeded my expectations. Now that I'm (a little) older than I was going here for $2 Tuesdays in high school, I still love this little place so much. To be honest, their pork BBQ isn't the best I've ever had. It's tasty, but a little on the "mushy" side compared to thicker pulled pork. Regardless, the meal itself is just what I crave when I'm in the mood for BBQ. Today I got the mac & cheese and fries, both satisfying. The burnt ends (which my dad bought to-go for $10) are to die for. It's heavy to eat a lot at once, but if you do what he did they're perfect to pick on over a couple/few days. On this particular visit, the woman working was SO nice. Such a positive attitude which really made the atmosphere of the visit better overall. They had football on TV which was kind of neat. While I had passed this place previous years on my way to OBX, last year we stopped and wondered why we didn't stop those precious years. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and they even remodelled since last year. While this is a "fast food" kind of place, everything is made from scratch with southern love. The place is always clean and everyone there truly knows what southern hospitality is. This time I ordered the beef brisket sandwich with mac & cheese and sweet potato casserole. Last time I tried the fried okra and it was really good. They serve sweet tea but for us northerners it's way too sweet! But if you are into that you probably will enjoy it. They do catering and take out. It's the perfect stop to get out and stretch your legs, go to the bathroom and get a decent meal when you are traveling. Holy Mother Of God...I don't know what they do or how they do it but it was hands down the best BBQ either one of us have had! He's lucky I didn't knock him out and steal his food because it was that good...as in "slap your grandma silly" good! The burnt ends were so moist with the perfect amount of burnt. The sweet potato casserole was just as ridiculous and the cole slaw was great. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich platter topped with slaw and the Mac & cheese and potato salad. The pulled pork was awesome on its own without sauce but paired with the sweet Carolina sauce, it was off the charts! The Mac and cheese and potato salad was pure down home cooking. I honestly don't understand why this place is so popular. I went with a group of friends and we got a family meal with pulled pork, pulled beef brisket (yes it's pulled and not good at all), and ribs. Everything tasted below average and there was nothing special about any of it, in fact I could have had a cheaper and better tasting meal if I had microwaved premade foods from the grocery store. The pulled pork and beef were dry and bland, the ribs were not tender and cooked well, and the sides were nothing to write home about. The only good thing we had were the fries The worst part was how rude the service was. They forgot to give us some food items and plates and when we informed them and asked for them they were very rude about the situation and at the end told us, "we've already done so much for you is there anything else you are going to trouble us with?"
