Husband has been craving chicken tikka masala forever. Even though we live near all the Indian restaurants, none of them came up to snuff. After a day at LEGOLAND, he really insisted and searched without looking on Yelp. The first Indian restaurant we walked in was 4 miles away and had the worst smell. We walked straight out. Then I remembered seeing this place on my Instagram feed and found out it was only 4 more miles away. So off we go. This time we were pleasantly surprised. This place is modern clean and smells sooo good. We ordered the chicken tikka masala of course plus butter chicken and shahi paneer with naan. Let me tell you. We've worked in Indian restaurants for years. We eaten at many Indian restaurants. This place is it! I usually don't like chicken tikka masala but this one was fabulous. We got a 5 spice level and that was hot and we can usually handle spice but damn. Still good but damn. The butter chicken and shahi paneer was my favorite. Super delicious! I also got the mango lassi which was great too tasted like a mango mousse but drink form. However, the only thing negative I would say is the price of the lassi. $5 is a bit much for mango and yogurt. But other than that this is the place I wouldn't mind driving all the way up for Indian. Delicious, spicy Indian food. My mum and I got medium heat chicken tikka masala, baingan ka bharta, and dal makhani with garlic naan to go. The to go containers were FILLED to the brim. We are pretty picky about our curry and appreciates Curry Craft because it is always delicious /stable. Some places taste good one day and not another so stability is important to us. Two thing I wish I could change was the ambience of the restaurant which is pretty drab to want to dine there. So we always take out and unfortunately the containers are plastic so I worry about it melting into the curry by the time we consume it. This is not specific to curry craft but I wish there was an alternative. Other than that, I would recommend this place! read more

i remembered driving by this place a couple months ago (before they even opened) on my way to the banh mi place across the street. when i saw the amazing photos YELP friend EMMA J (CARLSBAD) posted, i penciled CURRY CRAFT in for the regular, friday lunch with my oldest son (yes, i know superlatives require a comparison of three OR more but i have four). EMMA J mentioned the chef here was from MUMBAI (formerly BOMBAY), on INDIA's western coast (and the country's largest city) so i had a headstart boning up on the local cuisine (don't you just love the internet??) plus drafting off what she ordered. after laboring over which of the irresistible sounding and (thanks to EMMA J's photos) looking chats (street food appetizers) we should order, we settled the SEV PURI a dish of eight, airy, flour-chip cups topped with mashed potatoes, diced red onions, a threesome of chutneys (garlic, tamarind and chili) and cooling yogurt that are sprinkled with cilantro leaves and sev (crunchy, super-skinny, fried, chickpea-paste noodles. WOWZA !!! these guys are a crispy, light, balanced flavor explosion in every bite. try to eat them whole (a spoon helps) and quickly before they get soggy. but the VEGETABLE SAMOSAs ("turnovers" stuffed with potatoes and peas) were underwhelming. the "pastry" was more bisquick-like than flakey so though not at all greasy, they were clunky with a dense, crumbly mouth feel. i'm a sucker for all things goat (you gotta bite down gently and separate the meat and bones with your tongue) but my GOAT CURRY and MICHAEL's LAMB KORMA (both ordered 8) were NOT particularly spicy. i'm afraid our pasty, white skin betrayed us again -- enough of the racial profiling ... CURRY CRAFT's lunch specials (a small bowl of curry, salad, veggies, raita and basmati rice) are certainly a great value but i think next time we'll go "street-style" and share four or five chaats instead. read more

The aroma of the spices were apparent from the parking lot! I was impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant, definitely a remodel from the previous place. Had a calm vibe with Indian music. The food was pretty good but this place does not take their spiciness lightly! I got the lunch special with chicken vindaloo and it was clearing up my sinuses and making my eyes water. Delicious but spicy spicy! I got my order with a naan which was my favorite part of the meal. My boyfriend and I also shared a chicken soup as a mini appetizer. It was a pretty small bowl and looked bland but was packed with flavor. The waiters were attentive and food came out timely. The only drawback was that I did not have enough rice. And it was all a bit on the top flavorful side. I'll be back and I'll definitely be more prepared next time around. read more

Very rude customer service. I gave the person at the register more money than what the food costed and I selected pay on the screen, the way he looked at me so pissed that I selected the wrong amount was insane. I could have given him the exact same amount, I had change in my purse. I even said I can pay by card. It's a genuine mistake and I don't know why he had to show me that attitude. I've probably been spoiled by good Indian food elsewhere, but the food here was not spicy at all in terms of flavor OR hotness. I was actually surprised at how flavorless our saag paneer and shrimp vindaloo were, and at how the garlic naan barely tasted of garlic. The tandoori chicken wasn't bad but this was the first time I've ever seen it served without lemon. Maybe you'd come here for a change in your lunch routine, but if you want authentic and tasty Indian cuisine this ain't it. read more

Husband had seen this place many times while driving by on our way to the beach. He was very excited to finally try it and I graciously went along because we both enjoy good curry. Sadly, most of the dishes on the buffet were either meh or just too darn spicy to eat. The chicken tikka masala was not buttery at all and was very spicy probably so you won't have a second helping. What a find!! Our family LOVES Indian cuisine and not only does this restaurant serve up delicious food! their BUFFET is the best value around!! We showed up last night, on a Monday, and were pleasantly surprised to learn that for the rest of the month, they are extending their Dinner Buffet, typically Fri, Sat and Sun to include Mondays also. If you want good Indian food in North County, you're in luck! Pros: - The chicken tikka masala is just how I like it - perfect balance of spices, tomato and creaminess. - Lamb korma is delicious. It is nutty and flavorful and the meat was super tender. - Pakora was crispy and a perfect start to the meal. - Mango lassi was all that it should be. - Garlic naan - crispy, chewy and garlicky! - The service (the manager Gary) was fantastic. The water glasses were filled multiple times. Everything came out quick and hot and he even threw in something extra for our 4 year old which was a lovely touch! This is our favorite Indian spot in the San Marcos area, and we've tried them all. They have an extensive menu, attentive servers, and the restaurant itself is bright, modern, and very clean. We've been here at least five times, tried many different menu items, everything has been consistently good. I like that nothing is oily or greasy, even the appetizers which have been deep fried. (I think my stomach really appreciates that too) They also take care with the food presentation to make it look as good as it tastes. My favorite is the chicken tikka masala - no mystery meat or chicken thighs - creamy spicy sauce with prime cuts of chicken breast. They serve all of the standard Indian dishes, but they also have some which we haven't seen at other restaurants. Look forward to trying all of them read more

Seriously yummy Indian food. I LOVE Indian food and this is the best I've had in a looong time. We went here for lunch to go and we got enough for four people: saag paneer, dal, chicken masala, butter chicken, vegetable samosas and lamb vindalo. It comes with plenty of rice and we tried the onion and garlic naan bread. All the dishes had different flavors and textures. The sauces were creamy and flavorful ( not just spice to cover it up.) My favorite is the chicken tika masala. But honestly each dish we tried was awesome. I'm so glad we tried this place today and we are for sure coming back! read more

I was so excited when I saw this place open. As soon as I saw it had a coupon as well I was extra excited. I came in on a Friday right after lunch hour and ordered two entrees in a child entree. I was waited on as if I was at a fine dining restaurant, was given water, and was treated with great respect. The food was amazing. It hit the spot!!! The child's chicken masala was too spicy for her so I took that to go and decided to get her something else. I ordered vegetable korma, and paneer something. Bomb! As soon as I showed them the bogo free coupon they said it was unacceptable and that it was only for dinner portions. No where on the coupon says lunch, dinner, brunch. (Yes I ordered 2 drinks). I asked 3 times to speak to a manager and he said no one was available. I am not a happy camper that I had to pay full price with the bogo coupon. He did give me $2 off, but that still doesn't compare to the bogo. Very disappointing and misleading. The food was excellent. Glad there is another Indian restaurant in San Marcos (although wouldn't take anything away from Indian Princess and Curry & More since I like those as well). I was actually assuming this was going to be a walk-up to the counter type Indian and was a little disappointed that we had to sit down and order. Would be great to have a more of a "fast food" type Indian place in town for quick lunches and take out. I love Indian food and perhaps not a great critic because I always get the same thing (Vegetable Samosas, Saag Paneer, and Chicken Tikka Masala) and always very pleased so this was just another great Indian dinner. The ambiance didn't really speak Indian to me and perhaps they aren't finished decorating yet although the tables were sturdy wood (not cheap cafeteria tables) and the music station/TV was on Indian dance. I might recommend some plants, wall hangings, and even perhaps some frosted glass on the windows to block out some of the parking lot and busy traffic views.
