Are pie-making classes being held via Zoom?

Hi, Cookie! Unfortunately, no pie classes via Zoom at the moment, but we’re working on it! Also will resume in-person classes — with appropriate safety measures — when it’s safe to do so. I hope to see you in class this year!

This year our company contacted LA Food Works and did a team building event. LA Food Works…read morespecializes in group cooking classes and the entire event lasted about 3~4 hours. Rose is the event organizer and everyone met at her house at 10 AM. After a warm reception and a quick introduction, we quickly split into different teams and I was assigned to the Creamy White Bean and Fennel Casserole station. The staff was very helpful and I just simply followed staff's instructions. Everyone pretty much finished the cooking by 12 PM and we were able to enjoy fruits of our labor! *** Menu *** * Roasted Beef Tenderloin and Chicken Stuffed with Mixed Herb Pesto * Arugula Salad with Candied Pine Nuts and Parmesan Dressing * Roasted Broccoli with Pumpkin Seeds, Pecorino and Gremolata * Creamy White Bean and Fennel Casserole * Lemon Souffle Cake with Macerated Mixed Berries Personally I liked arugula salad the best and my least favorite dish was lemon souffle cake (too sweet). Rose even emailed a digital copy of the recipe to everyone the following week! Overall it was a great team building experience and we also did a murder mystery right after our lunch (different company - not related to LA Food Works).

My wife and I recently took a class here called "Date Night: Spanish Tapas." The class taught us…read morehow to make several Spanish dishes including Spinach and Manchego Croquetas, Pan Con Tomate and Jamon Serrano, Tortilla Espagnola, and Pork Belly with Membrino Glaze. I'll be completely honest. I was not excited about taking this class. I hate cooking food as much as I love eating it. But the wife dragged me out here anyway. So what's my verdict? As my rating indicates, I was completely wrong about this class. It was a fun experience from start to finish. Chef May did a fantastic job walking us through how to prepare each dish before releasing us to our own individual stations, easing my concern that I would screw things up. When we needed any assistance, she was right there to jump in and provide support. I would be amiss if I didn't mention the best part of the class which is eating the food we made. Every dish was delicious. I especially loved the Pan Con Tomate and Jamon Serrano, and Pork Belly with Membrino Glaze. I would definitely recommend taking a class here. If they could make a guy like me who hates cooking enjoy the experience, they must be doing something right. We'll be back very soon for an encore. We're signed up for the Pan Pizza class. Looking forward to it!

Five days later and no contact from Pam. I was so excited to take my mister to their Father's Day class. We're empty nesters and this was meant to be a special treat for both of us. He's not big on cooking classes but the posted menu was appealing and I promised to do all the heavy lifting. Ribeye Steak -- thought we'd learn some new techniques to elevate our steak prep game. Mexican Street Corn Dip and Homemade Tater Tots -- summer corn is a family favorite and the thought of making homemade tater tots was intriguing. Smash Burger Sliders -- wanted to learn to consistently nail that crispy exterior. Inexplicably, we were paired with another pair -- a single dad with an 8 yo kid. Neither the mister nor I wanted this but we didn't want to make a scene or hurt anyone's feelings. We didn't even realize we were paired with them until the chef pointed out that our mise en place tray was setup for four. Why?? 1. The Mexican Street Corn Dip which I think was supposed to be an appetizer, was completely omitted. However, we did make a grilled corn salad as part of the meal. There was no appetizer served when we arrived. 2. Instead of homemade tater tots we made potato wedges. 3. The team we were paired with was lovely. However the class was well beyond their skill level. So instead of taking on the bulk of the work for 2 people, I did the bulk of the prep for 4 people. The course description says there may be seasonal substitutions but these substitutions utilized the same core ingredients. This was more work than I anticipated and left me feeling a bit overwhelmed and behind schedule. This threw the timing off and my mister enjoyed his steak alone while I was still standing at a hot stove prepping food for 4 people. Not the fun afternoon of "us" time I'd envisioned. Overall this was a subpar experience in so many areas that mattered to us. Left me personally disappointed and apologizing to my mister for the poor planning and execution. Could have spent the same amount of money without the hour+ drive and had a better experience.

On arrival the parking is on the surrounding streets and since it was the weekend I found parking easily but I can imagine it's harder during a weekday. The building has a large sign so you know which door to go into for The King's Roost. I am still an amateur at making sourdough with my regular sourdough starter and when I saw this offered through Renaissance club who signed me up I was excited to learn what I'm doing wrong. Well, this class didn't teach me about how to make my current breads better, but instead taught me about the world of wheat that I've never really understood and how to make a good wheat bread which actually seems easier to do than my regular starter bread. If you take the class you'll understand the whole gluten thing and reason for needing to knead more with one versus only gentle folds with the other! I follow a girl on Instagram who used a countertop mill to mill einkorn and I always thought that's too much work and I didn't think it's something I could do. In this class I got to see the countertop mills first hand and how easy they are to use, I got to see the differences between the white or red grains and I got to taste the different bread examples fresh out of the oven! Not only that, but we were all given a portion of wheat starter to take home! I am really excited about this because as I'm getting older, proper nutrition without added chemicals and additives is becoming more important to me. Right now the dough we made in class is sitting in a bowl rising and I am just so excited to put it in the oven later and see how my very first wheat bread will come out! I'm also converted and probably will be getting my own countertop mill soon!
