I came here because I spend weekends with my mom in Hayward and needed to have my jewelry appraised. Cindy's number was the first one that showed up on Yelp so I called and made a Saturday appointment with her. I have never had anything appraised before so I was literally hers to do whatever with. After Some talking she quoted me $150 per item for appraisal and an additional $100 per item that had any gemstones in it so she could send it to her friend and have her friend ensure it's really a ruby/emerald etc... she also wanted To keep my stuff any where from a week to 2 weeks and stated it was common practice in her industry. I did not feel right about this and the thought and process gave me anxiety. I text and called my family who also advised me to not fall for that. So I simply left, however I called Higgens to see if they can do an appraisal but not keep my stuff for a week... and guess what they did. They also charged 1/8 of what Cindy would have charged. You said that my 2 bracelets that had rubies in them would cost $150 each to appraise with an additional $100 to to have it assessed. I hate writing this but I was definitely misled. I was looking to get my engagement ring rodium plated (as you do every so often with a white gold ring). I called ahead and was told it was $35 to get the rodium plating done. I was excited to see the great reviews on yelp so off I went. Cindy was very knowledgeable and pleasant but after looking at my ring she told me the price was actually $55. As I was going to get work done on two rings the total just went from $70 to $110. I don't think so. She politely explained that gold prices have gone up, etc. All this could have been avoided if she just told me over the phone that she has a sliding scale but she didn't. The jump from $35 to $55 is a significant one. I just had the ring rodium plated last April so I know what the prices are. I took my rings and left. I have no idea what the work would have been like had I stayed there, maybe Cindy is amazing. On a business note, I am quite surprised she let me leave. I have known Cindy for 20+ years and when it came time to pick my engagement ring I went with someone I knew I could trust. She guided me through the process and took the time to explain everything so I could understand where my money was best spent. I moved away from California so everything was done via phone and txt which was helpful for me with a busy schedule and working graveyard shift. Cindy always stayed in constant contact and never lost touch with me day or night. I was a little hesitant about how this would all work not being able to sit down with her and look over designs but I was pretty shocked how easy the whole process turned out being. Cindy would send me designs and I would send her back my opinions and she'd give me rendering ideas to choose from and we could talk and tweak the idea as I see fit. I knew I could tell her what I wanted and she would get it and being able to trust the person you're working with is such a big deal to me because I knew the job would be done right and if it wasn't she would always double check with me first.
