I had blown my speakers in my truck. Too much Heavy Metal (if there is such a thing). Went to Custom sounds. Talked to Rick. Found speakers I liked (Hertz). At a reasonable price. They were in stock. So, I got them. Had them installed. Install went well. No issues. Damn. They sound amazing! Tested them with Heavy Metal music (duh). Sounds so much better! Clearer and cleaner. With a bit of bite to them. Rick and his team were awesome. He didn't try to upsell me. Just told me the pros and cons (which wasn't anything of consequence). Very good experience. Probably, will have them install a new head unit soon. read more

Please take your vehicle somewhere else. I had my Jeep installed with an alarm and the very next day the usb front console stopped working. I took it that next day to get fixed, but they told me it was just my cable. Plugged my cable in and it worked. But the problem kept happening sporadically. I soon noticed that it wasn't just the console usb that stopped working, but the usb-c port front console as well and also the middle console and rear console usb ports were not working. I had recently purchased my Jeep and have not even had to do an oil change on it yet. I DO NOT RECOMEND this business unless they offer to fix the problem. No navigation, charging or music available to me. Everything was working just fine the whole time the day before the alarm was installed and I have found online that this sometimes happens with a bad car alarm install. Again DO NOT GO HERE. I can not in good conscious recommend this business. Even at this moment it is bringing me grief. read more

Update, well after I wrote this review I was called by the district manager and the president of the company. They made it right and honored what was told first told to me. They offered a refund and an apology. Also all of them were completely respectful towards me and thanked me for my military service. 1 Star is still staying-- instead of refunding the young man charged my card again!! He had no idea he did this until I pointed it out and his coworker fixed the mistake and refunded me the charge and the refund processed. This was Friday so almost 600 of my money was on hold for a week...... please under stand this is not a great experience. A week later my alarm stopped working, I took it back and they told me I would have to schedule an appointment during the week being they were busy! Why don't we fix and install equipment properly so I don't have to come back. I had to call the president, who was awesome and sent me up north to get it fixed. Not how I wanted to spend 3 hours of my day on a Saturday plus wasting gas! I wanted a radio and sound system but after all this I'm probably going to go somewhere else! Maybe drive up to the Burnet location and have them do it. I'm still on the fence. As I was at the congress location a man approached me and told me he was back to have something fixed that was originally supposed to be installed! Come on guys! Still not happy but it's fixed! I have to say going from excited to upset in a matter of dropping off my truck to picking up! I was quoted for an alarm system that would remote start and have an app and I was quoted $703 with a 10% military discount. When I picked up I was told military was only 5% and the guy was upset giving the extra percent.... sorry for My service I guess.... then I was told the app was not included that I would have to pay 199 and extra for labor?!?.... hmmm maybe you all should explain things better!! I'm not the expert.. you are!! WTH! Also nobody showed me how to use and or walk me through the features. I guess that's optional as well. Happy with the product and the installation with one exception: Was not asked about XM receiver when I had the unit installed. I then assumed it must be built into the unit. When I came back through town 6 months later, I found out that it is a separate installation and that they wanted $200+ for installation. Should have and WOULD have had it done then, but was never asked about during service. They should have at least offered to split the cost with me since they never asked...but will just use the app through the system. Very poor communication. read more

This is my 3rd time to use Custom Sounds. Put an Apple car play deck in my teen daughters car so she could have hands free calling and good navigation on large screen. All three times I have had great service and they do really good work. Deck looks like it came from the factory in the dash. Would highly recommend them. Can't speak for all locations, but the S. I don't typically write reviews but I'm doing this so everyone is careful of this place. You will get ripped off if you don't know your stuff when it comes to audio. I did not but was hoping the professionals would. Not so much. I went into this store in 2021. I bought a new Enclave and wanted to enhance the sound. Amy suggested Focals. She showed me how they sound and fell in love. I drop my car off and it was ready pretty quickly. I picked up my car, got inside and it sounded exactly the same as when I dropped it off. Come to find out I needed an amp. Was never told this. We're talking labor guys. A lot of money. Taking apart my dash and doors to install all of this. So I thought well I have to do it because I just got them all put in to sound the same. So they go to install the amp. Amy calls me and tells me that with my car being new at the time, they didn't sell an after market product yet. If they were to install the amp everything including my blinker would be heard from down the street. She suggests to wait until the after market product came out. It's 11/1/2023 and still no after market product! I'm driving around with Focals that never work to their full potential. It's basically still factory. Don't go here or if you do, don't get screwed like I did. It makes me sick knowing I have $2000 door speakers that will never work. What a waste. read more

I thought the customer service was very good! They scheduled me in ASAP and had the job done in exceptional time! I used to tint windows, so I know how tough it is to do. I give this place in 8 out of 10 on quality of work. Most of the windows came out really nice I noticed a couple of dust particles but that's normal but it was very minimal so they did a great job there I only spotted one major bubble on my driver door but again that happens from time to time and they give you a lifetime warranty so it shouldn't be too hard to get it fixed. I would say the price is pretty fair for the quality of work. I'm pretty happy with the finished product ! read more

I went into the store on Monday, talked to the salesman, came up with a game plan for my truck, they took it to the back, had it for 20 to 30 minutes, then they came to tell me it needed more stuff and more money, I said ok, got a quote printed out, said I will have to come back in morning since now it will take almost 4 hours. I took off work, Tuesday morning, went to the store, handed in my quote and keys and the lady behind counter said we can't do it for that price. They missed quoted you. It's going to be a couple hundred more dollars. I said I have a quote from your company, she said I don't care, it's wrong!! We are not doing it for that price. After a disappointing visit to the car stereo section of Best Buy, I thought I'd give Custom Sounds a shot to find a new stereo. When I walked in, there were 3 employees talking to each other behind the counter. Within a minute, two of them disappeared and one was left to deal with me and all of the subsequent customers who walked in. The poor guy was swamped and couldn't properly handle everybody's questions. I was told to check out one Kenwood unit that he swore had bluetooth streaming. I told him I had researched it and it didn't have streaming. He said he got it to work. Well, after wasting 10 minutes trying to get it to connect and then looking up the specs on Kenwood's site on my phone, he finally believed me. I wanted to look at an Alpine similar to the one I had come in for. The control box seemed to be so malfunctioned that it took the poor sales guy 5 minutes just to get audio from out of the speakers. How can I trust this company to install my stereo correctly if they can't even get the store display to operate properly? Then he told me the price of the Alpine I was originally interested in. It was marked up by 70% from Crutchfield! And Crutchfield includes mounting hardware, these guys charge even more on mounting hardware. The bluetooth adapter was marked up considerably, as well as the steering wheel controller, etc. Grand total: $780 with installation! What!? Grand total if purchased online and ~$80 installation: $410 Then he gave some shpeel about how they're pricier but they do a very good job at installing. Oh really? For a 90%, $370 markup that install job better give orgasms to everybody I drive past. Sorry Custom Sounds - you guys were completely disappointing. Moving to Austin from Cali I didn't expect to find audio shops out here that are as good as back home. I stumbled across this place and I'm very thankful I did. I met with Aaron regarding an issue with one of my subs and he quickly diagnosed the problem and laid out the solutions. He didn't try to upsell me on things I didn't need or push me to buy his product which I respect a lot. I had to send my sub out to get replaced by the manufacturers warranty and he helped get all the paperwork done and sent it off for me. While waiting I couldn't help but notice the fantastic prices on some of the 12" subs, and since I was gonna be out of mine for a couple months I couldn't help but purchase those. They got me installed and up and running and couldn't have been happier. NOW HERE IS THE KICKER, a week after getting all set up I lost power to my subs via faulty wiring that was done at a previous location and was NO FAULT of theirs. Called Aaron and he got me in same day and was able to fix the problem without a hassle. While there I decided to dynamite the trunk as well to eliminate any noise. Took care of all my needs and was very helpful and informative along the way. I don't write many reviews but I wanted to personally thank Aaron and Dustin for getting me squared away on what I wanted and working with me on everything. And to the fellow tatted Cali guy that actually did all the labor and install I wanted to thank you for doing a hell of a job. I'm sorry that I didn't get your name. So I just Spoke with Aron (not sure on the spelling) on the phone about installing a car alarm and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about his products we spoke briefly but he was very professional and told me what i needed to know. So I'm adding onto this review because i just got my car alarm installed today by these guys on S. Lamar and the service was incredible. So i came in at 9:55, they open at 10 but the guy opened the doors for me anyways. I walked in told them that I spoke with Aron on the phone and he remembered me. I told him what I wanted and he gave me a price and I disappointingly said that was too expensive for me so he asked what my budget was and when i told him he actually sat down and plugged in some numbers and met it. he also informed me later in the day that the installation required an additional part and he still came in on budget. HOW AWESOME! My car alarm works great and the remote start is amazing especially with how hot our summers are! Aron walked me out made sure every thing on the car was working appropriately and walked me through the basic function before i left. I had a custom box and upgraded my sub woofer in my Audi A5. Joe and Wayne went above an beyond to make my car sound and look amazing. As a US Army member they hooked me up and now I will recommend them to all military and Austin Euro Gruppe members. Also the very next day I had tint put on and my bad for not going through Custom Sounds because SHADE SHOP shorted out the amazing work they did. Buyer beware!!! This is the first review I have ever written. This review is for Custom Sounds on Burnet rd. I bought an audio control sound processor, Kenwood 5 channel amp, JL sub, JL front speakers, and hertz back speakers. The Hertz speakers are super distorted after only a few months. Custom sounds says they can't help me because I didn't get the extended warranty. So the 1 year warranty from the manufacture doesn't matter to Custom Sounds. Also, they charged me to dynamat my trunk. After the annoying rattling drove me crazy, I checked. I can't find any dynamat. read more

My wife and I worked with Larry at Custom Sounds on South Congress Ave to have two rear windows tinted and remote start installed on our passenger van. We signed off on the estimate and came back the next day to pick it up and they said there was more work they had to do and the bill came back $190.00 higher than the estimate. No phone call was made to us indicating why or to get our approval. Larry then worked the overage down to $52.00 over the estimate and I told him no. I am writing this review as it is happening. He fixed reworking the ticket and it came in less .06 under the estimate I signed. If I didn't speak up I would be $190.00 poorer. Please pay attention to your estimate and hold them to it. I wanted to upgrade my sound system in my 2014 Chevy truck. I had started my quest at Best Buy talking to the installer and quickly decided to go to Custom Sounds. So the first trip I worked with Jason! We went in the sound room and within 10 minutes I knew I wanted a box,2 10" Rockford Fosgate subs, 2-new Hertz Speaker and a 2 channel amp. I have a friend who said he could do it all for me. So I go back the next day and Brandon sold me everything at the price I was quoted even though I wasn't using them to install it. Two days later I changed my mind and went back to see if they would put it in. I worked with Jason again and started asking if we could amplify the speakers as well as the subs! He said yes but I would have to get a 5 channel amp and it would be several hundred dollars more. After hearing the difference in the sound room I couldn't live without it. He priced matched everything he could for me and saved me some $$. I made my appointment and they installed it yesterday!! Matt the installer is very meticulous and very neat! I was totally impressed with his work. When he was done he asked me to get in the drivers seat so he could tune the amp for the best sound. This review is for all custom sounds locations because I have worked with all 3 of them. I'm a huge sound guy and immediately after purchasing my 2016 Malibu I wanted to upgrade my sound system immediately. The guys there did an amazing job, most crisp sound, the subs hit hard as hell.. being a sound guy I can't tell you how happy I was with the quality of everything from the customized subwoofer boxes on each side but also esthetically it looked fantastic as well. Austin Driskill at the i35/fiesta location was the point man and kept me in the loop around the clock. I had a bit of a hiccup on a Friday just before a major day on the water. They were able to get me into their Lamar store, Austin met me there, they informed me of what caused an issue and they were able to remedy the problem right away (needed a new amp, one of 5), I was kept in the loop literally every hour that's such a relief Whether it's a boat or a car or whatever you're doing with sound.. you and your car/boat are in excellent hands.. they treat it as if it were theirs.. which is huge bc I feel nervous leaving my boat anywhere. I had purchased a stereo and was having issues with the install. I had called them to see how much it was going to cost to finish up the install. I was originally told $55. The stock radio was already out of the car. The only thing they needed to do was wired up the wiring harness and bolt the new stereo in. I swung by and dropped my car off. They called me later on in the afternoon. The guy who had originally helped me was a tad bit arrogant. To my surprise, he charged me over $100 for the install, even though the job was pretty much half done. The guy originally quoted me $55. You could argue that they were not sure what still needed to be done; but, I left them with everything, explaining they only thing they needed to do was solder the harness, plug it in and bolt everything back up. I was amazed they charged me a "shop fee" for supples. On, you had to use your own solder. I did bring them everything they needed. I am sure this is standard practice for them. If I knew they were going to "bait and switch" me with their install price, I would have gone elsewhere. I would like to get an amp and speakers for the rear installed as well, but will not be going back to this location. read more

I spent thousands on an aftermarket sound system through these guys. After 3 attempts to make an appointment to fix some underlying issues, nothing. I tried over the phone as well as in-person. Extremely dissatisfied with their service and I won't be coming back. I'd rather pay out of pocket for another audio shop to solve any issues that my warranty should've covered for free. If you come here expect to get your money taken fast but put on the back burner if you aren't throwing them more $$$$. read more

I made an appointment a week prior to have a stereo (that I bought elsewhere) installed in my car (double DIN navigation unit, satellite radio, and an adapter for the steering wheel controls - nothing else) and provided all information that was asked of me. I show up for my 11am appointment on time (5 minutes early in fact) and the kid helping me tells me that he wont have time today to do my install. What??!!?? I should have been the first appointment of the day. Let me back up a second - this same kid is the one who came tearing into the parking lot all Tokyo Drift this morning in his mustang, walked right past me not even acknowledging my presence, and slid in the front door without a "be with you in a moment" or anything. Just to clarify - I can literally see my appointment written in "the book". Its not like someone forgot to book my appointment. After telling me he cant get my stereo installed today, he proceeds to scold me for not telling whomever I spoke with to book the appointment what all I needed done. "Well - its Sunday and I only have one guy and that will take all day...", saying this to me like its my fault. I'm dumbfounded at this point and explain to him that the burden is not on me but on him to find some way to help me out or I can go elsewhere with my business. After he continues to argue over who's fault this is, he tells me that he can get it started today and have it done tomorrow for SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. No offer of a discount, freebie, etc for the inconvenience. Nope. Not when the big box store will do the same job for half that, not to mention have it done today without an appointment. Probably one of the worst places I've ever taken my car to get an installment done... when I first came to this place I wanted to get a subwoofer system and tent installed on the vehicle The shop is 35 minutes away from me, while they were installing, I receive a call from them telling me that the car is ready I drove 30 minutes over there just to find out that the car isn't ready and the tent wasn't installed yet, I didn't really think too much about it and just let it slide just to take my car home later on that day and find out the next morning that they did a half assed job on the tent, There were lots of large air pockets in the Driver, passenger side, and rear window tent. I gave the shop a call back letting them know what I saw in the man that I talked to told me to give it 3 to 5 days for the Pockets to go away... i'm sorry what? Air bubbles just don't magically disappear overtime... but just to take the chance I gave it 5 days, bubbles were still there, they told me to bring it back in so they can re-install and remove the bubbles, I pointed out all the bubbles on the tent but I wanted fixed, the employee gave me the thumbs up and told me he would call me when it's done.... I don't even think they took the tent off and reinstalled it because when I got my car back I only noticed a couple of bubbles that were gone and the installer didn't even lay a finger on the rear window this point I was starting to get frustrated so I had to call them again and tell them that they did not do a good job and that I don't want to see a single bubble on any of the tint. They gave me $150 refund and said that they would do a full detail re-installment. Guess what? They still manage to fuck it up. It looks like it just progressively got worse and worse and not only that but the solution that they use for the tent to stick on the window, they just let it splash everywhere in the car and didn't bother to clean it up, so now my car smelt like nauseating sour bitter vinegar. Another thing they fucked up on is that they destroyed an expensive product that I had under the driver side seat in the car it was a ham radio The stupid installer decided to push the seat so far forward that it ripped all the cords out of the radio and now its completely broken.... and overall, I just never felt welcomed at the place, one of the dudes at the counter would just give me this " what the fuck do you want?" Type look and every time I was on the phone with them it just sounded like they didn't even care enough to speak words and I just got nothing but this vibe of none of them giving a shit. But the sales representative Kevin gives me horrible service every time I go, he belongs on his keyboard playing Skyrim not "helping" customers build the sound system they desire. I did not receive a hello when walking in the door, he was typing emails and on the phone while talking to me. (THE CUSTOMER IN FRONT OF YOU COMES FIRST) I've spent thousands of dollars with custom sounds and have no complaints on any other experiences. I came in to get my sub "re"-screwed in; the technician didn't check to see if the sub was screwed in properly, (along with other center console pieces not lining up and the interior door pieces not being secured to the door).I am more than capable of doing the fix myself, but when spending $1600 do you expect to have to re-secure hard ware on your system? read more

Brought my car in because the dealership had disconnected some wires in my stereo and were going to charge me $110 just to diagnose it! Brought it here as the guy on the phone was really friendly and helpful.. and they took a quick look and told me they could swap them out for an hours labor charge-$55. They had it finished in less than an hour and it works perfectly! One star removed only because there were some parts added in, under $10, but I wish they had communicated that to me. I've been dealing with Custom Sounds since 2003, and was really angry when I last took my truck in to have a speaker wire changed. I picked up my truck within 1.5 hours, yet they tried to charge me for two hours of labor. After the thousands upon thousands of dollars I've spent w this company, you'd think they'd treat me honestly & fairly! The turnover rate amongst managers seems high, & unless you develop a rapport w someone, they'll take advantage of you.
