Made a reservation for Valentine's Day to Cuts. For that special occasion, they gave my wife a rose which was good since I didn't get her any flowers lol. Menu is the same as other days which is nice. I know some restaurants have a special menu on days like V day. My wife had the soup du jour which was ciopinno in a bowl ($20), she said it was delicious but very filling for a side order before the main course. My wife had the Prime NY (well done) and I had the Ribeye (Medium) along with garlic mash along with bone marrow butter. My wife said her steak was a bit too salty for her liking but I tried it and it was okay. Could be because of the cook of the steak. I had her try my ribeye and she liked it a bit more and had a few slices since she liked the taste. Our waitress was super nice but she did mention 2 things we didn't expect and could be because of the special V day. One was there was a 90 minute time to dine. Weird that with a time limit, we waited a good length of time for our steak which we didn't get til 40 mins into our seating (I was looking at our time left to actually enjoy our main course) And 2nd, the gratuity tip of 20% was added to the bill despite just 2 of us. The booths are large and allow for privacy if you're looking for an intimate dinner or if you are wanting a more casual experience the bar has open seating with both booths and high tops. There is a full bar with excellent mixed drinks in the back, but if you're looking for wine I suggest brining your own. The main reason I give a 4 star review as I would have hoped for a better wine selection. Price point is average for a steak house. The 14oz steak was cooked nicely and was tasty, my wife says she's had better, but she is also comparing it with A5 Wagyu which is a little unfair . The butternut squash was a very nice touch. I ordered the Cuts burger and substituted the American cheese for blue cheese. It was on point. I was surprised to find the slice of heirloom tomato and pickles were piled on ensure you'd get some in every bite. The rosemary fries that accompanied were a hit at the table. I also ordered the bone marrow butter but really couldn't get a sense of the taste. That was a bummer. I also wish the steaks came with a side instead of having to order them a la carte. This was our second time here and this experience was the best! We made reservations to celebrate a birthday, however, the restaurant was pretty empty since it was a Tuesday night. We sat in the back near the bar. Our server and bartender were both very attentive and were very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. We felt like we had a very private dining experience and enjoyed every minute! Our food was absolutely delicious. The sides are huge and should be shared. We go to Cuts all the time had a reservation but we were a little late (15min) we got sat in the middle table area by the bar I asked for booth what we always get she said they didn't have booths which the entire place was still empty at 5:15, like everyone else had a reservation I had one also... so between front and back areas about 2-3 booths were open the entire time we were there till we left... hostess was not very nice and definitely not helpful... not good business... food was great only other complain I had is had to keep asking for refills on iced teas normally they just get refilled had to ask 3 times. The service was great! The meat was wonderful. The vegetables were need a lot of work. I had the broccoli and brussle sprouts both of which were over done. They took perfectly good brussle sprouts and pan fried them making them dry and crunchy. The broccoli was almost nonexistent and buried under the meat. Tonight was our first visit to Cuts in Turlock. My girlfriend and I were looking forward to trying this place for awhile, as we go to a lot of places during the week. We know what we like, and pretty much know how the night is going to go, with drinks, and always expensive plates.., meaning my girlfriend likes the ribeye and I'm a filet minion guy.. so it's always around $150-200 no matter where we go.. and everywhere we go, my girlfriend orders a drink, and always asks if she can get a couple of black cherries in her drink.., and we have never had any problems with it.. but the bartenders here at this establishment, had to make it known, as if we were peasants that we could only get one.. or would have to charge for them, .50 cents a piece. Now I understand charging for something, if that's how the bar is run.. but put it in the price of the drink.., we would have been fine with it.. , but the way the bar tender acted about , was only embarrassing to himself.. because he was more worried about a .50 cent black cherry over a $200 dinner ticket .. , not to mention, we always tip really good.. I have to say.., this place has rookies behind the bar.., the guy who seemed to be in charge just kept on justifying his it's not ice.. it's not free..lol.. was unbelievable.., we weren't asking for the whole jar.., , like I said.., complete rookies on how to take care of the customer. This place is fantastic! We picked this restaurant for our work's annual manager dinner and I was blown away. Brandon, our server, was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. SIGNS OF DECLINE I have been to this restaurant several times, but the last time gave me a lot to ponder. When I first walked in, there was a sign on the front door, saying that they gave a discount for cash transactions. That's a big tip off that they're not doing well. I sat at the bar because I was by myself and the bartender asked me what I wanted to drink and I ordered a whiskey and water. I was one of three people sitting at the bar and the only one who hadn't gotten my drink yet. I waited for five minutes and he never made my drink, so I prompted him by saying that I was going to the bathroom to wash my hands. I came back, and there was still no drink made. I waited another 10 minutes and then finally he made my drink and brought it to me with no explanation. the restaurant was 1/3 full as it was 6PM on a Thursday night. I was perplexed as to Wyatt took 15 minutes to make a simple cocktail, but I pressed on. I waited for another 10 minutes and finally I told him that I was ready to order as he had not taken the cue that my menu was closed, and I was sitting there looking at him. I ordered an 8-ounce filet, medium rare with the roasted corn w/chilies as a side. I waited for my order to arrive and as I waited, a man sat next to me with his daughter, and I started talking to him. He identified himself as a beef rancher from Napa. We talked about the restaurant and how it had been pretty consistently good with food and serviced in the past. The bartender came over and asked him if he wanted bread and got his drink order. Bread? I never heard of any bread offered nor was it offered to me after the gentleman next to me, said he would like some. I waited 25 minutes for my steak and it was served on a white round plate with no garnish -no anything just a white plate with a piece of meat in the middle of it and the roasted corn served in a small cast-iron skillet. I thought what strange presentation and it definitely didn't match my previous trips to the restaurant but I cut into my steak and immediately knew there was a problem. It was medium well. I could've let medium slide but medium well is not edible for me because I am a medium rare steak eater. sometime edges could be funny on steak so I cut to the middle and it was cooked medium well all the way through. The bartender never checked on me ask how things were and then finally, 10 minutes later, ask how things were. I turned the state team and said is this medium rare, he said no that's a problem. I'll take it back to the kitchen. I've been waited for another 25 minutes and the gentleman next to me was so surprised that it was taking such a long time and kept commenting that I should probably get the steak free. I agreed, as it had been over an hour since my original order and things have been not great with service nor with the food. I think the bartender heard us speaking because he came over at told me that it would be about five minutes more. I had somewhere to be at 7:30 PM, so I told him that I just needed to get my bill because I couldn't wait any longer. He told me he would get the manager, and fix it for me. as I waited, the gentleman next to me from Napa could not believe what was going on, and I shared his sentiment. When the bartender returned, he had another steak in his hand and said are you sure you don't want this and stuck in my face. I said, I guess sure, And proceeded to try to eat the steak in the next five minutes because I had to go. When I cut into it, you guessed it, medium well again. I showed it to the gentleman next to me and he laughed out loud and said this is like you're getting punkt! At this point, I was done so I just ate the steak and asked for my bill. The bartender told me he took the drink off my tab which saved me $13. The steak cost me $50! Unbelievable! I don't see this place staying in business for much longer. read more
