And very southern hospitality. Food is always great. I normally get brisket. Or a brisket sandwich. Love the coleslaw, always have to get that. Brisket was loaded with meat. In fact I took some out because it was a lot. Figured I would use the left overs for a brisket taco for breakfast at home. The sandwich I like on a hamburger bun. Just meat and bread. You can get the different sauces from their self serve station. Self service station has the best spicy carrots. I love them so much. The heat is perfect. I have always enjoyed my done in experience. And the food is just fantastic. Can never go wrong with Rudy's

I got in line and ordered my meat by the pound with a 1/2 pound extra lean brisket and half a hottie(jalapeno sausage). I also got a new potatoes and a large sweet tea! They cut the meat fresh and weigh it in front of you. I stepped to drink station and got a sweet tea. There is a full self serve drink station along with sweet and unsweetened tea. The food was great as usual and the restaurant is clean and inviting. I love the feel but had to get mine to go today. If you're in town Rudy's is a great stop !

Things are cluttered inside; not neat and modern looking like a 7-Eleven. It definitely has the Hill Country Charm that most old country stores have, plus a large selection on snacks, ice cold beer, drinks and beef jerky. But most of all...THEY SELL LIVE BAIT!! Live minnows, worms, stink bait, shad, and miscellaneous fishing tackle!! This is a Hard Find in West Austin. Honestly its the Only place that I've found near Lake Travis that sells live minnows and shad.

Service was curt and to the point (more of a 'point and grunt' kind of thing), and prices were high, but no worse than the local 7-11. You do pay for the convenience. There was a strange sort of sticky residue on several of the soda selections in the fridge which could have been from a long-gone burst can. Or maybe this is where The Blob kicked back to relax after eating Steve McQueen in 1958. Also a strange odor permeates the store: part gone-off bait, part Spicy Slim-Jim. Be warned that the gas pump setup is still there, but the pumps themselves are long gone. Stop by the Randall's up the street if you need gas. But do stop by. While I wouldn't recommend anything there that isn't sealed in a can or bottle, there is a really awesome taco truck and gun shop in the lot.

This is what the sign looks like now in 2016 - no gas for sale! An earlier reviewer's photo from 2010 still had gas prices up.

Happy story here. I…read morelive in Austin, land of water restrictions. I try to water-conserve, so I don't wash my car nearly enough. Not pretty! I decided in a very last minute guilt-ridden way to wash the car at my local Chevron gas station/7-Eleven one evening last week. Picked the $12 "The Works" option and drove through. The next day on a sunny morning, my car didn't look too clean. I could see where the scrubbers had struck and where they had missed. They had missed a lot. I was already on my way to work with a busy week ahead. Then the hottest day of the year happened - 107 degrees F. (No, that's not the heat index). Two days later, it rained lightly. My windows now had jagged curtains of dirt plus speckled polkadots of rain+dirt. That's when I discovered that the heat had evaporated my windshield washer fluid. I've been pumping gas at this Chevron station for decades. So I headed over there, plotting to "borrow" the windshield cleaner blade for temporarily improved window visibility. That's when I remembered that I still had the receipt for the car wash. I walked in asking for the manager, and Ryan responded with a "that would be me." When Ryan saw the jagged dirt curtain on my back window, he handed me a coupon for their best car wash, the Extreme, but before he let me go, he went to his own car and hand washed the back window with a clean towel and glass cleaner, explaining that the scrubbers have trouble reaching under the spoiler. Excellent service. Nice guy. Clean car. Happy customer.
