I am extremely surprised to see the less than average rating for this business as my experience was far from this. First and most importantly, a 24-HR CVS?!!! Unheard of where I'm from. I understand that many people use Yelp as a vehicle to vent or complain, but it'd be nice to get reviews for the things that they do right. I decided to walk off a big Friday night meal by walking here to help a friend find a particular shampoo brand. I found it and decided to browse the refrigerated drink section to get something for my room. It is only two blocks above Cannery Row if you're staying in the area and a good sized parking lot if you're driving in. As I considered using the self checkout my machine, a kind lady behind the counter offered to check me out and did help me. Thank you, Martha, for making me feel welcome. They ned a new manager who hires good staff. You never see the same ones ringing up you prescriptions. In fact, you don't see the same pharmacist and they looked overworked. You need to update the hours for your pharmacy on Apple Maps. It has said that you are 24 hours for as long as I can remember. It shouldn't be hard to change. I've had this inconvenience several times. I understand that on your website, it gives the appropriate hours, that is not reciprocated to any other search engine that clearly states that the CVS pharmacy on lighthouse is 24 hours. This store, mainly the pharmacy, is the worst. When the parking lot is full you walk in to go to the pharmacy and there is a line 8 people long every time with only one person working at the desk. Why aren't they hiring more people to work during the busy hours? Also my dad needed a medicine that was $160 per month at CVS. And he was paying it obviously. One day we were at Costco and he decides to ask the price there. It was $30! So he goes back to cvs to change his RX to Costco and informs the lady why. She replies "yeah we know. It's due to Medicare." LOL no I'm pretty sure it's not. And my mom moved her Rx to a tiny local place in Pacific Grove and it was also cheaper. What a joke CVS. FRIDGES BROKEN AND NO SIGN Their fridges have been broken for at least two weeks now with no signage on them. products are still inside and posted for sale. This is causing the store to stink like spoiled milk, making it unbearable to be in there.I feel bad for the employees too. There is no signage to tell customers not to open the fridges to buy the items. this would be easy as there are usually no staff in the front to warn people. Absolutely the worst customer service ever experienced at a pharmacy. I waited in a line with 5 people in front of me. When I got to the front of the line I saw a total of three "counters". The one I was in said "mobile app orders". I could not see this before because of all the people in front of me. The lady just gave me a dirty look and waved me away because I didn't have a mobile app order. I tried to speak to her and she just waved me away like trash and walked away. I am not even kidding... So after 10 minutes waiting I had to get in the next line over. Another 6 or 8 people in line in front of me. And another 15 more minutes. I have never been treated so rudely before in my life by someone who is supposedly in "customer service". Lady, you need to find another job. CVS, you need to replace her. Good Lord..... read more

I told the clerk at the prescription counter that I felt like I might faint. She brought me a chair and water. That was very kind and considerate. However, I found it impossible to learn when my prescription would be ready for pick up. I wish CVS had actual humans to talk to when I call to ask if my prescription is ready. read more

I'm new to town and had to order some medicine from the pharmacy. If you are going to a pharmacy right when they open it's already not a good day. I walk in and wait at the counter because I thought it said they open at 8am online. The lady behind the counter ignores me for a while and then turns around super annoyed and says we open at 9 and I'm like oh ok and I turn around to leave and come back later. As I'm turning around this other lady is like "that's why the lights aren't on" in a really nasty tone. I get it. I worked customer service people are dumb. I also understand that I read your hours wrong. BUT, There is no reason to be nasty and mean to someone who makes an honest mistake AND THEN TRIES TO FIX THE MISTAKE AND COME BACK LATER. CVS on lighthouse in Monterey is contracted with a delivery service called Roadies. I am very sick so I requested around 1 PM today to have my prescriptions delivered with some much needed antibiotics. When I ordered delivery, it said the prescription would be delivered between 2:15 and 4:15 today January 6 I called CVS at 7 PM (6 hours later) and they said that Roadies had not even picked up my prescription yet, and I asked the pharmacy technician to cancel the delivery and the almost $10 delivery charge and just put it back on their shelf and I'll pick it up in the morning. He said he would try and I told him to please tell his manager how crappy Roadies is as a delivery service for a pharmacy. I told him it's not like they're delivering a packet of socks, they're delivering much needed medication for very ill people. He told me he wasn't gonna tell his manager and had a very flippant attitude with me... certainly not sympathetic nor helpful to somebody who is so ill. If that's the best CVS can do then I'm transferring my prescription to Safeway in Pacific Grove. I used to have Rite Aid pharmacy, which I loved, but unfortunately, they went bankrupt and my prescriptions were transferred by them to CVS. I tried to call the Roadies phone number they gave me and I was on hold for over 15 minutes with a recording that just kept coming on saying that they were very busy and would answer when the next representative was available. They are a terrible company. CVS can do much better. This company delivers UPS packages like huge items, etc. sounds to me like they need a courier service not a friggin UPS delivery company. Sorry, I'm just so upset right now and it takes a lot to get me this worked up. this is the first review I've ever given in my entire life.... And I'm 75 years old.! This is a good pit stop to grab the essentials for a road trip. The CVS is open 24 hour which is a big difference compared to the CVS in San Francisco which closes early. I was surprised to see all the discounts available for different products. I even found after Christmas specials which were discounted deeply. A good one stop shop. read more

It was nice to have this pharmacy at a close walking distance from our hotel. More often than not, I find myself either in need of or running out of some item that I forgot to pack sufficiently for vacation. I'm a loyal CVS Pharmacy shopper with my "Extra Care" card always close at hand. This store was typical of other CVS's that I have patronized, so finding the products I use most often made shopping quick and easy. The employees were friendly; the store spacious and well stocked with just about anything you would need from medications, cosmetics, housewares, food & drinks, sundries and many other necessary staples we can't live without. They even had a small and inexpensive souvenir section devoted to us tourists. We just had to purchase a few shot glasses in memory of our trip to add to our collection at home. Unfortunately, the picture of a cute sea otter pretty much washed off after placing them in the dishwasher! At least they were cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for! read more

Pharmacy staff there are very rude and did not return my phone call. Other CVS pharmacies return phone calls within one hour.

I was on hold for over 29 min. Maybe they're great. I'll never know. Just a note, if your entire business model involves working with sick people, maybe don't torture them. read more

The Covid vaccination staff was fabulous and professional. Thank you kindly for the excellent experience! CVS is very basic and overpriced. Sale items have normal prices. Perhaps, I am just an old experienced shopper/buyer and buy generic goods 80% of the time. Very high or low shelf space is less expensive for sellers, so the goods on those shelves are usually better priced. The psychology of shopping is a fun game, marketing 101. An OK CVS. It felt kind of dated inside although they did have three self checkout machines in the front. Although one was closed and another one was malfunctioning (not closing the previous transaction properly) for awhile. The waiting line for prescriptions basically took up the aisle that I was looking at which was a little awkward to navigate. There is a parking lot and this store is open 24 hours so that's nice. Monterey feels kind of dingy in some areas though and I felt like the area outside of the CVS kinda felt like that, so I'm not sure if I'd walk here at night by myself. read more

I walked in to do some shopping and immediately was hit with a mold smell. I thought it was the live plants they sell at the front door but there was only a few which would not have produced the smell throughout the building. It was soo bad that I did not want to breathe and decided to evacuate the building as soon as possible. I am sure that the mold is not good for employees to be breathing all day and it is not a nice atmosphere for customers to do their shopping. I wish I could give zero stars. I called asking if they had a prescription I need to you know, stay alive, since my usual CVS is having trouble getting it. They did have it but the extremely rude woman said, "Ugh you need to call your doctor and issue a new prescription or else I can't transfer the prescription." When I started to ask about that process she just hung up the phone. I wasn't about to go through the whole prompt just to tell her she's a horrible human being who needs to take her job seriously-- people's lives depend on medications. I'm giving 2 stars for the friendly workers. It seems like getting a medication is always a hassle or a two visit ordeal. They say it's ready but I then have to wait 30 minutes. They text they don't have medicine and I am told they always have it. Today I needed a medicine that I lost but they made no attempt to help me. I got a text that I wasn't up for refill. Duh! This store has abysmal management. The very atmosphere is toxic. There is zero communication between management and staff. They change pharmacy hours frequently but don't notify customers. Pharmacy tech training is zero. Besides all this, they don't monitor their parking lot and it's frequently full of tourist parking so I cannot park. read more

This review is for the 686 Lighthouse Ave location. I chose to ignore one bad experience, but when it happened twice, I decided to publish them on Yelp! First bad experience: My wife purchased items that included a candy bar. She began eating it on the way out the door. A pimple-faced boy employee approached her and asserted, "YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT CANDY!" My wife replied, "You are going to apologize to me in minute!" My wife produced her sales receipt, which included the Candy Bar. Instead of apologizing for falsely accusing her of being a thief, he just grunted and walked away. This teenage waste of oxygen does not know the difference between asking a question and making an accusation! And, he does not know when an apology is appropriate! Second bad experience: I used this pharmacy for my COVID-19 vaccine shots. I made an appointment for a booster. They texted me an appointment confirmation, and another text again on the day of my appointment. I showed up ontime, just for them to tell me that their vaccine supply ran out days ago! I asked them, "Why are you confirming vaccine appointments when you have no vaccine?" Expecting at the very least to get an apology from them, all I got was excuses that didn't forgive my wasted afternoon going to CVS. Apparently, apologies are forbidden at CVS. So now, my future business is forbidden at CVS. read more

Wrote a feedback to CVS regarding my recent experience at this CVS, my recent of few I've provided over the 18 years I've lived in this area. The experience revolved around what many reviewers here complained about.The lack of empathy and sympathy, knowledge or willing to help from the staff all the way to the top (with the exception of two girls working in the pharmacy). Their answers is always I don't know without even trying to offer to help or the send you on a wild goose chase and that includes the manage who was there for at least 15 years and has grown comfortable in her position without any motivation to improve herself or staff despite my complaints about her and I'm sure many other customers and the low rating this location on Yelp. I pointed out all of these points in my feedback to CVS. Apparently, CVS passed her my feedback and the following is the email I received from her: Dear Name, Thank you for sharing your feedback. As the store manager I can assure you we do have a lot of happy customers. Came here to pick up a few essentials (contact lens carrying case, contact solution). Small parking lot but close to Cannery Row. Customer service was friendly. We came here on a Sunday evening after 6 p.m. and when a line formed to check out- they called someone else to check to speed up the process for the customers. Ages, ago in high school I worked for Long's Drugs. I did like Long's Drugs better than CVS. I find on average that CVS is more expensive than Long's Drugs but if you're in need of pharmacy, sundries or regular essentials out here in this area- CVS is definitely your best bet. read more

This store is GREAT! I love that they're open 24 hrs. After working 6p-6a for years I still have night owl tendencies ; ) I often find myself walking thru their door in the wee hours, realizing I didn't really NEED anything, but mostly wanted to say hi to the night shift employees whom I now consider friends. I love grabbing their weekly ad, leisurely walking the aisles and always end up with a basket full of thigs I didn't know I needed : ) I had to visit the Fremont St store recently since the website showed they had something that was out of stock at my Lighthouse store. What a difference!! Everyone I encountered seemed like they were in a very foul mood and when I asked for help 3 times and got misinformation each time, I decided it wasn't worth it, and just left. This place was actually really clean and organized. Came here to grab a few things. Cashier by the name of Sharon was very sweet and helpful. She was a local and told us places to go that we may like. After reading a lot of reviews from other CVS, I feel like Sharon should be a customer service trainer. I recently moved back to the area and was new to this pharmacy, when I got my prescriptions filled they were very helpful especially because I was using Good Rx and I know it makes their job more difficult with the barcodes. They are risking their lives to give us the medication we need so bravo to them! I also called and needed help with my prescription and Ed was very helpful over the phone.
