    Assortment of helmets

I stopped in looking for bicycle accessories and equipment. Shortly after entering I realized this place sells motorcycle gear and not bicycle gear. Nevertheless the gentleman working in the shop offered prompt assistance and advised they don't sell anything for bicycles. I did however notice that they sold motorcycle helmets, jackets, gloves, and other accessories. The shop was very neat and organized, I'd recommend stopping by if in need of motorcycle gear.

Awesome selection of Helmets, Visors and Gloves.

Hubby got a catalog in the mail and decided to "Surprise me" with a new armored leather jacket. It's been 18 months since our near death accident so I'm not totally ready to get back on a bike. We pulled up to the cycle gear store and I thought to myself "why are we here"? Upon entering to the store, we were immediately greeted with great BIG smiles by Coby and Josh. Coby asked us if it was our first time in the store and gave us a tour. He was very receptive and helpful. He answered all of our questions and when my husband told him he wanted to buy me a new armored Leather Jacket, Coby showed us different options from the most expensive to the sales rack. ( Kudos! You know us city girls are always looking to save a buck on the clearance racks). After my husband picked out my new Bilt Jacket, we purchased the Leather Lotion to protect it since it does have a 5yr warranty!! These guys really know their stuff and are willing to share their knowledge with their customers. I felt so at ease that I agreed to get back on a bike again, but only if my husband dresses me like the Michelin man! Cycle Gear is located on Dorchester Road, easily accessible from I26, 526, or local roads. It has a private enclosed parking lot with plenty of parking that protects you from busy street traffic. I highly recommend this store for all motorcycle enthusiasts young or old. I will definitely return to purchase additional fashionable protective gear and girly accessories.

It was awesome that there is a Cycle Gear here in Charleston. I used to go to the Cycle Gears back home in California, so was a sigh of relief. Their location is smaller than other CGs, but I'm ok with it. If they don't have it in the store, they can still order it for you. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I felt like they were in a good spot, being between a few motorcycle dealerships.

I've found great deals on gear going through their clearance and they carry random knick knacks that riders in general will find amusing.

On August 14, 2024, I had them check my battery in my 2014 Ford Edge, which I knew was bad already…read more They determined that it was bad & found the correct Die Hard replacement battery. The battery was removed & the young saleman started to install the new battery & I stopped him to question the battery that he was putting in. (It was a smaller battery with less cranking amps). I asked him to double check to see if that was the correct battery. He had selected the wrong battery for my vehicle. Now with the correct battery, he began the installation process. He got the battery installed & went to place the battery locking bar into place but wasn"t able to secure it. After getting another saleman/technician & the manager, it was determined that the locking bar screw had been broken upon the removal of the battery. So I left the store with a broken battery locking bar on my battery 2.25 hrs after I arrived. I don't recommend anyone using this store for battery replacement! They have a bunch of young inexperienced people working there & they don't supply them with the needed tools to do the job properly for those one off jobs that pop up like this one.

You know where to find me if you want to make things right. I rarely write reviews, but people need to be warned about this business. Story time below if you are interested. At first, it seemed like a good experience. I called on Friday and spoke with Bernie, who quickly gave me a quote for a little over $1,300 out the door for the four tires I needed. He set me up with an appointment to drop my truck off Monday for installation. Monday morning, I dropped off my truck and was told the tires would be done and installed in just a few hours. Around noon, I called to follow up and spoke with a different employee who said my truck was ready to be picked up but two TPMS sensors weren't working. I told the shady salesman on the phone that all four sensors were working fine when I dropped the truck off and declined the $200+ service he tried to sell me. He claimed that in his "30 years of experience, this happens all the time." I decided to trust common sense instead. When I arrived to pick up my truck, I was greeted by that same shady salesman with 30 years of experience sitting behind a counter stealing from people. He tried to charge me nearly $1,700 even after a 10% first responder discount. I told him that was incorrect and not the price I had been quoted. After some discussion and pushing back, Bernie finally came over and admitted that the promotion he had quoted me on Friday (and scheduled the appointment for) had expired on Sunday. After more back-and-forth and explaining how unhappy I was with their tactics, they finally adjusted the bill back to the original quote. Once the price issue was resolved, I raised my concern about the TPMS system failing while the truck was in their possession. Also, it didn't seem fair to charge me $9.99 for a "TPMS relearn" when the sensors weren't working. The salesman came back with his infinite wisdom, drew four squares on a piece of paper, and rambled about his 30 years of experience, claiming that removing a tire from the vehicle "kills" the TPMS sensor. By this point, I was so frustrated that I decided it wasn't worth arguing anymore and just paid the bill. After paying, I went to get my truck with the brand new tires I should have been excited about. As I walked across the parking lot, I saw my wheels and tires completely smothered in white grease, looking like a 3-year-old had finger-painted them at daycare. I was already fed up, so I got in the truck to leave. My dash was lit up like a Christmas tree with TPMS warnings. I hit the reset button using my years of experience with a YouTube search... and it worked. Now it was reading correctly, and I could see they had severely over-inflated all four tires. The "relearn" they charged me for clearly hadn't been done. I thought I was finally ready to go home, but I decided to check that the professionals at Pep Boys had put my spare tire back in its carrier. Of course not. They had just lazily tossed it in the bed of my truck. In summary: Don't go here. They'll quote you one price to get you in the door, try to upsell you things you don't need with their "30 years of countertop experience," and do absolutely everything incorrectly and sloppily.
