My wife and I went in looking for helmets. As soon as we walked in the door Miguel greeted us and asked what we were looking for. When we said helmets he said "Give me a minute to finish up here and I'll be right over." Miguel then proceeded to spend 45 minutes with us making sure we had questions answered and he could check each helmet's fit on us. We had tried on helmets at another Cycle Gear but hadn't found what we were looking for. Miguel was patient and took the time to explain features and answer questions we had as we were trying on helmets. My wife and I both walked out with new helmets that are exactly what we wanted. Came in for some glove liners and ended up getting more gear than i'd planned! I was immediately helped by sherman, 'n he reffered me to the perfect size thermal gear. I also found the helmet I'd wanted for some time. Took everything up front 'n ryan let me know that I'd be able to finance my purchase 'n sure enough, it all checked out. This store is ok. A lot of their stuff is really cheap. I bought some tire irons that were actually pretty expensive and they bent within minutes of starting to mount a tire. I bought a jacket for $250 that lasted 3 months of mostly being in the closet (Street and Steel). The leather cracked and had white salt or something all over it. I guess from the tanning process. It never even made it to riding season. I had bought it for myself for Christmas. I had a bike stand that broke within a couple uses. Consider them the harbor freight of bike parts. I did have a helmet helmet I liked. Luckily I never tested the strength of it. I had a jacket from them before that was good. It lasted for years, same brand even. I guess it's hit or miss. I've had some other things I got there I liked too. read more

I've been buying motorcycle gears from Cycle Gears for years. They usually have stuff in stock so you can try them on, and they have a great return policy so you only keep gears that you are happy with. Well, I'm finally writing a review for them today because their service really knocked it out of the park. I needed a receipt from almost 5 years ago for a warranty claim with Alpinestars. 5pm on a Saturday. Business hours say they close at 6pm. Calling for 15 minutes, interested to see if you have a tire in stock. Ring ring ring for 5 minutes. No answer. Try again and again. No answer. I get it that the one person at the front desk might busy with another customer, can't answer the phone and other staff can't be bothered. Hint; hire another person to answer the phone on busy days. It's good for business if you want it. read more

NEW RIDERS BEWARE: I just went to Cycle Gear today looking for some new leathers and while shopping felt like I was getting the minimum amount of attention the salesperson could give me without making me feel like I was being ignored. What really got me though was that the salesperson was trying to sell me whatever I tried on, regardless of how well it really fit. With jeans, who cares? With motorcycle equipment that could save ones life in a crash - that's a big deal. Nice, helpful, and friendly staff. B has bought tons of things here, from bike parts to his full leathers for more than 50% off. Last year we also picked up my helmet and textile jacket on a sale too. My boots were marked down from $200+ to $50 and they're waterproof. My only complaint is their lack of women's pants. Yeah, they have a lot of jackets, but I wish they carried more pants, whether leather or textile. We've been on the hunt for some touring pants after this kid flew off a sportbike Memorial Day weekend with only a jacket, no gloves, and jeans on. Needless to say his jeans were shredded and his ass was out in the open. Poor kid was bleeding profusely, but was still alive after he stopped rolling on the road. Very disturbing to see. That being said, all riders/passengers shoudl be in the market for pants and hopefully Cycle Gear will start carrying more for the ladies. read more

Instead of being that aimless regular guy walking in to browse and look like i know what i'm looking for, granted my experienced friend was there with me. I should have marched on up and just welcome all the help these guys were willing to provide. I didn't feell ike they were tyring to trick me into buying something not worth and in fact, they were asking for my size and found me this awesome deal with the Arai Corsair helmet. And the best part, as a $550 helmet, it was on sale and marked down to $360ish and instantly caught my attention. I left feeling like I can definitely come back and check some more stuff out. If you ride motorcycles, turn tricks or like high priced jewelery one thing is certain: you are going down. It's just a question of when. On the bike your significant other is Mr. Asphalt, and Mr. A ain't smooth. Imagine sliding over a 20 foot cheese grater with a new chunk of flesh ripped off every inch or two. That's what your intimate encounter is going to be like if you aren't in leather. And if you think you don't really need knee protection try this fun experiment: go to a parking lot and fall rapidly on your kneecaps. Then imagine doing it at 20 MPH. Yea, I'd pass too. Better some dead cow hide and rubber gets pounded and grated then your body. If you ride you need protective clothing. There are three parameters in choosing motorcycle clothing: Cheap, effective and aesthetically pleasing (good looking and comfortable). Basically, you gotta choose two of them and live with it, and the effective part is non-negotiable. Their stuff is top-notch, feels great, looks good and will last. But cheap its not - expect to pay $400-600 for a jacket and maybe 300-500 for pants. On the other hand, the products you'll find at Cycle Gear are much cheaper, pretty much as effective (most of their products are EU certified), but less pleasing. Expect to get a perfectly OK jacket or set of pants for around $200. Similarly, a functional leather suit for the track can be had on sale for around $400, at least $800 less than a slightly higher quality version of the same thing sold elsewhere. Service has taken some knocks, but I've always found it, like the merchandise, to be good enough. Cycle Gear also has a reasonable collection of accessories (locks, fluids, some small parts). You can get better prices on line, but if you need it immediately they are as good as any place in the city. When you get off (your bike) you'll be wearing exactly what you wore when you got on. I'm going to repeat what several people have already mentioned. I think it's worth repeating. Cycle Gear is not the place to go if you want even a basic level of customer service (e.g., being acknowledged when you walk in, not being ignored by sales people as you walk around the entire store obviously in search of someone who can answer a question). On top of that, if you're a woman, forget about it. And God help you if you happened to walk in with a dress on. You must not be a serious rider/buyer. I had to pretty much nag a guy on the floor to answer my questions. When I asked for women's motorcycle jackets, he vaguely gestured across the store with a "there and there," and let a male customer interrupt me and went off to help him instead. Eventually, a customer shopping for helmets ended up answering some of my questions. HE was way more professional and respectful than the employees on the floor that day. So I wandered around, found some gloves that fit, and decided to take my business elsewhere for the costlier items like a helmet and a jacket. I'm a new rider and I was on the lookout for a shop I could visit whenever I am ready to buy new accessories and apparel, which I am definitely going to do soon. They couldn't give two shits about me, and the feeling is mutual. When I told the shop that sold me my bike about how I was treated, I was told this is not news to them. I would have given this business one star, but the lady who was working at the cash register was helpful as I was paying for what little I did purchase. All I know is that if someday I need to return to this store, I will only walk in if that lady is there. I hope I never have to. read more

Terrible customer service. Defective products. This is not the store to shop at. I bought a $200 flipface helmet from them and 3 months later the chin piece fell off- while I was riding! Since I was near the store I drove in to exchange it. The Sunday riders who work there refused to exchange it and violated their own service policies, as posted on their own website, by insisting that I leave it there to let their distributor decide "whenever they get around to it"... From the Cycle Gear website: "If anything you purchase from us fails to perform up to your expectations, we will quickly replace the product or refund your purchase. And we will never charge you a restocking fee. It's that simple. If there is a defect with a product purchased from Cycle Gear, we'll never send you to the manufacturer." I've used similar helmets for years and I've been a daily rider for 15 years. That had never happened with a helmet before and is absolutely unacceptable. Don't support bad faith chain stores that sell unsafe products to riders... read more

If you ride and enjoy infuriatingly lackadaisical customer service, this is the store for you. A great place to browse on your own for cheap gear (but who wants the cheapest stuff on offer when buying safety gear). If you want information or for someone to actually sell you something, and you value your time, there are other places just a few blocks away where you can get questions answered by staff whose knowledge you can trust and who will not leave you standing around for 10 minutes while your blood pressure inches up. This is a great store to get all your motorcycle gear and accessories. Once you've completed the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) course they'll even give you 15% off your entire purchase the first time you present the card. I was really impressed by the wide selection of helmets and jackets. The staff were super helpful and provided great insight as to the differences between some of the product offerings. read more

It's the supermarket of motorcycle gear. When you need it now and you need it fast. Huge store with a large selection for every budget. Everything from the cheap Motoboss brand to bling bling Dainese. They sell street gear and dirt gear and offer selections for men, women and children. I've never found the sales people unhelpful. They don't always know what they're talking about, but you can't expect them to know everything. My only complaint is in getting tires mounted...it used to be they would mount your tires within an hour of you bringing in your rims, but alas - no longer. They recommend that you drop them off in the morning and then come back at the end of the day to pick them up. Make sure you check your tires too because I've had someone mount one on backwards. The prices are retail, so if you're patient, most likely you can order the product online and save yourself some money (that you can use for tracktime!). BUT, if you need it NOW - chances are they've got it. read more

I must say, one of the most helpful crew and excellent salesmanship I've seen in a while. My bro recently bought a bike and was looking at jackets and helmets. John Paul (I hope I've got his name right) spent an hour or even more explaining everything there was to know about different helmets and jackets, and gave recommendations which made sense and didn't burn holes in the pocket. He helped us even beyond shop hours, which isn't something you see often at all. He was as nice when I went a few weeks later to pick up some small gadgets. I wish I could give them 2 and a half stars. This review is based on several visits over the years. The staff is good. They're knowledgeable and polite. The staff is a big reason I return. As the years have passed they carry less and less stock that isn't their own brands (Bilt and Sedici). So, if you want to buy THEIR brand of stuff, great! If you want other brands they tend to have pretty limited supply (similar to stores about a third their size). Bilt is absolutely a budget brand. For certain types of things that fine. For things where my life and general health and well being are on the line, it's hard for me to justify saving 20% and getting something where I can see and feel a decrease in quality (materials, stitching and such). Sedici is a little better than Bilt, but that makes it on par with lower end brands found in other stores. Knowing that they have a great warranty does not make me feel better about potentially wearing sub par gear that may endanger me. I've been in on more than one occasion looking for something they didn't have in stock and been told to just buy it online. I didn't care for this. I wanted to try the item on in person to determine fit rather than dealing with ordering one or two and returning one or both items. If I was going to buy it online I wouldn't have come in to the store in the first place. read more

As a newbie, Cycle Gear was the first place I went to, to check out all the gear that I would need to start riding. The experience was extremely underwhelming, and I felt like most of the people were unable to really "engage" with me. They did not seem happy to earn my business either, I thought maybe they were the only guys in the business and could perhaps afford to conduct themselves in this manner. I heard about Scuderia a cpl of weeks later where I enjoyed a totally different and very positive experience. What I did like about cycle gear was that when I did discovered Scuderia with gear that was a lot better suited to me, Cycle Gear took back all that I chose to return. I feel bad for not remembering the name of the one associate who was younger and wore dreads, but she had a great attitude and seemed very willing to help and answer all my questions. read more

When I'm in this place, I feel as though I'm in a Longs Drugs for motorcyclists. The selection is dangerously vast and the prices are great. I had gripes with their customer service in the past, but it seems as though they're changing that a great deal. The past few times I went there, everyone was really helpful and keen. It's a different sort of knowledge base and vibe than the smaller shops to which I tend to go. In some ways, it feels like how Kragen might have been when they were smaller and fewer in number. This shop is easy on their returns and exchanges as everyone states. They are, however, a minor detour off my route home and there's a ton of motorcycle parking right out front. If you have problems with compulsive spending, I'd suggest you stay out of harms way here. There are way too many things you can just pick up on the way home. I try to limit my stops there to once every couple of months so I don't have to constantly hide my new acquisitions from my woman, as though I were having some illicit affair with some easy, greased-up, leather clad, fire breathing temptress from mid-town. read more

Like most motorcycle gear shops, their selection of women's stuff is always less than I would like to see, but, I have to say that they have the most that I have ever seen. So basically it takes up about 1/5 of the store. Actually, that might be pretty impressive... The sales staff is incredibly helpful. I was standing in front of the gloves section looking totally lost and they guided me in the right direction. I know you need to make a sale, but making $300 Dainese gloves my first and only option...come on. Ordering process is simple, shipping is fast and free. Customer service on the other hand it non-forgiving and super militant. They aren't willing to work with the customer what so ever. Bought some sedici pants that only they sell, told me try them, if I don't like them i can return them, on them, as they are trying to give people a taste of the new brand. The pants came in and they are too long, knee protectors are not in the right place, but I cant go a size smaller because waist would be too small. I tried to return them but they wont hold their word and want me to pay shipping for trying a new brand. Lets just say I wont be trying or buying anything from them again. They also sell everything at retail price. If you shop online, you know most moto places will give you some sort of discount off MSRP. read more

Price is reasonable and generally affordable. Abundant selections. Customer service varies. I cannot remember their names but one of the salesmen is always nice and helpful, others are mediocre as what described in many comments here. One bad experience with one salesperson is that he told me that I need only one engine ice for my r6 coolant change confidently. I bought one. It turns out that I had to rush back to the store from a bike shop during the coolant change service to buy another engine ice because one was definitely not enough. More than two friends told me that trying not to order things that you cannot find in the store from them, who tell you a 3-5 days waiting but actually always beyond that. Nice location though. My wife and I visited Cycle Gear on a Friday night, looking to buy two new motorcycle helmets. Despite being the only customers in the store, the four employees at the cash register were more interested in telling jokes to each other than in making a sale. After 20 minutes of trying on helmets ourselves (without a single glance or offer of assistance from the four employees) we left. I went to this cycle to buy some gloves because I had lost my pair of gloves. I bought some gloves and the gloves started tearing within a day. After two weeks of owning the gloves I showed the worker Miguel my gloves and he said he can help me exchange this gloves for a better set of gloves. I was very pleased with such great customer service. Also I'd like to thank Richard there as well for helping me out with looking for my next new Helmet. I recommend this place for anyone/everyone. I was visiting San Francisco and rented a bike from the local Harley shop but I was unable to adapt my heated gear for use with the rental and the Harley shop could not even be bothered to try to help. For first time riders, this place is a good start. I already have come to depend on Cycle Gear to have a wide range of gear and products at reasonable prices. Often they will have seasonal sales with big discounts. They have a HUGE selection of their in house brand, BiLT. Although I'm not a huge fan, the quality of their brand is good. The biggest reason I shop here is their 100% satisfaction guarantee and their 5-year guarantee. I like particularly like shopping at the SF store primarily because of the selection and staff.
