We scheduled to have my 2006 yzf-r6 serviced and decided to pick up the bike next week since I am going on vacation the following day. When i got there he told me to stick around for just an hour as he was able to fit me into his early morning appointments. This morning, the electric starter on my motorcycle stopped working. Panicked, I reached out to a few of my former colleagues at SKULLY for advice, but all the suggestions in the world didn't help me. The gas tank was full. The lights were all on. I choked it -- no dice. I gave it some throttle, and still no reaction. In a last ditch effort, I put in a call to a local motorcycle repair shop, and guess who showed up at my door to jump start my bike himself? Michael Carion, one of the founders of BARF - Bay Area Riders Forum, the largest motorcycle riding group in the Bay Area. Shut. Up!! When he mentioned his name in the forum was "cafe racer", we got into an excited chat about building cafe racers, and talking about what we could do for my little chopper. I've always wanted my own cafe racer! "Come by the shop anytime and just hang out! We could do some serious work on this thing," he said. Are you kidding?! The answer is obviously yes! After jump starting my bike, he lead the way to his shop while I rode behind him, a little nervous since I don't often ride through the city. When we got there, he gave me an AMAZING deal, was incredibly welcoming, kind, and completely understanding of my excitement to ride but fear of doing so alone. I'm really looking forward to joining Mike and the rest of the BARF crew at a future bike meetup, and *super* stoked to go on a group ride. No matter what level of experience rider you are, take your bike into calspeed if you need any work done! Not only did Mike provide a very professional customer service experience but very speedy work on my bike. I only came in expecting to get some maintenance work but I actually got more. He noticed I installed my side mirrors incorrectly and he fixed it for me free of charge. He also walked me through all the work after completion and educated me on what he did specifically and why. He also pointed out that my brake pads were running very low and recommended that I get it taken care of within a few months. I've only been riding for a year now and I felt very confident with his work. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does and that's all I need to see from anyone that I'm taking my business to. Michael is absolutely amazing. I may literally owe him my life, and I had thought my Vespa just needed a quick service! My husband noticed that the coolant levels on my Vespa were getting low, and rather than bring it to the local dealership (who have treated me poorly in the past - see my Marina Auto Body review for the deets there, plus it's 2015 now so my year warranty is up), I decided to look for a local shop. Lo and behold, Calspeed Moto pops up on yelp as being right down the street from me, and when I called to ask if he did Vespa work, there was no hesitation or problem - I dropped my scoot off that same morning (Friday)! He was honest about his timeline - it's a small shop, just him, and he's very, very talented (and therefore very very busy), but that actually worked great for me, since I was away this past weekend and couldn't pick it up until Monday at the earliest anyways. We agreed we'd talk Tuesday and I'd pick it up either Tuesday or Wednesday. Now, remember, I just brought her in for the coolant and because she makes a funny noise when going down hills. It sounded to me like a body noise, likely from when my husband forgot to put his parking brake on and knocked her over in the garage (yes I am still slightly grumpy about this), and since it had been happening for a few months and I hadn't blown up yet I was figuring it wasn't an emergency, but worth mentioning. Tuesday rolls around and I receive a text with pictures - he did a complete oil and filter service for me, and noticed that my front brake line was leaking. He investigated the issue further and caught that it was missing a washer. This is bizarre, because I bought my Vespa brand new from the dealer here in SF and she had been serviced there every prior time - including the "first year full check" as stated and signed in the warranty booklet, including checking the break pads. Supposedly. Now, I use her as a daily driver, but I mostly ride in the city, so as of right now there's about 750 miles on her, and only 500 were on her at the year check. I'm not going to bash someone else in this review, but it's worth noting. In any case, Michael not only noticed the problem, he fixed it, flushed the entire system and replaced it with fluids, and kept the scoot an extra day just to verify that the problem was due to the missing washer and not a caliper issue. He went absolutely above and beyond, and the brakes are now both working beautifully. He also noticed that my tires were at a ridiculously low psi, and reinflated them for me. I didn't realize how difficult it was getting to ride my scoot until I rode her away from the shop and remembered "oh yeah - THIS is how it used to be". I can't compliment Michael enough. I brought my Vespa in for a very basic service, he caught a very serious issue that had slipped by multiple other people, and did it all while keeping me in the loop and for a very reasonable price. I won't bring my Vespa anywhere else from now on. Not to mention, I love supporting local businesses, and this is a local business that is run by a great guy who has been a wonderful local community member for a long time! If you have a motorcycle or a scooter and need anything, I would recommend him in a heartbeat with no hesitation, and I'll be recommending him to everyone I know. Oh, and the funny noise was just a body issue, which I may or may not bother to fix, since if I don't fix it I can keep guilting my husband about it... 0:) Either way, Michael diagnosed it, is awesome, and is fun to talk to - he has a wealth of knowledge about motorcycling in the area, and even runs some local trips which I'm going to try to get in on! read more

Michael is a fantastic dude. All his communication was prompt and professional. I went riding all day in the rain a couple of weeks ago and found that the bike wouldn't turn over the next day. I gave Calspeed a call and within an hour Michael checked out the bike and scheduled a follow-up appointment. When he came back, he got the bike started in 20 minutes. Turns out it was the clutch switch wearing out. Michael also gave me suggestions for other parts and maintenance to be done and answered all my questions. Over all great service! It's a small place with one mechanic. Michael is real great guy that took the time to invite me on rides and introduce me to the riding world. I've owned a scooter for a while but am new to motorcycles so of course I had plenty of questions to ask. Michael was very polite and was sure to give me insights and tips on buying a motorcycle. Even offered to take a look at a bike I'd be buying if they bring it by the shop. Anyway, the service I had brought my scooter in was for oil change and Michael did more than was expected. I really like that he took the time to take pictures to illustrate what he was working on, so that I understood what was worked on and why it was done. Reasonable price for what he does for you. 1st impression with this guy, its amazing! I recently had Mike from Calspeed help me with the install of a new exhaust system for my 2018 Vespa. Turned out the mounting bracket wasn't made properly and the mounting holes were not lining up. Michael is a wonderful mechanic and all around great guy! I brought my Vespa to him for an oil change. He not only changed the oil, but he caught a rookie error I made and he ended up changing the oil in my scooter twice (I messed up and brought him the wrong oil). He cleaned and polished my scooter and then was kind enough to drive me to a doctor's appointment when time was getting tight (due to my incorrect oil debacle). I found Calspeed on Yelp after doing some research. I stopped by and talked to Michael and found him to be friendly, knowledgeable, and his rates reasonable. He immediately knew what was wrong with my motorcycle and was honest about what it would cost to repair it and why. This was very important for me because many shops charge you for stuff you don't need and rip you off. Not here. I wish this shop had more reviews and people knew about it. Calspeed and it's owner Michael are a class act. Michael is the most helpful and friendly guy, and he takes the time and effort to make sure that your bike is in tip top shape. I went in to get some brake work done, and his work was meticulously done, and he didn't charge me for the extra time he spent to make sure everything was perfect. Also, he took the liberty to lube all moving parts on the bike and check tolerances, and adjust things as needed. Super great guy who does a stellar job. Long time yelp user but now first time reviewer because I feel that this place deserves it! Like many first time motorcycle owner, taking your motorcycle in for the first time to get serviced can be intimidating. I am happy that I chose Calspeed moto because the experience was excellent. Michael is an amazing guy. Being overall very friendly, he is also very knowledgeable. Right off the bat, he noticed my bike was idling pretty high so he lowered it accordingly. I got the brakes and fluid special done and also had my chain changed because due to my negligence it had rusted quite a lot. Before any work was done, he gave me a run down of the costs and it was much lower than any of the other places I compared with. Also, there was no mark up on the chain and he only charged for replacing it. My motorcycle was ready in a couple of hours and he was very accommodating on pickup times. I got a bunch of decals because I said I liked then and he coincidentally had a box full of them and also I got $5 off because he didn't have any change (how nice! ^^). As for my motorcycle, it felt like an entirely different bike. The parts were all lubed up, the sound was nicer and he also fixed the shifter so it wouldn't get in the way as much. Don't pass this place up because of the quantity of reviewers but focus more on the quality. The customer service is very friendly and it's a fraction of the cost of other places. read more

I found a card left on my bike while I was running at Kezar stadium saying to call about a free chain cleaning. Turns out there was some rust on there I was unaware of. I called Michael up, and he cleaned the chain for free as well as add air to my tires and give me an overall diagnostic of the bike. I set up a second appointment to get an oil change, where he again went above and beyond by waxing the bike and lubing the chain. I've got a ninja 300 (2014 ABS) model. I judge businesses based on: -ease of contact / ease of scheduling / work / information / Price In my humble opinion; Calspeed Moto is a small shop (as opposed to a service garage with a lot of stalls but no personality) and great to work with. I made contact with Michael, it was easy to schedule a time/date acceptable. I opted to sit around and wait for work to be done (oil change, chain adjustment, basic springtime inspection). I confirmed the day prior via text message and he responded quickly. The work has been fine, he even helped me put on my rear spools while at it. After work was done, he explained oil was darker than normal and a little low so to keep an eye out. now full disclosure; with regard to yelp and services rendered you cant always assume things will be perfect. It was great for me in terms of work asked for and work performed and things were easy. For almost a hundred it was great to get a second look after a machine i regularly ride in traffic at moderate speeds. Thanks Michael read more
