They need to organize the check out process better. There are many people behind the counter in the back but no organized line. I went in to Cycle Gear today because one of the guys I am dating sent me off to buy some gear so I can ride around with him on his new motorcycle. I know absolutely NOTHING about anything motorcycle related. My only instructions were, "Make sure you buy a Snell approved helmet." Gee, thanks. So helpful. So I went in, was greeted with a smile even though they were ringing customers up, and made my way over to the women's section. I must have had a wtf face (I was overwhelmed) on because not too long later someone (sorry! do not remember his name) came over and asked if I needed help. He was patient with my lack of knowing anything about anything, my coughing (I've had a cold for two weeks), and having other things to do. We knocked everything out. Helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots. He was very respectful and did to try to upsell me on anything and was honest about what I need and don't need. He was also super nice because I'm pretty sure I was SUPER loud since I can't hear myself form my congestion haha. He also gets props for talking me out of buying the wrong boots. I LOVE boots. I laid eyes on the sexiest pair of boots ever and wanted them. In a very polite way, he let me know those were not the boots for me. I argued a little, but he stood firm and would not let me buy them/ redirected me back to a pair he said was better suited to the motorcycle my friend has. When I later talked to my guy friend about it, he said it had to do with protection not style and that the guy was just looking out for me. So thank you!!! Bonus points because I think it bugged him a little that someone else was looking out for me. All in all, I'm really glad I came here. This guy definitely made it an enjoyable and quick experience. Came in and bought a helmet, pants, jacket, armor and got 15% discount by presenting the CMSP certificate. Even though the helmet was not eligible for the discount, they still applied it. The sales guy was helpful and patient and providing helpful suggestion. I came back a couple of days later because I needed boots. Same guy helped out and honor the 15% discount again, even though it's supposed to be valid for a 1 time transaction only. They probably do not have the best prices, but if you have the CMSP discount, it's not a problem anymore. Good and pleasant experience. read more

Took my rear wheel from my 05 gsxr Bought brand new tire and they put it on backwards, I take it back with my front wheel as well to get a new tire upfront and they charged me for the mount when I went out of my way to remove my rear wheel AGAIN for a mistake they made... charged me anyways! Because I was taking a training course, I had to look for some motorcycle gloves. I was afraid of how much I'd be spending since I was trying to go for a really low budget. Surprisingly, I was able to find really good, perfect fitting leather palmed gloves for only $3.00!! Thank goodness I didn't have to spend $50+. So I just left this place looking for my first helmet for my first bike. And I wish I knew the name of the guy who helped me. I was looking at a Shoei X14 but couldn't find the right fit between a small and a medium and he was super patient and helpful in switching the padding between helmets to try to get the perfect fit. And walking around the store to see how comfortable it was. They didn't have instock which is totally cool. I am going to order online with my crazy odd shaped head that needed a special set up, lol. But I felt really bad that this guy helped me out for a while and was super patient. Great customer service! Most of the time that I have been here the place was really busy so it took a while to get some customer service, since I was kinda new to riding I had a lot of questions on gear. Now I do some reasearch on what I'm looking for befor I go to cycle gear so I don't seem like a total noob, and so far this place is really cool and close to my house. The jury is still out on this place. Offered my husband a military discount and then backed out of it because he didn't have his military ID with him. OK I get that part. I called to see if they would give the discount to us if we went back with the ID and no one would answer my question. Call the manager, they said. Annoying. Also, we asked about a communication device and they showed us a Scala. It looked good so we bought it. However, when they showed it to us, they took everything out of the box and then forgot to put the users manual back in it. I've been to this store on several occasions, while i would love to call out one of the sales associates by name I've yet to find one who wasn't outstanding. They are knowledgeable about the products they have and are very friendly. Here are two examples of times I've been to the store which emphasize the strengths of their crew: A few months back I went to Cycle gear to get some new riding boots, I'd been riding a lot in the rain and finding that regular waterproof footwear wasn't completely optimal for riding in the rain (a fair portion of the water gets in from the top of the boot when riding where one would normally only have to worry about water entering around the soul for regular use). After checking through the selection at the store I couldn't find any boot that was exactly what I was looking for. I had been checking the racks for about 20ish minutes and over the course of the time I had probably heard every associate ask me "would you like any help finding anything?". When I finally asked for advice (Macho pride required that I only do that as a last effort), the sales person pointed out each of the water proof boots that they had on offer, but it didn't end there. The sales person also pointed out which boots had water proof variants that I could order through the stores website. The right boot for me turned out to not be one they had on hand but one that they had online, but since they had a non waterproof version of it in the store I could ensure that I had the size correct before placing my order. I was really amazed by that level of product knowledge and my feet are now warm and dry through the worst rain California can throw my way! Yesterday I went back and had another pleasant experience. I was looking to pick up a cramp buster for my bike (the cramp buster is a palm rest for the throttle which can make longer rides a bit more comfortable). The sales person found the item for me with the correct size for my bike. The best part came at the end when I paid for the item, the item was on sale for 20% off and I didn't even notice that there was a sale going on. We've all had times when we purchase an item that we thought was on sale only to find out the sale ended the day before, or the coupon is only valid for bulk purchases or that it isn't applicable to the particular item that you actually wanted, I really liked that I finally got the reverse of that. Just to mention the stores selection. There is a lot of variety to be had in this store but the layout isn't organized amazingly well (gloves and jackets in particular seem to be all over the place). the majority of the gear is centered around the sports bikes/dirt bikes, but there is still some selection if you want the all leather cruiser look. they have a good selection of cheaper and mid range options but I didn't notice much for the high end super expensive gear (but I tend to avoid those so it could just be i didn't notice them). I wouldn't go so far as to say that this should be only only store you check for your motorcycle gear but I would recommend making a stop to check them out. As a side note: I've noticed a fair number of reviews saying that the female gear selection is lack luster and the options are mostly pink and purple. I didn't notice this but I wasn't really looking at women's gear, though I almost picked up one of the waterproof women's jackets that was super warm (color choices were purple or grey). I wouldn't limit yourself to clothing made specific to your gender. My first motorcycle jacket is actually a women's medium (I am a male) and I still wear it. For warm weather gear that is supposed to fit loosely (for better air circulation) this shouldn't be an issue but for cold weather gear you will want a snug fit (to keep the heat in) so depending on body shape this may be more of an issue. read more

I'm a newbie to motorcycles and went to cycle gear to get my gear (helmet,shoes, gloves and jacket) after seeing the positive reviews on yelp. Brian helped me pick gear and he did a fantastic job. He was patient, explained to me what I should be looking for and not once did he try to up sell me. I was happy with the gear that he helped pick out. They also gave me a 15% discount for taking the MSF course on my entire order. Prices after taxes were comparable to online retailers - plus I got awesome customer service. After I convinced my wife to ride I took her there to gear up and we received the same fantastic service --- and the 15% discount again! Great local store - they stock teh stand brands - alpinestar, shoei, arai, tourmaster and have a cheaper in house brand called BILT. Highly recommended especially if you have taken the MSF course. read more

This place is super cute! At first I thought it would be a real drag because my friend was looking for parts.. and all I get to do is ride B!@#$ on the back... so I have no idea what type of stuff he was looking for. It really wasn't! The first thing I saw when I walked in was women's gear! They had jackets hanging in my size, metal mulisha tank tops and purse... omg, I was like having fun just checking out all these girly things! I come here once in awhile with my boyfriend, who rides. I don't know much about bikes, so I can't comment a lot on the selection of items. But like another yelper mentioned, I do see more dirtbike riders and equipment. But the good thing about this place is their service. Everytime we've been here, the staff is always happy to see you with a big "Hello" as you enter through the door. If you ask a staff for help on finding an item, they won't simply tell you where to go. They'll get on the sales floor, find your items, and get them for you. And if you don't know what to get, they'll grab a couple of different items and show them each to you and explain what they do, etc. So, 4 stars for great service! read more

Upon passing my MSF course and getting my M1 license, I was eager to go out and buy my first motorcycle. But before that, I needed to gear up. I decided that rather than buying online like I do with the majority of my things, it would be a much smarter decision to go into a shop so I could try things on. Any savings from buying online could not justify being improperly fitted. So I decided to put my faith in the guys at Cycle Gear. I went into the store not knowing anything about helmets. So I asked the sales guy for some help. He was friendly and showed me around the store and talked about different features of the various helmets. He was pretty knowledgeable, although there were a couple moments when I sensed BS (sales BS). That I did not appreciate. There was another sales guy who basically talked down any helmet that wasn't a Shoei ($330+ helmets) making me feel a little pressured to buy an expensive helmet. It seems that this guy really tries to sell the idea that a more expensive helmet is a safer helmet (which if you do your own research you'll find is not always true. A $100 helmet could be as safe as a $500 helmet). Up to this point, everything is tolerable, but one fact I can't accept is the first sales guy let me leave the store with a helmet that was one size too large. I had thought I was a medium because I'm a medium in everything including other helmets I've worn. But I asked him outright if I'm a medium or a large and he confidently said I'm a large. For those of you purchasing a helmet for the first time, I'll say that sizing can be a little confusing. Sizing varies across manufacturers and even helmets within the same manufacturer. Plus, you don't really know how snug it should be when people say it should be snug. Now I left the store happy with my purchase but over the weekend I did my own research and found out that clearly I am a medium in the specific helmet I purchased. I measured my own head - something I'm surprised cycle gear doesn't do. (They also did not tell me that different manufacturers tailor their helmets to different head shapes). I was not even borderline large/medium, I was actually closer to borderline small/medium. For a shop that sells motorcycle safety gear, it doesn't seem like they take safety as seriously as they should. If a helmet isn't sized correctly, some or all protection could be compromised. The fortunate thing is Cycle Gear allows you to exchange a helmet within 7 days granted it's in the original condition. They have a large selection of gear, some sales people are more knowledgeable than others, and their prices are nearly on par with online retailers. However, I would strongly advise you to do your research before shopping here (or PM me for advice). Cycle gear having some of their own house brands. You can get great deals on decent gear. Of course you get for what you pay, so don't expect top notch quality from the Built brand gloves & helmets. But they also carry bigger brands like Alpine Star and Fox. They price match with online prices so its great if you need something last minute and want to get competitive pricing. 5 Stars for the customer service they offer. I always see employees with customers and they will always ask If I need help every time I visit the store. They are very consistent with that so if you are heading in with questions they will do their best to answer them. read more

I USED TO LIKE THIS STORE, till my last visit (7/23/11). I understand that all the selection on the net can not be carried in the store, but I at least I was expecting more of a selection on helmet and apparel carried in the store. The selection carried in the store now is limited compared to my previous visits. I was in the helmet section isle when approach by an older sales men, after asking the older sales men a few question on the Bell helmet I was looking for, the sales men lost interest and told me "I am a Shoe men myself" , before he walked away. I asked the sales men another question about the ALPINE-STARS Bionic 2 Protection Jacket, the sales men quickly pointed out a different brand a DAINESE W-T Pro Safety Jacket, instead of telling me more about the Alpine star , he wanted to make the commission and pointed me to a more expensive brand. Every time I come to this store I know what I want to buy and had already done my research. The sales men just annoyed me and ignored him. As soon as I was approach by another sales associate I told her what I wanted and placed an order. The female sales associate told me that Icon boots I wanted is coming from Nevada, so it would be around Tue or Wed. for the boots to get to the store. She assured me that it would be faster ordering from her that me ordering on line. Well, it is now Thu. 7/28/11. I called the store. Same female sales associate answered the phone she told me "we left you a message last Tue. when the boots arrived". I told her no one called me. she blurted out a wrong phone number. While all she could have done was look at my file from my previous purchases and she would have found the correct number. The new associates manning the store from this experience need to improve. Yet another successful visit! I have always found the employees here to be helpful, yesterday was no exception. I went in with a mission, to finally buy a heated jacket liner. If you've read my previos reviews you'll know by now I don't like to get cold. Even on sale this was an investment for me. I wanted to get it absolutely right, the first time. I planned on being very thorough by trying on all 3 liners in my size range. I even remembered to bring my glasses. Angelo appeared only seconds after I found the display for heated gear. He quickly confirmed the sale price from the email I had saved on my phone. He was very helpful with a few suggestions and, volunteered a couple times to go into the back to get the size(s) that were not on display. When I was satisfied with the correct size, he disappeared again to get a new-in-package liner without hesitation. I needed a little extra attention yesterday and Angelo delivered. P.S. In case you didn't already know this, some of the house brand labels are actually made by nationally known manufactures. I have confirmed with the Venture Heat company that they make some of the heated clothing for Cycle Gear. I saved about $75.00 by going to Cycle Gear. read more

If you are going to buy a helmet this is the only place to go. I bought a Scuberth at SJBMW and after noticing it made my forehead red tried to return and no dice. Same experience at Road Rider on a GT Air helmet. Cycle gear spent much more time with me, and I can use the helmet for 7 days and return it if I don't like it. MY B.F. and I are taking CHP beginner's classes for Motorcycle riding next week and we needed gloves for our class. We roamed into the helmet section and started to look at some helmets...I didn't realize until that point that I cannot put on a helmet without feeling Closter phobic. It was so bad that I wanted to not even continue with the CHP classes because I felt that I can't even get into a full face helmet. I really felt so weird. Well we walked over to Shawn and asked him if he had any advice...to cut the long story short. He not only helped me "get over" my fear of being "stuck" in my helmet but he helped me pick a helmet that I felt comfortable wearing ...the helmet as a start...although, I'll be much safer in a full covered helmet...the thought of not being able to "have access to my face" was literally breath taking in a bad way. I felt like he really helped me and this was far beyond superior customer service. The store was busy yet he still took time to manage the store front and help me simultaneously. Cycle Gear is my go to spot! By far because of the employees I come here to pick up everything I need. They are extremely helpful and truly do know customer service. One in particular Sebastian Rodriquez .. First time I went there he was on point and helped me with my helmet choice ,track boots and track suite. Covered all basis I needed since I already had everything else and then invited me out to their Bike Nights which was an absolute amazing time. Third Thursday of the Month usually ! Cool ass people forsure. They just changed the lay out of the location and it looks great, very easy to navigate around and find what you need and if you cant find it just ask one of the guys and BOOM! You are good to go. Sebastian definitely can help you with anything you may need and if you have trouble with finding him then just listen for the guy laughing or cracking jokes. He definitely makes the customers comfortable with what they are buying and even the new riders coming around just for knowledge. Good selection of leather jackets and accessories but I have to only give them 2 stars for lousy service. 1) When I first started riding I bought my helmet, jacket and gloves from there. Got a basic helmet and gloves but spent more on the jacket. About a week after I got the helmet the visor broke where it connects to the helmet. When I went to take it back the older gentleman I spoke to for a refund or replacement had the balls to tell me I bought a cheap helmet rather than try to help me out. That was the last time I ever spent more than $10 at that store. 2) Before that I went by to pick up some sunglasses that would fit under my helmet. The young guy who finally came by to show me their sunglasses kept trying to sell me on a tinted visor that I didn't want to get. Even though I had made it clear I wanted sunglasses and was willing to get good ones he just kept stating that they weren't the best and that if I got in an accident then the lenses may shatter and ruin my eyes. Seemed ridiculous that this person would even bother pointing out the obvious but he kept pressing on it even after I firmly made it clear I didn't want the visor. If I was that concerned about an accident I wouldn't be riding a motorcycle in the first place. read more
