I took three of my girlfriends back to Cypress Restaurant and we had amazing food tonight! We were a little hesitant to order the crabcake sandwich because we are crabcake snobs and it was delicious and I would absolutely get it again! The fries are always good and not drenched in oil. My friend loved the steak and blue cheese salad. I shared the Shobb salad with my friend and it was also amazing. I wish it would've had more shrimp on it, but it was very filling. It comes with the house vinaigrette, but I would recommend the honey vinaigrette instead. The ambience is amazing, the service was top-notch and we are probably going back for New Year's Eve. I wanted to love this place, but I have never felt more awkward leaving a restaurant. We were seated for our reservation and were looking over the menus. The restaurant has very nice decor, but there was no light over our table or on the table and it was incredibly dark during the meal. While taking drinks our waitress was distracted, even cutting my husband off mid-sentence to talk to another table. We find out their out of all salmon, portobello mushrooms, and arugula (an ingredient in the dishes two of us were planning to order). The restaurant wasn't busy but service was slow. Our waitress didn't check back for drink refills. When the food came out, three of the six dishes had issues. The Chicken Apple Brie sandwich was spicy (which the menu doesn't indicate), the roasted fig salad was drenched in bacon grease, and the braised short ribs were cold and had a stray spicy pepper in it. When we were wrapping up, I asked the waitress if the sandwich I ordered was supposed to be spicy in case we came back and I would know whether to order it again or order it differently. We never asked to send any food back, we never asked for anything to be removed, simply asked if it was supposed to be spicy. She said um...I don't know, then immediately got defensive and told me "It's not made wrong, it's correct if that's what you're asking" I mentioned I didn't see anything about it being spicy and she told me it was probably the garlic aioli--which not only is not spicy, but not an ingredient on the sandwich. She then asked me rudely if I wanted her to get the chef out here about this to which I politely declined. After again saying a few other rude things, she said she'd send the manager over. The manager never came, the waitress never refilled drinks, we declined dessert, and paid out check. I talked to the manager on the way out (kudos to Christine for being lovely) who said she hadn't been made aware of any of this and appreciated me bringing it to her attention. She also confirmed the sandwich is in fact not supposed to be spicy. In any event, the waitress made a dinner with an out of town guest incredibly awkward. I've never been verbally attacked by a waitress for asking a question and it certainly wasn't called for. read more

Great new spot in Severna Park! Great service and food that hasn't disappointed yet!!!!

We went for brunch on Oct 12, party of 6. The service was beyond slow. Over an hour to get our food, drink refills that were non existent, cold food and foul water. It was so bad that I called the manager the following day. Manager tells me that yes, the water tasted bad because there is an issue with ice machine. Claimed they were understaffed due to a recent local advertisement. The manager said, "All I can do is say sorry." Just don't go, food cold, water foul and service slow and terrible. "Sorry" doesn't give me back my money, time , or appetite. read more

Decor and Wait staff really nice............But whoever the chef is at lunchtime needs to learn how to cook salmon...........It was so overcooked it was like leather. Way too much bitter arugula in salad and orange and grapefruit slice still had seeds and rind left on them so impossible to cut fruit segments easily. 3 tiny slivers of avocado...........tiny tiny tiny crumbs of pistachio (actually missed them until I searched for them). Just finish lunch here on their grand opening and it was absolutely terrific. The food was super. We had an array of menu choices but the burger was terrific, the wings were great and the salmon sandwich was enormous. Glad to have them in the neighborhood and looking forward to making this a regular in our rotation!! read more

Cypress was amazing! I visited the restaurant yesterday and back the next day. I'm a fan of great food! Everyone was SO welcoming, and warm. The food was fresh and tasty and the portions were large. Tom, Daniel and DeAndre went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of every step of the way. For a restaurant that has only been opened one month, Cypress is absolutely incredible. I have a little test for the quality of the food at any fine restaurant: the Calamari- - it is rare to find calamari that is tender and delicious as it is at Cypress. The staff is excellent, again especially considering that it's only been one month. I noticed that one review criticized the manager for only coming out of the kitchen to grab a drink from the bar. I don't know what to say about that review other than the fact that the manager doesn't drink and is known all around Annapolis for his attentiveness to the dining room- - that was the same review that said Cypress had been open three months. Another reviewer said that she left disappointed; she should have spoken to the manager, he's also known for not allowing his patrons do leave disappointed. Ambiance is great. Nice new and a step up in Severna Park. Atmosphere was great. Food looks great and everyone around me was loving the food, everyone smiling and plates going back empty, which is a great sign. I had the Short rib sandwich. It's has great flavor. However the fries were cold and the Italian bread was straight out of the walk-in (cold, not fresh). I'll try it again at a later date when this is not a new place. I sat at the bar. You can see the heartbeat of a new restaurant and I had no plans on writing a review. However... and I know this is a new restaurant. The experience made me read the reviews. I get all of the positive comments. The negative comments that i read I also agree with. Why? Management. The bar and the kitchen can make or break a restaurant. The bar staff was doing the best they could. I thought the older woman tending bar was cute, fun, nice but shouldn't be there. The service bar tender was swamped and looked out of his league. However clearly both had been behind a bar. So I was puzzled except the fact that they were under staffed and it was clear tonight and in the reviews. The bar should never be backed up, and if it is the manager should be there backing them up. No bar back, no manager, lots of disorganization, chaos. What happened next made perfect sense. The bar tenders family came in and that brought out the manager. Not to help, not to back up the bar, not to great family guest or ANY guest. No, he spent a total of 15 minutes listening to his staff complain, while he poured a drink. He told the hostess to "just deal with it" took his drink and went in the back never to be seen again. I even asked for him to make a visit. Didn't happen. So, while this restaurant has a TON of promise. Without proper management it doesn't matter how good or bad the staff or the food is, it will ultimately fail. I hope feedback is appreciate and the next time I am in I will ask to see the manager with hopefully compliments. I do understand that new openings (3 months open) are tough, but all the more reason for management to be on the floor 1000% of the time. read more

Sat at the bar on a Saturday night and the place was dead. The bartender put our salad in wrong, which they rectified. She talked and was attentive to the people next to us while we were ignored. It must be because only one of us was drinking alcohol. Our meals were just ok and not worth the $100. Really love the look of the place and really wanted to love it, we just didn't. read more

We had a great experience at Cypress on Valentine's Day. Staff was friendly and attentive and food was delicious. They have redesigned the interior and the layout is much better than the previous restaurant- not loud. We will be back! read more

Went for Sunday brunch with friends. While I liked the ambiance and atmosphere, they definitely still have a LOT of kinks to work out regarding service. One of our party ordered a pizza, a salad was brought instead. Pizza didn't come out until after the rest of us finished our meals (which for a thin flat-bread type pizza seems excessively long). Salmon on salad was requested Med-rare, but was basically raw. Took a while to get that resolved because the server didn't come back to check on how our meals were after they were dropped (we had to flag someone down to get her). Mussels were great, asked for more bread to sop up the sauce, which bringing that took ages, and saw on our check we were charged for it which was surprising. Server had to be asked a lot for more water, coffee refills, to take empty plates from the table, etc... If it had been super busy would have understood these misses more. But it was a very quiet noon-ish time at the restaurant. Also, coffee was 2.50, but hot tea was 3.50, as was charged for iced tea. Have hopes for improvement, but will wait a while before going back to give them time to work out the service kinks. read more

We were greeted at the front and the staff is very friendly. Really nice inside. The menu had a good variety. We had the fried tomatoes, shrimp tacos, and roasted fig and goat cheese flatbread. Our server (Sawyer) was amazing but the food was absolutely horrible. We ordered oysters, which were rotten, and our hot food came out cold. After complaining about the food, they took it back and when it finally came out again it was still cold. We complained to the manager and we were told we were in the wrong. Again, love the working staff and atmosphere but the kitchen and management is incredibly disappointing. read more

The food was great . I had the fried green tomatoes over grits I really liked a lot along with the pork chop entree. The drinks from the bar came very slow however because our server wasn't of age to pour himself. My sangria tasted pretty good but had NO fruit which I had never seen before. We went to Cypress a week after they opened. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant interior looked nice. My husband had a cheeseburger and I had the crabcakes. The crabcakes were really good. Lots of crab meat. It came with cole slaw and potatoes. I asked for whipped potatoes as a substitute for the fries. Both sides were good but I brought them home as I was too full from the crabcakes. I recommend the crabcakes and am looking forward to having them the next time we go to Cypress. read more

The food here was amazing, the menu looked awesome. I got the burger it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The staff was great, hostess was super nice, and service was good.
