UPDATE to my one star review: Changed to 4 stars based on their excellent customer service! Mike from D.A. Burns reached out to me a few days after I posted my review below. He was as surprised as I was that the binding on the rug has worn so badly so quickly, and promptly refunded me the cost of the service. I'm happy with that, since trying to redo it would just be too much hassle. Thank you Mike! I'm sorry to be giving D.A. Burns a 1 star review, however after the rug binding they did for me has turned out to be such poor quality I want to warn other customers NOT to do it. I downsized from a house to a small apartment, and rather than buy a new area rug, I opted to have D.A. Burns cut my rug to a smaller size and bind the edges. I met with their helpful staff and picked out the binding color from the many they offer. But after just two months of normal wear and vacuuming, the binding looks terrible (see pi! It's frayed so much it looks cheaply done and probably will come apart within a year! I am shocked they used such poor quality material to do the binding. I expected high quality workmanship from this well established business and am very disappointed I paid for this service from them. They shouldn't offer it with such poor results! read more

I have used DA Burns over the last 20+ years for some special carpets. I have 3 large, hand-made Oriental rugs and I have always entrusted the care of those rugs to DA Burns. And I have never been disappointed. They do special hand work, like turning under the fringe on the carpets to preserve them (yes, by hand...who knew?). I have a rambunctious puppy and he would make short work of the fringe and since the fringe is hand-woven into the rug itself, it is important to preserve it. They do an expert job on cleaning but that's not really the hard part of finding a company to care for handmade rugs. There are lots of carpet cleaners out there but none like DA Burns. Each and every staff member I worked with was professional, courteous and well-mannered. Yes, they are an old-fashioned service business! This is not my first rodeo and I wouldn't consider using anyone else. Simply put, they are the best in Seattle; they may not be the cheapest but they are THE BEST. Recently, my cat had an unfortunate accident on my old leather sofa. The leather is pretty worn and I thought the couch was probably ruined but I called DA Burns just in case they would be able to help. It was easy to schedule an appointment and within a couple of days, Ken arrived at my house to clean and recondition the leather. I could not believe how well the couch turned out - the leather looks beautiful now, with imperfections minimized and with much more uniform color, plus the cat stain is barely visible and there is no odor.... They did a great job on my persian rugs. I needed two of them cleaned. One rug was fraying, so it needed to be repaired. Dropping the rugs off was easy. The Check-in person gave me the cost up front and said when they rugs would be ready. Both carpets now look like new and the damaged rug is repaired perfectly. I recently had a man named Larry Taylor steam carpets and furniture at a house I work in. He was wonderful. He was very kind and patient working around the home owners who are quite old and slow moving. I honestly have no idea how he was able to get all of the endless spots out of their white carpet! He was happy to work around a woman in a wheelchair, in home care coming and going as well as me cleaning their house. When he was finished they asked if he would mind doing a few additional pieces of furniture. He happily got his things back out and was very easy going in a situation most would be annoyed with. To DA and any other residential carpet cleaning businesses reading this review, let me tell you something that will help you when seeking business from someone like my family: Edge stains (a.k.a. filtration staining) on wall to wall carpeting are cleanable (or at least can be vastly improved upon) and it can be done with combinations of standard household cleaners (i.e. no toxic solvents or potentially cancer causing agents.) I think you all know this but you need to know that your customers are getting smarter. We know this because we got down on our hands and knees, and have done it now on 3 different homes. Yes, it does require more attention than just "wanding" a room but that's what we customers are paying for! ... and it is less work if you have invested in a long handled brushes and a crevice wand attachment for your extraction machine. If it wasn't work or required no special tools, then we could do it ourselves! So when someone asks, "Do you do edge filtration cleaning?" or "What is your price for *complete* carpet cleaning?", here are the acceptable and unacceptable answers if you want to come across as a credible wall-to-wall carpet cleaning business: UNACCEPTABLE (all of these sound like excuses): - Nothing can be done for filtration staining. (Wrong) - We do edges but not filtration stains. (Then you don't do edges.) - There are actually no detergents on the market specifically for edge filtration. (Wrong. There are several and, even if there wasn't, you can make your own out of common cleaners) - Filtration cleaning can only be done with very caustic or acidic cleansers. (Wrong.) - Filtration cleaning requires dangerous solvents. (Wrong.) - Filtration stain cleaning damages baseboards. (Wrong. Even if the baseboards are the "compressed fiber" type you have to be pretty reckless with water/extraction before this would ever become a concern. ...and if you are that reckless with water/extraction then your whole practice should be suspect.) - We know what filtration cleaning requires and we just not interested in pursuing this business. (Points for honesty?) ACCEPTABLE: - Filtration stains can be cleaned and this is definitely part of our business. - We have done it many times and by no means do we shy away from it. - In fact, we have special tools for this and this is what we use: wands, agitators, etc. - Our prices actually assume that you want *complete* cleaning for your rooms which includes cleaning the edges. - Edge stains may not come out perfect but they can usually be vastly improved upon (which is pretty much like everything in the carpet cleaning business). - We do have special cleaners specifically for this and/or we can make up our own which works well. They are not caustic nor dangerous. - Baseboards won't be an issue but we may check and see if material could be more sensitive to where we may take extra caution with water spray/extraction. - Here is our *complete* carpet cleaning price which includes edge cleaning. - Here is our *incomplete* carpet cleaning price which does not include edge cleaning. Just letting you know that next time I call around to get quotes on my carpet cleaning, the one that come closest to the above gets my business then and for the future. read more

Most recently we needed 4 bedrooms and a long hallway of wall-to-wall carpeting cleaned in anticipation of putting the home on the market, so we really wanted it looking great. The carpet was about 10 years old and had a lot of wear and tear from a heavy-duty electric wheelchair. Alex let us know exactly when he'd arrive and was patient with my lateness meeting him there. I needed a piece of carpet cut and edged to replace a soiled carpet that was custom made for my motorhome kitchen. I called and the were very helpful about my options. So I cut a piece of new left over carpet I had in the basement and then marked the outline from the old carpet. I brought it in, the said they would email me when done and about 5 days later I got the email. I picked it up and found they did a great job. It looks much better than the original that I replaced. I love these guys. There's a reason they've been in business in Seattle since the dawn of time. I arrived home on Monday afternoon to discover that my dog, whom I had previously relegated to the teenage-infested den sofa, was on the losing end of a battle with a rawhide bone the size of Texas. The net result of the showdown was a bloody nose, which he then used as a paintbrush--all over my nice, new, tan, ultra-suede living room chair! Oh. Hell. No. I called DA Burns, who told me to bring the chair in right away, which I did. Sean and Jericho dropped what they were doing, while Sean took the cushion in back to spot test it. Sure enough, the blood came out. I left them with a crime scene. Four days later, I picked up a brand new chair! Seriously folks. The grout in my bathroom had gotten so grimy over the years, which was shocking to me since we have a cleaning service come weekly and I know she washes it. Not only was Jason was able to clean the and reseal the grout, he showed me how to keep it looking brand new. He made sure that my pets were safe, he was kind and accommodating and he was careful in my space. He had to work very hard to get the grout clean and I was completely blown away by the results. I am updating my review because of the way that I was treated after the management got involved. They initially received three stars I received a phone call based on my review. The manager called me was very apologetic assured me that this is not the normal way things are handled. I told him I was surprised that a certified letter went out before a phone call occured. He agreed. He researched my invoice and realized that they dropped the ball that it never got filed. He even offered to send it through an advanced cleaning service which was going that extra mile. We are all human and mistakes can be made. I get that but all I was looking for was a phone call. He heard my complaints none of which had to do with price it all had to do with how my service request was handled from the first time I dropped it off. I called to request cleaning for stair carpet, a small amount of heavily soiled traffic areas, and a contemporary wool area rug. Over the phone I was told that they might not be able to clean the rug at my house, but the technician would evaluate the rug and let me know if he could clean it on site, or if it would need to go into the facility for cleaning. This company is using heavy duty equipment and I was amazed how well our nasty stains were cleaned up! We had some serious challenges for the technician, and he did really well! This business is as good as it gets! Two great guys picked up my three hand knotted rugs and sofa with no problems finding my address (a bit tricky). When they were returned by two different great guys, I could not believe my eyes!! I thought the rugs were faded by UV, but NO! The original colors were completely restored. DA Burns isn't really good with Da Schedule. These guys seemed like the most professional carpet cleaners out there. The others I called seemed more like one person with a truck. One of them even started going off on a tirade about the TSA when I mentioned I was going out of town (I kid you not). Sadly, they can't really give you any scheduled time except for a day. I mean, they can't even nail it down to a morning or afternoon. I can have a house sitter come in a certain time and stay for a few hours, but it's not reasonable for me to expect someone to give up their whole day to wait for a call. Their reasoning for this is that only so many people can fit in an morning or afternoon. Sorry, but you've got to be able to figure things out better than that. It's not a big request to ask for the afternoon of 2 Wednesdays from now. You can book things accordingly. read more

The did an excellent job at a good price. They have a good operation. Then ............. much later I needed a copy of the receipt and Toni was totally nice and researched, found the old receipt and emailed it to me. Just had a great experience with D.A. Burns! They called about an hour before arrival to confirm, and then showed up promptly. Jayson was extremely friendly and did an awesome job on our disgusting basement stairs and lower level Berber carpeting. He wore shoe protectors and was careful about not damaging any of our hardwood floors and treading as lightly in our house as possible. He was so easy-going and hardworking, it was honestly no bother at all having him in the house as we went about our morning business. I'm really happy to have found a carpet cleaner that does such a stellar job. I'm going to take a large carpet remnant in to get an estimate on binding it to use as a rug. Wish I'd known about them before, but live and learn. Our carpet looks "sale" ready now, which is why we got our carpets professionally cleaned. One month ago I scheduled carpet cleaning for my condo, to follow some window glass work. I had an appointment for yesterday. I called to confirm the appointment. The condo was prepped and ready for them. Waited all day and no one showed up so I called the office and was given some excuses but they said they would be out this morning. Guess what? No show again. I called the office and was again told we were on the schedule. By 6 pm, no show. This is unbelievably bad customer service from a company we have used for our oriental carpets and home carpet cleaning for years. I cannot recommend them ever again. Don't know what's up, but two lost days and still carpets need cleaning. read more
