Probably the smoothest and softest gelato I've ever tried yet and I've been to Italy! The hazelnut was the better flavor for me, but I'm glad I tried both. I was so excited to enjoy some gelato after dinner around the area and came in here on a rainy evening. Wasn't greeted at all by the very displeased young man who was running the shop. Tried making niceties with the young man who clearly didn't want to The there only to have one word responses back. the final kicker was that for a barely filled small cup of gelato (please see latest photo posted) which came to a whopping $7.70!!!!! with tax and tip (opted for $2 tip even with the terrible service). I could have gotten so much more bang for my buck at any of the ice creameries in the few blocks nearby. I am still reeling at how much this teeny tiny cup was and how little gelato I got. I am super disappointed with my latest experience. I really can't believe how little the cup was filled and he literally scraped any dome that was on the cup back into the tub. Seriously there were air pockets in the cup too that I almost went back to see if they'd give a smidge more but I was mostly scared to interact with that young man again. This gelato spot is located in the heart of downtown Ballard, amongst a lot of the restaurants. I sampled a few flavors here including the baseline Fior di Latte to gauge on the quality of the gelato, and the gelato overall is fairly solid. I am a fan of their very smooth, velvety texture of all the gelato flavors, including pistachio. For $6.50+tax, the small is a modest size for an individual to enjoy a serving of gelato. However, when comparing pictures of the past, I felt I got a bit shortchanged with the portion sizes as the pictures indicate the gelato filling way over the cup. Also, the pistachio was not as fragrant as I hoped, and it was a bit more green-ish color meaning they might have added a hint of food coloring rather than the natural off white / very faint green color. While the gelato texture warrants a 5 star review, these two things knocked off 2 half stars (1 star) for me. read more

As we entered I noticed the seating is limited but perfect for this clean and cozy shop. On a side note, I really liked Service was polite, and the display of ice cream was very unique, as it's actually prepared right in front of you. So as you look down you can see the ice cream churning in their respective flavors which was really cool. You can get free samples just so you know you're getting exactly what you want. I only have one complaint: My husband ordered affogato, and it was prepared a little bit differently from what I'd seen done in the past. What this server did was put the ice cream in and brew the coffee on top of it and add a cookie before serving. The way that I'd seen it done previously is that the ice cream and the espresso are prepared separately, so you can pour the espresso on top of it when you're ready to eat it, instead of receiving a messy soup of deliciousness. I've also seen it served in glass dishes (because it's really beautiful when done correctly), but this was served in a paper cup. I would recommend that the servers prepare it the original way for aesthetics & so the customer can enjoy it longer. Otherwise, I tried a little bit of what he got and it was delicious. If you're on the boring end like me, I absolutely recommend the vanilla bourbon ice cream in a waffle cone. You'll enjoy it! Flavors are more limited than they were 3 years ago, however, I actually like a limited selection because that means that they spend more time developing the flavors that you get to choose from. The person behind the counter was super friendly and answered all my questions and gave me a few samples when I asked. I tried the Ricotta and dried fruit flavor which had sounded really interesting it; it was actually rather mild and boring. Nothing really special about it. I thought it would be like froyo with a hint of pannetone / that dried fruit flavor you associate with the holidays, but nope. The blackberry lavender was floral but not very balance with acid, which I had expected given the berries. The blackberry flavor was very light though. I also tried the whiskey cream which was nicely boozy but well balanced. The espresso was also really good and the two combined in a cup was lovely. The pistachio was very good. I wish I'd tried the salted caramel, but there is only so much space in my stomach. Prices were reasonable for the portion size. I always have to get pistachio as one of my choices because it is my all time favorite gelato flavor and their version is spectacular. But the flavor my husband tried today was also amazing! Cocoa bean, wafers, and hazelnuts (otherwise known as Ferrero Rocher?). It was sensational! My mother is from Sweden and I grew up eating European chocolates - especially chocolates with hazelnuts. I've had D'Ambrosio Gelato on several occasions and it's a cute gelato shop that offers a variety of flavors.They always have new flavors each time I come in so I usually try different flavor each time . In the past I've had the tiramisu and the coffee flavor and both were delightful although I thought the tiramisu was slightly too sweet for my liking. Tonight I came in and got the Hawaiian hazelnut and it was perfect! It had the right amount of sweetness and even had little hazelnut chunks which gave it the perfect texture. I find that the kid scoop is more than enough for me and you can sample flavors before you commit to a flavor(s). Their waffle cone is pretty standard and I usually end up caving and getting it because everyone knows a waffle cone makes gelato taste 10x better. Tonight service was amazing and the workers were really friendly and helpful but in the past, I've had instances where the workers weren't as nice, so service can be a hit or miss at times here. Oh My Yum! Came across this little wonder of a shop this afternoon while strolling trough Ballard. We're a sucker for handmade gelato and had some totally delicious concoctions. My wife had Caramel & Fig and Pistachio together, while I had Salted Caramel & Chocolate Sorbet. Both were great combinations. We wouldn't think at first that Caramel and figs go together, but it works. I do have to say though that in the same bite, you need more of the salted caramel than the chocolate as the latter is super rich and will overpower other flavors. I loved the chocolate though...tasted like a frozen spoonful of brownie dough! On a second visit we tried some other flavors that were equally delicious. My wife had the combination of Strawberry Ricotta & Hazelnut; while I had Mixed Berry & Cream and Chocolate. My oh my, they were good. Hello gelato in Ballard! After having a mediocre experience at a gelato place yesterday, I decided to make my way to D'ambrosia since the reviews seemed like it was a phenomenal gelato place. In hopes to make my gelato moment shine, I made my way here. It was around 11 pm when I got here, just a few people enjoying their gelato. I came in and noticed how many flavors they had to offer. There were so many more compared to yesterday's gelato place that I didn't even know where to begin when it came to trying the flavors out. The first three that caught my eye to try were caramel and nut, crunchy biscotti and peanut butter cup. Amazingly, my boyfriend said he was thinking the exact same thing (must be fate, right?) There are quite a few flavors to try, including some sorbets as well. So I tried caramel and nut first and I was surprised at how fast it melted in my mouth. I'm used to gelato that is rich, thick and creamy and stays in it's shape for a while. This gelato had the same richness and creaminess, but the texture and the way it melted was literally like ice cream. However, the caramel one had great flavor. The best flavor definitely would have to be the biscotti though. That was just downright, almond flavor goodness. And the peanut butter cup had a very strong peanut flavor to it. It had been a long day of studying. Finals are coming up and all I did was sit in my room and study. I decided I truly deserved a treat. So my boyfriend and I decided to get a large which means 1-4 flavors AND a free waffle cone! Waffle cones are normally 1$ for any other size. We chose the three flavors we tried and I also decided to get chocolate orange without trying it. I figured it would be good, and plus, I'm a chocolate lover! So the worker quickly put it in a cone and then topped it with a cute little cone piece and handed it to us. It was about $6.50 or so, so a pretty decent price for a hefty amount of gelato. I'm taking off a star for two reasons though, texture and service. As explained earlier, the gelato melts really fast and I missed that thickness that gelato normally has. There were two workers there and I don't blame them that they weren't so cheery. It was 11 pm and almost time for closing - probably a long day for them. However, they didn't really smile and I was almost intimidated to try more than three flavors. Also, she didn't give us any spoons with our gelato. I think she assumed we would just lick it like ice cream since it was in a cone. However, I'm normally used to eating gelato with those cute shovel spoons. We had to get up and ask for two spoons which she did gladly give us. We sat on the stools and enjoyed the gelato. The chocolate orange was very rich. If you're a dark chocolate lover and like a bit of bitterness, this is definitely for you. Overall, crunchy biscotti, you are so worth it. Conveniently located in the hip and trendy Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, "D'Ambrosio Gelato" was an easy find. I come here with my fiancée on an unusually warm September evening around 8pm. And the perfect remedy to this was some cold gelato to indulge in. Parking was actually easy to find as we snatched up a spot literally across the street. And with many shops, restaurants, and taverns open for business, this was a warm welcome for us. Once we entered, it was crowded as what we had expected. But the lines moved very swiftly. I was able to sample many different tasting gelatos including their popular pistachio, tiramisu´, Nutella, Madagascar vanilla, and chocolate chip. However, I finally settled with 1/2 espresso and 1/2 sea salt-caramel. The price for a small cup was $3.95 which was fairly reasonable for the amount of gelato they load in the cup. The espresso part of my gelato was heavenly and creamy while it had that unique coffee bean flavor. The sea salt-caramel even had excellent texture as it provided the perfect balance of sweet and salty in every bite. I also sampled a few bites of my fiancées gelato (which was a creamy strawberry flavor) and that was also on point. It had fresh glazed amount of bright red strawberries embedded in each bite. Now I've been to my share of gelato establishments, mainly in San Francisco, New York, and Chicago. And I've got to say, this texture, flavor, and overall taste that I experienced here ranks up there as one of the best places I've been to. Everything is made fresh daily; from the organic milk to the local fruits and nuts, it raises the bar for unsurpassed quality. And best of all, they use absolutely no corn syrup, no artificial colors/flavors, and no preservatives. "D'Ambrosio Gelato" also offers two other locations, one in Capitol Hill and the other out in Bellevue. All in all, this place was truly a great find! They are generous with their samples. My BF tried 4 flavors before deciding on cafe and panna cotta. I always get pistachio and the second flavor always varies depending on my mood.
