Wife thought her omelette was more like a wrap with too much filling inside (with the egg being the wrap), but after taking some filling out said it was good. I ordered a make your own omelette and there was barely any egg and it was not cook. All of the ham and mushrooms in my omelette where in the front spilling out. I had broccoli in it to and all of my broccoli was in the back. It tasted disgusting I would never recommend this place it was so gross the only good thing was the toast. read more

bad service, i waited 45+ mins for my food, the waitress gave me attitude, and when one of my children spilt a drink one of the waitresses began to yell at my child for "not paying attention", my kid is 6 and a half years old and simply made a mistake. i would never go there again for that reason, another reason is that my corn beef hash had a large amount of fat, and my hash was mostly burnt to a crisp. read more

This place has excellent food. Our food came in a very timely manner. The corned beef hash is made with fresh corned beef, not processed corned beef!!! Best hash ever. The ham is clearly cut from a full ham. Not frozen slabs. The staff is informative and very pleasant along with quick service. All in all a wonderful experience. I will be coming here frequently. So, now that I have been here a few times. My opinion remains the same. Absolutely wonderful people and place. The owner is right at the register and makes sure that you are well taken care of when you come in to the restaurant. THE FOOD AND PORTIONS ARE AMAZING. You must try this place. read more

First off....parking is subpar. Inside the atmosphere was bright and clean! The quality of food is mediocre at best. Our food has either been wrong or cold and the waitstaff should be more attentive. Taste of the food is bland and the omelets are over cooked and dry. There are many other breakfast joints in the area that offer a much tastier option. read more

Within the last year, I began working a job near the Westfield/Southwick line, an area I have never before explored. Several of my coworkers had suggested the Hash House as a must try breakfast/lunch spot and it has been on my list of places to try for months. I can not believe I waited so long! The place is awesome, great corned beef hash, pancakes, hash-browns, and pretty good coffee too. I have been there several times in the past month now and honestly consider a stop in almost every morning when I get out of work (less than a mile away) The staff has always been friendly and accommodating, and the prices are nothing to complain about! Great local breakfast eatery! I highly recommend it and I will definitely be coming back and recommending it to friends into the future! :) Update: 6/20/16 I still totally dig this place. Tried a burger today because there were some raves here on Yelp and I decided to give one a whirl. Not disappointed! Onion rings are the skinny shoestring type (onion strings if you will, lol) and they were pretty tasty. Great big portion, I have a massive capacity for delicious food in my gut and I gotta say this dish beat me to my limit! I can't say that happens too often in restaurants. So the "Hash House Patty" is made of beef and chopped bacon and the toppings I ordered all came out all fresh and good quality (i.e. Tomatoes, lettuce, onion, pickle) they offer pretzel buns but unfortunately they ran out today so I got a Bulkie roll instead which was very fresh, and lightly toasted. I recommend getting a side of their "hash house sauce" to dip your onion strings in, it wasn't what I expected. It was better. It stars out with a unique, yet familiar flavor and proves to be a quite pleasant and polite /flavor sensation journey, right before it sneaks up behind you when you least expect it and gives you a cute little kick in the ss as a finale. It's a big enough little spark to scare you into thinking "oh man! what have I done!?!" before it's like "oh just kidding, j/k lolz!" and the heat fizzles out as quickly as it crept in leaving you wanting another taste experience that keeps you hooked. Six people in our party and five of the six breakfast meals were great. One of the omelets came out cold and had to be redone.

It is a shame that some people haven't had good experiences here because I always have. Maybe I am just lucky but I genuinely enjoy the food and the atmosphere! I have been here over 10 times and haven't had a bad meal. It is a shame that there isn't just one review site because other site such as Trip Advisor give this place a 4 star rating. Stopped here for breakfast this morning Around 10am and the place was pretty busy, only two waitress for the entire dining floor and they were trying their best to keep up..the kitchen however, was clearly struggling. The veggies in my omelet were not cooked, not even a little, they were hard and not even warm, my daughters pancakes were very under cooked, she took a few bites and pushed her plate away. Really wish I just went up the road to the Dunkin's and grabbed a coffee & bagel. :-( read more

Went here on Labor Day morning, waited 45 minutes for on omelette and when received it was the wrong omelette, waitress never came back to refill coffee or ask how food was so needless to say, I ate an omelette I did not order and did not want. i had breakfast there yesterday and everything was great. We got a very warm welcome as we entered and had great service throughout. The menu and specials were are intriguing and the buttermilk pancakes, eggs and home fires were fantastic! And to top it off, the prices are fantastic, especially for the amount of food the give you. Delicious food at reasonable prices friendly efficient service and free parking! Enormous portions on the delicious onion rings shoestring style. You won't be able to finish your meal so be sure to ask for a Styrofoam container. The hamburgers are also very large. Delicious desserts are offered but you won't be able to eat one if you finish your meal! read more

I went to Hash House Sunday morning with my boyfriend. The service was good... Friendly staff, clean restaurant. The coffee was good. Now for the bad... the food. I ordered the Benedict Florentine. It was literally so gross I could not finish eating my food. The English muffin was soggy, the spinach and clearly not been cooked properly, tomatoes were watery, poached eggs were overcooked, and the hollandaise sauce tasted like it was from a can. I thought with the name "hash house" their hashbrowns might be good... They weren't. They were soggy. And they had a weird taste to them. Bacon was overcooked. My boyfriend had a chicken fried steak... The gravy was yellow. Not sure how white gravy was yellow. I guess this experience confirmed that I am truly a food snob, but I can usually at least finish my meal if the food is subpar. But I couldn't. In hindsight, maybe pancakes and French toast and easy entrees you really can't screw up would have been a better choice at a place like that. read more

I've been going to D&J's periodically since it opened in May 2013, and I have to say it has only gotten better. My last visit was in December, and it was our best visit yet! The specials are always great, I had the breakfast bowl the other day and it was fantastic. I can see why people think that they are sometimes overstaffed, as it does sometimes seem that there are too many people standing around. I know this is one of the problems they are working on though. I talked to one of the owners recently, and he said it has a lot to do with the unpredictability of the weekends. Whenever I've gone during the week, I've never seen this problem. I think the best part of D&J's is that they are constantly trying to make things better, and the family who owns it truly cares about their customers. When I was there the other day, one of the waitresses was letting a little girl pick a toy from the Christmas tree. It seems like they often go out of their way to make sure everyone is happy. I see a few negative reviews, and all I can say is to give it another shot! Maybe try a different day. If you still have a problem, bring it up to one of the owners! They're all very kind and understanding, and I'm sure they appreciate the constructive criticism. After all, it is still a NEW restaurant - it takes time to get these things down. read more

I am not entirely sure why this restaurant has pretty low reviews, but I think this place is absolutely delicious. I ordered coffee (which was not burnt, and had a great taste), a ham and cheese omelette with home fries and white toast. The ham and cheese omelette was made with REAL eggs, and the ham tasted like a nice glazed ham that you would have after Easter! It was phenomenal! The home fries were made with REAL potatoes and a lot of them! Also, the toast wasn't absolutely layered in butter to the point of being soggy, they put the perfect amount of butter on. The service was wonderful, and the restaurant was packed when we got there, and we still managed to get all of our order in a timely manner. Overall, this was a great place to get breakfast at and I will DEFINITELY be going back. read more

We've been interested in trying this place since it opened, but being a family of 5 we never seem to have the money. We had about an hour and a half to kill before one of my children's soccer game last weekend and decided, 'What the hell.....let's go to breakfast!' We've been in the building when it was home to other restaurants and WHAT A CHANGE!! D & J's Hash House is so clean, with great lighting and lots of room. When we first arrived we were one of the only occupied tables there, but that didn't last long. By the time we left it was packed!! The waitress was awesome! Friendly, engaging and wonderful with my kids. It seems family owned and that really appealed to us, as well. One man, who seemed like an owner, was helping deliver food and bus tables!! It was great to see such teamwork! The coffee was fresh, piping hot and served immediately with hot cocoa for the kids served the same. When we ordered our food the waitress noticed that we had ordered one pancake with a side of bacon for each of my two children and when we were delivered our food she told us that she had charged us for a two pancake with bacon meal and split it between the kids to save us money!! Can't beat that service on a tight budget! Our food got to our table in record time and everything was delicious. The scrambled eggs were the silkiest eggs I've ever had and, as an avid bacon lover, the thick cut bacon was enough to feed a small army, cooked to perfection and AMAZING! One of my children, who never finishes a meal, cleaned their plate. The hubby, who had the hash omelet, was thrilled with his choice (this I know from the in between bite praises). One of my other children insisted on packing up the left over bacon to bring home and, actually, walked out to the car still munching on a strip! We finished and paid with plenty of time to get to the soccer game and left genuinely happy with our decision to stop for a meal.....which doesn't always happen. On top of all of that, it was beyond affordable so after YEARS of only going out a couple of times a year, we're planning on making this a much more common family treat! I don't know what these other people are talking about....I guess some people just need to complain....because we had one of the best dining out experiences we've ever had as a family. I really expected more out of this place. We were seated in a table shoved between another table and the host. My lovely lady had to take a specific seat because there was no way I was fitting (I'm average build). The waitress came to the table a total of three times - to take the order, drop off the food, and drop off the check. The hashbrowns were not hashbrowns, but rather microwaved shredded potatoes. My omelet had HAIRS in it - by the time I realized this I had already eaten the hashbrowns and toast. Not a single hair but two coarse black hairs. No one came to replace it because the waitress simply did not come back to the table. She seemed to like the hash, but I cannot attest to that as I never had an opportunity to try it. After having dropped off the check, I informed the waitress who then announced that there was hair in more food, as if it was common. While they removed my omelette the check was still $20 for a wasted breakfast, they didn't offer to remake it or correct it. Apparently announcing it and embarrassing a patron was proper etiquette. Ultimately it's not the money that matters for good food, but from what I actually tried it wasn't worth more than a few dollars. Such a shame. read more

Was visiting family and they took us here and WOW! Everything was great. I particularly loved my pancakes that were extremely fluffy and the syrup was also great. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned. My fiancé loves a good Benedict and hasn't shut up about them since going! can't wait to go visit family again just to stop in here for some morning delight. My wife and I have been going at least 5-6 times a week for breakfast. At first it was very nice and then the slide came. They were out of things, mistakes on orders. I had an order with wheat toast. I had one slice of wheat and one of rye. The father is only their on some weekends and the kids forget it. No management or supervision. Our last visit I ordered an omelet. It came ice cold.. I took a few bites to see if the inside was warm, it wasn't. The waitress came and agreed and took it back to the kitchen. It came back on the same plate and was just put in a microwave. Have you ever had a microwave omelet? AWFUL! No one said they were sorry or anything. We were charged for the meal.I could of had that at a fast food place. read more
