I was truly really excited to come to this place. I was told by so many people that this was the best Italian restaurant in Bellingham. I was impressed overall with the quality of food I got. Hard to beat fresh pasta. We were served complimentary salad and bread before the meal. For the main dish we got the linguini with fresh clams and sausage manicotti. Clams tasted very fresh, but the broth/ seasonings was a little watered down. Not easily seen in the picture, but there was a lot of broth on the bottom and I feel like it took away from the flavor for the pasta. Service was impressive. Our waitress was able to memorize my large parties orders without writing anything down! Pretty cool. My expectations of this place were pretty high. My disappointment (and I feel like that is a big one) is we found two large pieces of hair in the sausage manicotti. A little off putting... I'd be willing to give another try with all the positive reviews and see if my next experience is different. read more

The ambiance has a 1930's, no nonsense vibe that screams authenticity. We moved here from New York 25 years ago and I have missed finding good Italian cooking anywhere. My Italian grandmother (one of 13 siblings) was born in 1898. I remember her and 3 sisters preparing family dinners chattering away in Italian. Delicious aromas wafting ------ D'Anna's brought me back to that place. No breadsticks here .. fresh homemade focicia bread with cheese and fresh basil served with the salad. The pasta is homemade as well. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan was not disappointed. Perfectly prepared and flavored. D'Anna's is a community treasure. This is my brother's favorite restaurant in Bellingham so we go here at least once or twice a year. It's good Italian food with friendly staff and a warm and casual atmosphere. I am a big pasta eater and have enjoyed most of their house made pasta dishes. In addition to their signature pasta dishes, they have a selection of house made pastas to combine with different sauces. I get the lasagna or pappardelle with meat sauce. My brother loves the agility e olio. The scampi and calamari appetizers are both very good. I had a couple of delicious bourbon and blood orange cocktails, and that's all I remember! read more

The staff here is incredible. Best in town by far. The food is always delicious, fresh, and cooked perfectly. Simple, and done right! The best Italian restaurant in Whatcom County. Holy buckets this place is a dream if you crave innovative Italian food. Homemade pasta, bread, desserts. My current favorite is the gnocchi with pancetta. Tender, melt in your mouth potato dumplings that will have you dreaming of dining in a chic Italian cafe. The wait staff is knowledgeable and can guide your food choices if you have dietary restrictions. They take reservations only for parties of seven or more people. If you are looking for excellent Italian food this is the place. Homemade pasta and blended meats and sausage, attention to detail, excellent service, fantastic appetizers: it is all there. Our party of 7 started with appetizers of bruschetta, Ravioli sampler and the Tapenade for our Vegans. I recommend doing this while you try to figure out which of the main dishes you will order because they all sound great. When the main courses arrived every dish was cooked to perfection. The chicken piccata was moist and tender, the sausage ravioli was delicious, the butternut squash--holy cow was that good. Chicken mushroom fettuccine, gnocchi, eggplant Parmesan and the Puttanesca were amazing. Their drinks selection was solid and bolstered by excellent specials. We brought a cake for a birthday and the waitress brought extra plates and forks for us. Did I mention that the service was smooth and friendly. Always there when needed, friendly but not intrusive. The prices may seem high--main dishes all hover around $30--but I never regret paying for a high quality Italian food experience. The setting is spread out enough for privacy. They could pack more tables in but they didn't. We went in on a Monday around 6:30. You need to make reservations if you have 7 or more so they can arrange table space. Bottom line: I cannot recall an Italian restaurant with food as good as this across the menu. Impressive! read more

The atmosphere of D'Anna's isn't what I would call romantic, but more like a slightly upscale family reataurant. It's not to say this isn't a date-worthy place, but it lacks that feeling of intimacy at each table. The pricing is a little higher than what I would expect for the quality of the dishes, but it isn't too much of a stretch. I will say that the desserts are reasonably priced and excellent, so definitely check them out (if you've got the room left after dinner!). The service is decent and although there was a big dinner rush, we still got our meal in a decent amount of time. So, I'd say D'Anna's is a mid-tier place for Italian in Bellingham. There's certainly better places than this, but it can really hit the spot sometimes. read more

They took the covered/heated back patio down, and now offer outdoor seating on the sidewalk adjacent to the road. While you sit outside and watch the cars drive by, when the wind blows tree debris falls down on your food and into your drink. They changed their menu too and got rid of my favorite dish and replaced it with a similar dish minus most of the delicious seafood. Additionally one of the listed items of the dish was missing entirely from my meal..? Prices went up and serving size went down. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Bellingham, but unfortunately I won't be returning. I feel like this is how an Italian family restaurant should look and feel like. We were greeted by really friendly greeter and shown to our table. The place wasn't really that busy (Sunday early evening) and our casually dressed server came to us immediately and help us with our order. He even suggested items in the menus to save us about $20 for nearly the same thing. He was pleasant but very profesional. I ordered their Lamb and it was delicious. Although two out of four chops were not medium rare like we agreed on but more on the medium well side. But it was very good anyway. My wife ordered Seafood Sauté and that was good as well. I saw the scallops in the sauté. They looked like they were blacked first before they were sautéed so I thought they may be over cooked. BUT they weren't. They were cooked to perfection. We nearly ran late for our evening entertainment afterwards. The food was nothing special, but to be honest Italian is easy to make for most chefs, at least in my opinion. Atmosphere is fun despite the Covid era!! Wait staff so patient we walked in30 mins to closing and they still Seared us with joy and waited on us as if they just opened!! Tiramisu was way overhyped by other reviewers. It was ok, though a bit too soggy in parts for my taste. The chicken parm was a little dry, but the eggplant parm was ok. The ravioli didn't have enough filling and the topping overpowered the filling. The gnocchi was the highlight. The side salad and pizza thing (?) were good starters. The folks at D'anna's are friendly and there service is good. Unfortunately, the food is not good enough for the price. I had the $20 lasagne which tasted too much of tomato paste and to little of the meat and cheese that goes into great lasagnes. I also had their Manhatten Baby which was quite good. read more

The atmosphere is super warm. Staff is really nice. I always get the chicken parmesan with garlic noodles, it's chef kiss. I do appreciate our waitress telling us that they charge a gratuity tip before giving us our checks (I've been to restaurants where they haven't and it was surprising) for tables with 6 or more. We made a quick stop in Bellingham for dinner on our way to Canada, and man the gnocchi was gooood. Waiter was nice and offered me to do half spinach gnocchi half potato. I did like the potato gnocchi better because the texture almost melted in my mouth, spinach one was a bit more firm. My boyfriend ordered the butternut squash ravioli, which both dishes were home made. We also had a side of spicy homemade sausage, which the herbs on top complemented the sausage. read more

Had an amazing meal with my girlfriend, she had clam pasta and I had pesto gnocchi with sausage. They custom made my meal as what I asked for was not on the menu. Very tasty and exactly what I was hoping for. Fast & helpful service, overall exceeding our expectations. Only taking off one star because my girlfriend and I felt pretty sick and I ended up throwing up walking back to our home which is a 5 minute walk back. We're both in shape and healthy. It could have been from the smoke, but maybe not? Not sure if it was something we ate in the clams or just inhaling smoke when we were on the patio. Probably will return. read more
