What a charming place for lunch. Carmen can recite the entire menu, soups and desserts included. The food items include a number of hoagies and philly cheese items and a special lettuce. While this is interesting, there was a lot of it. The philly steak could be improved with a trip to philly and a bit of exploration of opportunity. Other wise, we enjoyed the food. In fact, we did bring a huge take home, which is a problem when traveling. This local resturaunt group has a bunch of variations, and everything is local. We did not have any pies, but they have a fabulous selection of pies made in house (down the street in their bakery). They deserve a number of return visits to gauge what they have. But a drive to Cumberland is several hours. Eat well, tip well. read more

Our favorite casual place to eat in Lavale. We're always seated fairly quickly. Yummy chocolate and vanilla cokes... fresh baked bread with homemade soups... and delicious italian food. Super reasonable prices. Polite, hard working servers who really try to please. (Only one bad server in 20 years) Salmon cakes, to DIE for! Stay awesome please. We stopped in on our drive cross country and it was the only place along that stretch of road that wasn't a mass food-chain. NOTE: you can order to-go at a different counter in the back (with it's own door) separate from the dine-in counter and it's very fast. The dine-in area was just overflowing with people waiting to be sat, I get the feeling it's a very adored business in the neighborhood. We ordered a large sub to go thinking we'd be able to nosh it while driving but let me tell you, this thing is no joke. There was no way to split this and hand it to my driving boyfriend so we did what we could but as for the sandwich - it was gooood. If there is one place you should go if you are in the Cumber-LaVale-Frostburg area it's this place. First and foremost - the atmosphere is very down-home so if you are looking for a 5-star actual table-clothed joint, this isn't for you. I would highly recommend calling for a reservation on a Friday and Saturday night. The Italian side of the restaurant is very good. Pastas are great, great portions! As a local favorite while growing up, I'm sad to say I was disappointed by the service here on my recent trip home. The food was pretty good still, which saved this visit. It's hard to go wrong with the cheesesteak subs here. It was cramped (not with people, just so many tables), dirty and about 90 degrees upstairs. Our table had mayo or something smeared all over it and was set on top of that. It took 10 minutes to see a waitress and another 10 to get drinks.. I also had food spilled on me twice. When visiting a new town or trying new places I rely on yelp to point me to new places and foods to try and I'm glad I found this place because this is probably now my favorite restaurant in the area. Great and fast service even though it was pretty packed. I ordered the chicken and spinach lasagna, husband had lasagna and kids had spaghetti with meatballs, we also had an order of Mac n cheeses and a cup of chili and beside the main course orders being quite generous everything was delicious! We also had to get a couple of to go boxes since we couldn't finish our food but we were more than happy about that. It's quite big in there and they have an upstairs seating area as well. Just tried to order food to go and asked for deconstructed steak sandwich's as we don't want the buns to be all soggy because we still have a 2 hour drive home. They refused to make the sandwiches stating it changes the taste. WTH I AM ASKING YOU TO DO IT. Tried to support a business during these difficult times, must not be hurting if your turning away business. We always try to eat here when we are near, NEVER AGAIN, WE WONT BE BACK. We generally eat at D'Atri's when shopping in LaVale. Probably 2 to 3 times a month. We were seated promptly and drink order taken. I ordered hot chocolate not realizing it was from an envelope and no whipped cream. Our order came. Asked if the heat could be raised. Waitresses laughed and said it cold out. I know that. I live on the top of mountain. We sat and ate with our jackets on. We weren't the only ones. Since about 85% of the customers were seniors, they (we) were cold. We left. This is the BEST Stake sandwich every! I would put this up against any other from any place. The bread is homemade, the lettuce is diced thin but not to thin and the dressing & herbs combine for an unbelievable topping. The tomato's are sliced just right. The Parmesan cheese slices are on the bottom covered in miracle whip dressing. The stake is chopped thin, mixed with the onions and papers. If it sound good, it tastes 100% better. If you are a soda drinker the Vanilla Coke is a do not miss. The service is good and the food come out in a very timely manner. All the desserts are homemade. May have been a 5 star, but no beer or wine served!! How can an Italian restaurant not serve wine!!?? House salad was mostly iceberg lettuce, but did have a really nice Italian style dressing. The hommade Manicotti was gooey with cheese and sauce,, it was delicious, would recommend. Ordered a side of garlic bread, pretty much 2 sides of about a 9" loaf, just crispy enough and great taste as well. Ordered a side of meatballs to go with the Manicotti, they were ok, but not up to lar with the Manicotti. The garlic bread could have been the free side, but I wanted a salad as well. Dont make that mistake, skip the salad and order the garlic bread as your side. Had a soccer game at FSU for my son. Stopped here due to a recommendation from a friend. Great family feel, short wait, good service. We ordered the cheesesteak subs. The lettuce was seasoned, the beef was wonderful, and the mayo was sweet. It tasted like it was homemade. Great experience, but a little pricey as it was $40 + tip for 2 people for 2 cheesesteaks, a small salad with salmon, and 2 drinks. No sides with the sandwiches either, but they were big. As a road warrior we rely on Yelp reviews when we travel so I'm going to honest about this restaurant. First, it's within walking distance of the Holiday Inn Express, so that's a plus. We arrived close to 7 pm and discovered they do not serve wine. The entrees we ordered were ample and my eggplant parmigiana was good. My husband liked his sausage and pasta, so that's three stars there. We must have been there close to closing time because one of the staff started sweeping the carpet nearby. Not exactly appetizing. I was smart enough to call in my carry out order ahead of time, but not smart enough to realize that there was a separate entrance for carry out orders. No worries, I did not wait long. I had the smoked turkey hoagie along with a brownie with chocolate icing. The hoagie was fresh tasting and the bread was soft. I liked the extra touch that the pickled peppers and the seasoned salad imparted, but was not completely bowled over like others. The brownie was very fudge-y and I can see how some would like it. Too sweet for me, and my husband, who I had bought it for, did not finish it. I like it better than Subway, but Hubs said Subways is better. Almost double the price for the same length of sandwich, but you get more filling with D'atri and the ingredients are better quality. read more

D'Atri's serves the world's best steak sub and Italian hoagie period. My mind can't process the thought of a world without these steak subs, they are that good. This thing is lives in my personal top 10 best meals ever list. Needless to say, I love this place. I haven't lived in Cumberland for nearly 15 years, but I ritualistically stop here first for lunch before I do anything or visit anyone when I come in to town. They have a pretty diverse menu, and I'm sure locals are willing to try out other things, but for me, I stick to what I know and love. This place could of certainly received more stars had the sandwich makers actually cared about what they were preparing. Good grief, I don't think I have ever had so much mayo on a sub in my life. Our take-out order: cheese steak (their version) and a reuben. Maybe someone in the kitchen had the munchies and thought they made the ultimate sandwich, but these buds said otherwise. The flavors were pretty decent but would have sung had the proportions of the ingredients been balanced. There was an unnecessarily huge portion of seasoned lettuce (greens tossed in an Italian dressing), rib eye, provolone, onions and tomatoes. This monster was an absolute mess to eat, made even more difficult since it was not even cut in half. The provolone was not melted, and instead almost fell out of the roll intact. Really? No mingling of meat and cheesy goodness? Isn't that the definition of a cheesesteak? The roll was baked in house and was a good vessel for all the fillings had they been well prepared and distributed correctly. It sucks when you get to a part of a sub where they neglected to spread out the toppings. Mayo and bread is just not my go to meal. The reuben suffered from the same lack of even distribution. One half had almost no corned beef and the whole thing was limp from an over abundance of liquid from the dressing and the kraut. Try eating these while tailgating on the hood of your trunk on a road trip, and it spells disaster. Obviously though, the locals love it. Couldn't even find a parking spot on a Friday afternoon. It certainly had the potential for a good meal if only someone had treated our subs with some love and attention. read more

The family and I are on road tripping across country, we were getting low on gas and happened in to this town. As I was pumping gas I saw the sign for this place. I asked the nice lady at the CVS if this place was any good, she said yes and told me about several of the dishes. I told my wife we are stopping here. As we walked on the door we were greeted by to friendly you ladies. Monday night and this place was packed, they did have some tables up stairs available so we got a seat right away. The wonderfull girl that took us to our table gave some glowing recommendations and I took her up on them. We got the lasagna, alfredo with chicken, kids chicken tenders, and the chicken dumpling soup. I also have never heard of a chocolate coke, it was there own design. I had to try the chocolate coke and was not disappointed. The lasagna was amazing, so was the alfredo. My wife thought the chicken tenders looked dry but when we tried them they were just right. Her soup was good too. We had to get back on the road so we didn't get dessert, I did order a backed soup for the road I haven't got into it yet but I have no doughts that it will be great to.
