Love my little foodies! The fact that the D'Juan's bistro was recommended to me by my son while he was in California speaks volumes. He had seen a post and the oysters caught his eye. Upon his return to the East Coast, an obligatory visit was at the top of our list. When he told me the location, I immediately recognized West Village as an area. I walked too often when I lived in Vinings. With the area, medical facilities, opening, and several other new buildings, I missed the main entrance. That was my fault as I was aware of another entrance before that one and could have entered the area from that point. Made a U-turn and easily found D'Juan's. There was ample parking near the entrance, as well as spaces on the opposite side. Additionally, there is a parking deck for patrons of the area. Our focus was the Wednesday oyster special (@1.75 each) that included oysters topped with a specialty sauce. I am not sure if they were steamed, baked or roasted on a grill, but what I do know is that they were delicious. Bread came with the oysters and took me straight to experiences at popular oyster restaurants in New Orleans - truly authentic! The first dozen we ordered was quickly followed with a second order. I ordered the crawfish linguine and did request light sauce. My son ordered the turkey with rice, yams and collard greens. He was definitely missing the southern cuisine! He enjoyed his meal and had enough for leftovers. The portion of linguine was enough for two meals. I felt it was lacking something and our Server brought out a house seasoning that worked perfectly. The chef came by our table and I believe he was an owner as well, and inquired on how we were enjoying ourselves. When I mentioned my linguine, he brought additional sauce and paired with the seasoning was exceptional. Our server Tom was amazing! Ironically, he was a recent California transplant. He was attentive, charming, and provided detailed answers to our increase. I must point out that he was managing an entire section and was seamless in everything he did. I made sure to let the Chef know this when he made his rounds. Tom was especially helpful with our drink orders which included the Nola margarita and a traditional margarita. The Nola, margarita included Hennessy, Gran Marnier and lime juice. It had a subtle strong effect and was perfectly made. Due to the busy patio traffic, a fly had decided to partake in my son's margarita and Tom promptly replaced it. Excellent service with a smile! Lastly, I must complement the decor that truly embodied the Nola style. There was a large mask by the entrance, Mardi Gras related decor throughout and especially interesting statue near the restrooms. The gumbo was a disappointing and, frankly, insulting representation of New Orleans cuisine. It was watery, lacked flavor, and didn't contain any shrimp. To make matters worse, the food and drinks are significantly overpriced, with the quality falling far short of the prices. The ambiance is definitely chic and stylish, but unfortunately, the atmosphere can't make up for the lackluster food and excessive prices. What a fabulous experience! D'juans has been on my list for a minute now so I'm glad I took some time to check them out. Located in Vinings in a plaza packed with awesome retail shops and restaurants, I drove past the building at first but when I found it, the sign stuck out immediately. When I entered I was immediately welcomed by a giantttt Mardi Gras mask. Super cool but possibly frightening at night after a few hurricanes. I visited on a random afternoon but there were still a few guests seated at the bar and around the restaurant. Kareem was my server and he was such a joy. I didn't really know what to order because everything really sounded amazing. Thanks to Kareem's recommendations, I ended up going with the Oyster trio, the gumbo and beignet bites. My order came out about 15 minutes or so later, piping hot and super fresh. Everything looked amazingggg! The oysters were all delicious but the spicy one was my favorite. The crab-stuffed oyster was fullll of crab but almost too filling for me, I struggled to finish it. But if that's my only "complaint", I think that says a lot lol. Surprisingly disappointed! I was so excited to finally make it here and invited my family visiting from out of state. It started off great with the warm welcome and service so I was that much more excited. Our server was nice and friendly and patient as some of us were indecisive about what to order, it all looked and sounded good. The drinks came out first and they were actually pretty good. Then the appetizer, which was the crab dip. It was soupy and came with only a few pieces of bread, not much crab. Then the entrees, gumbo, stuffed salmon, Mardi grass pasta, catfish, dirty rice and oyster trio. All were too salty. I love salt so if im saying it was too salty it's really bad. Some of us couldn't finish the dishes because the salt was overbearing. Huge disappointment. To make things worse, our server disappeared several times, so much so we had to constantly ask someone to find him. He was sitting at another table socializing most of the time, which was odd and irritating. I was so over it I didn't even bother to order the dessert I wanted to try. It was not as crowded as I would expect it to be on a Friday night and how it appears on TikTok, so that should've been a sign. Djuan's New Orleans Bistro - Charming Vibe with Inconsistencies I've visited Djuan's New Orleans Bistro twice now once on a Wednesday and again the following week on a Thursday and overall, my experience has been a mix of great potential with a few noticeable misses. Let's start with the atmosphere. Upon first walk-in, the space is absolutely adorable. The Mardi Gras mask wine holder is a beautiful focal point, though I do think it would flow better slightly off to the side to open up the space more. The layout could also benefit from a proper host stand instead of a table at the front. That said, I loved sitting in the booth it gives you a great view overlooking the restaurant, and the outdoor area has a really nice vibe as well. On my Wednesday visit, I took advantage of their specials and ordered a $10 Hurricane, which was perfectly balanced between flavor and alcohol honestly, one was enough to get me right. I also ordered a French 75, but it came out warm, which was disappointing. I had to request ice just to enjoy it properly. For food, we ordered crab fries, catfish bites, and two dozen oysters. The oysters were very good, and the bread they came with was amazing though I did find it a bit petty to be charged $2 for just four small extra pieces. One thing I noticed between visits is inconsistency in oyster size. On Wednesday, they were larger, while on Thursday they were noticeably smaller. Unfortunately, during my second visit, on our last order of oysters, I found a large, thick hair on one of them. That completely ruined the experience for me and is something that should never happen, especially with seafood. The crab fries were nothing to rave about pretty much standard frozen fries with minimal seasoning, topped with crab meat. I honestly think they'd be better off offering fried crab claws instead. The catfish bites came out hot and fresh but could've used more seasoning to really stand out. Another major factor during my visit was that the air conditioning was out, which made the experience uncomfortable especially when you're dining and drinking alcohol. That combination just doesn't work well. Despite the inconsistencies, I will say management was very kind and receptive when I shared my concerns. They suggested I return on a less busy day for a better experience, which I appreciated. This is another place we found on Tik Tok. Everyone at the establishment is just kind. The gentleman behind the bar was our waiter and bartender. I couldn't decided what I wanted to eat, so I ordered everything I wanted. I got the cup of gumbo, shrimp po boy (comes with fries) , collard greens and a glass of wine. The Gumbo was so good!! Had a whole chicken leg in it. When I tell you that chicken fell off that bone so smooth!! Packed with flavor. I should've got a cup to go. The Shrimp Po-boy wasn't as good. The flavor of the shrimp was chefs kiss but the assembly felt a little throw together. Bread was a little on the hard side. Barely any mayo so it was little dry and those tomatoes were so thickly cut. Fries were good, crispy and soft on the inside! The Collars Greens were flavorful!! Served with a bottle of hot sauce baby. I could've had a second go around on those too. Wine was our waiters choice and good one. I believe it was a Moscato. Really light and fruity. I ordered a shrimp po'boy, and it came with only a small handful of popcorn shrimp. The shrimp were very salty, a bit chewy, and there simply wasn't enough on the sandwich. I ended up asking for extra shrimp because it felt incomplete as it was served. We were dining with a group of seven, and none of the adults at the table were particularly happy with their meals. For the prices being charged, we expected much better flavor, quality, and overall value. The one thing that stood out in a positive way was our waitress Nia. I was in the area and looking for someplace to grab a quick bite. D'juan's had good yelp reviews in the food pictures looked delicious, so it was a no-brainer to try. The restaurant is in a strip mall that is kind of tucked away. It's not easy to see from the street. The first thing I noticed when I pulled into the parking lot is that most of the storefront seem to be closed. A gentleman who walked in directly before me was asking the hostess about how long they would be in this location. I did not hear the full answer, but it seems that maybe the strip mall is closing down in the businesses there maybe all relocating. I'm not sure if this is true, so don't quote me on it. However, it was very curious that at 5 PM on a Thursday, everything else would already be closed, including other restaurants. Because I was ordering to go, I ordered at the bar. The waitress had some trouble with the tablet and card reader, so it took a while to check out, but she was pleasant throughout the transaction. Because I was paying close attention, I was able to catch that she originally rung me up for a different platter than I'd ordered. I'm glad I caught that ahead of time so that I wasn't disappointed when my food came. Around the bar top, they have small signs noting that there is an automatic 20% gratuity on all orders. I'm glad I saw that ahead of time so that I was not surprised by the up charge. I visited the restroom while I waited for my food to come out. There are separate single use restrooms for men and women. It was clean enough and well stocked. My food came out pretty quickly, and I went to my car to take a few bites before starting my hour long drive home. Honestly, the food was just okay. I wouldn't drive 50 to 60 minutes just to eat here, but I would try it again if I was with someone who wanted to come here. I just would not order the same thing. If I got the catfish again, I would try it grilled. I had a fried catfish platter and a side of crawfish mac & cheese. All of it was edible, but none of it was excellent. Overall, the portion sizes are a bit smaller than the prices would suggest. When I ordered the crawfish mac & cheese, the waitress asked me if I wanted the side or the entrée. I had not noticed the entrée before this; however, the question made me look for it. There was about a 5 to 7 dollar price difference between the two. My mother and I visited for the first time for lunch 3/26/26. We truly enjoyed everything about our dinning experience. The service is top tier, even the manager makes her rounds and greets guests and ensures the patrons were enjoying themselves. Our server was excellent, but I also want to add that everyone working there seemed to be very attentive even if they weren't your assigned server and I was impressed by that! Now on to the food.... I was honestly surprised when I picked up a to-go order and saw that a 20% gratuity had been added. I don't think I've ever encountered a restaurant charging a 20% gratuity on takeout. I'm happy to leave a tip, even for to-go orders, because I know someone is preparing and packaging the food. But a mandatory 20% gratuity for an order I'm picking up myself feels excessive. I have no problem paying for good service when I'm dining in, and I always tip generously when someone is waiting on me. This just didn't feel reasonable. Our server was actually the bartender. She's very nice and very knowledgeable about everything weasked. My wife and I visited for the first time on a Friday night and decided to sit at the bar. We ordered drinks, chargrilled oysters, the Oyster Platter, Mardi Gras pasta, and whole wings with fries. The oysters were the highlight of the meal. My wife, a chargrilled oyster enthusiast, was particularly impressed. We had considered going to C&S but decided to give D'Juan's a try--and we don't regret it. The Oyster Platter is a must-try. The lump crab oysters and jalapeño oysters were absolutely delectable and exceeded our expectations. For entrees, my wife ordered the Mardi Gras pasta, and I had the whole wings. The pasta arrived fresh and hot, with a good mixture of seafood. However, the seasoning was heavily concentrated on the meat and left the roux a bit underwhelming. While the food was great, the service left much to be desired. At the end of the meal, we requested a to-go box three times before finally receiving one. On the second request, we noticed the bartender chatting and pouring drinks for her colleagues instead of attending to us. Waiting over 10 minutes for a box, especially after reminding her, was frustrating--particularly when gratuity was automatically added to the bill. While catching up with two high school classmates in Atlanta, we stopped in for a visit at D'Juan's Bistro. It's small, tight, and loud. I ordered the gumbo and collards greens. The gumbo was interesting. Instead of shredded chicken, there was a leg from a chicken wing in the gumbo. The roux was thin, as in not much or any okra added as a base. Very little cajun or creole seasoning The greens were good. The crab cake that one friend bought was bland. The fish and chips that another friend had was good. Service was outstanding and that scores the restaurant highest marks. It's a nice place to hang out, it seems. I would have to try something else before I can give high marks for the food. This spot does not live up to the hype! The food is average and overpriced but the service is excellent, so maybe that's what keeps people coming back. So I don't even know where to begin. The customer service was amazing I'll start there. My waiter was Shakur. He was amazing, attentive, kind, and sweet. He was so kind and he took me to see the owner after I was done and I got chance to talk to her about what I had to eat. I got to brag on him. The owner was really sweet too she wrote down his name after I asked for it so I could request him when I bring my mom down. I let her know how great everything was after she asked and I had I told her the chargrilled oysters, the crawfish Mac, the white sangria, and the Beignets were to live for. The ambiance was amazing. Came here on Cinco de Mayo at 7:55 pm for dinner. Their website said they close at 10 pm. We were turned away because they were closing at 8 pm because they said it was a slow day. What kind of business they're running here. Some days will be slow and orhers will not. Oh well, I won't be back.
