Came here for dinner with friends. This place gets surprisingly busy so reservations are a must! The complementary bread with the 3 dipping sauces is any carbohydrate-lovers dream! We ordered an antipasto salad for 2 (which really serves 4), which was good. I opted for the fried lobster, shrimp and chicken plate that came with a side of rigatoni. I regret not just getting a boiled lobster because I think a lot of the flavor was lost in the sea of fat and breading.despite that, it was very good though the rigatoni must have been out of the box pasta because it tasted artificial. My husband ordered the pesce Alfredo which is a divine dish with scallops, shrimp and lobster in a heavenly bed of delicious pasta. Definitely recommend it! Service was fantastic, ambience is nice, feels like a slightly upscale family establishment. Prices are more than reasonable because the portions are designed for sumo wrestlers. overrated big time. Best in Albany, please. An intentional illusion. From the frumpy dressed hostess to the half hour wait an hour after opening which means they overbook tables. The red sauce tasted more like tomato paste than sauce. The wait staff was ok but far from impressive, forgetting items and serving wine lists with nothing under the cover. I'll allow one star for the claim "can't find enough help" in this post Covid world but Italian food experience should be enjoyable and shouldn't feel like a cattle call. Excellent service as usual. We didn't make reservations but the host accommodated us well and sat us quickly. Waiter was very nice. We came here hoping to taste the home made sauce and ended up a little disappointed. The sauce was very salty to the point where it wouldn't surprise me if the chef mistakenly mixed the sauce with salt instead of sugar. We took the food to go and fixed it at home by watering it down and adding some sugar. I would still come back here though, to taste the home made sauce that I remember this place for. read more

Celebrated wife's 60th Birthday! Being from NNJ /NYC area expectations with classic Italian American food are pretty high. This place did not disappoint & most of all the service from our server Marissa. Sorry didn't take pictures of the food. As stated the veal is wonderful, every single piece was super tender. D'raymonds is as good as it gets in the Albany area for Italian--hands down. They know what they're doing. I've been coming here for years and every time it is delicious. It is my family's go to place when we want good quality Italian. I suggest making a reservation-- it gets really crowded and reservations are definitely necessary on weekends. The service here is really excelled. All the servers are knowledgeable and attentive. I also appreciate how some of the servers have been there for years. There's something nice about that. Every one of their dishes is absolutely amazing. I have never been let down in the least. Their sauce is to die for. I honestly don't know what they put in it, but it's outstanding. Every Christmas eve we do platters from D'raymonds and everything has been outstanding. Just as good as if you ate there. The prices are also excellent--such a great value. The portions are large and the quality is just great. I cannot stress how good the value is. For the same meal at another restaurant it could easily run you $5+ more for not as good quality. I inquired last week about a catering order for my sons birthday, which after speaking with my family decided to go with D'Raymonds called back two days later placed and paid. Two days before the party they call 5pm on a Sunday to tell me this can not be done and they will be closed & "sorry there's nothing we can do."What a joke!! Hard enough to find someone to take a catering order after Christmas and now will be rat racing to find someone to take this on ONE DAY BEFORE! Will NEVER do business with these guys again! This place is a total sh*t show. Called the day before VDay to put in a small takeout dinner order for Valentine's Day. Hostess refused to take order and told me to call back on VDay after 3pm. Ok? I called back today, VDay, at 3:05pm. Was told by the same hostess from the previous day, "sorry but our takeout is full" Like what? "Oh yeah Mealeo sold us out" She was totally unapologetic, could have cared less, which, by the way, is par for the course for this place. If you're lucky enough to get through the unanswered phone, they act like they're doing you a favor. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Business here must be that good. Guess I'm confused as to how Mealeo can accept orders anytime, when the restaurant itself won't take orders until a specific time. I'm wondering if people are high when they eat here or just lack tastebuds for good food. Let me start by saying, you are not that nice of a restaurant to not have high chairs. I repeat, NO HIGH CHAIRS. What??? In this day and age who does that? Have been twice and both times service and hostess have been subpar. Reservations made for 13, place set for 11 in a spot that could only fit 10 comfortably. Hostess argued with us about how many people were on the reservation and only after a conversation that went on for far too long we're the other 2 guests uncomfortably accommodated. Empty tables next to us we were told were for another party until about 20 min into our stay where we were told we could extend our over crowded table. Bread and fried dough was good, only reason this place received 2 stars. Food is ok, some dishes are good, some not so much. Friends and I were looking for a restaurant after covid we saw many good reviews and looked at the menu on line and noticed many dishes that are a step above what is offered in a regular Italian restaurant and on a night out we decided to give D'Raymonds a try, due to the reopening after covid they had a nice large outside tent set up in their parking lot . We had inside reservations , all the staff we came into contact with were all extremely nice and professional, we all started out with either wine or a cocktail, they have a good selection of wines by the glass, My wife and I decided we wanted to try a sampling so we ordered 4 appetizers instead of an app and regular meals, we shared the roasted peppers with Prosciutto in a casserole and The lobster ravioli in a spicy cream sauce with Shrimp they were both delicious the lobster ravioli was the best we ever had the spicy cream sauce was great and it was served with 2 large fried shrimp, then we shared a goat cheese and Prosciutto pizza off the bar menu that they were nice to let us order as the pizza is not part of the dining room menu, it was probably the best pizza in the capital region we also shared the Sicilian Meatballs they were excellent, Our friends had for an app the beans and greens which they said were great he had the chicken parm and she had a chicken dish cut into pin wheels that she also raved about they both cleaned their plates , for dessert our friends had a piece of lemon blueberry cake that he loved, We will definitely be back and not just for the dining experience but for pizza to stay and to go! read more

D'Raymonds serves the best Italian food I've had in upstate New York. The portion sizes are very generous and the service was superb. I had the Filet Mignon and Lobster tail and it was delicious. I had a fantastic side of angel hair pasta that came with my entree but you can also substitute for potatoes or a veggie. The filet was juicy (medium) and the lobster tail was flavorful. The lobster tail was a half tail of a medium sized lobster. My sister ordered the homemade lasagna and it was incredible with the layers of ricotta, mozzarella, ground meatball, and sausage. The little neck clams were a wonderful appetizer that is enough to share between 4 people. I will certainly be coming back to D'Raymonds when I visit the Albany capital region. read more

My fiancé and I came here for dinner last Saturday at 5 PM. I highly recommend making a reservation (we made it a couple of days before) because they do get busy and we did witness a family come in without one and were told there are no tables available until around 9 PM. We too have experienced this as we have previously tried to get in without a reservation. We were seated at the second booth from the door (only minus, since people were constantly gathering in that space when waiting to be seated and standing over us). Besides that, we greatly enjoyed our overall experience here! The food, wine, and service were superb! We ordered a bottle of Luigi Righetti. My fiancé ordered a french onion soup and we also got a scallop and shrimp appetizer to share (special of the day, not on the menu). For our entrees we ordered the Amerosi and Pesce Alfredo. Everything was so delicious and the portions are very, very generous! We were stuffed after eating less than half of our entrees (may be a good idea to share one) and took the rest home. read more

Returned for lunch recently. The place was PACKED on a Wednesday. And no wonder.....prices are very reasonable at lunch time, and there is a great selection - including sandwiches as well as more traditional Italian dishes. The bread was the only disappointment and I don't think that the whipped butter was real. I had Eggplant D'Anna which was superb. Large thin slices of perfectly roasted eggplant layered with marscapone, spinach, roasted pepper, and mozarella in a delcious creamy tomato sauce. With a side of spaghetti and a meatball, I could only eat half of it. A generous pour of icy cold Pinot Grigio for $7.00 rounded out the meal. What a perfect summer wine. I find their marinara a little unusual, and just okay. I detect fennel it there. The meatball was pretty dry and nothin' special. But overall, the dishes going by looked so appetizing - as did the fries that came with sandwiches. I think I'd order a sandwich next time just to try those golden fries! No hostess in sight and the bartender is just standing there rubbing down the bar like a stereotypical TV/Movie bartender trying make it look like they are actually doing something. After 5 minutes an old 70 year old lady with a clip board comes over and asks how many, I tell her 2 and she asks if we have a reservation which we don't. She then proceeds to tell us "the next opening is at 8pm". Wtf.... the restaurant is EMPTY! Are you so exclusive you don't take walk ins? Came here for a family birthday celebration, we didn't have too long of a wait cause of our reservation which was nice. We were seated and ordered drinks - I ordered one of their drinks of the cocktail menu and was handed the wrong drink - unless its a new thing for margaritas to have whiskey in it. I ordered a chicken dish and was not impressed at all. I didn't even eat half of it. My party was content though. Overall the experience there was pleasant, the servers were friendly and attentive. We went on a Thursday and despite not having been to this establishment in over a decade it is still as I remebered- wall to wall people. We were seated at the bar which was acceptable as we didnt have a reservation. The bartender was a delight! We ordered a bottle of wine which came with our fresh bread and olive oil dipping sauce. The ambiance is dark and somewhat romantic if your looking for a date night out. However, I do miss the wonderful piano bar they had about fifteen years ago which was a huge allure. I am not sure why they would get rid of it... The dress code is business casual. You may feel under dressed in jeans or sweatpants. We ordered shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. Our meals were delicious as expected. We ordered Bistecca Alla D'raymonds a charbroiled sirloin steak sliced and topped with buttery garlic sauce and Vitello Rollitine Veal rolled with fresh spinach mozzarella cheese with artichokes and mushrooms in light cream marsala wine sauce. Perfect! You can get two additional meals out of the leftovers. It seems like we are in this restaurant a little longer then most. 1.5 to 2 hours is a general idea of the time you will need to fully enjoy yourself. I did take a star off for service. It was not bad by any means, just average. Not that extra special attention you would receive at Ferrari's for example. The bill ran about $130 for a party of two ordering generously. We got a gift certificate for D'Raymonds and we both are always excited to try a new place outside our normal stomping ground. It was very near a restaurant we tried last year. If you didn't know this place was there you would drive right past it. The gift certificate giver stressed that we had to make a reservation, they said it would be impossible to just show up and get seated. We made a 530 reservation and showed up around 520. The hostess greeted us and sat us right away. We got a booth against the wall. A great place to sit. It provides you with privacy and also let's you look out over the restaurant. It is very dark in here. Lots of wood and dark walls. Little to no windows. The place was not full at 530, by 6 it was packed. Every table full. Our waitress didn't come over right away. This was a taste of what was going to happen for the rest of our dinner. The hostess gave us our menus. Holy crap there is a lot to choose from here. Every thing sounded so good. Finally our waitress, she was very friendly but not attentive, took our drink order and told us about the specials. The bartender here knows what he is doing.. one of the best strawberry cosmos I have had in a long time. (Mr bartender) we decided on the calamari for an appetizer, the pesto gnocchi and seafood in alfredo. The bread came out first with 3 spreads. The roasted red pepper spread was delicious. I need to learn how to make that. Calamari was good, not the best we have had. I would like to try the stuffed mushrooms next time. The appetizer came out and we had finished our drinks and wanted another round. Although is was very light on lobster meat, it was very good. My poor husband on the other hand, his shrimp had a very strong ammonia flavor and he couldn't eat them. We didn't get dessert and I had enough left to take home. We still have $$$ left on the gift card so we will go back and try something different. Went here on a whim have heard great things about the place, sat down promptly no issues I wasn't super hungry so I opted for the bianco clams appetizer. We also shared the antipasto for one. My husband ordered the scallops he was just going to get appetizer as well but waiter said " you can make it a meal for a couple more dollars" since it was was around 15 dollars we thought why not a couple dollars thinking at most it would be 25 .... nope 40 dollars!!!!!! Hence the 3 star! I get it it's a fancier kinda place and we went out expecting to spend a good chunk of change but the fact the waiter said it was a couple more dollars that were really 25 more is unexplainable on principle alone! I've been dining at D'Raymonds for over 25 years. Always loved the food. Just spent $150 for a delivery of Pesce Fra Diavlo, Veal Parm and an appetizer. The portion size of the side of rigatoni with the veal was extremely reduced. The sauce for the Fra Diavlo was so watery it lost all flavor. There may have been a cup of rigatoni and the fish was bland. The scallops are now mini. I never thought I would write a bad review for this restaurant but this is the second time the food has been compromised when getting it delivered. When charged 16+ dollars for tax and "services" on top of the increased costs I expected to at least have the quality of meal I've gotten over the past 25 years. I will go and eat there and hope the food is as good as it used to be when dining in but was so disappointed in this meal I needed to write this review. read more

On 1/14 I ordered lunch takeout (shrimp and chicken lemon piccata pasta dish) at D'Raymonds. Approx 3 hours after I ate my food I immediately became ill and ended up with food poisoning. I called the restaurant on Tuesday 1/19 asked to speak to a manager to at least alert them about my experience and I spoke to an employee. She apologized and asked for my contact info so the owner could connect with me. I never heard back nor did I feel like they went out of their way to retain me as a customer. I've been to D'Raymonds previously a couple times and always had a nice experience. I understand that situations can arise but it's so critical to ensure food prep and safety standards are always met. The lack of customer service from the staff was also very disappointing. I've heard some good things about D'Raymonds, and also recently saw the Times Union's Award best Italian in the area, so gave it a shot. The venue is somewhat dumpy in an out of the way commercial strip, and the interior isn't much better. The decor has definitely seen better times. The food, though, was very good, though everything seemed extremely rich and heavy. I ordered a special, Filet Mignon, served with battered jumbo shrimp rolled in prosciutto and prepared scampi style. The filet mignon was excellent. But the shrimp was lost in the prosciutto. Too much prosciutto. You don't need roll a shrimp with it like you're making a snowman. It certainly was not worth $37.95. I would get the filet mignon with lobster for $9 less. Wife had the crabmeat rolled in veal. Very good, though extremely heavy with cream sauce. The bruschetta appetizer was unremarkable, if not mediocre. Avoid. This place should be a solid 3.5/4-star for the food. But the service was atrocious. We had been seated for over 45 minutes and did not receive all the drinks we ordered, nor any of the appetizers--not even some bread to eat. Took my girl's parents there for a birthday. Place was very busy for a Monday night, but our server was good, really on his game. This was my first time here, so I was looking forward to trying it. Last night on a Facebook site someone was asking who made good eggplant parmigiana in the 518 area. I responded with a list of my favorites. Today, I decided to use a gift card I got long ago for D'Raymonds. I live eggplant parm but I also love chicken parm. I was happy to see Petto Di Pollo Sorrento on the menu. Best of both worlds. I ordered out and brought it home. When I opened the bag I was surprised on the serving size of that entree and the side of homemade spaghetti. I ate about half and was stuffed. The sauce was a nice traditional pasta sauce with a hint of smoke which worked well. Chicken/bread ratio was perfect. The eggplant was cut thin and fried plus was perfectly layered on the chicken. Wow a Gem in my area that I didn't know about until I got the gift card and had never tried. The restaurant had a nice vibe and was very inviting. Super nice hostess. I never reviewed D'Raymonds previously!? Went for dinner recently. Left happy as possible, great Italian food with awesome table service. In all the years we have been going to D'Raymonds I can never remember not leaving happy when we went. That being said, as discussed in some others reviews, the waiting arrangement can be a little trying. There is a small bar/standing combo area that is adjacent to the door and two booths where people are eating. It can easily get packed and be awkward and it gets cold. We had a reservation for 8 and we weren't seated until 8:30. I think they get a little swamped and due to their relatively small sized dining room, a few slow tables can really screw them. The Hostess thanked us for our patience when she sat us. Note to self for future- show up late for reservations :-) Just don't go on the weekends if you don't have a reservation. Food- 4.5 Stars Loses a half star for the whole wheat pasta, which was undercooked and probably from a Box (not a huge surprise). Everything else was perfect. They bring out bread and fried dough, both of which are awesome but should be pretty much skipped. Apps- Roasted Red Pepper app (on menu) was awesome. Really great flavors and textures. Special stuffed rigatoni appetizer was also very good, but not as good as it sounded. Dinners- I got Veal with Crab meat and Vodka sauce. It was very very good. My dad got veal with Shrimp and a red sauce. He was happy. Wife got a Seafood pasta dish with the aforementioned slightly undercooked (less then al-dente) whole wheat pasta, she said it was very good although the lobster tail was just slightly overcooked. The Angel hair I got as a side was absolutely perfect. I love their marinara, it's just perfect in my opinion. Double mousse desert thingy was awesome. Service- 5 Stars. Outside of the slow seating, perfect. Waitress was one of the best I have had in a long time. Attentive, funny, timely, not overbearing or annoying. Atmosphere- 4 Stars. Last night was our first time at D'Raymonds. We went on the recommendation of a co-worker. It was my wife's birthday. First, our waitress, Stacy, was amazing. She had all the specials and variations on the specials memorized and described to us to the point where we had to ask if the specials are always the same. She said they change daily. She made some great recommendations for us, was very attentive to our table, our drinks were always full.....very, very pleased with the service. For appetizers we got the Antipasta Salad, the Stuffed Roasted Peppers and the Bruschetta. The roasted pepper rocked. The antipasta salad was freshly cut, the dressing complimented it well. For dinner, I ordered the Manicotti with a meatball and hot sausage. I always found meatballs to be hit or miss so I hedged my bet by ordered hot sausage. I should have stuck with the meatballs. They tasted so fresh and flavorful. I thought maybe they had someone's Italian grandmother working back in the kitchen making them. The manicotti was good. It wasn't exceptional like the meatballs. Or maybe they were, but just overshadowed by the meatballs. The other dinners we had were Petto Di Pollo, Petto Di Pollo Alla Nastro and Pesce Alfredo. Everyone enjoyed their meals and while I didn't taste everyone's, each raved about their own meal. The general consensus was that everything tasted freshly made, very flavorful and very filling. We all went home with doggie bags. One last thing, we brought in our own cake for my wifes birthday. Stacy, our waitress, brought it out, sang with us and then asked if we wanted to cut it or if we wanted her to take it in the back and cut it. We opted for them to cut it. She asked how thick of a slice. That's a small detail, but a question I've never heard asked anywhere else we've been. When she brought it out, it was plated with a drizzle of raspberry sauce on one side and a caramel sauce on the other. She added a decorative garnish of whipped cream and served it. First, the place is always packed, so service won't be as attentive you might want. But if you're willing to take the time, you will be rewarded with food as good as you'll get anywhere, regardless of cuisine. Just about every Italian restaurant will do eggplant rollatini. Nobody elevates it to this level. If you want a vegetarian to have a memorable meal, this is the dish to suggest. Actually, if you want a carnivore to have a memorable meal, this is the dish to suggest It's ordinary to get butter and olive oil for your bread. But also a roasted red pepper aioli? That's special. A nice touch is that they bring fried dough before the entree. I guess that's an Italian grandmother's idea of cleansing the palate. The worst thing about the place is having to decide on what to order. Everything sounds good - and is! I look forward to working my way through the entire menu. read more
