I came here a while back with my girlfriend and it is a restaurant that I had anticipated going to for the longest time. To preface, I will start off by saying the high expectations met by disappointment, along with there being lots of other Italian restaurants in the city, might be the reason for the negative review. The ambiance wasn't the worst, but there are restaurants I've been to that have had a better ambiance, especially at this price point. To start off, we got the piatto del salumiere for 2, as it was recommended by the server, and the parmigiana di melanzane. Though the dishes were not bad, they were very underwhelming, with the assorted cured meat and cheese plate being similar to that which I made with cured meat and cheese from a supermarket. The only redeeming quality of it was the walnuts, which appear to have been glazed in some sweet sugar-like glaze. The parmigiana di melanzane was also not bad but was very forgetable. For the primi, I ordered myself the garganelli and my girlfriend the black linguine, which I had heard was superb so I decided to let her try it. However, upon trying both pastas, I was immediately disappointed. The garganelli was very bland and very difficult to eat after a few bites, and the black linguine had a strong umami, almost fishy taste. It was very unpleasant to eat and I just remember feeling bad for ordering her the black linguine as she is not a very picky eater, but she didn't seem to be very appetized by the dish. The service wasn't too bad and the waiter was very nice, but it was quite slow given each server only had one or two tables to take care of. Overall, I did not personally find the experience to be worth it. read more

I stopped in on a Saturday night with out a reservation! They were nice to accommodate, with a table right away! I would reccomend the lasagna made with wagu beef, it was amazing! Very pretty Italian restaurant! The bread served in the beginning was really good and the food came out very fast! The staff was very attentive and cleared our dishes fast and refilled our water constantly. I got the black linguine which was good and the prawns weren't too fishy and cooked right but it was nothing special. I wish the menu was bigger and the portions were bigger. read more

I'm not sure why it took me so long to visit Da Claudio, but I'm so glad I did and I can't wait to go back! The restaurant has outdoor dining across the street, the tables were close in proximity but I'm glad we had clear dividers. The service was top notch, our waitress Hannah was so sweet and showed my puppy Zeno (@go.zeno.go) so much love! Our other waiter (sorry I didn't get your name) always made sure my water glass is filled, talk about attention to detail! I was driven to go to this place based on their reviews. I was greeted at the door by one of the managers, and who found me a wonderful table; kind of secluded . I had been walking for a bit. The server recommended a tequila cocktail, and prefaced by saying it was a little spicy. I am used to margaritas with a kick, well with Mexican heritage you can't get past that.! I asked the server to have some simple syrup added, as it was a bit on the bitter side. I ordered a lovely salad, and did try to take a couple more sips, however I was not finding the drink to be a good option to the meal. I only drank a quarter of the drink. I ordered a glass of wine which was superb, and then I asked the server if he could take the drink off the bill. Supposedly he consulted one of the managers came back to the table, and said I'm sorry that is what you ordered, so we can't take it off the bill. I have been fortunate to experience fine dining for most of my 50 years. I was shocked at the fact that they couldn't take one lousy drink off of a bill, when I ordered other things and actually would give the food and the ambience of this place a five star rating. After having a relaxing, stress-free day at Sojo Spa (took the day off from work) and enjoying The China Institute's "Art of The Mountain" Exhibit, I was ready to eat! Yes, it was definitely dinnertime so I perused over my Yelp Bookmarks. Finally, I just decided to do a Yelp Search for Italian Restaurants in the nearby area. De Claudio popped up and the reviews and food pictures looked great....I walked there as fast as my feet could go!-lol. Although this is my first time eating at De Claudio it has become hands down one of my favorite places to eat Italian Food. I know, I have said this about other Italian restaurants and it is all true! I like all of the Italian eateries that I have been to- Why? Well, you already know how much I love Italian Food- lol. That by default makes me like any restaurant that serves Italian dishes. However, De Claudio not only creates and serves what I enjoy eating but does so with lovely staff that create positive energy that manifests itself into excellent customer service. De Claudio is spacious in a cozy kind of way. The best way for me to describe De Claudio's ambiance is that it is low-key and down-to-earth yet elegant at the same time. This place had Candle lightin as well as a mixture of various sized table settings and a bar. I opted to sit at the bar and had the most pleasant dining experience. I started with the Piatto Del Salumiere which is an Assorted Cured Meat and Cheese Plate w/ Olives. Jose made my Pineapple Juice look like a mocktail which was cute. The Garganelli entree had tender pasta with great tasting meat and marinara sauce. Thanks to Jose for suggesting that I have Tiramisu and then mentioned that Amaro liquor would pair well with that dessert. The Amaro and Tiramisu complimented each other. Bar Servers Jose and T.T. were so lovely. It seemed like "Service with a Smile" should be there motto because they sure did that with ease for the duration of my meal. Both of them were so kind, patient, humorous and provided great recommendations on possible entrees and desserts should be ordered. Shout-Out to them as they showed they are hardworking (kept the bar in tip-top shape), good natured individuals....I made sure to mention that on the restaurant's survey you can complete as it comes along with your bill. Great spot for afterwork drinks and traditional Italian fare. This is a welcome addition in the Financial District, where lots of the happy hours spots are pubs and bars. I believe happy hour runs until 7 and the wine selection is REALLY good. I opted for the Aperol spritz during my first time here and it was made to perfection. For dinner, I ordered the linguini made with squid ink which I think is made in house. It had that extreme seafood flavor, stronger than any squid ink linguini I've had before, and I honestly couldn't tell if it was a good or bad thing. It was served with a decent portion of prawns on top which were obviously fresh. Would I order this dish again? I'm not sure because the flavor was a bit much for me, but I'd definitely come back for the happy hour special. read more

A very pleasant and surprising meal here! Came around 6 on a Friday night, there was a decent crowd but no wait. I was surprised at how big the space was, really liked the open kitchen as well. Decent happy hour deals as well that last until 7pm. We started with the meats and cheese platter for two, fried baby artichoke (both a part of happy hour menu) and burratta which was one of their specials of the night. The meats and cheese comes with 3 or 4 types of meat and 4 different cheeses, two servings of each. All our appetizers were good, definitely worth getting if you're there during happy hour. I got kale carbonara spaghetti which was another special they offered that night and my boyfriend got the pesto gnocchi. The carbonara was good, spaghetti cooked al dente, LOTS of pancetta. The kale which is grinder and mixed into the carbonara sauce made the pasta itself taste less heavy, really enjoyed this. Although I didn't feel like it had a heavy kale flavor, but definitely tasted like a good carbonara. The gnocchi was cooked pretty soft, and pesto was strong. String beans was a nice touch to it. Our food came out pretty quick, and the servers would take away our finished plates as soon as they noticed we were done. The waitress was also nice, came by a couple of time. Definitely give this place a try if you're around here and craving Italian. read more

This is the worst Italian restaurant I've been to in NYC. I cannot image why it has 4.5 stars. It must be that culinary idiots have been dining here. Look the people that work here are nice. The owner picked up that something was wrong when we asked if the Monk fish (special) was supposed to be served cold. I ordered a Negroni and my wife got some gin daily special. The Negroni was off and I'm a Negroni lover. I own books on Negronis. We had the arugula salad 3* the monk fish 1* cuz we didn't get food poisoning, the Bolognese 2* at best and you know what they say when at a new Italian restaurant try thr Bolognese if that's not great leave and my wife had the pesto gnocchi 1* could've been a TV dinner. I had a fun work lunch at Da Claudio last month while I was visiting New York. The restaurant was pleasant, nice and comfortable with an open, contemporary feel. I showed up with a cake, which the staff kindly offered to keep refrigerated while we ate. Service was good generally, too, friendly and accommodating and attentive. The food was great. I had the garganelli with wagyu bolognese and parmigiano. This was excellent, the rolled pasta cooked al dente, the bolognese and cheese meaty and satisfying. I got a cup of blood orange sorbetto for dessert, and this also hit the spot exactly, just a light, refreshing way to finish my lunch. If you're looking for a good Italian spot in the Financial District, Da Claudio seems like a pretty safe bet to me. I've only been this once, but I enjoyed my pasta and sorbet, and would definitely come back if I lived in New York. read more

Came here for happy hours with my friends after our first day back in the office, happy hour menu was short and they didn't have the drink I posted a few years ago when I came for happy hours... I decided to go for the amaretto sour cause you can't go wrong with this drink right?.... Boy was it strong with zero sour, my friend got the rosemary drink and I personally liked hers better, my other friend who loves amaretto sour tried my drink and said it was way too strong for her.. got the happy hour snacks.. cheese platter, calamari and the seafood bisque(highly recommend).. food was good, drinks was ok( too strong for my preference) servers were friendly overall had a good time with great friends here.. 3 happy hour drinks and 2 happy hour snack and one entree came out to $104.. which is pretty standard for city prices. This was a last minute stop and I was decently impressed. The gnocchi was pretty good and they were generous with the house servings of fresh bread. We had a group of nearly 20 people so sometimes restaurants either struggle with getting dishes out fast enough or the quality suffers. That was not the case here...everything was fantastic & the food freshness was top notch. The service was speedy and attentive & they made sure we had everything from drinks to silverware/plates. I also love the modern Italian decor which set this place up for a great ambiance. Pricing was fair for NYC prices...I would say it was well worth it for the quality of cuisine, prompt service & killer ambiance. Fun times were had! Came here on a Saturday with a group of 7 (we had a reservation)--2 babies and 5 adults. The service was impeccable and probably the best part of the meal. People were just so helpful and friendly and prompt with everything from water to drinks to food to wiping down the table. Really thoughtful given 2 tiny kids are a handful even at the best of times. The food was very solid although not mindblowing in any way. We started with the fritto misto (lightly fried seafood mix plus onions and an aioli), as well as the artichoke hearts and the zucchini blossoms stuffed with cheese. All tasty, although I found bits of the fritto misto a little bland and the aioli ran out. For entrees, we got 4 primis and 1 secondi. Seafood was fresh and excellent, and the lasagna was luscious. The gnocchi was undersalted but the texture of it was great--pillowy and awesome. Happy hour drinks were very solid ($11 each)--we got amaretto sour and rosemary lime gimlets. I came here on a late Sunday night, and this restaurant is nothing but the best! The staff was very nice and welcoming, not to mention the great conversation with the bartender, Eugene! I ate the spinach fettuccine and it was delicious. The pasta is house-made and tastes amazing! They have great portion sizes and the food came out with great timing. For dessert, I had the crostata di frutta, and it tasted so fresh and flavorful! All of the food was plated beautifully. Great option for dinner in FiDi! There aren't as many restaurants in this end of Manhattan, and for a nicer Italian place this was the prefect spot. The pasta was very fresh and the seasonal salad was creative and flavorful. Would especially recommend the Brussels sprouts. The ambiance was lovely and the staff was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Sunday night was pretty open with no reservations needed for a large party. My only hits are that the tiramisu was dry and it was a more expensive spot than I think was warranted - but it's NYC, so this is par for the course. read more

We live around the corner from Da Claudio, and order from them 2-3 times a week. Their food is great and, most importantly, consistent. And, it comes in 15-20 minutes every time! Claudio and his wife Linda are lovely people, and their staff is top notch, including their friendly delivery guys. Our mainstays are the fried artichokes, fritto misto, chicken milanese, garganelli bolognese, spaghetti carbonara, and the sauteed string beans. They bake their own bread, which is fabulous. And their tiramisu is the best! (The only thing on their menu that we don't like is the chocolate mousse torte - gummy texture and not great flavor). Highly recommended! read more

New York prices, but the service was wonderful and the food was above-average - so it was an overall enjoyable dinner experience for us at Da Claudio. I loved that they had a quite a few specials on the menu (a number of which involved lobster - my favorite!), but I ended up going with the first thing that I had set my eye on, the Black Linguine (squid ink pasta with prawns). It wasn't the best version I've ever had, but overall a satisfying meal, and the prawns were very fresh. My husband ordered the Tagliata (sliced strip steak with herbed potatoes) - the $42 price tag almost was a deal-breaker, but we decided to splurge and let me just say... it was a HUGE meal. Honestly, it was at least double the size of what I would generally expect for a steak dinner - and it was absolutely delicious too. The service was exceptional - prompt drink refills throughout the night, and they instantly brought us a brand new bread basket once we worked our way through the first (what can I say, we were hungry...). To be fair, it was about 9 PM at night, so it was pretty quiet in there, but I still always appreciate awesome service. The location was also super convenient for anyone staying in the Financial District - we were staying at the Moxy Downtown, and this place was literally right across the street. So, it was the perfect option for us on a night where we weren't wanting to venture far, but still wanted to feel like we were going out. All things considered, this place is a nice little Italian restaurant worth visiting. read more
