A very pleasant and surprising meal here! Came around 6 on a Friday night, there was a decent crowd but no wait. I was surprised at how big the space was, really liked the open kitchen as well. Decent happy hour deals as well that last until 7pm. We started with the meats and cheese platter for two, fried baby artichoke (both a part of happy hour menu) and burratta which was one of their specials of the night. The meats and cheese comes with 3 or 4 types of meat and 4 different cheeses, two servings of each. All our appetizers were good, definitely worth getting if you're there during happy hour. I got kale carbonara spaghetti which was another special they offered that night and my boyfriend got the pesto gnocchi. The carbonara was good, spaghetti cooked al dente, LOTS of pancetta. The kale which is grinder and mixed into the carbonara sauce made the pasta itself taste less heavy, really enjoyed this. Although I didn't feel like it had a heavy kale flavor, but definitely tasted like a good carbonara. The gnocchi was cooked pretty soft, and pesto was strong. String beans was a nice touch to it. Our food came out pretty quick, and the servers would take away our finished plates as soon as they noticed we were done. The waitress was also nice, came by a couple of time. Definitely give this place a try if you're around here and craving Italian. read more

This is the worst Italian restaurant I've been to in NYC. I cannot image why it has 4.5 stars. It must be that culinary idiots have been dining here. Look the people that work here are nice. The owner picked up that something was wrong when we asked if the Monk fish (special) was supposed to be served cold. I ordered a Negroni and my wife got some gin daily special. The Negroni was off and I'm a Negroni lover. I own books on Negronis. We had the arugula salad 3* the monk fish 1* cuz we didn't get food poisoning, the Bolognese 2* at best and you know what they say when at a new Italian restaurant try thr Bolognese if that's not great leave and my wife had the pesto gnocchi 1* could've been a TV dinner. I had a fun work lunch at Da Claudio last month while I was visiting New York. The restaurant was pleasant, nice and comfortable with an open, contemporary feel. I showed up with a cake, which the staff kindly offered to keep refrigerated while we ate. Service was good generally, too, friendly and accommodating and attentive. The food was great. I had the garganelli with wagyu bolognese and parmigiano. This was excellent, the rolled pasta cooked al dente, the bolognese and cheese meaty and satisfying. I got a cup of blood orange sorbetto for dessert, and this also hit the spot exactly, just a light, refreshing way to finish my lunch. If you're looking for a good Italian spot in the Financial District, Da Claudio seems like a pretty safe bet to me. I've only been this once, but I enjoyed my pasta and sorbet, and would definitely come back if I lived in New York. read more

Came here for happy hours with my friends after our first day back in the office, happy hour menu was short and they didn't have the drink I posted a few years ago when I came for happy hours... I decided to go for the amaretto sour cause you can't go wrong with this drink right?.... Boy was it strong with zero sour, my friend got the rosemary drink and I personally liked hers better, my other friend who loves amaretto sour tried my drink and said it was way too strong for her.. got the happy hour snacks.. cheese platter, calamari and the seafood bisque(highly recommend).. food was good, drinks was ok( too strong for my preference) servers were friendly overall had a good time with great friends here.. 3 happy hour drinks and 2 happy hour snack and one entree came out to $104.. which is pretty standard for city prices. This was a last minute stop and I was decently impressed. The gnocchi was pretty good and they were generous with the house servings of fresh bread. Wasn't a big fan of the calamari since I found it rather hard to eat (huge pieces). Overall, no complaints for Da Claudio. Good pick if you want quick, good Italian food. read more

Da Claudio did a fantastic job with their family style special menu for a birthday dinner that I went to a few weeks back. We had a group of nearly 20 people so sometimes restaurants either struggle with getting dishes out fast enough or the quality suffers. That was not the case here...everything was fantastic & the food freshness was top notch. The service was speedy and attentive & they made sure we had everything from drinks to silverware/plates. I also love the modern Italian decor which set this place up for a great ambiance. Pricing was fair for NYC prices...I would say it was well worth it for the quality of cuisine, prompt service & killer ambiance. Great option for dinner in FiDi! There aren't as many restaurants in this end of Manhattan, and for a nicer Italian place this was the prefect spot. The pasta was very fresh and the seasonal salad was creative and flavorful. Would especially recommend the Brussels sprouts. The ambiance was lovely and the staff was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Sunday night was pretty open with no reservations needed for a large party. My only hits are that the tiramisu was dry and it was a more expensive spot than I think was warranted - but it's NYC, so this is par for the course. read more

I came here on a late Sunday night, and this restaurant is nothing but the best! The staff was very nice and welcoming, not to mention the great conversation with the bartender, Eugene! I ate the spinach fettuccine and it was delicious. The pasta is house-made and tastes amazing! They have great portion sizes and the food came out with great timing. For dessert, I had the crostata di frutta, and it tasted so fresh and flavorful! All of the food was plated beautifully. Fun times were had! Came here on a Saturday with a group of 7 (we had a reservation)--2 babies and 5 adults. The service was impeccable and probably the best part of the meal. People were just so helpful and friendly and prompt with everything from water to drinks to food to wiping down the table. Really thoughtful given 2 tiny kids are a handful even at the best of times. The food was very solid although not mindblowing in any way. We started with the fritto misto (lightly fried seafood mix plus onions and an aioli), as well as the artichoke hearts and the zucchini blossoms stuffed with cheese. All tasty, although I found bits of the fritto misto a little bland and the aioli ran out. For entrees, we got 4 primis and 1 secondi. Seafood was fresh and excellent, and the lasagna was luscious. The gnocchi was undersalted but the texture of it was great--pillowy and awesome. Happy hour drinks were very solid ($11 each)--we got amaretto sour and rosemary lime gimlets. I love this place. Lower Manhattan is my favorite place to stay when I visit from upstate, and I took a chance on this spot about a block from lower Broadway a few years ago and I'm glad I did. We live around the corner from Da Claudio, and order from them 2-3 times a week. Their food is great and, most importantly, consistent. And, it comes in 15-20 minutes every time! Claudio and his wife Linda are lovely people, and their staff is top notch, including their friendly delivery guys. Our mainstays are the fried artichokes, fritto misto, chicken milanese, garganelli bolognese, spaghetti carbonara, and the sauteed string beans. They bake their own bread, which is fabulous. And their tiramisu is the best! (The only thing on their menu that we don't like is the chocolate mousse torte - gummy texture and not great flavor). Highly recommended! read more

New York prices, but the service was wonderful and the food was above-average - so it was an overall enjoyable dinner experience for us at Da Claudio. I loved that they had a quite a few specials on the menu (a number of which involved lobster - my favorite!), but I ended up going with the first thing that I had set my eye on, the Black Linguine (squid ink pasta with prawns). It wasn't the best version I've ever had, but overall a satisfying meal, and the prawns were very fresh. My husband ordered the Tagliata (sliced strip steak with herbed potatoes) - the $42 price tag almost was a deal-breaker, but we decided to splurge and let me just say... it was a HUGE meal. Honestly, it was at least double the size of what I would generally expect for a steak dinner - and it was absolutely delicious too. The service was exceptional - prompt drink refills throughout the night, and they instantly brought us a brand new bread basket once we worked our way through the first (what can I say, we were hungry...). To be fair, it was about 9 PM at night, so it was pretty quiet in there, but I still always appreciate awesome service. The location was also super convenient for anyone staying in the Financial District - we were staying at the Moxy Downtown, and this place was literally right across the street. So, it was the perfect option for us on a night where we weren't wanting to venture far, but still wanted to feel like we were going out. They told us to come back at 4:30 and so we did. We sat outside, ordered drinks and saw they had Carpaccio Di Bresaola on the menu which I had in Italy. It didn't disappoint. The drinks were unique as well. Service was attentive and dining area is lovely. The owner also checked on us. Would definitely go back here for lunch or dinner. Me & my friend came here for dinner. Before we went I called the restaurant to make sure theirs room for us on a thursday night. I got there & the place is spacious, elegant & romantic. They sat us in a nice booth area. Our waitress explains everything about the menu & very helpful in suggesting some food that my friend might want because shes very strict about her diet. To start off, they gave us a complimentary bread with coconut spread. It was okay. Not that tasty because the coconut tasted so plain. Appetizer: charred octopus- yukon potatoes, olive tapenade. It was crispy exterior bits while the interior is tender. It has its unique flavor that I like. The potatoes on the side makes it more delicious. Food: Market green salad w/chicken--beets, radish, pear, papitas, cabernet vinaigrette. This is my friend's food. I don't usually eat salad for my main course but I tried a little of this & it was great! The chicken was very flavorful & all of the ingredients was fresh & crispy. Squid ink linguinne w/prawns-- so this is my food. Wow! I'm impressed. Big serving of food & all in this plate is delicious! The pasta is perfectly cooked & the sauce is spicy that it adds flavor to the meal. Delicious! Da Claudio - Waygu lasagna! - Italian Near Me - New York, New York

I am a long-time fan of Da Claudio, which is just around the corner from work. I think I've had nearly everything on their menu at some point, but I like their heavier traditional offerings like lasagna and eggplant parm. I can't recommend their desserts enough, especially the cannolis--delicious! These positives all apply to dining in, however. A while back I was in the area and ordered takeout to support a favorite restaurant. I regretted it. The lasagna and eggplant parm were both in these small takeout boxes and could barely be considered a serving. Dining in-house gets you big boat style plates with the dishes featured in the center and a nicely shareable portion, so it was surprising to pay the premium for both the lasagna and eggplant, but to still be hungry after we ate them. The Brussel sprouts portion (also the same size box) was generous and delicious. What really got me was the drinks, though! I wanted to add a couple of drinks, again to support a beloved restaurant. They ended up charging me $17 for a plain Negroni! Seriously? And the apperol spritz we got was similarly overpriced. I don't mind a $20 cocktail that is well crafted, complex, original and with great ambiance, but the cost here was ridiculous. I regretted ordering from there at all, but it was too late to cancel the drinks by the time I saw what they were charging. The takeaway is to not do takeaway. Wait til the crisis is over and you can join them in-house again. read more
