Had a late lunch with my sisters on our way to Pechanga. I ordered the Vegan Jackfruit plate. It came with a vegetable egg roll, one scoop of white rice, a scoop of macaroni salad and a generous portion of jackfruit. The egg roll was freshly fried, and the Mac salad was creamy, cold and refreshing! Sadly, the jackfruit was...meh. I expected the jackfruit to have more flavor but tasted like it was straight out of the can. I added some of my sisters gravy to my dish and It eliminated the "canned" flavor, all it needed was a little spice and it would have been perfect! Service was ok, we ordered at the counter, was given a pager and seated ourselves. The girl at the register didn't speak much or even greet us...just took our orders and that was pretty much it. The restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of seating as well as an outdoor patio and banquet rooms. I'd definitely come back if I'm ever in the area. read more

Unfortunately, I feel this restaurant is to come to most takeout restaurants where they're just short changing their customers. They start off having good portions even though they're pricing is a bit on the higher side. At least you're getting your moneys worth in regards to portion size unfortunately now they're cutting the portion size almost in half so looks like they're going to have a drop in repeat customers as I don't see myself coming back here anytime soon, but the food seems to be tasting about the same. read more

Had this place bookmarked for awhile and finally got to have lunch here. The restaurant is clean, with island decor, and ample booth & table seating. In addition to breakfast all day, they have the typical Hawaiian plate lunches . I ordered the lechon fried pork belly plate, which included two scoops of rice and mac salad. The pork was cut up into perfect bite sized pieces, and not too greasy. I would've liked it to be more crispy but was delicious nonetheless. It also came with a side of sauce with onion & tomato, which was a perfect compliment to the dish. Will be back when in the area to try the loco moco! read more

SO GOOD! If you enjoy those uniquely Hawaiian flavors, Da Coconut Cafe is a must visit in town. They have all the expected Hawaiian cuisine but I highly recommend the teriyaki chicken and the chicken katsu. So packed with flavor and very juicy. Really excellent choice. Rice is rice but their sauce adds a nice sweetness and you can kick it up yourself with some sauce (also recommend!). My son even ate his food and he's a particularly picky eater. It's located in the Staters Bros parking lot on Temecula Pkwy so it's easy to access and there's plenty of parking. Absolutely worth the price and oh so yummy! read more

In my never ending quest to find good spam musubi, I stumbled across this place on yelp while driving to San Diego. I want to return and try other items from the menu at a later time when I am hungry for a full meal as the food in this place looked very good. Spam musubi: 3.5 stars. Spam Musubi is a comfort food that reminds me so much of my grandmother. Most Japanese/pacific islander people know what good spam musubi is and most know that the best is made at home. The folks here at Da Coconut Cafe make a good musubi, but it would have been better if they added a type of teriyaki sauce or something. Musubi is typically made with rice, seared spam, a smear of teriyaki / sweet sauce all wrapped in crispy nori. The Spam Musubi at Da Coconut cafe is sans teriyaki sauce. All it needs is just a thin layer of sweet sauce to compliment the savory umami flavor of the seared spam and the salty nori. Unfortunately this musubi although cooked properly (rice was good, spam perfect texture) was lacking this much needed sweetness - just a little goes a long way. Perhaps they serve their sauce on the side, but I was not offered any. Will I come back? yes. I'll give this place another try and sit down to eat a lunch or dinner dish. Service is very great and the cashiers are all friendly. Inside is nice and has a small area where they sell soy sauce, backpacks, leis, island snacks, i.e. They offer party rooms to rent. Food is delicious and price feels very justified considering how good their portions are, they hook you up for sure! I get takeout from here a lot but everything is THAT much better eaten fresh, plus the ambience is pretty cozy and the Hawaiian music is always a nice touch. If I wanna get lunch with somebody Da Coconut Cafe is one of the first to be considered! The male staff was very knowledgeable and kind; kudos to him. Definitely felt the Hawaii vibes with the decorations. Only thing is that I'm a bit disappointed with the lumpia since I got Vietnamese egg rolls instead. Please understand what lumpia is and not sell incorrect items. I myself am Filipino and never have I ever had lumpia filled with noodles and vegetables and rolled them out fat. Just change the name and it'll be cultural appropriate. Also didn't get sauce for my lumpia and if you know, lumpia sauce is different from egg roll sauce. On the other hand, I also ordered spicy mayo and house poke. Absolutely delicious! And probably the only thing I'd come here for. Has the right mix of flavors. Wished that they would put more poke for the rice to fish ratio and the price. My mother decided she wanted to try this place out as it offered more than Ono Hawaiian BBQ. So, we met up there after church. Inside was very spacious and a little dark because of the dark furniture and walls. There was some decoration and lights to lighten up the room, but not a lot. There were also a couple of private rooms for events. Service was good and the lady who helped us was nice. The food was good. The kalua pork in the Kanak Attack Fries was tender and had a smoky flavor to it. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice. So, the spicy mayo was a little above my spice threshold, but still good. The fries alone were average. I really liked the lechon kawali plate. The lechon was crispy and the fat melted in your mouth. It was a tad salty given how the lechon was cut into really small pieces. The macaroni salad was disappointing because there was no flavor. It seemed like they just tossed the macaroni and some shredded carrots into a bowl of mayo and mixed without any seasonings. The passion fruit smoothie was a little tart, but really good and refreshing. I'll definitely be back in the future to maybe try some other items and hopefully a better batch of macaroni salad. read more

Saw the menu and that they had items you usually don't see often at other Hawaiian food places so we decided to give them a try. Pretty big place with plenty of seating and really clean. I decided to get the Hawaiian plate, which is sort of a sampler mix, and my wife got the BBQ mix plate. Also ordered a malasada & some fried poi mochi (this was unique& tasty if you like mochi). When we walked in, it felt so cozy and peaceful. There's a bunch of different options, I went with the breakfast combo and my boyfriend got the combo plate with Kalua pork and teriyaki chicken. We also shared the Kanak fries because they sounded SO good. And they were amazing. Our food was brought to our table. Which I was surprised about because I thought we were waiting for our name to be called, which was sweet. Everything was so good. I have frequented this place for a while now because of their exceptional poke bowls. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, When I came in today to make my usual order I asked for some sauce on the side, as I usually do, and to my dismay they wanted to charge me for that. They went through the effort of keying in 0.54 for two sides of spicy mayo whose combined volume was barely enough to satisfy the thought of spicy mayo let alone the physical taste. Needless to say, I was taken aback. I don't care about the cost obviously, it's about the message being sent to customers: penny pinching. Not generosity. It's not unreasonable to expect a side of sauce to be given free of charge that is the status quo. The meal itself is tainted with the bad mood I now have and is no longer enjoyable. Do better. When it comes "Hawaiian" food I am a pretty tough cridic because I used to live in Hawaii. Most of the Hawaiian food restaurants here on the mainland are pretty much like L & L. What I mean by this the menu pretty much teriyaki this and that and I get it because they are catering to what the majority of people expect Hawaiian food to be. I've heard of Da Coconut Cafe through the Hawaiian music community because they have traditional Hawaiian music artists play there time to time. The restaurant is a good size a perfect venue for a decent size music gathering. They also have private banquet rooms if you want to book for a party or business meeting. Now for the food, for what it is it is good. The kalbi ribs were tender and not too much fat. the chicken katsu was lightly breaded, the chicken was tender and the serving portions is a good amount. I wasn't very impressed with their teriyaki chicken. It didn't seem like they marinated it long enough because there wasn't a lot of teriyaki flavor, nor was there any glaze to it. I was surprise that they offered lau lua. My wife ordered it, but they asked her to choose another entre because it wasn't thawed out. I'm not hold it against them for it being frozen, I don't think you could or would find anyone on the mainland to have fresh lau lau. If you're not familiar what laulau is you'll have to look it up. Props to them for having haupia filled malasadas!!! So in conclusion, did it remind me of Hawai'i, no, but the food was good. read more
