We got the macadamia nut encrusted seared tuna sandwich which at first was good but after a few bites was overwhelmingly greasy- And the tuna was over cooked. I love Da Kitchen. To digress for a second, this has nothing to do with their food, but they are the most efficient restaurant I've ever been to. First you get real time updates of where you stand on the waiting list via a smart phone app. It tells you how many parties in front of you, the size of those parties, and your approximate wait time. Then when you place an order your waitress PMs it to the kitchen so no delay and the waitress doesn't have to leave the customers other than to get food. Genius. To the food. HUGE menu. Biggest disappointment in our trip! We drove here expecting good, authentic Hawaiian food and it was cold and flavorless. Husband and I both ordered the kalua pork and it was very dry and lacked flavor. But, that's not even the start of my review.... So I also order a child's meal for my daughter, the fried mac n' cheese. She couldn't even touch it for the first 10 minutes because it was extremely hot. When she finally was able to, she spit it out. Tried it, and it was really pasty, like eating melted chalk. When I asked our oh-so-forgetful waitress, (it was our party and only one other in the back, in the afternoon, but she never came by our table for anything and kept forgetting items for us), I asked her if I could give back the order because it was unedible. She said she had to ask her manager because she was iffy on things like that. Fine. But 10 minutes later, I had to remind my waitress about the dish. Finally, about 15 minutes later, a gal comes to our table, "Yeah? What's the problem?" Wow. Really? No, "Aloha, I'm such and such, the manager here at...." There was no professional greeting, at all. But wait, it gets better... So I ask her if I could give back the dish that no one at the table was able to eat and she said "Well, what's the problem with it?" I only told her that my daughter refused to eat it. So she said "But what's the problem with it? If there's nothing wrong with it, then we can't take it back. You ordered it, we cooked it, you pay for it." I replied, "So we just pay for something no ones going to eat?" She basically said yes, and stormed off abruptly. Wow. That's fine. The dish was only $6 per se, but the principal of the matter is, the manager was very unprofessional and had no common courtesy towards her customers. Her lack of care towards the situation, or any other situation, does not belong anywhere in any business, especially if it deals with customer service. She could of given us a warm, hawaiian greeting, offered another dish possibly, or even just simply told us what she told us, nicely and in a professional way. She needs to go back to school and take professional business classes, at a real institute, and not refer to her business experience from the clown college she attended. read more

this time, we stayed near the airport. remembered that da kitchen was nearby so we grabbed dinner there. decided on the sumo combo!! we shared it although the waitress told us that some people eat the whole thing themselves. it was spam, kahlua pork, hamburger patty, chicken with potato-mac salad (or green salad) and scoops of rice. the hamburger patty was thick topped with onions. my favorite was the chicken but all of it was good except that the spam was too salty for my taste. all in all, a delicious island dinner. in and out in half an hour. =) read more

This hidden gem is tucked inside and unassuming store front but holy smokes you will be amazed. The service was incredible, friendly nice servers who have advise about the menu if you are stuck. Come here hungry! The first place to go after we land (after takinga trip to Costco). We came with a party of 11 who were tired of resort food. It hit the spot for them, especially since the were craving some rice and noodles. Some had the Hawaiian plate, with kalua pork, pork lau lau, lomi salmon. chicken long rice, and of course, 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad. Others had teri beef, with a mountain of meat. The katsu cutlet was even larger, with katsu and gravy. Couldn't finish it, took leftovers back. They have a keiki menu for the kids. Even item on there are huge. Ordered Saimin for younger daugher. It was pretty big, and ended up sharing with the other kids. Yes, more than what you would normally pay for plate lunch, but worth it. read more

This place is great. Lots of choices, great local Hawaiian specials, good sized portions! Our table had a variety. Stir fry, teriyaki burger (love it), fried fish, and burgers. Da best local food I've had in Maui. Portions are large (for mainlanders). LocoMoco was YUM-O (I gotta tell my cardiologist I ate this). I opted for the side green salad instead of the mac salad just to save a few calories. The mahi mahi fish 'n chips was crispy with 4 big pieces. Best I had on the island. This location, compared to the "Express" one in Kihei, has more menu items and bigger portions (& likewise slightly $). I will be back next time I'm in Maui. read more

This place is FREAKING AMAZING!!! We come to Maui once a year and this place is our first spot as soon as we leave the airport. I cannot say enough good things about Da Kitchen. As others have stated, the portions are HUGE (plenty to split or for leftovers), the service is fast and friendly, and the food is OMG AMAAAZZING! I always get the LOCO MOCO (regular/"traditional" one) and it is seriously the best thing ever! I don't even like mushrooms in general, but with their loco moco and the excellent mushroom/onion gravy I eat every last mushroom! The only downside is that their loco moco is so good that no other place will even come close, so basically I spend a year waiting to have my favorite loco moco lol. My husband (who is super picky) loves their Teriyaki Chicken...super tasty and flavorful with a lot of dark meat. Their MAC salad is also awesome, it's a mix of Mac and Potato salad. This year we also tried their Chili Fries, which were just as amazing as everything else. I seriously wish we had Da Kitchen in CA. read more

Da Kitchen Cafe, gives you a whole lot of Da Food! I came here with my family right after we arrived at the airport. There was a line and a 15-20 minute wait, but we didn't want to drive to Lahaina on empty stomachs. The plates are definitely meant to be shared. I had the Loco Moco and ended up only eating half. The house made lemonade is delicious. I got it in the mason jar so I could take it with me to hold my mai tais later on the beach. You can also get the food to go if you have to be on your way. The staff is friendly, but definitely a little short-staffed. No one seems to be assigned to an area of tables. No worries though. I always had my water glass refilled! GREAT place for a meal! Very ONO! Our server (forgot her name, lovely girl that was very friendly and helpful) was wonderful...which is always a plus...can't stand grouchy/unfriendly service. We had: 1) fried spam musubi - now, I like me my spam musubi, but Da Kitchen panko-crumbs it and fries it up...now I'm ruined from "normal" spam musubi forever! These are THE BOMB! Get them...no, seriously, GET THEM! They are SO good...I'd have stopped in to grab some for the flight home but they don't open at 6:30am. :( 2) kanak attack loco moco - HUGE and ONO! Enough here for 2-people, which is saying a lot for me and the wife as we're both foodies and can eat our share of a small village; chicken katsu, bbq chicken, bbq beef, egg, rice, and a mushroom-beef runny gravy (that's right, runny, as in soup-like, not the thick, gloppy gravy served everywhere else). Glad we ordered just one main dish to share, and this was a good one to get. 3) poi - mashed taro with some water and lemon juice (to keep it from turning color); tried it, not a fan, but at least we tried it. 4) Dole whip - Ok, I've had 3 Dole whips in my life, and this was the best one I've had; standard pineapple "ice cream", but super smooth and yummy! This is our third time back in 2 years. This restaurant is/was famous for its generous portions and quality cooking. We shared the mixed plate (beef, chicken, Katsu, fried fish) as usual, as it easily feeds two. However, this time we noticed a few changes: very small piece of beef, one chicken thigh instead of two, and the Katsu was soggy and tasted like it had been pre-cooked and warmed up slightly. The fish was excellent. I am wondering if everything else was pre-cooked and in warming trays so the restaurant could handle the lunch-hour crowds (we were there at 11:45). The attributes that defined this restaurant above other mixed-plate restaurants, were not there this time. Will be questionable if we return in the future. read more

The meals are huge and delicious, but my experience there was absolutely hell. the wait was about 30 minutes, and it was loud to the point you could barely hear the server over the people and the music. I ordered the Maui Fried noodles or maui stir fry. something like that. The waitress came back with a bowl of soup. i politely told her that i ordered the stir fry, to which she informed me that the soup and stir fry are pretty much exactly the same. (... theyre not. ones a soup. the other is dry... and fried. in teriyaki or whatever.) i continued to ask for my order of stir fry, and she told me she "didnt want to the waste the soup, so i should just take it." excuse me?? i told her that i wanted the stir fry, so she told me she would leave the soup for me as a side. I said its fine, i just want my stir fry because im not about to be charged for 2 meals. the waitress left with my soup, and came back with the same bowl of meat noodles and veggies without the water. she literally dumped out the water from the soup, and tried to pass it off to me as stir fry. what in the what?! at this point i had given up, so i ate my soggy veggie noodles and they were good. my family and i finished our meal and we got the check. the meal was incredibly expensive, and we realized that even though the waitress gave me a dumped out soup, she still charged us for the stir fry. Yeah. The foods amazing, but everything else.... not so much. its a cramped cave with absolute $*it service. Wont be going back anytime soon. read more

TGFY...Thank Goodness for YELP! My husband and spent 2 days in Maui and were just itching to eat where the locals dined. We had just left Honolulu and several extremely bad meals so I was so thrilled to find this place. We would have never found this place w/o Yelp! The loco moco was so DELICIOUS. I'd been eating healthy for so long I'd forgotten how good jasmine rice, beef and gravy tasted! The plates are way too big for one person. Oh, and the fish and chips...they were bigger than my face. I loved this place so much that during a 10 day Hawaii vacation, we stopped at this location twice and then discovered Honolulu opened a location...so we tracked it down and had our last meal there!
