I was in town visiting my husbands family in Rigby. My father insisted on going to the place for sushi. So if I'm giving a unbias review based on what I think without my father in laws love for the place I give it at 3 star. Couple things is service is slow. One waiter for every table. So if you come expect to relax a little while. Decor is great I love the feel of the place. Great selection of sushi!! Honestly I can't even remember what roll I got. I do know we order the volcano which I thought was our best roll we ordered. Mine lacked flavor though and the shrimp inside was very crunchy! My brother in law said his spicy tuna roll lacked spicy. My father in law really enjoys the ginger sauce they give you with your sushi. I'm a classic girl I like wasabi and soy sauce. As for my husband he got the pot sticker Dinner he loved the pot sticker but man was the "fried" rice a disaster to both looks and taste. Slow service. Multiple errors on the receipt. And they only allow one refill on drinks. What food we did get, when we got it, was good. We went for lunch with our kids on a Friday. We specifically asked for plain cheeseburgers for the kids, and double checked. They brought out teriyaki burgers instead. 30 min for the burgers. We got lunch specials which came 10 min after the burgers. I just would have thought lunch specials wouldn't have taken at much time. The waitress had some difficulty bringing side sauces and refills. But that's not on the restaurant. Teriyaki chicken was quite good when we got it. Gotta get the Mac salad with it! TLDR: Good but could be better I really enjoy this resturant, I usually come here to celebrate something of gravity like a break up or an end of a semester. The food is pretty spot on for Americanized food. The gyoza is my personal favorite, but I usually just get a Bento box which is good. The food here is amazing! I've had their Bugurs and platters and it was all yummy. I've never had to wait for a table, i always had my order out to my table within ten mins. Great vibe. My one issue is last I was there, after my sister and I had been served our food, we had 3 different servers come up to us to ask how our food was at least 5 times. Do you know how hard it is to enjoy your food when you're constantly being bugged? Our drinks were never past half full so we weren't in need of anything. Also our main server tried to give us the check as he delivered our food! I told him straight up no. So besides being rushed to finish our food and being checked on one too many times, this place is hard to beat! Great atmosphere and location, which is walking distance from campus. The food is great too albeit a little too over priced. Granted they have no competition around when it comes to the range and availability of their fare. I had their poke which was very good. Me and my boyfriend came in here because we had wanted to try this place out and they close at 10:00PM on Friday, but we showed up at 9:00PM WELL before closing time and they turned us away. This place is great!...for rexburg. Huge portion sizes and lots of flavor. I get Da Mix plate which has three different types of meat and my wife gets the kalua pork plate. The taste of the food is great and it really satisfies that Hawaiian food craving. Each dish for dinner comes with a side of Mac salad and your choice of fries, fried rice, or white rice. They also have tropical fruit smoothies and Hawaiian juices available. I will say, it's a little on the pricey side, but we will return regardless because it's so tasty and the portions give you enough for leftovers the next day. read more

When it came time to pick up the order was not ready and I stood around waiting for An additional 25 minutes!! They had me pay over the phone ahead of time (and tip! Ha!) Hey guys! This place has pretty good food, I like that there is a vegan option and I do like the atmosphere. The problem I find with this establishment is that it appears to be extremely understaffed. From when I came in as a party of one at 11:30 to when I left at approximately 12:45 there was only one server working the entire front of house. I do not know if the back was short staffed enough as well that the owner\manager was working back there. The only server was working as hostess, server, and busser (she didnt have time to bus though so plates were all just sitting). I had to wait probably about 4-5 minutes to get my drink, I also had to wait a while to get a refill inbetween and that was the only time I was checked on throughout the meal, I forgot to ask for a napkin at that time because I wasn't too far in, and I finished before she came back so I just ended up walking to the restroom to clean my hands and face. I think the server was friendly and knowledgeable, but management needs to hire more people and be able to help out if needed. In the past, at my old restaurant, we were particularly short staffed one day and the owner came out to host and bus in order to get us through the day, that is what is required to ensure proper service in my opinion. Also one thing that bothered me and changed me from a 3 star to a 2 star is that they put raw fish on the corner of my plate, and as a vegan the stench got to me a little during the meal. I don't believe raw animals should be included on a dish advertised as vegan. Thanks for reading, guys! This is the only place to get fresh sushi in Rexburg and the surrounding area, which makes it an oasis for sushi lovers like me. It features an authentic Hawaiian style menu with many island and Asian dishes. The kalua pig plate, mahi mahi, chicken katsu, pok'e, and curry, are among my favorites. They even have quirky Hawaiian specialties like the moco loco and spam musubi (be brave and try 'em). For me, their diverse and innovative sushi menu is the highlight. While obviously not as fresh as you'd get in a coastal area, the sushi is surprisingly good for a small rural community. Eleena's Specialty roll is worth a try, as is the Kohala Volcano roll. My favorite is the Big Kahuna roll: spicy crab, shrimp, salmon, onion, on the inside of tempura cooked roll which is topped with sashimi and covered in a ponzu and secret sauce. It is so good, my mouth is watering as I type this. Service is usually a little slow, making a quick lunch difficult. It can also be bit pricey for Rexburg (the sushi adds up quickly), but worth it if you long for a taste of the islands. read more

I hope I don't come off as a stuck-up Southern Californian, but my first time at Da Pineapple Grill, I wasn't expecting very good sushi. I was wrong. Their sushi is fresh, well put together and tasty. I usually prefer my sushi raw, but they have a cooked roll that is fabulous (I wish I could remember what it's called). It's a crab roll topped with crispy Mahi Mahi, shrimp and a citrus sauce. My husband and I only come for the sushi and we're satisfied every time. The service it good too. I am really surprised this place hasn't been reviewed yet. It's in a small strip mall near a college campus and it has kind of a ecclectic flair to it. It can be a bit hard to find as the store front is dark and black and the lettering is hard to see unless it is broad daylight. You look at the place and you see "Da Pineapple Grill", now what the heck is a pineapple grill? Well as it turns out it is a hawaiian/japanese fusion type restaurant. The inside is rather understated. About 25 tables or so, an ocean front painted on the wall and hawaiian music playing on the speakers. The menu is dominated by a heavy selection of various types of sushi. They also have some unusual salads, grilled fish, sandwiches and so on. I decided on the Volcano Joe as I love the hot stuff, especially wabasi. We also ordered an appetizer plate which featured a variety of tempura fried vegetables and spring rolls. The appetizers came after about 20 minutes and quite frankly, the best phrase I can find for it is "unexciting". Some watery sauces and fried foods. Best part of the plate was the tempura fried sweet potato. That was pretty good eating. The main course came right on the heels of the appetizers. The Volcano Joe has a lot of visual appeal, 20 sushi pieces stuffed with crabmeat and other goodies with a yellow sauce and fried crunchies on top. It didn't taste as exciting as it looked as it did not come with wabasi and ginger. The sauce looked hot, but it tasted like perhaps it was a blend of mayonnaise and chinese mustard. A bit disappointing really. Service was slow. The waitress, while very nice was kind of absent minded as she kept forgetting little things like plates to go with the appetizers and forks for the food. I give them an extra star for being original. I will have to try this place again as they do seem to have a lot of promise, they just fell a bit short on this night. read more

Sushi and other asian type dishes are the fair here, but everything I have ever tried here is above average. The sushi is out of this world. Try Eleena's special or the Volcano Roll. This is known as the only "hawaiian" restaurant in the area. It definitely is the best place to get sushi! Da Pineapple Grill features many authentic and americanized hawaiian foods, with the most popular being the kalua pig plate, I've been told.. When we dined there we got variations of the chicken teriyaki and beef teriyaki, each were delicious. We were seated quickly and given a few minutes to look over the menus before ordering drinks/appetizers. Everything came fairly quickly, although at times you forget you have a waitress. The decorations might be a little cheezy for some, but it definitely could be much worse. There are a few tiki torches and statutes but aside from that, it's a nice place to eat. As far as Rexburg goes, it can get a little on the pricey side, which makes this more of a special occasion restaurant for my budget, rather than a weekly trip. We waited over an hour for our food before one of us got up and went directly to the kitchen to ask for our plates. Fried food taste like crap cold, one of our dishes was not what we ordered. then on the receipt they had the gall to charge an 18% tip!!! Awesome food! I had Da Mix Plate with the Beef Teriyaki, Chicken Teriyaki and Kalua Pork. I am not much of a pork fan, but the Pork melts in your mouth. I really liked the Beef Teriyaki. We really enjoyed the food here! It was a little pricey, but they had specialty rolls that were really good! We had a Volcano roll and that was so flavorful and unique, and a rainbow roll, a Kuialoha (sp?), a rainbow roll, and the meat platter.
