Small old schoolish diner, cool decor Scott the owner is a great guy, food is solid and consistent, we usually go for the creative specials on the weekend. Would rate them higher but their prices and have been creeping up and have now exceeded what a decent breakfast should cost in the tri-city area, $17 for a steak skillet is steep, sunrise sampler is now $9. Positively our favorite breakfast diner - sit at the counter if you can and watch the chef make your omelet and ginormous pancakes. This is a family-friendly place (now under new ownership - Kathy is no longer there) called Daddio's. The new owners have the same philosophy as Kathy and have kept all of the original staff from what we can tell. I always order the omelet, my husband has had the skillets and love them. The pancakes are the best you'll find - but you only need to order one as they're huge. It's crowded on the weekends but people move through quickly and definitely worth the wait. read more

I've never had a bad experience here! This place has the friendliest, most efficient staff and phenomenal down-home food. You can find any breakfast classic on this menu, and done right. But, they do keep things new and exciting with a specials menu that changes weekly - can I get an AMEN for the "No-way Jose!" special?! The atmosphere is also very cozy. It's a small space but it fits the Daddio's vibe perfectly. Great Breakfast! Quick service, not rushed (there is a difference) and my coffee was kept fresh. Great selection on the menu and specials. Two thumbs up from my kids. My oldest had the "Ditka" skillet - all kinds of breakfast meat and my other son had the nutella stuffed French toast. I had a breakfast panini with hash browns. Definitely a good choice for breakfast if you are anywhere nearby. Breakfast entrees run from $6 to $13 (the Ditka with a ton of meat.). There is plenty of parking and they do have tables outside if the weather is cooperating. read more

A classic American greasy-spoon. It's a small busy restaurant with lots of people waiting to be seated, but the turnover is pretty quick, so don't expect to wait too long. Even during peak Saturday morning breakfast time, 9:30am, we waited only 15 minutes and was offered a coffee while waiting to be seated (unique customer service!). The atmosphere is very retro and the energy is great! I ordered the cinnamon swirl french toast made with an egg challah bread - it did not disappoint. The only thing which would have made it perfect would be to offer REAL 100% maple syrup, not the bulk, maple tasting, HFCS based table syrup typically offered at breakfast restaurants. Living north of the mason-dixon line, I assumed most servers know the difference between the two, but ours did not. As a Canadian, real maple syrup has s distinct taste that enhances any breakfast pancake, french toast or Belgian waffle, and also something that I would be willing to pay extra for The hash browns were well cooked to order. The breakfast sausage was generous size. The "scrambled" eggs are not really scrambled, it just resembled an unfolded omelet that was chopped with a spatula. When I asked about the scrambled egg appearance, the serve dismissively said "That's the way it is cooked here" The portions are generous, so if you have the appetite of a pregnant woman or Michael Phelps, no need to add more than what they offer each order. Even my wife who ordered a reduced size pancake, needed help finishing as it was served with her skillet meal (which she enjoyed). I was satisfied just completing 3/4 of my meal. in a nutshell, large quantities of an average size meal is not much to rave about. The value is good. It is the unique ambiance, quick service, and observing the restaurant owners hustling AND engaging the customers might bring me back for a second experience! read more

It was okay the food is exactly what you'd expect from a place like this:good but not memorable. It also took 45 min for our food to be ready, which wouldn't have been an issue however this couple who got there after us got served. The whole process of this place is confusing we didn't know we were supposed to seat ourselves which resulted in us standing there for a while. Also if you pay with a card they don't have you sign anything and they ask how much you want to tip. As a first timer I was not prepared for this, and it was confusing. Overall, good but not great. We spend weekends sometimes looking for new places to try and this popped up. Food was OK, but nothing we would go out of our way for. Staff was pleasant but accommodations are veer cramped. It was a cold and drizzly early evening, just before 5:00, when my wife and I decided to grab a bite before heading to a later engagement. Something about this particular evening made the word "Diner" that much more enticing, and since our first stop at Batavia Diner was thwarted by their early closing hours, we headed to Daddio's. As we approached and found no one in plain view inside, we were already on guard to the possibilities that they too were closed. But, upon proceeding in, an employee (or very possibly the owner) came from the back and greeted us very warmly. He mentioned the weather and properly predicted our previous curiosity as to whether or not they were open. He (I wish I knew his name so that I could refer to him more appropriately) directed us to sit anywhere we wished and handed us a list of the daily specials. I have to note the presence of one of my favorite, yet elusive, diner foods, "Southern Fried Chicken". I refer to it as "Chicken Fried Chicken" but, no matter the name, breaded and fried chicken breast with warm gravy and mashed potatoes are tough to beat. "He" made just the right amount of small talk, allowing us ample time to peruse the menu, place our order, and eat, while still remaining friendly and congenial. I had the "La Bamba" skillet, extra jalapeños. "He" then proceeded to read my mind as I was offered warm corn tortillas instead of toast, which I immediately accepted. My wife had a smoked ham and cheese sandwich on a pretzel roll and homemade potato chips, along with a bowl of soup. All met her expectations equally. I should mention that the chips here are chips, not an English word for fries. I enjoyed my food equally, with average portion size and made to order quality. As I sometimes feel the need to do, I'll mention that 3 stars is "A-OK". It does not, in any way, mean "sub standard". This is a good place to eat, with friendly service at the proper price point. I do work in the area, but don't frequent Batavia for dinner options. That said, I will consider Daddio's again if the stars align on it's behalf. read more

The perfect spot when you are looking for a diner. Great food, diner style dishes and coffee. I would call this a great dive place, but the food is better than your typical dive. I really enjoyed my breakfast there. The only downside is that it is tiny and can be cramped. If you can put up with that and potentially a bit of a wait, this would be a great place to eat. read more

I got the south of the border omelette with an extra egg, huge portion, well priced, cooked right in front of me on the flat top grill. The food was great, not overly greasy as they can sometimes be in diners. Friendly staff! Their BLT looked pretty tasty as it was carried past me to it's rightful owner at another table. I held out on coming here for the first 5 months I lived here. Now I come 4+ mornings a week. Fair prices, top notch service, friendly people, and the coffee hits the table before I can even sit down. They mix it up with some interesting stuff on the weekends, also, especially if you like Mexican food I would recommend it. This is probably the worst place imaginable to eat. First, 3 days a week they are closed by 2pm. Second, the owner of the restaurant is a jerk. He's unfriendly to staff as well as patrons, and he seriously needs an attitude check. The menu is very overpriced, food is just ok. Cookies are absolutely terrible! I would never go back unless it was under new ownership. There is patio seating, but it's also downwind from the sewage treatment plant, so inside is best....if you're lucky enough to get waited on. Took my two year old out for breakfast at Daddio's. Server never checked on us after food was brought to our table. Didn't even check to see if we needed refills. Half way through my meal, I found a hair caked on to my plate. My meal was comped (which was expected). Found that the cook wasn't wearing gloves and a hairnet or hat. On a food scale, I would say it was quality of a traditional diner...average. I wrote a letter to management regarding my experience, but no response back after a few weeks now. Its ok. Went in for breakfast. Like the decor . . .the service was great and really friendly, but the food suffers from how should I say it . .. .cheapness??? The food is not terrible but its not that good either. Example this famous large pancake for 5.95 comes out... looks great . . .but with country crock? really? wheres the butter?? And the pancake itself kind of taste less ... nothing to make me come back. All the other food is the same, not terrible but not that good either.... just taste cheap like they don't really use anything good in the cooking. If you like diner food served in a nicer atmosphere this is the place just not for me. when when when is Batavia going to get a place that can serve decent food. read more

The food is pretty good and they are super friendly in there. Our only beef is that it has taken forever and a day to get our food both times we've eaten there and they didn't bring it to us all at one time. When you have smaller children and they are starving... having them see someone else get their food and have to wait another 5 minutes for theirs is torture :) We realize the grill is pretty small and they want to bring your food when it's hot, so recommend this place for smaller parties. If you have a family of 4 or more, expect a little longer wait for food. There really isn't seating for a party of more than 6 people... it's a very small neighborhood diner atmosphere. read more
