I think this place is over rated. It's probably ok if you are a native Hawaiian. If your from the mainland there is a chance you might not get your meal at all, that was our experience. If you do get your meal, you will have to wait much longer to get your food. LOVED breakfast here. Ok. So first of all, if they tell you they have fresh papaya, order the papaya. It's unlike any papaya you've ever had. It's absolutely terrific. Now on to the absolute star of the show. The fried chicken. Wow. Best fried chicken I've ever had. I've had fried chicken in Harlem. I've had fried chicken in several places in the South. This is the best. The skin was the crispiest skin ever and it was so delicious. We are going back here tomorrow for breakfast and possibly again once more before we leave just so we can have more of this chicken. (deep breath) The stuffed french toast was also really really good. The fruit on top was super fresh, the bread was fluffy and delicious and the blueberry cream cheese is as good as it sounds. Also worth noting, we were served by the owner of the restaurant and he was great. He was welcoming and informative. I can't recommend this place enough. I have to say that I come to Hawaii at least once a year and finding great breakfast places is my thing. My sons will eat Loco Moco anywhere but I have never tried it, I'm more of a crab cake Benedict or pancake kind of girl. I decided to give the Loco Moco a try after all these years ...WOW!! They absolutely loved their food and the French toast came with tons of fresh fruit on top! My loco moco was HUGE! Eggs cooked perfectly, meat and gravy super flavorful. This is the worst meal I have had in a long time. They didn't have my first choice so I ordered fish and chips. When my food came they had additional sides that I did not order. Chips are ok. Nothing special. Fish is horrible. Very dry inside, greasy exterior, no seasoning. The solution offered was half off on the fish. I did eat some of the fries and 2 bites of fish. The last challenge was I ordered some shredded cheese on the side. I got one tablespoon of cheese and they charged me $4. The other food being served looked good and people seemed happy with their selections. If you eat here, stay away from the fish and chips. read more

Needed a quick breakfast stop before hitting the airport. This looks like a hole in the wall but inside is a clean coffee shop. My travel companion is all about Spam and she was excited to see Spam on the morning menu. We were greeted with a smile and informed that the breakfast/lunch menu was served all day. I spied a beautiful presentation of french toast with fruit but opted for eggs. I am a bit picky about my scrambled eggs, don't want them cooked too much and dried out. My breakfast arrived and I was very happy to see scrambled eggs cooked perfectly. That earns a star in itself. The Not-So-Early Special of 2 eggs and your choice of breakfast meat for $5.99 is a bargain and just the right amount of food for the flight back to the mainland. We arrived here shortly after arriving on the island around 9am and the wait was about 45 minutes, but it was worth it. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food was fresh and tasty. We only encountered one issue here which was that our server took down one of our orders incorrectly. Another staff member came back to verify the order and it was straightened out - no biggie. It was warm and welcome from the start! The servers/owners were kind and making fun of another which also made us and our fellow patrons laugh. I appreciate it when coworkers can give each other crap in public. We had the broasted chicken lunch plate (3 giant pieces with a scoop of mac salad and rice) and the honey garlic chicken plate, subbing the rice and mac for a small side of lettuce greens. Both were excellent using high-quality dark chicken wings and thighs for the broasted plate, and what seemed like breast pieces for the honey garlic. Clean, rich flavors all around. They are located in the Rice Shopping center between Robs Good Times Grill and Lihue Bowling Center. The restaurant is relatively new so the interior is fresh, clean and comfortable. This place is packed! I can tell you that right off the bat. About 90% locals 10% tourist demographics. Seating is a little tight and you may have to wait 5,10 maybe 15 minutes, but nothing too crazy. The menu here is BIG! They have many choices and they all seem to be very well made and thought out. All the breakfast favorites are present: loco mocos, local breakfast plates with spam and Portuguese sausage, eggs benedict, waffles, pancakes etc. Theres lots of stuff for lunch too! Broasted Chicken, a big BLT, soft shell crab sandwich, steaks, shrimp, roast pork, Oxtail Soup and beef and tripe Stew to name a few. From just one visit I can tell you that I'll be a regular here. The spam was great-nice and crispy on the outside. Scrambled eggs were excellent. Pancakes were nice and fluffy. My waffle was ok. The tables all had syrup already on them- which is convenient, but cold. Cold syrup doesn't melt butter and makes waffles cold. I should've noticed the syrup and ordered differently. Duh! This is our last day on the island and just had to swing by and try their secret menu Daddy recommended. Omg!!! I had the da kind special and my husband had the short rib Moco. The da kind special came with beautifully presented stuffed French toast AND pancakes with fresh strawberries, blueberries, bananas, pineapple, and whipped cream. But that's not all...it had a delicious egg on top of a yummy burger all atop rice (aka loco Moco). The perfect blend of "sweet and savory". I had enough to give to my twin boys but I made sure I took my fair share since it was soooo "ono". If you are a big eater, get the kids their own da kind special to split because you will not want to share this!! My husband's short rib moco was so good too. The ribs were so tender, sauce delicious and rice spot on! Daddy and family are always here. Be sure to shoot them a friendly smile and warm hello because they singlehandedly run this business which I can imagine is exhausting. Really looked forward to having lunch here but was very disappointed. My husband ordered the chili and broasted chicken. When the order came, no chicken. They told him to keep eating the chili and would bring out the chicken. At least 10 minutes later, the chicken was brought to our table. When my husband cut into it, it was totally raw. Our waitress apologized and my husband ordered a different lunch which was ok but I was obviously finished with my soft shell crab salad by then. Really? You expected him to eat raw chicken? You apologized for not bringing the chicken originally but never came over when you heard the chicken was served raw. That's what made my blood boil.
