Good food, good service. It can and will get busy on the weekends and you can usually find a line out the door but they have it down to a science and move people in and out. The specials are always new and different. For a guilty pleasure, try to the cream cheese stuffed french toast. So good! Went in on a Wednesday morning with only a handful of tables filled, we ended up leaving without ordering because we were repeatedly ignored by our waitress. Even after flagging her down, she still proceeded to assist others that came in after us. Me and my girlfriend decided to come here for breakfast. As we walked in we were not welcomed or acknowledged for a number of minutes before being notified that there would be a wait. After said wait we were sat to a booth, we then waited 10 minutes to get our drinks, and another ten to order. At this point in time we were about to call the quits and go somewhere else. But we were hungry and I insisted we stay and give them a chance because they were mildly busy. After ordering we waited another 20 minutes for our food to come. And even then the waitress then notified us that my girlfriends pancakes were brought to the wrong table, and the only compensation we received was the offer to have them make more or not receive any from the order. I then asked if they can remake them. When we got our breakfast, which was a lot of different things. I was so disappointed. The sausages looked burnt to a crisp, the corned beef hash looked like puke, and the home fries bland. When my girlfriend got her pancakes they looked like chocolate chips pour right on top of the batter and flipped twice if we were lucky. Came almost 40 dollars. Small diner, great breakfast foods! My favorite is the fresh waffels with strawberries and whipped cream. The only bad thing is the service. I would not use the term "bad", but instead slow. For even the simple items such as water or toast u end up waiting a long time. One time I had to end up leaving for work and my friend ate my breakfast for me. I haven't been to this place that many times but every time i've gone there i've been impressed. The place is really really clean. It has a nice atmosphere, it kinda makes you feel like you're not in CT and you're somewhere else . It looks like its ran by a family. The staff is super nice they will get you whatever you need. The menu is alright nothing crazy special. This place is nice to go for the atmosphere. The food is alright i personally feel like i could copy the same quality at home. Going to Dad's is like visiting friends. They make you feel so welcomed. They get to know you. You don't even feel like in at a restaurant. You feel like you're at a friends house. They get to know you by name. The food is outstanding. Nothing like Barb's chili (the regular chili). I love to get a chili dog with fries and a bowl of chili with Dad's bread to take home for dinner. They have homemade desserts as well. Delicious. Their breakfasts are so good you'll want to get up early and hurry down there. The little bit of a wait you have is so worth it. You don't wait long in line. They open at 6 AM. At Dad's there is something for everyone. You will not be disappointed. On Christmas Eve they put out a free dessert table and they host different events during the year. WAY BETTER THAN RICKS! I have two faves from Chrissy at Dad's. One is the most AWESOME coleslaw you ever had in your life! Holy Moly!!! I would eat it on every plate at every sitting if I could. Her other specialty is her homemade Corned Beef Hash. Goodness Gracious, it is orgasmic! I was in attendance at a group meeting, and a gent had ordered it, and me, and two other ladies HAD to try it. Dad's has clearly been our favorite restaurant, with everything you'd want for a family or individual breakfast. Food, staff, price and service are "the best", and I can honestly say we have never, ever been disappointed. I rarely arrive with a b'fst item predetermined, as their Menu Board always gives me a challenge on what "creative" item to choose from. They're real specials, not highlights from their great menu. The staff are familiar faces who are professional and personable, skilled in handling a busy environment, especially on a Sunday morning. That's our favorite day, despite being prepared for a line out the door, that I'd handled in an expedient manner. Regulars like us don't ask for or expect special seating rights, as we wait in line, outside if necessary, until our turn comes up, knowing it's always worth the wait! My weekday mornings are special trips, too, often as a post Dr. appt. self reward, or a treat for our grandkids. We have friends from Milford who occasionally make the 30 min. drive, having shared our recommendation with them. I remember coming here with my own dad a few years ago and it being far superior to Ricks just down the road at a time where people couldn't stop raving about Ricks (why on earth I'll never know) but Dads was a solid breakfast place then. Today was a super different story. When a customer orders coffee, odds are they're going to have a refill or two. When they ask for Splenda and you bring two packets, it's not only annoying because now I have to ask for more each time you come back with a coffee pot, but it's also insulting. I'm not going to take your splenda home. Additionally the quality factor has largely decreased. Where Dads used to use real, delicious chocolate chips in their pancakes, they are now using the super cheap, small chips that have zero chocolate flavor. Couple that with the exactly three banana slices in my pancakes and after half of one I was ready to throw them away. The worst part about this morning was listening to the apparent owner go on a rant for a good half hour at least about an employee who had made a few mistakes at their 1985 cash register. She kept saying how someone she trusts with her life told her they had received too much change and she just couldn't lose money like that. Listen, you're a small business owner, serving a mediocre at best breakfast a mile from an Ihop and feet from a well loved competitor, of course you can't have cash walk out the door. But can you afford the lack of quality in your ingredients, the severely dated decor, having a ridiculously inappropriate conversation about an employee to your other employees in your main dining area with customers seated around you? We werent the only customers there. This staff could be anyones relative, you have no idea and as a business professional you should know better. What is the percent of your patronage that looks forward to seeing this staff when they choose your establishment over the others on Rt 5? How much business will you lose? How does discussing this staffs errors publicly to your other staff affect THEIR morale? This is NOT the Dads I used to patronize with my own dad. Not even close and it really is a shame because once upon a time after Bickfords had closed and left Wallingford desperate for a good breakfast spot, Dads really owned it and was the only place to go. read more

I would like to give Dad's restaurant in Wallingford Ct a 5 star review. I went in there with my girlfriend for breakfast after a work out. Chrissy the owner is greeting you with a big smile walking around and making sure everyone is taking care of. The food, OMG!!! I had the special sandwich with avacado, egg, bacon, Swiss cheese on rye , I think it is one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches I ever had!! I also had the fruit cup and what is so wonderful about the fruit cup is the fruit is fresh and is cut up to the perfect size. It was just delicious and a wonderful start to a Sunday. read more

My eggs came out perfect which is rare i like them over medium no slimy whites for me please! The pancakes are fluffy and delicioius i had mine with fresh strawberries. yum! the pancakes are huge so i have to ask for one pancake and a small one. Love the bacon they even make it just how i want extra crispy but not burnt. I've been to Dad's a bunch of times I'd say starting in 2011. At first I thought it was great. Great service and great food. Lately however, the food stinks. The last 3 times i've gone for breakfast it has not been worth it. I'm normally A Sunday morning customer but I went two Saturdays in a row and I asked for wet eggs and they came out so overcooked I couldn't tell the difference between them and a tree in the petrified forest. On the other hand the home fries were almost like raw potatoes. I chalked it hope, I was hoping and praying to a different person working on Saturday mornings. Then last Sunday i went and the same thing. After 10 experiences that I would consider top notch and 4-5 stars, the last 3 have been 1 to 2 stars. The state of the breakfast choices in Wallingford however still puts Dads better than many. At one time I'd have highly recommended Dads but now all i can muster is 3 stars and dropping. Dads please get back to what you once where so i can return and recommend others. read more

Took my husband here for the first time today. He tried the Hungarian pancakes, delicious and he couldn't finish them. I tried the thanksgiving dinner omelet, turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing and turnips in an omelet, never would have thought of this combination, it was yummy!! The staff is pleasant, but they don't seem to listen to requests. The only thing on the tables was regular sugar, ketchup, and creamers. I had to ask 3 times for Splenda. The food was ok but the portions were small compared to those at Ricks Restaurant one block away. I had toast with my order and there were no jellies on the table. I had asked 4 times for jelly, I gave up and just dunked my toast in my coffee. When they brought us our bill, I had one piece of toast left...I didn't care about the jelly any longer. However, my girlfriend reminded the waitress for the 5th time that I was waiting for jelly. I finally was given some grape jelly with a half slice left. I'm glad i like grape as I was not asked what type I might like. I think the place could use a little upgrade as everything is very dated inside. I wouldn't want to sit at the counter as it was very dark and dreary. read more
