Thank you Groupon for introducing us to Dad's. My wife and I arrived a little after 10AM to find the restaurant to be reasonably busy. On entering we were greeted with a smile and offered a booth which we accepted. In short order we received menus with drink orders taken that were soon filled. My wife initially requested stuffed French toast, but our server asked if she had seen the specials board which listed blueberry cream cheese stuffed French toast. No and yes my wife replied, no she had not seen the specials board and yes to bringing her an order of blueberry cream cheese stuffed French toast with vanilla drizzle. I decided to stay the course and ordered eggs Benedict with runny eggs requested. Hers was very good, perhaps a bit too much cream cheese, but that probably falls into the eyes of the beholder category. My eggs Benedict may have been what Mae West was referring to when she said "too much of a good thing can be wonderful". Perfectly prepared eggs, the best Hollandaise sauce this side of Holland (or is it France?) and a copious amount of home fries. This may very well have been the best Benedict since I lost my personal Battle of the Bulge some 25 years ago. Have I mentioned that service was excellent? Let me provide an example, my wife, a.k.a the designated coffee drinker, never came close to seeing the bottom of her cup during the entire 40 minutes we were in the restaurant. By the way, the designated coffee drinker proclaimed the coffee to be very good. My recommendation is to take Neil Diamond's advise and "pack up the babies and grab the old ladies" and bring them to Dad's for breakfast. Since Father's Day is just around the corner, you might also consider packing up the old man as well. read more

This place never disappoints. I see some negative reviews which are ridiculous. Their pancakes are hands down the best, even the plain ones pack plenty of flavor. As for the rest of the menu, the hollandaise is very creamy and rich. My wife's go to is the California benedict and I honestly in the 50+ times that I have been there have never had anything shortnof amazing. My only "complaint" well i guess there are 2 is A: no sausage gravy and biscuits B: hands down you have the best hash lets all be honest it is amazing....so how about a Corned beef hash benedict??? You're welcome. Hmmm apparently you have 1 upped me. How have I never had that and I will call you next week before I head up. And yes I am still driving an hour regardless because it is that good. read more

Took my three kids here and the result was good basic comfort fare. This place won't blow you away but the prices are decent and the food is above average. Just do not make the mistake I made and order iced coffee which was basically water. Other than that, kids enjoyed the waffles and pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast... all devoured. We popped in during our work day to check on our donation bin that they are hosting and decided to eat . My hubs got the breakfast and I had the California Cobb . It came out fast , fresh And delicious . The atmosphere was lovely and the staff was super courteous. Not a 5 star review because of the food or waitresses. Today we took our 3 year old gal to this restaurant for her third birthday before her "shopping day". Our girl actually began to choke on the bacon!! (Though no fault of the restaurant). The waitresses were useless as I called out for help and they proceeded to cash out customers and bring out plates of food. THANK GOD MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO PERFORM A SORT OF CPR which resulted in.... U guessed it! Ruining meals for other patrons. Why did I rate them 5 stars you ask??? Because the manager (or owner) was the sweetest soul I have met in a while. The first thing you notice about Dad's is the owners affection for Bon Jovi. There are posters and pictures scattered on the walls. Please, Bon Jovi, if you're reading this: please go visit this establishment. The food was excellent but the real star of the show is their waitress Doreen. The sweetest, cutest, little gem in all the land. I would go back again and again just to be served by this lady. The rest is the wait staff are just as kind. Highly recommend. I haven't written a review in a while but after yesterday experience I feel obligated too. I've been to Dads probably 10 times in my life and have always had a great experience. Friendly wait staff and good food. Yesterday was a mixed day. The waitress was friendly but still served me burnt unappetizing toast. In addition to that it was moldy. I confirmed with my date and we both agreed as we've all seen moldy bread. I called the waitress over pointed it out to her and she quickly apologized after seeing it and agreeing it was mold. After returning from the kitchen she tried to sell me that is was avocado. Mold and avocado have distinct colors and I told her she knew herself that it wasn't true and she said "I'm sorry" and walked away. Since I hadn't planned on eating the toast anyway I ate my steak and cheese omelette which was great. I can't help but wonder if the toast was burnt intentionally to hide the mold as I've never been served toast like that in this establishment. Questioning wether I would return solely on them not accepting their wrongdoing and trying to convince me otherwise. Hi Christine thank you for your response and kind gesture however I will respectfully disagree. I did not mention a color in my review. I've seen mold on bread and it's very distinct. The bluish green color on the toast was not on the surface it was embedded in the bread. My companion confirmed my thoughts as did your waitress by her expression alone. Even if it was avocado which I strongly believe it was not. What if I were allergic? Wouldn't it have been a better decision to discard it? You have an amazing restaurant with loyal clientele with my father being one of them and I wish you many more years of success. This is our favorite breakfast spot in town. The staff is absolutely wonderful and treat everyone like part of the family. The service is friendly and fast. The line gets long but moves quickly because they're so efficient. The pancakes are thick and cake like. It's kind of like dessert for breakfast. Try them with brown sugar or get the Hungarian pancake roll ups. We honestly haven't had a bad meal here. They always have awesome and interesting specials to offer. We love dad's !! read more

I've been to Dad's before and have always had decent experiences there - nothing fantastic but nothing substandard... until this past weekend. I went with 3 of my friends and was told I wouldn't be seated until my friends arrived. No problem. A table of 4 older people went right before us and tried to save the booth next to them for their 4 friends. There were no other open tables that could seat 4, and their friends were nowhere to be found. The hostess told us to take the booth, so we did. Apparently, this rubbed our table neighbors the wrong way and they kept shooting us death glares and loudly asking the waitress to pass on messages to their friends. The waitress was also apparently a friend of theirs and so she barely paid attention to our table. Not only did we wait a good 20 minutes before we even ordered our food, but when she was taking our drink orders, she started walking away before we were finished and two of us didn't get our water order. After we asked 2 more times, we finally got ONE water which we shared. When she came to refill the coffees, she poured the coffee as she turned to talk to the neighboring table and almost poured the coffee into my friend's lap. Our neighbors sat down maybe a minute before we did, but they had ordered, eaten, and paid before we even got our food. The food, once it actually came, was standard diner fare, and it cost about $40 for the four of us. The specials actually looked really good (although why would you put turnips in an omelette?) but I think this is the last time I'll be going to Dad's. If any of my previous visits had resulted in a 5-star visit, or even a 4-star visit, I would rethink that, but I've consistently had just acceptable service here, nothing to blow me away, and having such a negative experience definitely detracts me from returning. read more

Okay, maybe it's unfair to review a joint after one visit, but I'll bet a dozen donuts just about everything here is wonderful. My made-to-order wrap was perfect - big, fluffy and delicious. My girlfriend got scrambled eggs, bacon, and two manhole cover-sized pancakes with blueberries, apples, and cinnamon and I would happily give various organs to have another taste. The massive dollops of whipped butter didn't hurt, either. But I didn't come here to tell you about that. I'm here to talk about the corned beef hash, because OH MY GOD, THE CORNED BEEF HASH. It is homemade and one of the most delightful things I've ever put in my mouth. I don't know how Dad's does it (crack?), but it could be the most perfect breakfast food ever...crispy, meaty, and so delicious. The service is totally friendly...the twin waitresses were all smiles and joy. We drove for about 25 minutes to find Dad's...I would happily drive three times as far for another visit. Another waitress then came over to take our orders. I got a sausage, egg, & cheese on a hard roll, a short stack of pancakes, and a side of homemade corned beef hash. What can I say? I had a coupon and I am a tank! The pancakes were absolutely perfect. These monstrous, golden circles were sweet, fluffy, and made me want to do the Electric Slide. Now that's a sign of a good pancake! The corned beef hash was ridiculously flavorful and the saltiness was a perfect compliment to the sweetness of the 'cakes. They had a bunch of specials written on a chalkboard. I almost got an omelete with jalapenos and a bunch of other crazy stuff. The specials definitely had some unique ingredient combinations. The interior is simple, yet homey. The parking lot was pretty full, and I had to park on an alley in the back which wasn't wonderful. As a small business owner, also in the hospitality industry, I may often be hyper critical when it comes to food and service. Today was no exception. I chose Dad's as I had never been but had only heard gray things. When we walked in we were never greeted as the four or five servers walked by us several times. Not a "welcome", "just a minute" or even a "how many?" Once seated the young lady who got us coffee was more interested in sitting with another table, and another three or four minutes until another server took our order. The portions were huge (+) but the pancakes were underdone (-). They were remade better but at that point we'd had enough. Having to pay more for real maple syrup, I realized this place is not one I'll frequent. On a positive note, our server was friendly and personable. read more

I don't understand all these great reviews. I was excited to go here, especially because we had a Groupon. I would not go here again, even with another Groupon. I went with my girlfriend and she did not care for most things either. I had french toast and it was nothing special. Very heavy on the egg taste, nothing more. My girlfriend had them as well and said the same thing. Bacon was fine, that was the only good thing I had. I also had home fries and they were drenched in butter. In fact, the plate afterwards was just full of butter. They had no seasoning I could taste other than the butter. Then the coffee. It was just terrible. My girlfriend said the same thing too. I mean, I've had less than great coffee before, but this was bad. We downed it anyway to see if a fresh pot would be any different. We had coffee from different servers and different pots and it was all bad. My girlfriend had the hash and I tasted it. It was heavily over seasoned with paprika and for that reason it was just not that great. I really think this place needs to reconsider how they are making stuff. The wait was long and it would have been fine if the food was good. They also seem a bit disorganized at times. It took too long to order in a place so small. They should be concerned about speed and turning tables in such a tiny place, but it all seemed a bit chaotic. The staff was all friendly - I will say that. Fix the food (all of it) and the organization/speed - then you have something. But the food is just so sub-par it's not worth going here. read more

I am a Dad's convert. I've gone back to Dad's multiple times for breakfast since my first time this year, and each time, I've left extremely satisfied, happy, and ready to start my day. Everything I've had has been really good - from pancakes to omelets to the homemade corned beef hash. (Again, the corned beef is homemade. Homemade. And incredible.) The specials are super creative and, from my experience, wonderful. Today I brought some friends who were visiting the area to Dad's for breakfast, and one friend got a special omelet with crab, asparagus, avocado, mushrooms, and swiss, and she enjoyed it very much. My boyfriend got another special - a bbq bacon cheeseburger omelet, which sounds kind of weird because of the bbq sauce and eggs, but I had a bite, and it was fantastic. I got a 2x2x2 with eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and it all made for a filling breakfast. I've noticed the pancakes are not as fluffy as other places, but they're huge, and satisfying. Because we raved about the corned beef hash on the way in, my boyfriend and I split a side order of hash and our other friend got a corned beef hash omelet. Great orders all around. We had a little bit of a wait for Sunday morning, but it wasn't too bad. The service is really friendly. We had multiple waitresses refilling our coffees and bringing us waters, and this one older woman in particular is my favorite. Ummm, after reading the other glowing reviews, I'm wondering if I've got the right place. However, how many "Dad's" could there be in Wallingford, right? Well, the food was awful, and the service was very pleasant. My scrambled eggs came out looking and tasting like a sheet of plastic, the pancakes were so hard that I actually thumped one to make a point, and you could HEAR the thump. Place was nice and clean. Been back to Dad's a handful of times since my last review. Restaurant has gone down hill in my opinion in all aspects. The food is not as good as several years ago. I've had a mix from pancakes to omelets to hash and home fries. I'd say it's been a steady decline. Omelets seem a little flat and just poorly put together. Hash was really just mush last time I had them. Home fries are pretty decent although not nearly the best I've had. Pancakes were always my favorite and even they seemed to lack flavor and tasted of batter. Under cooked? Then comes the descriptions of the food. More than one occasion the item ordered was not what the description on the menu or specials board made it out to be. The service is terrible with some of the waitstaff. Not very attentive. Forgetting things. Having to ask multiple times, This is something that is fairly consistent. Some of the waitstaff just look over worked and really just don't want to be there. To top it off no condiments are kept on the tables. I like having jellies, butter, creamers, etc ready to go as I need it. When I have to wait for someone to come by so I can ask for a specific number of something only to have to brought to me 5 minutes later (possibly) is not acceptable. When asked why they do this I was given the answer because people were stealing. Acceptable loss. Don't make your other customers suffer and if you really don't want to put them on the table make sure your waitstaff drop some on the table without being asked. It's the little things that matter in my opinion. Having so many better options it's been months since I been to Dad's and probably won't return. Huge shame... read more

I'm sure people in every state would say this about home, but to me Connecticut is the Mecca of breakfast counters. While staying with my brother and sister-in-law in Wallingford, I needed a place to eat after early morning Black Friday shopping. Dad's was my brother's suggestion. I have since eaten there every time I am visiting, and it is consistently wonderful. The main draw, for me, are the specials. I may have never ordered off the menu because their daily specials are always creative, tasty, and satisfying. On my first visit they had a Thanksgiving themed omelette, which was exactly what I was looking for after being punched in the face over the last door-buster big screen TV at Walmart. Most recently, I had french toast stuffed with a biscoff cookie spread. The people are always super friendly. I'm never around enough to catch and remember everyone's names, but the faces seem to rarely change, and I assume this place is operated by the owners and family. You get seated pretty quickly, even on a Saturday or Sunday morning. You get greeted by a few nice faces. The food comes quickly, and you pay less then $10 for food and drink, usually. read more
