My family and I came to this place for a late breakfast, and absolutely loved it. Their pancakes were amazing, and their Nutella Banana muffins were amazing! We ordered four meals and it came to us extremely quickly. The service was really friendly and welcoming and we overall had an amazing experience at Dad's. Nothing beats a family owned, hole in the wall breakfast joint with friendly waitstaff, great food and great prices. I checked this place out after reading rave reviews from other yelpers, and when I saw a Groupon deal for it I scooped it right up. We went around 11:30 on a Saturday morning and had to wait a few minutes for a table, but we were happily served "juice and coffee right away honey!" I had eggs and home fries with a bagel, and my boyfriend had a western omelet sandwich. Everything was perfect and lived up to the hype. I really loved the home fries, especially the crispy burnt parts... Can't beat it! If not for the food, you gotta check this place out for the entertainment value! Bring your appetite when visiting Dads, because they'll feed you. More importantly, they'll feed you good. Real good. These are the best (and biggest!) pancakes you will ever have. The blueberry pancakes are outstanding, as are the banana walnut. The rest of their breakfast good is great as well. They make very good omelets and french toast. I'm a sucker for a good diner food and a even better deal. Pros: -The hostess (this cute older lady) greeted me and my friend quickly. -short wait. I wanted to love this place. Really really did. Name hit home as it's Father's Day weekend and first Father's Day without my dad. Walked in around 11:30 on a Saturday morning. Place was crowded. Apparently there was a wait for a table so grabbed a seat at the "bar area" (how to describe it is escaping me at the moment). Ended up getting the special omelette - spinach, tomato, provolone and something else omelette. I thought there would have been more taste to it. Stopped by Dad's Restaurant for breakfast this morning. Part of my fall MTB tour where I check out some awesome breakfast joints followed by a new (to me) mountain bike destination in CT. Today's trip brought me to Tyler's Mill in Wallingford for some great trails, and after reading numerous reviews online, I decided on Dad's Restaurant for my morning fuel. What can I say? This place definitely lives up to the positive reviews! I loved every minute of it. I walked in and immediately grabbed an open seat at the counter. Coffee was offered to me within 5 seconds. Yes! After checking the menu, I placed my order for scrambled eggs, home fries, rye toast and bacon. My order literally came out in 5 minutes. Very generous bacon serving, rye toast was fresh and amazing, eggs were hot and perfectly cooked, home fries were hot with tasty seasoning. While I was there, Val waited on me and she was the nicest person. Can't wait to come back soon , grab an awesome breakfast and hit the trails again! read more

I don't like Dad's. I'm sorry not sorry that I've given them a bunch of tries to get me on this Dad's is the best!!!!!!! Brainwash the rest of the area is on but I can't do it. The food is average. It's not hard to screw up breakfast. You can add a bunch of stuff to eggs and guess what? You've made eggs with a bunch of stuff in them. You can give me frisbee sized pancakes with stuff in and on them-it doesn't necessarily make them elevated pancakes. I've had waitresses just wander away from the table mid order to talk to someone else. Rude. But this is Dad's and they are the best ever!!!! So I guess that is acceptable? If Dad's would go out of business, I'm not sure I'd really care. After the extremely hostile and personal attack left by the owner, this is now a one star review. Dad's is a great breakfast place! They had so much great stuff on the menu, but what caught my eye immediately was "homemade corned beef hash." I ordered the cheddar and hash omelette. My boyfriend got a modified eggs Benedict. Instead of Canadian bacon they let him substitute it with a small cake of their hash. It was fantastic!! Our waitress was extremely sweet! She had accidentally written ham instead of hash down for my omelette so they mistakenly made a ham and cheddar one, but the second one came out very quickly. Our waitress was nice enough to wrap up the first one and gave it to us anyway. It wasn't just the omelette, it was a whole breakfast! There were homefries and toast with it too. I've lost count of how many times I have been here, but obviously I keep going back. Their breakfast is great! Really unique pancakes and omelettes can be found on their special boards. I however had a pretty basic 2x2x2 breakfast. 2 Eggs, 2 pieces of kielbassa and 2 pieces of french toast with a side of real maple syrup. My fiance ordered banana and walnut pancakes with a side of sausage. Everything was great! The only downside of Dad's is sometimes there is a longer wait than I really like and the room to wait in is super tiny. This place is almost always busy at breakfast. We ordered the "Thanksgiving to go" and it was honestly the highlight of 2020! The food was delicious, just like having a homecooked thanksgiving feast with all the classics. I wasn't a fan of Dad's. I actually had gone there based on the many positive yelp reviews and was disappointed by my experience. The place was very crowded but the wait wasn't too long which was nice. However, aside from being very dowdy/dingy, it's also fairly dirty, and very loud. As for the food: I'd ordered scrambled with cheese. What I got was scrambled eggs with a slice of American cheese laying across the top. Unappetizing. The fruit bowl my friend ordered looked more like the bottom pickings of a fruit salad (honeydew and cantaloupe with a scant few slices of strawberries.) Best egg's benedict with corned beef hash I've ever had! My boyfriend got the scrambled eggs with bacon and loved it, too. Would 100% come back. Service was great, too. Only complaint would be the ketchup containers. They're the glass ones, so it's super hard to shake ketchup out of them, so we had to use our butter knives to scoop it out. They should probably invest in the squeeze ones, but I won't dock a star because the food was great! read more

I wish I could give this place five stars because the service and prices here are utterly outstanding..however the food is just so-so..perhaps replacing the poor quality margarine with butter would make a noticeable difference..the scrambled eggs seem to always be overcooked and I am not a big fan of their homefries..they are just not tasty..without ketchup I find them very close to inedible . Orange juice doesn't taste fresh, but the coffee here is WONDERFUL... All in all I prefer other spots in wallingford but this place definitely deserves the three stars for their coffee and remarkably efficient,friendly and professional service. I expected it ...but I was aggravated by the eye roll which yea did happen" Have been to this restaurant for breakfast many times and the food is very good. Too bad the customer service is not. On the best of days, servers and staff are rushed and make you feel like they want you out ( yeah, i get it ... table turnover means profit but at least don't make it obvious). Went into the establishment on a Sunday and was told "it will be a while" for a table of three. When we inquired how long the wait would be .... was told "i don't know" . So i told my children, ok then let's go (as we didn't want to wait for a long period of time and the hostess could not tell me a time and a while means different things to different people ).... the woman ( hostess? Owner? Employee? ) rolled her eyes and said "okay then"....... At that point, i said I didn't understand how she couldn't tell me a time frame ( 10 minutes or 2 hours) and she said.... well it would be about 15- 30 minutes( uh so why not just say that at the beginning) .... Honestly, at that point, I was not going to stay and be sat by this nasty woman who is acting as the face of the restaurant. So we left , but really. What hostess can't guesstimate wait time on a table and then rolls her eyes at a customer for asking . I am not in Wallingford that much so it is unfortunate that I do not get to this restaurant much. I have never had lunch there before but they have the best breakfast anywhere. The staff is wonderful and the owner is great. It's sad to read comments about people who have never been there before and then get offended over the usual customers. I think this adds such an enjoyable atmosphere to a restaurant. Like everyone is friends even if you do not know them. When you have to wait until your whole party is there to be seated it's so everyone can be waited on fast and not have people sitting holding a table up for a half an hour or so while someone is on the way. Everyplace I go into is like this and I can't understand why somebody would be offended over it? This is a great little restaurant great food great employees and great owner. If you have never tried it before give it a try you will love it!!!!! read more
