I've lived in Seattle all my life (almost 50 years) and only tried it for the first time recently. The owner and staff were 100 - very kind and pleasant to talk to while I waited for my takeout order. The food was very delicious and fresh. Ordered the salmon don (chirashi bowl), Makunouchi (katsu bento), beef sukiyaki noodle, and California roll. The only reason that would keep me from going back is the value for my money. The prices were pretty steep compared to other sushi places, but to be fair, I'm not the type to be dolling out $$$ for premium sushi. Wow I really love this place! The rolls were great and we loved everything on the fresh sheet! My buddy and I got most of what we ate off the fresh sheet specials and were really blown away with how tasty and fresh everything was! I'm pretty sure the owner was the one making our rolls and he checked on us multiple times and made the experience both delicious, but also fun! The places wasn't very crowded, but the food was fresh and the space was clean! Overall, can't wait to come back. I haven't been to Daimonji in YEARS! I used to go somewhat regularly but moved away and haven't been in ages. Finally made it back and OMG still fantastic. Called ahead to order takeout. It was ready in about 15 minutes. The place seems nice and clean from what I observed while waiting for my order. I got the four seasons roll and rosanna. The fish tasted pretty fresh, but they weren't as satisfying as other ones I've had. I didn't see any fish roe on the rosanna roll I got even though online menu says there's supposed to be some. It seems like they replaced it with cucumber. The portions seem small for the price and each of the roll was also a dollar more than what was listed on their site. Craving sushi for Valentine's Day and I came across Daimonji. I ordered for pickup on the phone and was able to pick up my order in 30 minutes. I got the Daimonji roll, spider roll, red devil, and mad tiger roll. Along with one four seasons hand roll. My favorites were the daimonji roll and the mad tiger roll - I'd definitely get those two again! The others were good too but the flavors were not as powerful as the aforementioned rolls. The hand roll was my least favorite but that is just because I prefer the regular rolls for the ratio of fish to rice. What a local find! We were craving some sushi mid-week and luckily came across this place on our Yelp search! It's located in a busy intersection in Georgetown but there's a parking spot so easy to get to! Right when we walked through the front doors, we were greeted by the smiling chef, shouting us a nice welcome in! Then a lady came by to seat us. It was a surprisingly busy place for mid-week but we easily got a seat. We started with an order of vegetable tempura. I was quite pleased with this tempura. It had a good ratio of batter to vegetable and wasn't too fried at all. It was delicious! Then we ordered three rolls to share among the two of us - spicy tuna roll, futomaki roll, and dragon roll. We were absolutely pleased with the rolls! They were cut well, made well, and filled with fresh ingredients. I was very happy after this meal and even had some rolls to take home with me. We placed a large last-minute order for a big party, and Alex and his team absolutely knocked it out of the park. Our guests raved about the sushi. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The presentation was amazing even though everything was in take-out platters. The appetizers were great, the rolls were fantastic and creatively prepared, and the sashimi was excellent. Everything was ready in about 45 minutes from when I ordered. I'd like to give special thanks for the Daimonji team going above and beyond helping me get the large order out to my car, and getting everything carefully packed so all the food stayed in great shape during the drive home. I'll start by saying that I didn't find much value in their appetizers; the portions were extremely small and fell flat in flavor; particularly, the chicken karaage. Three small chicken nugget sides that were missing crunchiness and seasoning; the sliced cabbage to chicken ratio is quite disappointing. With that upset in appetizers out of the way, the sushis are good! My wife and I ordered five different rolls and it's clear that they use fresh fish and vegetables; there isn't a lingering after taste that makes you question the cleanliness and preparation. Some sushi joints make you wonder how long the ingredients have been taken in and out the fridge and if the chef even knows how to assemble a roll. This place is generous in the portions and is packed neatly to make a pleasant display. Their Lucky roll is probably my top pick so far, following that is their ebi tempura; the Lucky roll with the seared hamachi and fried onions pairs well together, while the Ebi tempura had a nice fried batter that compliments well the bits of cucumber and avocado. They have nice selection of sashimi which I will come back soon on my own to try; perhaps their yellowtail and unagi. Hamachi and salmon grade sashimi were 100% delicious, miso soup had real konbu, and the agedashi tofu was made the way it should be- authentic. 4 stars mainly for the amazing service and nice staff. I always come here with a super hungry and angry toddler after our swim class and the staff is super considerate. Spoons and extra bowls are always provided for toddler and they never show any sign of annoyance when my hyperactive child spills ice water...and everything else. Thoughtfulness when it comes to accommodating customers, excellent 3 stars for price: honestly, I can get better quality and tastier sushi with the price they charged at another location, but it's run by the nicest folks. The bento is priced ok but still, food is alright. The udon is also only ok. The meat was so full of fat, I was hoping for more of just soft beef but felt like we were eating some soft beef attached with a ton of fat. Perhaps it was the cut but still, ugh, I won't be ordering the udon soup with soft beef again unless they change to a type of meat that is more beef and less fat. For this price range, their sushi is close to as good as it gets. I ordered the sushi lunch ($17), which came with 5 pieces of nigiri and four very thin pieces of a roll and a small spicy tuna roll. Sushi: The fish was very fresh, and sushi was well made overall. I thought the seasoning of the rice was too weak. Once again, for this price, I think it's a good deal for a sushi lunch. However, if you're willing to pay more, you can have significantly better sushi (e.g., at Shiro's). Service: Service was friendly but minimum. The sushi chef (Alex?) was chatting with regulars as he was making sushi. The biggest turn off was that the staff all started eating lunch while I was still eating. I understand that their lunch hour ends at 2pm, but I thought it was very unprofessional for them to start their lunch while a customer was still in the restaurant. They could have at least eaten in the back of the room, not right in front of me. Parking: In Seattle, parking can be a pain. This restaurant is on a strip mall, and parking is easy and free. Health Issues: - This restaurant seems clean, but their food safety rating by King County Public Health is only "Good," which means "The restaurant has had SOME red critical violations over the last four inspections." I'm not faking out. I would be if the rating were just "Ok," but it's concerning as they serve raw and undercooked food. - It's partly cultural, but I don't like that they reuse chopsticks. If they reuse plastic chopsticks (ones we find at Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants), that's one thing. They reuse wooden chopsticks, which only family members and close friends share in Japan. Would I come back? Maybe. Swung by for takeout in the midst of the COVID closures. I had been thrilled, while scrolling through their menu online, to find that they serve okonomiyaki. These japanese cabbage pancakes are surprisingly hard to find in the city. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst okonomiyaki I have had, in that it was almost 100% dough with very little in the way of other ingredients. It was closer to a Denny's pancake than anything. The Daimonji roll, on the other hand, was really excellent. With imitation crab on the inside and spicy tuna with tempura flakes on top, the roll was fantastically creamy. Unfortunately it was not a great value at about $14 for a smallish roll. All in all I was glad I had stopped by, but I don't think I'll be back. read more

Ordered toro nigiri and eel nigiri - both amazing!!! Also ordered the udon, it looked promising until i took the 1st sip of the broth. It was so salty, i was only able to stomach a few bites. When the server came back to ask if id like a box for it, i told her it was too salty. She apologized and then said, ill meet you up front for your check. I was shocked that she didnt even offer to bring me something else when clearly, she can see that id barely touched it. Overall, sushi was on point but udon and service brought it down to a 3. We found this place as we were leaving the museum of flight. The location and outside don't look very great but the food was good! The sushi tasted fresh and delicious, despite some random overly high prices on several rolls. We had the wings; not great, not bad. The gyoza was good, average. The miso soup is good. We ordered through Uber eats on a Friday evening. The menu consisted of a bundle of rolls. Which is what we ended up ordering. Top combo through Uber eats: Crazy dragon roll, rainbow roll, four seasons roll and spider roll. Chef's choice sashimi And a free side salad come with. We haven't had sushi in a long time and have ordered in the past from other restaurants with not much success. This restaurant though we were very pleased with. It did take a little long (an hour) But seemed to be worth the wait. We will for sure order again, or maybe even make it into the restaurant soon. read more

I recently found myself doing some Friday night urban wine tasting with friends in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood, and somebody said the S-word: SUSHI! So I flipped over to my Yelp app and (surprise surprise!) there was a well-rated sushi spot just a few blocks away. We finished our wine and headed over to Daimonji. And - I gotta say - I will definitely be back. Located in a non-descript strip mall near a flower shop, Daimonji is worth seeking out. Even though we arrived (sorry!) near closing time, the sushi chef and the server welcomed us with enthusiasm. One of the dudes in our party mentioned ordering the omakase menu - which sorta shocked me (to be honest) because omakase is more of an event than a random menu selection. But I asked the sushi guy and he was game, so we put our faith in his hands and we were epically rewarded! We started with a round of hot sake, followed by a delicious, crisp salad and hot miso soup before the main events arrived. First, we had a smorgasbord of fresh, tender sashimi - including one of the best white tunas I've ever tasted! Shortly we were treated to a round of nigiri and a marathon of special rolls, plus a dessert round too. We left stuffed full of delicious goodness and exclamations that we couldn't wait to return. Although omakase is usually an experience planned well in advance, I was so glad we made the spontaneously (and quite possibly wine-inspired) decision to try it at Daimonji. Came in for lunch and there were plenty of open tables. The server was very friendly and accommodating, especially coming in with kids. She had a lot of nice recommendations. We started off with edamame and miso soup. For our entree we ordered the Makounouchi bento box and an order of the seared toro belly (get this! It really does melt in your mouth). One of the rolls said it included "soft shell crab" but when I opened the fried "crab" there was NO MEAT, just breading. Same thing with the fried shrimp, there was no meat, just more breading. .
