By far the worst experience of any eatery in my entire life. Mobile order, arrived at the time DQ advised the order would be ready. 1 hour later in the store, and not only had they not started the order, but the manager said "I'm not the one that ordered all of this food!" 4 burger meals and a mix/match. Not a big order and certainly enough time to grill a couple burgers and make some fries and chicken. They benefit from being on the island, which is the only reason they will survive . Limited options in the island make this a hotspot so the wait is excruciating, and once you receive your "food" one must wonder why you've come here in the first place. I ordered a couple hamburgers and a turtle blizzard. The burgers tasted manufactured and were definitely NOT meat, and a very unpleasant surprise came in my blizzard. They managed to process some foreign very hard (steel or plastic) product, combined with peanuts making a very painful crack in one of my molar teeth. The food options on the island are very limited. It seems that the restaurants on the island know this and therefore don't care too much about quality and service. The line was terribly long and the workers act as if they're the ones on vacation. Absolutely no hustle in trying to get orders out. A young black man that waited on us 1) wouldn't correct our order since it was "too late" 2) immediately after he took our payment he began scrolling on his phone. Employers-you need to ban cell phone use while on duty. It's very unprofessional and it encourages terrible work ethics. We didn't have food there but I wouldn't recommend the ice cream. Also, why do the southern DQ's not believe that you can put peanuts on a hard dip shell? I get it all the time up north with absolutely no problem. After reading through all these reviews, the vast majority being negative dating several years back, how is this place still open? How is it that no improvements have been made? I'm not sure who is in charge of ordering for this location but every time i went they were out of some of the most basic items. I was able to get a flurry of my choice on my second visit but not the first time. They added some chocolate syrup to one of my orders which made it taste really different but it was still good enough to eat. It is being ran by high school aged looking employees which was fine because they are friendly and efficient but it was awkward when they kept having to explain to customers over and over again that they were out of _____________. For it being fast food still give yourself 20 mins. Fast does not exist in this location. Neither does cleaning evidently. Everywhere in the lobby and as far as I could see in the kitchen was a mess. My father and I wanted to grab a quick bite before he had to drop me off at the airport. Well I guess we shoulda waited until we got off the island to do that. Of course what I wanted off the menu was a problem because they were low on stock. I guess that means they want to save it for themselves? Weird business model. Had to urge myself to the bathroom immediately after eating probably because the food was made in a place so unsanitary. Also my father had concerns about how long our food was taking. They called orders 73-75 ect before ours (70) and then the front counter gave my father an attitude claiming they only go in order as if we weren't standing there the whole time waiting. Shame I don't corporate cares. I think they know they can get away with not taking care of this location because of its prime location on the island. I have been here twice in 12 months. Once last summer and once this summer. Both times the restaurant was filthy. Like never had the floor washed under table and chair legs filthy. The water pouring from the ceiling this visit was certainly unexpected. It was pooled on the counter and raining on the cashier. The staff did not have hair nets (not sure if this is required or not), and can barely contain their disdain for customers. Not quite sure why there was a hair brush on the counter near the side door. I am just surprised that nothing has improved since my last visit a year ago. I am not familiar with GA Board of Health requirements but it did not appear as if the owners or staff care. Annoyingly, and then comedically (because what else can you do but laugh at this house of clowns?), like many many others here, this DQ was the bane of my existence on Jekyll for 4 weeks straight! They CONSTANTLY have either NO ice cream, or only vanilla. Don't be fooled into thinking chocolate ice cream exists here, because "Chocolate who? Chocolate what?"--they never EVER have it. Not in the 4 weeks I patronized them. And why did I keep coming back, you ask? Because it was a 30-min drive to the mainland, and that's one way. It was not worth the time or gas to hit the other DQ off 95. The other ice cream options on Jekyll are in the Jekyll Market, or the Sweet Shoppe, which were both over $5 for a tiny scoop, and had more limited hours. This DQ was the easiest option on the island, since I had a toddler to please. I don't understand how this place stays in business with some of the horror stories I've read in these Yelp reviews. They're quite entertaining to read, however unpleasant. As for my experience, many times I just had to walk out. Lines were long, and filled with agitated people. Staff were disgruntled and gave attitude. Usually, I just got a box of Buster bars so I didn't have to deal with people. Only once did I attempt a mint Oreo Blizzard (couldn't get choco Oreo, with no chocolate), and the bottom was almost 3" of solid unblended, plain vanilla ice cream. This place is pretty awful. They stay in business because they are open longer hours than Jekyll Market across the street, and they're totally obvious at the gas station, connected to Circle K, right when you come off the bridge onto the island. Where do I begin? The staff is made up of adults who seem to be still living in their high school days and they are more concerned with going outside to take their vape break then stay inside and working on the cleanliness of the restaurant and taking care of customers. When we went inside to order, the guy, appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s, was talking about how he was about to go out and take his break when we walked in and how busy it really had been. It was almost as if we had hindered him from going out for his Peach or Apple, or whatever flavor vape he prefers. After we placed and paid for our order, three males hurried outside, right next to the entrance in a cloud of God, knows what started happening from their little vape machines. The one female that was left inside working, and yelled for them to wait for her, and seemed to be in distress because they had not. We are not sure what was in those vape pens, but it must've been really good for her to be in that much distress because they did not wait on her. She hurried and made our order, and we sat down to realize that everything was sticky! The floor, the walls, the seating, and the tables were all covered in dried ice cream, and there was trash everywhere! The entire restaurant was filthy, but I guess it's OK as long as, the staff has their vape time outside. There are very few places to eat on Jekyll Island, and several of them are really beginning to suffer with horrible staff issues and cleanliness. We understand that the restaurant industry is struggling right now, but if you cannot do better than this, then you should just go ahead and close your doors. The DQ was Sunday afternoon busy and had one person working front counter. She took orders, delivered food to customers, filled the drink machine with ice, and more. Alone. We ate and then decided to get blizzards. The line was NOT moving. After a long wait, we skipped the ice cream. Hint: for food and ice cream on Jekyll Island- go into the village shopping area. This DQ is just bad. Dirty tables, dirty child chairs, tore up and missing seat cushions- there is no reason to run a store like that. The lady was doing what she could behind the counter, but her attitude relayed the fact that she was not happy to be there at all, and not happy to see that customers were there either. The only ice cream location on the island. The actual ice cream in the broken cone was soft and fluffy (can't usually go wrong with the Dairy Queen mix and machines). Restaurant was FILTHY.... Two of four workers outside over 25 minutes leaving someone in the kitchen to cook that did not know how to make French fries, so many many customers just waited for their food. First things first, if I could put a zero or lower as a rating, I would. I have been coming to Jekyll Island since I was just one year old, and have continued to come every year for the last 19 years. Within the past 5 years this Dairy Queen has become an embarrassment to the beautiful Island. It's hard to even pick a place to start about this establishments problems. 1) every single year they are "out" of chocolate ice cream. How can you be a Dairy Queen and not have chocolate ice cream?? 2) on multiple occasions my family and I have ordered blizzards and the ice cream had tasted like it had freezer burn, so our family had to just throw the whole thing out, and there was no refund given. 3) the service is terrible. When we go it's usually at least a 15 minute wait for our ice cream, most of the time longer. The staff does not care about trying to get peoples food/ice cream out, and just take their precious time, when the store is over flowing with costumers.3) But the thing that really pushed me over the edge was the false advertising of their hours. Tonight, ten of my family members rode our bikes 2.2 miles to get some ice cream, we arrived at the establishment at 9 pm because we checked the website and it said the Dairy Queen closed at 10, so we had ample time to get a quick dessert and head home. However when we entered the Diary Queen the employees, informed us they were closed. This came as a surprise to us because it was advertised that it was open til 10. With my confusion, I went to the one male employee and told him how the website, and the hours posted outside the establishment said it was open from 10 am to 10 pm and he responded with "My boss told me it was 9 today, I don't know what to tell you" brushing me off in a very rude and disrespectful way. This Diary Queen needs to be under NEW management. I counted, this Diary Queen lost out on 26 costumers tonight due to them closing earlier than they should have. Driving north on Interstate 95 to drop my daughter and her friend at camp, we had the opportunity to stop in for Dairy Queen while filing up for gas at the Kaka's convenience store in Jekyll Island, Georgia. Yes - I did say KaKa's. I'm not sure who named the place but it really is the schnitt. Daniella was our cashier and she seemed nice enough. Very simple order - 3 piece chicken lunch, no dip, regular fries, medium drink, and small caramel Sundae - a medium cookie dough Blizzard - one chili dog, and a cheeseburger combo with regular fries and a medium drink. Two kids and one adult. Meal was "to-go" and we waited. And we waited. 23 minutes for Daniella to produce our order. No napkins and no condiments in the bag. It wasn't until we got in the car that my daughter's friend mentioned that the bag didn't have her small caramel Sundae. Back into Dairy Queen I went. After asking about the "short order," Daniella went into the food service area and told a co-worker that the Sundae was missing. I could hear her from the front counter area. A few minutes later, Daniella produced the ice cream Sundae and I was on my way. According to the kids, they said the chicken and burger were cold. My chili dog gave me heart burn, but I guess chili is supposed to do that. Right? A total of about 30 minutes was wasted at this KaKa Dairy Queen. 30 minutes that could have been spent driving. 30 minutes of my life that I will never see again. My family & I arrived at 9:50pm this evening. We understood that they closed in 10 minutes and planned on ordering our ice cream to go. As soon as we walked in the door one of the cashiers jumped up from the dining area and ran behind the counter to grab her drawer to go count it. The other cashier asked us if we planned on paying with card, we said yes. The cook told her to ask us if we planned on ordering food or ice cream as he was sitting at a table socializing with other guests. We spent less than 10 seconds looking over the menu when she said "are you ready? We're waiting on you." We all ordered, when one of us grabbed our ice cream from the counter she sarcastically said "oh you're welcome, have a nice night". We understand that we walked in 10 minutes before closing, but they were still open and we were out the door before 10:00. Our family visits Jekyll every year & this Dairy Queen is usually a daily stop for us, we always have great customer service, however the two girls working tonight made us not want to go back to this Dairy Queen at all. Not one employee spoke to us first. The cashier just stared at me until I spoke. One boy was just standing in front of the window in the back with his eyes almost completely closed. Never did anything. We watched as people's food was placed in the window as numbers were called and customers were standing so close they could breathe on the food. We ordered two cookie dough blizzards and when we started eating they tasted like chocolate cherry for half of the blizzard. It was as if they made it with tools that were not cleaned. The dining room was a nasty mess, too. We planned to eat in, but had to leave because there was no clean place to sit. Just arrived back to our hotel from a quick Dairy Queen run. Where do I begin? After walking inside, we walked up to the counter, no staff in sight. So my wife and I waited for about 5 minutes. We heard laughing and joking around in the back, so we spoke up to try and get the attention of at least one employee. Another 5 minutes pass, so I walked back into the kitchen, and again spoke up to try and get the attention of an employee. The noise ceased, and still not a single employee came out. It was not until an employee of the gas station, adjoined to the DQ, walked over and went into the back room to get the employees. The manager, who seemed entirely flippant and aloof, did not even acknowledge or apologize for our wait, or even have her staff readily available. The staff seemed to be comprised of about 4 people who popped out after we ordered. I would not identify this Dairy Queen location as a beacon of customer service.
