Drove from St Charles because we heard there were lilac Dilly Bars! Worth the drive! The walk up window had a line but it moved very quickly and ordering/pick up was easy. The employees were very friendly, there were a few places to sit, and the "patio" was very clean. The dilly bars "slapped" as my kids say. They were so good and such a fun treat! Dairy Queen has been a staple in Lombard for years and it's easy to see why: they serve delicious ice cream with a smile. We made a quick visit for some ice cream bars and were lucky enough to grab a seat in the shade. Our order was simple and the bars were in our hands before the cashier could finish processing the coupons we had. They're fast here, cemented by the fact that we stayed and watched the line quickly diminish as a result of worker efficiency. The ice cream was tasty too! I'd definitely get another Dilly Bar. I don't know why I like this DQ so much. Probably the novelty of it; retro decor, walk-up only, etc. Folks are friendly and it's quick, even if the line looks long. Parking might be what stumps you the most (both finding it and entering correctly; seems like every time I've been someone enters from the wrong side). Normally I would give the DQ a very good review. Today's visit was an exception at this location. I ordered my favorite Heath Caramel Brownie Cupfection. There was very little ice cream which is not normal. It was very obviously smaller than the normal size serving so I mentioned to the young ladies that were working that it looked smaller than usual and asked if they are changing the serving size. She told me no, it is the normal size serving. I stated again that it looks like much less ice cream than usual, hoping she would step up and offer to correct the problem. She did not, and as I walked away all her co-workers gave her a big pat on the back and praised her assertiveness. I was disappointed with this as I was very polite and spoke very nicely and got disrespected by all of them. I don't understand why they would act like this. Not happy and won't go back. There are 3 Dairy Queen's by us so I'll go to the other ones where I know they give proper servings and don't behave this way. Sorry DQ, but this one's on you. read more

Love this old school walk-up ice cream spot. Conveniently located near the bike path on main st. We like to walk there during the summer and enjoy a peanut buster parfait or one of their many special blizzards. It's a charming throwback building, including the original 1955 pink neon sign, standing alone on a corner. You can practically see the poodle skirts and big-finned cars in your mind's eye. Conversely, they have the annoying modern-day Dairy Queen menus, which show you a bunch of pictures rather than a comprehensive list of the products for sale. Annoying. But it's probably true that most people, definitely including myself, who show up at a Dairy Queen have a clear idea of what they want anyway. Mmm, peanut M&M blizzard. This little walk-up Dairy Queen at the corner of Maple and Main is a trip back in time. The building dates from 1953 and it appears little has changed, including the awesome neon signage which has been recognized by the Lombard Historical Commission. The sign is believed to be one of the last original blue and white Dairy Queen signs featuring the signature ice cream cone. The letters light up in dazzling pink neon. There's nothing surprising about what's served here. It's a Dairy Queen! But sweet treats only. I'm partial to the Peanut Buster Parfait or an old-fashioned hot fudge sundae. Either one is a perfect treat on a warm spring day after a stroll through nearby Lilacia Park. This DQ closes during the coldest months: mid-Oct to mid-February. read more

Super sweet and fun! If you are visiting Lombard this old fashioned Dairy Queen is worth a visit. It closes for the season soon though, October 28th. I'm so glad I stopped by for a cone before then. Lilacia Park is just across Main Street so perhaps buy a treat and head over to the park for a nice autumn walk. $2.40 tax included for a very generous "medium plain cone". Pleasant staff. This place is a Lombard institution and has been around forever. As other reviewers have said, the parking lot is small (doesn't hold many cars), there are only two benches and the place closes for the winter. There is on-street parking close by and many people walk there from the nearby library and Lilacia Park. It can be busy especially in the summer evenings when sports teams stop by but the lines always seem to move quickly. This is all part of the charm, however, and I'd rather go to a place like this than a DQ in a mall. read more

Visited this location again today! Even though the lines look out of control, the employees move very quickly and can get through the lines efficiently! Because this location is right at the heart of downtown Lombard -- they are also getting in the festive Lilac spirit this spring! If you need to know one thing about Lombard, it's that they are obsessed with their lilacs. It's Lilac season and Lombard is celebrating with parades and various events all over the town this month! I loved the chocolate malt and I loved the wonderful old sign. The service was normal (young kid with 2/3 of the hang of customer service). It was really close to the Prairie Path bike trail, the hospital, the park and other places you might be when you really want a nice cold ice cream treat. This Dairy Queen can be a lot of fun but it can also be a nightmare. FUN: You stop with your young child on a Monday night. You sit and eat dripping dipped cones and watch the traffic go by. NIGHTMARE: You stop by with your young child and 82 local sports teams show up. The parking lot holds about 8 cars. There are like 2 benches to sit on. It is a busy intersection. People are running around and driving around all crazy. Ugh. I suggest going when there are less than 10 people standing outside. This is hands-down the BEST DQ Location I've ever had the fortune of visiting. I'm a new resident in Lombard, but I've been told that this location hasn't changed in many years, possibly decades. There's definitely something unique and old-school about the look of the place. It's an outdoor-only establishment where you order/pickup at the outside window. It's a ten minute walk from my house, and it's the perfect place to go on these beautiful, warm sunny nights. My dog absolutely loves scarfing down a cup of vanilla...evidently dogs don't get brain freeze very easily since she'll eat the whole scoop in one bite! All of the local sports teams frequent this location, and it can get crowded. However, the staff is fast, friendly, and accommodating. Large crowds have never been an issue for me. In fact, I enjoy the fact that this place seems to be a community staple. As I said before, this is the best DQ location I've ever been to, and I feel fortunate that I live so close. read more

This definitely seems to be the "thing to do" on a summer night in Lombard. This little walk-up Dairy Queen has massive lines come dusk. The parking lot only fits about 15 cars so you may have to drive around until someone pulls out or have someone wait in line and order while you drive around. The service is quick and friendly. There are a few benches to sit and eat your frozen treats or you may opt to take a stroll. I've never even paid attention to what is next door to them, but maybe they should buy the lot, expand the parking, and add some tables w/umbrellas... would be a nice touch in my opinion. I believe this DQ only offers the frozen treats... none of the cooked to order food. Very nice. And... in case you get an urge in the midst of winter... Nope! I was a girl on a mission. A mission from...myself? It was a hot April afternoon and I wanted to bring a treat to my husband. I immediately thought: Dilly Bar! So, I checked for the nearest DQ and was reminded of this location. The parking lot annoyed me. If you attempt to turn in off of Maple, you would be heading the wrong direction according to the painted arrows on the ground. I have never been one who loves rules and so I turned in from Maple. You should pull in off of Main Street and depart onto Maple (according to those painted arrows), just a thought. They have a walk-up window which I visited. I checked in on Yelp as I walked up and badda-bing! 25% off my entire purchase! Cha-ching!!! Now, my hubby AND his co-workers are getting Dilly Bars. They sell them in pre-packed bags of ten for less than $10. Take off the 25% and I was paying around $.75 a piece. Great deal! The gal at the window was quick and I was grateful that she took my payment before getting the ice cream. Good thinking on her part, so the ice cream would have less time to melt! Overall, it was a very productive visit. Plus, I found red coupons in the bottom of the Dilly Bar bags for $1 off my next purchase. I feel as if I'm taking a bite out of a sacred cow, but for Dairy Queens, this particular one isn't very good, despite its iconic status in Lombard. Last year, I was so excited about the grand opening that I went in February for a peanut buster parfait... and I had to throw it away because the peanuts were so hard, I wondered if DQ gave me leftover peanuts laying around from last fall. A server told me on my next visit that nothing was re-used, so I don't know what happened. But even when the peanuts can be chewed, the layering isn't very good. It's as if they try to cut corners and go with one fewer layer of soft serve and one fewer layer of peanuts and hot fudge. I stopped at a DQ in Batavia recently and had the best peanut buster parfait I've had in years. Coincidentally, it was the first one from somewhere other than this location. This location doesn't offer food, which is understandable considering the size of the building. But they also don't offer Orange Julius products, which many other DQs do. They don't list everything available on their menu board, which is hard to read during the day, thanks to window glare. But hey, it's beautiful, right? Look at that sign! Yep, too bad the sign doesn't really add to the experience. What would add to the experience is opening up more windows when the place is rocking, so I don't have to stand in line for what can feel like an eternity on a hot and buggy summer evening. One thing I did enjoy today was a buster bar. It wasn't listed on the menu, but it was delicious and only $2.05 after tax. When I told them that I didn't have a nickel and would have to break a twenty, the server said "you're good." To me, that meant that my friendly neighborhood DQ cared enough about my business that they were going to spot me the nickel, so I wouldn't have to carry around all that change. Hey, they really do care! Instead, $17.95 fell into my hand. At least she counted right. I've heard several people in the central business district say that what they miss most is an ice cream place. I'd tell them that DQ is only one (long) block from the "downtown," but apparently, it feels a lot longer to some of us. Here's hoping this location stops resting on its laurels and tries to offer a product that is in line with what other DQs offer. read more

I usually come here to utilize the coupon they give me to get $1 off a $5 or more purchase during my next visit. Since this is the closest DQ (I think it is) I take the train to the Lombard station and then get back on after purchasing delicious a ice cream treat or a milkshake. Oh, and yeah, it's only two blocks south of the Metra station, so if you're looking to take the train to or from Lombard, why not stop here while you wait for your train to pull in? :) read more

I can't remember not having Dairy Queen, and this Dairy Queen represents the first place I ever had soft serve style ice cream. That said, the fond memories are etched in my psyche as positive. This Dairy Queen was one of the reasons I chose to live in Lombard. Really. It's an old walk-up store, ice cream only (unlike DQ in Texas) with vintage neon! It is the gathering spot after little leauge and football games, the kids meet up there on summer evenings, old couples hold hands and get cones...it's everything I live in a small town for! And a piece of America that is disappearing. It will suck if they tear it down to build condos, which is happening to almost everything else on Main St.! read more
