Stopped in here for a late dinner on Sunday night. Generally, I don't have high expectations when you go to an AYCE place, especially if it's under $20. That being said, I thought the food here was decent. The rainbow and godzilla roll was ok and the BBQ squid and seafood soba were edible. I've been to this place a few times and have had a great experience every time. The food is great. The prices are great. They have all you can eat sushi during lunch. It is easy to get your money's worth from this place, and enjoy doing it. Like most sushi places, or anytime you order large quantities of handmade dishes, the wait time can be long waiting for your order. Don't be alarmed. I gave this place a shot despite the reviews being a bit low. I was pleasantly surprised. I arrived as the all you can eat special was ending so I elected to just order off the menu. I ordered 3 rolls and I was pretty full when I finished them - each came with 6 pieces. The service was quick and pleasant. I had no issues having my drink refilled and never found myself waiting for anything. Most importantly, the food was delicious. I tried 3 different rolls and they were all great. There were other items on the menu I'm sure I would like as well. Don't let the picky naysayers keep you away. This is a restaurant worth visiting. read more

Location is a little weird which is probably why this place doesn't get as many customers as they should. It's only $14 for lunch and $22 for the dinner menu selection, and they'll let you pick dinner even if it's lunch. It's all you can eat, made to order sashimi pieces, nigiri, and full sized specialty sushi rolls. It's an incredible deal for the price and the quality is not bad. Came here with my sister and her boyfriend. We have been craving AYCE sushi for some time now, so we made plans to go to Volcano Sushi early in the week. At the last minute we discovered that Volcano Sushi was closed due to a fire! In a frantic last minute panic, we searched all over the internet to find good (but affordable) AYCE sushi in our area. We came across Daiwa. The reviews were mixed, but we decided to go ahead and roll the dice. We don't regret it at all. The food tasted great, the quality was great for the price ($13.95 for lunch AYCE!) and we walked out satisfied. The service was good. They have great yum yum sauce and their soy sauce has enough sodium in it to keep your weakened, engorged heart satisfied. I highly recommend! read more

It was empty at 1630 hrs. Waitress did not have a good grasp on her menu items when I asked a question. Mind you my question was pretty basic, such as how many skewers come in the order? Overall appearance is clean. Service was quick...got the app first, which was tasty, but a little greasy. The fried rice was huge, but only 4 shrimps. That was sad. House salad was okay, but not authentic. It did not have the traditional ginger dressing. It tasted more like watered down thousand island with soy. Yakitori took a long time . Finally received it and It was a little burnt, meat was dry, and greasy. It was not grilled...it tastes deep fried. Ugghhhhhhh! I'm disappointed. The location is convenient for us. Service is fast and they're sweet and gave us a complimentary beverage. Ordered crab Rangoon though and it was cold when I got home and there's barely any filling in them. The fried role I got wasn't actually fried just kinda warm. Biggest let down is they snuck cream cheese into a roll that didn't have it listed as an ingredient. I specifically avoid cream cheese when ordering sushi and it makes me not want to go back if they're going to put it in there anyways regardless of whether they list it in the roll ingredients. This particular joint's filler of choice is crab salad so prepare to have everything taste mostly of just crab salad. The size of the rolls is decent for the price though at least. read more

This is a little more than I normally spend for hibachi and sushi and it was worse than the cheap places. The hibachi steak was 50% fat that I had to keep spitting out and it tasted more like a beef roast with gravy than Asian food. Pretty solid place for sushi. The amount of food you get for the price is good. I always get avocado maki for an appetizer and they gave me the biggest pieces of avocado I've ever had in the roll. We were impressed by the quality of the sushi and the prompt service, and we haven't ordered anything yet that we've been displeased about. This place is in the part of Norfolk surrounded by Military Base, which always makes me feel slightly out-of-place. The area is a bit sketch (the first time my husband went for lunch, there was a cop shooting across the street), but the shopping plaza the restaurant is in wasn't bad, and the restaurant itself has a comfy sort of feel; it's small and cheerful, with quick, friendly service and a cozy sushi bar, if you like. The all-you-can-order lunch menu isn't comprehensive but it has probably 40-50 solid options, including rolls, nigiri, soups, salads and entrees. If you like seaweed salad, I recommend the Spicy Girl roll, and the pan-fried udon entree is straight-up awesome on a plate. I haven't been here for dinner, because I am cheap and dinner looked expensive for my taste, but the dinner all-you-can-order menu looked even more tasty. $12.95 "All You Can Eat" lunch buffet... which usually translates as "order once and then wait an extremely long time for the food to arrive and then even longer for a second order should you decide to push the 'all you can eat' button." These places are notorious for taking so long with follow up orders that patrons usually get tired of waiting even though they are still hungry. Our group beat the lunch crowd by a few minutes, so our orders were in before the squid fest of blueberried Sailors filled up the rest of the seats. Four Chinese sushi chefs were busy rolling away at the bar, and about 8-10 waitresses flurried about taking orders, serving drinks, delivering food and removing plates. My appetizer order of miso soup, edamame and gyoza took about 20 minutes and arrived at the same time as my pan-fried udon, volcano roll, hampton roll, salmon rolls and tuna rolls. I guess something is lost in translation with the words 'starter' or 'appetizer'... So, after we all did some table management to accommodate the attack of white ceramic plates, we finally got in a comfortable groove and enjoyed the food. I was thankful that I got my entire order in one swoop, because those who ordered a second round subjected the rest of us to another 10-15 min wait for their food to arrive. I just came for their sushi lunch buffet so I can't speak on behalf of their other menu items, but this place was pretty legit. They give you a menu, which includes appetizers, soup/salad, and sushi. You order whatever you what off of it but you have to finish it all before ordering some more. There were previous complaints that service was too slow, but when I came, I found it to be reasonable. The big allure to this place is the all-you-can-eat options. There's an $11.95 Sushi Lunch and a $13.95 Full Lunch option, which includes dishes like Katsu and Hibachi items. I ordered the Sushi Lunch. I got a pair of Tuna Rolls, Tamago (egg), and squid sushi. The tuna rolls were very fresh and nicely sized. All in all, everything was quite good. Unlike a buffet, you have to order up for seconds, thirds, etc. There was a place in Silicon Valley that operated the same way. Their list of sashimi and rolls are great. The sushi chefs really go over the top with their creativity on the plates. Came for their all-you-can-eat lunch (13.95). They have a large selection of soups, salads, appetizers, entrees, nigiri and sushi rolls that are made to order. I had the clear soup, shrimp tempura, shrimp nigiri and a sweet potato roll. Everything was fresh and delicious. I also ordered the cucumber salad, but I did not like that at all as it seemed to have been made a few days earlier. My husband ordered a few of their specialty rolls as part of his lunch and they were large and looked very fresh and high quality. That being said, I didn't eat them, so I really can't comment on their taste. I thought for the price that it was an excellent deal and it was a much nicer concept than some of the buffets in the area since everything (for the most part) seemed to be made to order. Sushi seems like a really easy thing to make. But, if youve never made it you dont know how hard it really is. Ive made it probably a total of 3 times in my life. Which is why when i go to a sushi place and the sushi looks amazing AND tastes great its really something special. This all you can eat dinner sushi menu, while $21 dollars may be pricey to you think of it this way (which is also what I did): off the top of my head 3 of the special rolls on their dinner menu are the Dragon Roll, Butterfly Roll, and McArthur. The dragon roll is $11, the Butterfly is $13, and the McArthur is $12. Now, im no scientist but if you add those together thats $36. Plus i got a salad for $2. So $38 (roughly) is what i WOULD have paid for 3 amazing rolls and a salad. But it only cost $21. It was really a steal. And really yummy! I will be going back! read more

I ordered to-go the first time and they were pretty quick with the order. The sushi is so-so. Some places are a little too soggy, but here it's a little too dense for me (if that makes any sense). I went in for the "all you can eat" for lunch the 2nd time. They were quite busy since this place is close to NOB. The service was quick but the wait for food was a little long. Grocery Store Sushi has more flavor. Did takeout of 4 rolls and they were subpar to say nicely. Living on the ocean I assume that they could have found fresher fish options. The spicy tuna and salmon rolls were not spicy at all but bland and pasty. The volcano roll had a bitter aftertaste like the fryer oil needed to be changed. The Norfolk roll was the only reason for the 2 stars. The spicy mayo on it gave it flavor. Finally, their gyoza tastes like they were from the freezer section of the grocery store next door. If you order extra food on the buffet please don't leave it on the plate they will charge you extra for wasting food that you are paying for anyway. Will NOT be going back at all! Absolutely the worst restaurant experience I ever had! I should of known because the lights were so dim when we entered. It seemed more of a club than a restaurant. It wasn't even romantic or anything, I want to believe that when restaurants have dim light that they're hiding something. Our table had dirt under it and the glass cups weren't even clean. When asked if I wanted a refill I declined automatically. My glass had a sticky residue on the rim and a lot of hard water streaks on it. So the Drinks alone even intensified my displeasure with the establishment. I'm sure the sushi was great however I had the gyoza for an appetizer and the beef yakiniku as the entree. I believe the gyoza were probably market bought from the Asian store because it tasted EXACTLY like the stuff from the store. The beef yakiniku wasn't special at all. It seemed like it was stir-fry with green onions and regular onions with kikoman soy sauce...and the beef seemed like it was old. No flavor at all in the dish. It was overall the worst dining experience I had. To top it all off, the amount they charged was so absurd! The pricing for each dish did not match the quality of food they had. I would of been better off going to a regular market store and buy sushi to go. My wife definitely knew I was displeased with the restaurant however if she enjoyed the food then it's okay with me. Personally, worst and pricy restaurant that I will not go to again! Wouldn't even refer my friends there. If anything, I will tell them what places NOT to go for Japanese style food. Go here about twice a month. Gotta get my Asian food fix haha. Its right off base so thats convenient. You cant really beat the dinner or lunch buffet price. If you eat like a man but don't want to break the bank eating sushi definitely come here.
