I went to Cherry Amber a couple of times now. First was for a dinner service with a rather large group. I liked the spacious hall and the availability of the semi-private area, where we were seated. I was really impressed by the sushi platter for two, which we ordered as a table appetizer. The sashimi pieces were really fresh and of good quality fish. I had the shrimp Singapore noodles, which was heavy on the spice but salted delicately, almost bland but in a nice way. I do wish it was a little bit saucy or varied in flavor, though. The second time, I visited early on the weekend and tried the brunch prix fixe menu. I had the dim sum appetizer, which was presented beautifully. Unfortunately, the wrappers were pretty dry. I also had the wonton soup, which was also a little lackluster though the mild soup was nice. For my entree, I had the beef curry with brown rice. I did like that the fried tofu was in there. Unfortunately, the beef was prepared in what I think was an attempt to tenderize it. The tough parts were still there but the rest of the meat felt mushy and really flavorless, almost like wet cardboard. I do think some of the dishes, they did fine. However, the menu is too expansive and it's hard to figure out what the restaurant can do well. I know it's an Asian fusion diner concept, but I do hope they'll pare down the menu a bit and highlight the dishes they could do well instead of relying so much on pre-made items executed poorly. read more

Scallion pancakes very good. 3 - rolls for $17.00 sounds good till you eat them or attempt too. 1st the food was supposed to come with soup or salad that didn't come out at all till we asked after main dish came out. Great update to a familiar spot from my childhood. I stopped into Cherry Amber today with my mom for lunch, and it was really nice to see the transformation....what used to be the old diner is now a Chinese fusion restaurant with updated, modern decor. We started by sharing the pork gyoza appetizer. It came with 6 pieces, which was perfect for splitting, and they were flavorful. The lunch specials are a great deal. They include a choice of white or brown rice plus soup. We both picked wonton soup, which came with two wontons each. The broth was delicious and comforting. The wontons were also great. For my entrée I ordered the chicken and broccoli in soy ginger sauce. It was very, very good and came with a generous amount of chicken for a lunch portion. My mom had the chicken and string beans in garlic sauce. She enjoyed the flavor, but didn't love that her chicken was shredded while mine was sliced. This was more of a texture preference than a taste issue. Service was okay; friendly, but we did have to wait a bit for water refills. Overall, a solid lunch and a nice refresh of the space. Not too long ago dropped by for some hot food and that left a positive impression even though there were some minor nit picks. Confirmed I would be back for sushi and picked Valentine's Day to try it out. Not surprised place was jam packed when I arrived. Online order promised 20 minutes, I showed up a couple of minutes after that to see a bag making its way out of the kitchen. To my pleasant surprise that bag was indeed my food! Timing was great. This Asian fusion restaurant just opened and was a former diner. It is beautifully decorated and very spacious. The service was quick for a new restaurant and the staff was very friendly. They are also kid friendly, which is great. They had a booster seat for my daughter. I would recommend adding on a kids menu though. The food was pretty good. My daughter had General Tso's chicken, which she enjoyed. My husband; mother in law and myself all had sushi, which was fresh and pretty good for a fusion restaurant. Second day after soft opening. Interior is beautiful, the bones of the building are the same as when it was the Plainview Diner, and I have very fond memories of that. There are plenty of velvety booths and comfy chairs. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Large menu, many vegetarian options . Portions were decent and food was excellent and nicely presented. Staff filled up water glasses regularly , which I always appreciate. Wish tofu was an option with pad Thai, and not just chicken and pork. Plenty of parking. Finally went to Cherry Amber tonight. We wanted to give them a few months to sort out their opening issues. My wife had the Tri-color sashimi and I ate the Mu-Shu beef. The sashimi was fresh, presented well and delicious. I was very impressed with the taste of my Mu-Shu beef. Came out hot and tasteful. I would order this again. It is a very happening restaurant that requires reservations if you want to make sure you get seated in a timely manner. There was not a spot in the parking lot to be had. Having reservations we were seated promptly. They have an extensive menu of Chinese, hibachi and sushi. We chose Chinese this time getting the sesame chicken and honey walnut shrimp and chicken. Both dishes were very tasty and the portions were generous. We had the hot and sour sour soup which was good and the wonton soup which was ok. All and all the restaurant was nice and the food good. Walking in felt nostalgic--like the diner I grew up going to, but refreshed with sleek, modern décor and a vibrant vibe. We came on their first Friday, and it was packed. Even with the crowd, we were seated right away, though I do have to note our table and some around us weren't being cleared quickly, so empty dishes piled up while new food kept coming out. Overall, the food was good. Most dishes were really enjoyable, but the sushi missed the mark and felt more like something from an all-you-can-eat spot--poorly rolled and not great quality. The apps were solid, though the crispy rice and scallion pancakes came out a bit cold. The entrées, on the other hand, were full of flavor and definitely the highlight. It's a brand-new place and has the potential to become a local favorite. I liked it, didn't love it, but I'll give them time to settle in and would come back to try it again. Booked the party room 3 weeks in advance for a mid-week dinner for 14 people. Confirmed it late morning the day of the dinner, even details like how I wanted the tables set up. I got a call from the restaurant 2.5 hrs. prior to my reservation time, telling me that there is a conflict, they have a party booked for that room tonight so we couldn't use the party room. When I questioned how that was possible since I booked the room over 3 weeks in advance, I was told that the person who booked my dinner was unaware that they were in negotiations with this other party, that they hadn't received a down payment yet from them and that was why it wasn't in the computer. I was told that this was a $120/head party with open bar. I found the entire story to be sketchy and difficult to believe. Because it was so close to the time of our group's dinner, I had no choice but to allow them to set us up at a table in the middle of the restaurant. While they did a nice job setting up the table with tablecloths and making it nice, this did not meet the needs of our group at all. This is a group that meets monthly and who like to socialize with each other after dinner, change seats around and chat with each other. Being in the middle of the restaurant it was impossible for us to do this. The party room would have been perfect. The restaurant closed at 10 pm the day we were there. I left at 8pm and there was still no one in the party room, so I feel the story given to me was made up and there was no big party being held in that room on that evening. They likely did not want to use that space, perhaps staffing or some other reason. I would have preferred to be told the truth; it would have sat much better with me than the story I was told. I also did not believe that they had the possibility of a big party and it wasn't in the computer for the staff to be aware that the room would possibly be occupied that night. The food was good, although two of our group said their dish was cold. Sushi was fresh. Service was good, staff was attentive. I am definitely never going to use this restaurant again to book our group dinner, but I might go again for a lunch or possibly a dinner with just a couple of other people. I'm very disappointed in how they changed my reservation at the last minute, and the party room remained empty the entire evening. read more

I was thinking of possibly eating in the restaurant but I was tired and hungry (just got back from the airport and a train home) and all I had was goldfish crackers and a little bite of cookie. Takeout was it. The restaurant is beautiful inside and pretty spacious. Service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. After replacing a dirty knife and a cup of water with a pit floating in it, I ordered. Sushi was good, choice of chopsticks or silverware on table with brown cloth napkin and a paper one that I asked for. I tried the dumplings sampler with choice of scrimp , pork, chicken and vegetable fill too. They opened 5 weeks ago,a late start from the originally noted September. Their QR notes closed and needs adjusting. Their desert menu had sold out and they maybe had 1 piece of tremesu that I opted not to get. They're new with room for improvement. read more

Came with multiple sauces which was a nice touch. Main dishes were very tasty and the selection was excellent. Very nostalgic feeling walking in here, after going to the Plainview diner a lot of my life this was a bit strange walking in knowing it won't be a diner anymore lol but nonetheless this is a great addition to the neighborhood. I made my reservation through Yelp for a Friday at 6:45 pm. We had a table for 3, we were seated right away. Now it is their first week opening so we did expect hiccups so keep that in mind for this review. We sat down and were given menus, we browsed their extensive menu offering lots of choices. We were finally greeted by our server Ellen who by the way is amazing. Her personality is awesome. We put in some drinks, they don't have their liquor license yet so we just opted in for some seltzers and waters. We all grazed the menu and decided to go a bit overboard and try a bunch of different things. We ordered, the boneless ribs, spicy kani salad, scallion pancakes, rock shrimp tempura, salmon crispy rice, Szechuan dumplings, Sambal samba and their sliced flank steak with Thai basil. The service and food took quite some time to come out, granted once again this is a Friday at their first week so we waited patiently. Everything started to come out little by little. It took a while for the busboys to clean the table so we were kinda making as much room as possible by clearing our own table. Everything was delicious, the taste was great on every dish. However, the sushi broke apart as soon as you attempted to grab it with chopsticks, so that's an area of improvement. Our crispy rice was served a bit cold because they were unsure of which table ordered it, which we noticed. Ellen did get our 2nd drink orders wrong but that's okay as we know they are overwhelmed. The steak was a bit overcooked but nothing here lacked in flavor. The appetizers are a bit on the smaller portion side for the price. But overall this was some good food, I'm glad it's here. I want them to get completely settled in until I return. I also am hoping they add some good happy hour / other specials once they do get their liquor license. The decor was okay still felt like I was at Plainview diner but they did a nice job of setting this up. I overall would think this place would be great, just need some more time and specials. I'm telling you get a happy hour there and I'm game to be here often. Oh btw, there was a small influencer there who was treated fairly great compared to everyone else, which is nice to see local influencers trying out this space but don't go forget there's other paying customers. But I'm glad this is here, it will have to compete with kashi and miko as the local neighborhood spots. So I'm excited to see what they do with that. read more
