I've only been here for dinner. On a good day, the food can pass for mediocre. On a bad day, it's really not worth eating what you ordered. The service is polite but slow. Still, I get dragged here by friends who insist that it's cute and neighborhood-y and inexpensive and deserving of our patronage. I really want to like this place for all of the reasons above but the food is just unforgivable. Their sandwiches are on par with what you probably could throw together for yourself after school when you were a kid. After we got lost finding our way back from walking around Grant Park ("We don't need navigation, I know where we are. Put it away." 2 hours later..... "We're lost."), we stumbled upon this cute place. Definitely a neighborhood restaurant. I'm sure people walk here constantly. I enjoyed the outdoor seating since we had my little dog with us, but the fries was overly fried (my dog enjoyed them A LOT). The chicken fingers had more breading than actual chicken. Wings didn't have a lot of meat to them. Their philly had flavor but more condiments than actual meat (similar to the chicken fingers, I'd say?) Probably won't be coming back since it's out of the way but if I lived around Grant Park, I'd go back again. read more

Really wanted to like this place, but the service was slow -- we were on the patio for at 5-10 min before someone came, and when we went inside to see if there was a hostess or some menus, we found no one. The burger was decidedly mediocre, kind of fatty (I know it's a burger, but I swear it was like 70:30 ground). When I asked about wine the server said, "uh... we have red and white cabs ... Uh ...." I hope to go back once more and order something else -- I know the patio can be tough for servers, but "fool me once..." I do have high hopes b/c it's a great location and the menu does offer what sounds like good grub. read more

Did someone say soysage?? Yup! So yummy & tastes just like real sausage. This is the only place I come to have brunch on Saturday or Sunday mornings. The location is lovely, I recommend sitting outside at one of the many tables they have, but inside is nice too if the weather isn't good. The staff is very friendly & helpful if you're confused about what you should get. Some of my favorites here is the following (in no particular order): French Toast (that comes with this butter with bits of orange peals which gives it this amazing mini kick in your mouth & melts together beautifully). The chocolate chip pancakes, banana bourbon pancakes....say what!?? That's right, I can't describe it, just make sure that you order them whenever you get a chance to have brunch here. Great neighborhood place, dog and family friendly. I've been there for brunch, lunch and dinner. The food is American with a bit of tex-mex. The brunch is the best, and lunch is equivalent to what I would expect from the vortex coming off a weekend bender. I would call the food good to great but neither bad nor awesome. If you live in the neighborhood I would guess you've tried it, if your new and have dogs you can grab table outside if open and hang out. Overall, it's one of those places that always makes the list of close, reasonable options for a last-minute dinner....but it very rarely ends up being the selection. Be careful when you head over to Dakota Blue- the NIMBY intown moms and dads will let their rug rats crawl all over you and no one seems to care or feel the need to control their little treasures. Pretty decent meal! I decided to have breakfast, and wasn't at the least disapointed. My over easy eggs were perfect, the biscuit perfectly doughy and moist (however, I'm not sure if it was homemade), the hashbrowns hearty and well seasoned- and the bacon- crispy to enough to make me want to order another side! I was fortunate enough to share some of my co-volunteers french toast which was made with Grand Marnier and served with a lemon sauce. Total heaven in my mouth! I've only been once, so it may have improved, but I thought this place was lousy. I tried it because I wanted to check out their tacos. First off, mexican food only comprises about 25% of the menu. That said, you are probably better off ordering the chicken fingers. I believe they also had blue plates which was something like meatloaf. I ordered something like spicy chicken tacos. It was full and overflowing but loaded with crap. The meat was bland and the guacamole sour. If I lived within walking distance I might treasure it as a neighborhood joint, but don't go out of your way for it. read more

We lived in Grant Park for 2 years, and still venture back to go to DB, especially for Sunday brunch. Particularly notable are the french toast and the jalapeno grits- very nice. As others have mentioned, they have quite a few vegetarian options including a nice veggie burrito with tofu, including poblano peppers. Their chipotle sauce is also quite nice, don't miss it. Yes, there are often a lot of kids, but it is a neighborhood place, so you just overlook it (or we do). The owner is awesome, and I think the real charm of the place- aside from the food and the neighborhood atmosphere- is that it is a small business that is invested in the community, through art (the local artists' displays on the walls) and through personal conversations with customers. These things give it a feeling of community as well as great food, and this is what keeps us coming back. read more

The charming neighborhood of Grant Park is the first place in Atlanta where I have lived on my own (with my roommate, of course) and this absolute gem is located right at its heart. My roommate and I walked here from our apartment (The Leonard) on an early Fall evening recently. We decided to sit outside since it was still warm enough for comfort, and ordered some drinks while looking over the menu. I wanted something simple and cheap and my eyes went straight to the $6 Grilled Cheese. Upon reading the list of ingredients, I noticed that there were multiple kinds of cheese! I asked our server if those were choices of cheese or rather that they were all included together in the sandwich. She informed me that they were all included, a response I was too thrilled to hear. BLUE CHEESE, YOU GUYS!! BLUE CHEESE GRILLED CHEESE!!! Among other cheeses, the Blue Cheese in this Grilled Cheese sent me directly to cheese heaven. My meal came specifically with tater tots, a choice against fries and other sides. I was ecstatic. Paired with the peaceful scenery of our little neighborhood in the Fall, my meal was absolutely PERFECT. I will be coming back to this place for years to come, no doubt about it. read more

I live right down the street from Dakota Blue and love going there on a balmy afternoon to share drinks with friends on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. They have great service -ask for Daniel during brunch on Saturday and Sunday mornings- and good food -the veggie chili and the eggs florentine are my favorites. Dakota Blue definitely caters to families, so, beware, there's always a lot of kids running around. They also display local artist's creations around the inside of the restaurant and it changes frequently. This place is really good with awesome GF options, however, the last time I went there was an extremely rude waiter (glasses, red hair) who had an ugly attitude for some odd reason; he was nowhere to be found when it came time for refills, and when he came m he slammed my water cup on the table after filling it. On the way out, my friend and I said, "bye, thank you" and he said absolutely nothing. We were extremely confused by his actions. Tonight, I had the tacos for the very first time. As a vegetarian who really does like tofu, I am always reluctant to try tofu in something that tofu has no business in. So just to be sure I could eat something, I ordered a plate of tots just in case. I wish I'd skipped the tots. While delicious, as usual, they were entirely unnecessary. The Tofu Super Tacos were amazingly good. Tofu, guacamole, black beans, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream on two "crispy soft" tortillas... Awesome! Kudos for not serving wimpy tacos. And kudos some more for putting tofu on one and making it taste perfect! You won't need a side with these. I ate the tacos because they were big and delicious. I ate the tots because they were there - why do I always do that? Oh, and we ate outside and brought the dog. You can do that. :-) read more

Of all the restaurants to have occupied this location over the years, I'm shocked that Dakota Blue is the one Grant Parkers chose to support. The Good: A friendly and comfy joint with sidewalk seating on a picturesque neighborhood street. Margaritas that will give you a good buzz. The Bad: Wild children running amok (Ahhh! So this is why Dakota Blue has succeeded!). Sticky, permanently sticky floors and tables due to previous statement. The Food: Mediocre. I usually just go here with my friends who have toddlers. Mainly just drink margaritas or beer and then pick at the kids' fairly decent chicken fingers and fries while they run around screaming. A recent dinner at Dakota Blue was quite nice. I wasn't focusing too much on the food, although my black bean Cuban sandwich was pretty on-par. I appreciated the option to order the half Cuban: a normal portion size for all the non-obese Americans out there. Atop the black bean cakes sat sauteed peppers and onions, and cheese. The Greek salad that accompanied my sammie also was quite delightful. Tres glasses of Chardonnay complemented the conversation, catapulting me into a state of fuzzy-buzzy bliss. read more

Thought I would give this place a try since it seemed to have a cool atmosphere. I sat outside which was a huge mistake. It's on obvious they aren't too big on pest control. With a patio for dining I expect that there be some flies around, but they were everywhere. They really need to pressure wash the patio area and have pest control come in weekly. The food was typical fare and the prices were reasonable. Two tables near me sent their food back, but my tacos were fine. Service was mediocre. Ok - so I have mixed feelings about Dakota Blue. I go there very often - after all it is in Grant Park and it is very dog-friendly, but it can be hit or miss. I'd say half the time the service is good - half the time - not so much. I love their Turkey Reuben Cuban. Love that you can get half sizes - perfect for my appetite. Good pasta salad. Decent brunch selections. Love the outside seating - perfect to walk up and sit out with our girls. The inside is always decorated with local art - which is pretty cool. So I would give 3 stars for food & service - but it gets one extra for being dog-friendly! I wouldn't drive out of my way to get there - but if you are around GP - check it out! read more

I went with the Anthro peeps for our last happy hour in April. I love the location and love the vibe of the bar, but my experience was marred by the fact that my beer tasted like someone had their feet in the keg. And that's pretty gross. They were super nice about switching me out for a different beer, but unfortunately, that was my first impression. The food looked decent, so I'll give it another try. Probably some hot day when I've been out at the park and am in need of refreshment. I'm hoping my next trip will prompt a review update with more stars! read more

we originally went to grant central pizza however after sitting there for 20 minutes waiting for our drink orders to be taken, we decided to go across the street since i read Kathleen's review and read the sidewalk chalk i was so into going to Dakota Blue, plus it was a really cool name. i love how they have a little area for the kids with books, and little chairs/desk. the place was full of kids running around. i cant wait until Izzy gets older. now i always have to be conscientious about where I'm going to eat b/c of my little one. i love this place b/c of it's kid friendliness. we ordered the domchiladas. they were soo good. and only 4.95 for a good size serving. they were really good and had a spiciness to them. very good. we also ordered the crab cakes. very thick and moist. the crust was really dark, too dark for my liking. but it was cool. they have a pretty cool beer list as well. i ordered the half serving of the cuban sandwich. it was really really really dry. i will never order it again. however, everything else,especially the cute little blond kid who crawled inside the newspaper stand and got stuck, made up for it. read more

I've been here for breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner, and I recommend all three. The prices are a hell of a nice relief from what you usually see on menus at local spots of similar caliber. The service is friendly and casual and they keep a nice rotation of various specials that also won't break the bank. The only downside is the meager wine list, which offers one white and four reds (and all the reds are from the same producer). However there is also full bar with some decent margaritas and other worthwhile unique offerings. The burrito plates and Cuban sandwich varieties are a steal at under $8. For breakfast, the french toast is sensational. Dakota Blue is a perfect neighborhood place, a Grant Park gem I hope will remain this way for many years to come! read more

Had Sunday brunch here yesterday. Our food was good, can't remark on the alcohol because we were too early for that. We got a table on the sidewalk & it was great to enjoy the fresh air. While I enjoyed my ground beef taco, I did find the flavors to be a little bland. With the pico de gallo in it, I thought it should've had more flavor. It did come with salsa though, so that helped. Not exactly memorable, but an easy walk to the Grant Park farmers market afterwards made it a perfect Sunday outing! read more

For a first time visit,it was pretty good. We came for lunch,around 1:00. There were plenty of seats and we were allowed to seat ourselves. The service was great. We ordered drinks and appetizers. We got water but they have a list of beers and wines and margaritas as well. The chips and salsa and guacamole were a negative for me,however my husband enjoyed the guacamole. The salsa was a bit watery and under seasoned. I also felt like the guac could use more seasoning but maybe it was just me since he seemed to like it just fine. For lunch, I ordered the BBQ sandwich. It was very good. I loved the flavor of the sauce. The bun was slightly toasted. There were plenty of tater tots. My husband ordered the brisket tacos with tots. He liked it,I did not. But again, it was probably just me and my taste buds. The brisket was dry (to me...lol) Husband said he would order again. The price was great. We paid less than $10 per person. Next time, I'll come in off the clock and try a margarita (or two). read more

Holy Hel, get the lamb sliders! The curry alioli is amazeballs! The serving sizes are huge: it took four people to finish off the tator tots. The super nachos were equally delicious, although I'd suggest ordering an extra basket of chips to go with it. The beer selection is more than I expected for a place of this size, but not extensive. The kitchen is small so food can take a while, so don't go here if you're in a hurry unless you order something very, very simple. read more

Dakota Blue is a grant park neighborhood joint that has decent service, cheap beer, and average food. It's around the corner from my house and I've been here too many times to count. They have daily drink specials and it has a friendly, casual vibe. The owners live in the neighborhood and lots of patrons know each other. PBR pitchers are $7 and the sandwiches and burgers are decent. There are always specials that are worth trying out. If you can snag a seat outside on a nice day, it's not a bad place to be. Dakota Blue is nothing to seek out if you're not local, but it's a nice place to kick back and relax with a cold one if you're in the neighborhood or visiting the zoo. read more

Solid neighborhood joint. My fiancé and wanted to get a quick breakfast nearby and decided I give Dakota blue a chance. I got scrambled eggs, bacon, and a pancake. My fiancé got his eggs Benedict.
