We purchased our Catalina Macaw (Maya) from Dallas Parrots. Fahad and Rana really were so hands on with every step. They taught us how to handfeed her. For 4 weeks, we would come up to the store before opening hours to handfeed her. Before we knew it, she was looking forward to our visits and blossoming into her little personality. They worked on socializing her and harness training her. This is not the time to be cheap. This is a lifelong companion. Handfeedings and socializing parrots is a lot of work. The sweet ladies at the store spend all day caring, training, and loving on all the parrots ( big and small). Maya is well adjusted to our family life , I'm not sure I would have had the confidence without Dallas Parrots. I still go there for toys and treats even though it's a 30 minute drive for me. read more

It started as a very bad experience. The moment we entered the store, I'm not sure if it was the owner or an employee, but he seemed completely uninterested in talking to us. So, we ended up asking another girl who was standing next to him about the different parrots they had. When we asked if we could hold one of the parrots, her response was quite rude. However, as we were walking out, another employee who was training Olie (Blue Macau) was incredibly kind and gracious i forgot her name. read more

Dec2022: 5 : I would recommend this store location and this work crew. I stopped by this location to ask for information about daycare and boarding service. I got a chance to see the store and how some of the birds were being kept. I didn't observe any issues on this visit. I did observe birds out on perches in the store. One was exploring the floor underneath the display table. LoL The birds appeared to be comfortable in the store as well as the individuals taking care of the birds. I looked around the store and found that it featured items on display for sale that I have seen featured in other stores where I shopped and visited. One young lady came from the back to talk to me about boarding my bird and showed me the boarding areas and cages. There is a large parking lot adjacent to the store with handicapped parking areas available as well. read more

This business is a family owned business. They care about the wellness of their birds. Many of the birds that they sell are hand raised at home to get them socialized properly for a wonderful bond and experience with a human owner. My crimson bellied conure and I have also used their boarding services. I trust them with my eyes closed as they are very experienced exotic bird handlers. read more

Above and beyond. I bought my baby conure from somewhere else and wanted more information on how to care for him so that's why I came here. What an awesome bird shop! Great selection of baby birds, toys, and cages. The place was spotless and clean. They had very high quality cages and a good selection for larger birds. I bought 1 toy, 1 treat, and millet. I was interested in the cockatiels and conures. I had my sister with me and we felt very relaxed to look around and ask questions. The male owner is amazing. He is not always there. You should buy a bird when he is. When he is there you will want to buy all the birds. He is SUPER knowledgeable and VERY helpful with understanding bird breeds that would better fit your home/family. Our bird is AMAZING! I sleep with her on the weekends. Contrary to what they advertise, their birds may be hand fed but definitely not hand raised. From my experience, all the birds brought out for me to see (not less than a dozen) did not step up, but instead were grabbed by the body. Despite my observations, in my enthusiasm I purchased a parrot and brought him home. He is super fearful of hands, and 23 days later we are still working on getting him to step up. He will step up to a perch finally, but not to a hand yet. The bird I purchased was 6.5 months old and had never been exposed to fresh veggies or fruit and was on a pellet diet only. This is what I was told and what I saw through observation, as I am still working on diet conversion. It also appears he was never exposed to bathing or spray showers, as this too makes him frightened. The owners were pleasant and knowledgeable, but again, contrary to what they claim and state on their website, their birds are not handled often, properly or tame in my opinion and experience. This was an entirely different experience from my first quaker who I purchased from a local breeder. He was 11 weeks old, stepped up and offered kisses day 1. Plus I was given a sheet listing his favorites veggies, fruits and nuts. He was accustomed to bathing daily. I was expecting something similar based on phone conversations, but no. Another contrast I can draw is complete avian virus testing was included in the price I paid for my first bird. At Dallas Parrots it was an extra add on cost. Be prepared to do extra work in building a bond and trust with a bird, if you purchase a bird from them. read more
